I got Swiftclaw sash, and 3 Wakzashis of the frozen skies in about 6 hours. First try on swiftclaw, i was happy. (with 30 druid)
Finally!!!

I got the Sash today after doing the quest about 25 times (no joke). I did it in conjunction with the Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies quest (which has yielded me many pp)over a period of 10 or so levels. I also killed Jelquar the Soulslayer several times, getting the Spirit Reaver once ($$$$). I gave up on the Sash but had one Head in the bank and left it there. Last night as I was leaving Nadox, I decided to run through SB on a whim, hit tracking and two heretic invaders were up! Killed, looted, camped, logged on this morning, nailed another heretic and did the turn-in: Woot! There's the Sash! I'm amiable to Kejekians now, perhaps that is why it worked this time. Druid is 54 now, no exp to be had in SB but nice to have finally accomplished this one.
Not bad, really.
# Aug 22 2003 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
So I did this quest with my 43 ranger while farming cat pelts to make poison vials and stuff with teh rogue. This item was a nice bonus, every time I saw the heretic on track, I went over /pwnt, and got the heads. Ranger conned indifferent... possibly apprehensive actually, and still I got the sash on the first go. It's a nice little item to be honest, though if you're over 40 probably not worth going to SB just to camp the heretics.
#golfertwo, Posted: Aug 06 2003 at 10:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Cap on haste items? someone posted a whole list of haste numbers apparently based on some nonexistend website- ie. magelo. Consistent allogritam --duh--probably but it probably has the level in that logrithem to calculate haste -and as stated--ALL the WAY to L49!!! . Each haste item has 2%L1 t0 50%L49. As an "Expert Witness" I would tend to believe exactly that. For eample FBSS says you can be a level 1. While other haste items or silent or don't speak to what level you have to be to get the haste. These brief descriptions and anomilies appears to mean verant expects you won't have the haste item to you get AT LEAST to the minimum level stated. The fallacy seems to be that there is a cap on all haste items based on somebody at at somewebsite website that no longer exists- magelo- posting calculations that are taken as gospel. First, some of these haste items list the level needed to obtain it. If Magelo calculator had properly done his research he would have posted haste graph each item. The ordinate would have level and the absicca would have haste %. That way we would know if each haste item was capped and the level it capped and leveled out. Or, and this is the big question; if it be true "AS STATED" that each haste item increases as your level goes up period end of statement end of discussion. The market on haste items would collapse if all you were buying was the added factors such as AC etc., since it is stated all haste items go up according to level. DUH.
RE: haste cap
# Aug 22 2003 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
Haste, I believe, works this way. Each item has a set haste cap on it. You cannot get that amoun to of haste, however, until you are that lvl. For example, the COCW is 36% haste. You get it at lvl 20, and you are only gonna get 20% haste out of it. However, once you get to 36, you get the full benefit. The haste will NOT increase after the item's haste cap, all the way to 50%. Ever.

The haste percentage on the haste spell series, whether it be cast by a shaman, enchanter, beastlord or whatever, is based on the level of the player that casts it.

Therefore, I would assume that each haste item has its own fixed haste percentage. In EQ, items that increase in power as you do generally say so. (IE: Shimmering Emerald Crystal)

Since none of these haste items have a statement to that effect on the item's description, would it not be logical to assume that most of these (if not all) have fixed percentages?

Cheers,

While I'm not certain of any formulas or other factors at play, I can confirm that a Swiftclaw Sash on my 29 Rogue continues to indicate a 15% haste in the item description window.

Got sash 3 of 7 times
# Jul 05 2003 at 4:40 PM Rating: Excellent
I have done this quest 7 times over the last 3 days and have gotten the sash on 3 of those times. Heres how I did it.
On the first two turn ins of the heretic heads I conned indifferent to the Kejekan cat people. I read somewhere else that an amiable faction may help in getteing the sash. I proceeded to spend 600-700pp working my faction up to amiable by doing the following;

*Give Emylie a Large Brick of High Quality Ore and an Oak Shaft.

*Emylie Steelclaws takes the supplies and begins to work on the hammer. She works swiftly and efficiently then cools the finished hammer and hands it to you.

*You recieve a Kejekan Smithy Hammer. You also receive a faction adjustment in favor of the Kejekan people.

Emylie Steelclaws is located in the first building on the right upon entering the Kejekan village. I then destroyed the hammer she gave me and repeated the process. I did this about 40-50 times to get my faction from indifferent to amiable. After getting my faction up I have done the quest four more time and have gotten the sash every other time, so far.

Heres the summary;
First turn in - indifferent con - no sash
Second turn in - indifferent con - no sash
Faction work to amiable
Third turn in - amiable con - Swiftclaw Sash
Fourth turn in - amiable con - no sash
Fifth turn in - amiable con - Swiftclaw Sash
Sixth turn in - amiable con - no sash
Seventh turn in - amiable faction - Swiftclaw Sah

I am going to continue working this quest for some more of the sashes. I will post some more about my success and failure rates on this. Good luck in your questing.

The effect on this item is permanent. The haste form permanent haste items does stack with spell haste or Bard song haste (a few special Bard songs will stack with spell haste but otherwise those two don't stack). Two permanent haste items don't stack.

# Sep 15 2003 at 10:18 PM Rating: Default
Bard haste and spell haste stack. You're probably thinking of the few special bard songs that can break the haste cap.
You can always have 3 types of haste: item (worn); spell; bard.

For some stupid reason, I cannot edit this post, but here's a correction:

I was wrong (as was the source that I got my info from).

Thott (guild leader of Afterlife) is a fairly authotitative source, and I'll take his word on this history of bard-stacking in EQ. So, here's a good link to his feelings on why Bard haste *should* (but does not) stack:

If you find a good area to farm in just gather 1800pp for a FBSS and ***** this quest. I had tracked there for days and days for Old Ghostback and by the time I got him I had found 1 and only 1 poacher head and there's not even a guarentee you'll get the sash after you take like a week to get 4 heads. Plus mobs kill poachers when they spawn. This quest is futile, get on with your eq career. :p

Ok, I don't know if I'm beating a dead horse here or not. But it seems that all the people that think it gives like 10% haste don't have one and there are some people moaning and whining about it. I would like to say to them, DON"T TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU DON"T KNOW ABOUT DUMBASS!!! SoE has probably put that quest in their because of all the farmers etc. That's part the reason for the noob armor quests.

Ok, my SK friend wants to buy one he's got like 1k saved up on Veeshan but because of rarity in bazaar he decided to go for an FBSS.

We tried the quest, without a tracker while running around I (34 wizzy) got aggroed on by a cougar and it ripped me apart. Than on my CR we got aggroed, took out the mob, than another thing aggroed so I started to evac, towards the end of my cast I got aggroed on by a panda that literally ripped me to shreds.

So, this quest is hard enough w/out a tracker and can be harder w/out an invis. Good luck and I think it's worth it.

Unless you are in Stonebrunt for other reasons (such as xp) and happen to do this quest on the side, it's a monumental waste of time. The odds of getting the sash are pretty low. Factor that in with the length of time between heretic spawns, and you're better off farming for cash. With FBSS going for about 2k on my server and SCHW going for about 3k, by the time you actually land a sash, you likely could of made enough plat to buy a better item. Also, if you can't track, don't even attempt this.

But then again i also get bored easyly so it will be a relax from the AC camp in OOT.

Are you sure the haste percentage on this is a static number? The details of the item simply say it has the spell effect Haste and when you look up the details of the spell it says the speed percentage gains every level from 2% at level 1 to 50% at level 49. If anyone has a definite answer to this querry please reply to this. Thanks.

all the hastes have a single effect of varying degrees of haste, but theyre all one effect and are lumped into one category. on a side note, haste is affected by level; each haste item has a cap, and when you reach the same level as the haste cap, the haste is maxxed. for instance, SCHW with 22% haste, will only be 22% at lvl 22; at level 5, it is 5%, at level 15 it is 15% haste.

It took me 9 tries to get the Sash. My alts and friends alts now have the other 8 headbands. However, I went from level 36 to 40. It is an awesome place for a Ranger or Druid or any other class that has panic animal to solo. I snare-pulled gorilla's in a little valley where the jungle ends and the mountains began as they crossed my path. After putting a couple arrows in them, I fear-kited them. I could do this for hours. Between kills I tracked heretics. Maybe missed one or two. When I found an animal already fighting them, I'd get real close and panic the animal, then immediately start hitting the heretic to get aggro. By the time panic wore off, heretic pretty much dead.

Don't know if it made a difference for me, but a group of level 56+ Trolls and Ogres came through and wiped out the kitty city, including the turn in lady, just before I got my last head on my successful turn in. I waited for her to repop, then handed in: bingo, got it.

Well I did it! Just got the Swiftclaw Sash (while I was at work :) )

I'd gotten one Heretic head awhile ago (mostly fluke I believe) since then I went through most of my 20s in Stonebrust and Warrens (with excursons to SK/Paw) and finally decided to do this quest now that (at 28) the Heretics were still good and blue but not *too* tough.

My main tactic was to roam east-west at roughly the margin where jungle turns to woods/bare stone. Tracking in there got me within most Heretic spawns, and plenty for me to kill in the meantime.

To make a long story short, my first combine (3 female 1 male) got me a headband, after that I collected 8 heads and did the combine/turnins at the same time. That got me another headband (2 male 2 female) and then THE SASH! (on 4 male heads).

Early on I had gotten a Wakizashi with some help. I was initially using a (purchased) Velium Swiftblade and a (handed down) Centi Warhammer. Now I'm using Waki primary, Centi secondary, the belt and the sash.

Oh and I also dinged 29 by the time I finished :D

there are 2 main heretics one is a necro(woman) the other is a SK (male)-harm touches around 220 dd. And another sk wich is higher lvl called jalqular something the soulslayer is a heretic as well and drops a head but he is lvl 34 and a harder fight
Mobs changed?

I tried doing this last night with my 27 ranger and got my backside handed to me. The heretic I fought wasn't an SK, she was a necro. She rooted me, feared me, doted me, and poison DDed me. I didn't stand a chance and she was blue. But, of course, all necro NPC's are undercons anyway...

As with the Trueshot quest... patience finally rewarded me with a sash...phew.

Echoing earlier comments - I came here a 34 Ranger , left a 36 - with the sash .... and it took 5 times to get the sash.

Heretics spawns are slow... but not that bad - I managed to kill everyone that popped during my stay here - didn't have any competition ... or none that I knew of. Beware of falling damage - made me yearn for Levitate. And .. dont pull on those high traffic pattern areas... and don't expect help up at kitty city if you run into trouble. I love the pathing of the Panda's that followed me into the city... pretty funny ...thank goodness for SoW.

The Harm Touches, inviso, and fearing can freak oneself out...and since I overmatched the Heretics - the first few attacks were disconcerting. But after an initial fight - they all went down very easily.

Pandas hit hard... so beware. I feared most of the kills during this time - so I'll need to get my D skills honed somewhere else .. but I enjoyed the zone immensly - as I have track , and get good XP soloing these baddies.

All in all - a nice zone for a ranger to do some soloing. As a comparison - I just ran over and tried a Cyclops in Rathe - and finished him with only 2 bubbles left.... much tougher without fear !
Finally got it
# Dec 04 2002 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
*INSANE, MANIACAL LAUGHTER* I finally got this thing after turning in SEVEN times.

Ok, let me share my research about getting this item.

My Ranger didn't attempt this quest until he was level 44. Yes, it can be done much earlier, but at 44, things were a lot easier because most mobs in the zone were green. Plus, my tracking skill was up to 190 when I started.

I sat at -1600, -200 and set track to normal (i.e. show latest spawn at the top). I discovered that there are really only two heretics, and they could be either male or female (I didn't see a trend in the gender).

The heretics spawn at intervals of one real-time hour. I found that one usually spawned at or around 20 after the hour, and the other spawned some other (unpredictable) time. However, once both of them had spawned, I could clock it nearly to the minute when each would spawn again. They would spawn almost EXACTLY one real-time hour after they were last killed.

Thus, I could kill one at 8:20 PM, and another at 8:35 PM, and the next would inevitably spawn at 9:20 PM and 9:35 PM.

During down time, I would track the few dark blue mobs in the zone and gain some easy xp by fear-kiting. After every battle, I would always return to -1600, -200 to scan for heretics.

Cats will not aggro here, but gorillas (granitebacks) will aggro, even if they are green to you. Pandas will some times aggro as well--careful, Pandas hit very hard. Some higher kobolds will aggro, but they were mostly annoying flies to me.

LEVITATE IS YOUR FRIEND on this quest. With levitate and SoW, you can easily go after mobs without worrying about falling and taking damage.

Lastly, if you track a heretic and find it already in battle with a wandering mob, ATTACK THE MOB FIRST. The heretic will help you kill it, and you will decrease the chance that the heretic kill will go to the mob instead of you.

ok, for those of you mathmaticians out there that use unusually long complicated algorithms great job! Personally i could give a rats patoot...lol...ok seriously the haste percentage should be given by verant don't you agree? right on the item itself..like haste (15%) or some such nonsense. That would ease a lot of peoples minds about exactly what the percentage is. i just know that an RBg is better than this item and i don't own one (i do however own a swiftclaw sash.) For those of you who would rather do the math, be my guest...I will save my precious copper and wait to get a runebranded girdle or a CoF. thank you
RE: Mathmaticians
# Aug 22 2004 at 10:54 PM Rating: Decent
It doesnt take a mathmetician to figure these out. Its a simple task really of taking haste item off and attacking with your main hand only <easiest so use a 2hander> and count the number of attack rounds <not swings because of double attack> in a minute. Then equip haste item and do it again. Probably best to do it over an increased time but most fights dont last 1min anyways. Anyway, take the number of attacks you got the first time and divide by the second time <of vice versa, been awhile since i done this myself, trust me one or the other will stick out as PAINFULLY wrong> and thats the percent haste on the item.

I suffered horribly in math... and It totally looses me how people do a weapons ratio after effect by hate items. I understand ratio, then the % improved on that... but how much it effects the game, thats all greek to me. However. you have to assume at Level 1 this item gives 2% haste.

1: Increase Attack Speed by 2% (L1) to 50% (L49)

so this is just a guess... but thats 48% left somewhere in the gray. Divided by 49 full levels. So every level you get close to 1% faster. Being 9.6% faster each time you level. I mean now the level cap is 65 I doubt this item works up that high. But at lvl 49 you would see the full effect and it would take half as long to swing.... its pretty close to a 1-1 ratio. 1level=1precent. or close to it. level 25 you would take only 75% of your original swing speed.

Maye I dont understand the question at hand.

I think what is happening here is a common mistake. When people see the effect: spellname they look up the spell and use the formulae that are listed under the spell. Item effect and spell stats are NOT the same. Thus, all items that list effect: Haste do not have the same haste percentage (however you want to calculate it which is diff. matter). Some posts on the items usually list someone's calculations and how they were derived...I find that somewhat interested but of little practical use. All I really care is which is faster and as long as you use a consistent algorithm, you can order the items.

By the way, this is not only true for effect: Haste, but there is similar confusion on quite a number of items with effects where the equivalent spell is level dependent.

If you can't survive getting through the Warrens to get to Stonebrunt then you are too low to survive long in Stonebrunt. :-)

If you are going through the batling cave you are going the wrong way. You turned right at the throne room instead of left. go to the wall opposite the entrance to the batling cave and go through a door. The entrance to SBM is through there.

Just posting what my experiences were-

I camped this 2 nights about 4 hours each with my wifes druid and looted the heads with my enchanter because I wanted every advantage I could get (higher charisma and faction boost spell). You have to be very quick to get to the heretic invaders as soon as they spawn, I had 2 killed by roaming mobs right as I was arriving.

I sat and tracked in the spot a couple recommended here, by the tree and rock, it is a high traffic area of wandering mobs. At level 26, a couple of them conned white and I think they are really easy kills, if there wasnt the constant threat of wanderers which spoiled my kill (by killing me) once.

I looted with the enchanter so he could cast benevolence (+200 faction boost I think) and buffed his charisma (118 I think) for the turn in. Normally they were indifferent to me, with the spell they were amiable. Not sure if that helped or I was just lucky, but I got it on the first try (yay!). Was thinking of trying it again to see if it was a conincidence but I dont think I want to go through all the hassle again, if I do, Ill let you know what happened.

Oh, and it was 4 male heads if anyone is keeping track. Good luck, its doable at 26, but not easy.

While I don't know the percentages, FBSS could have more haste on it than this. If not, than this is better.

I just finished this quest finally with my 35 ranger. It was easy enough but took a very long time to complete. I got the sash with the 5th attempt but the headbands are great gifts to guildmates or lower alts. I don't think the combo of the type of heads matter, since you combine them in the satchel before you turn them in and create a new item. It is a random reward and it is LORE so don't attempt another without giving your sash to a friend.

Here is what I did to complete this quest:

I took Daniel's advice and hung out at n1200, n800 by the tree on the west side. I sorted track to normal for most current spawns on top and filtered out all green. At level 35, heretics were either lightblue or blue. As soon as they popped, I'd get them. I found that their spawn rate varied from 2-3 hours and when one popped, another was not too far behind on spawning, anywhere from instant to 20 minutes.

I wouldn't recommend this quest for anyone that can't track and rangers have the advantage of modifying tracking to make it meet their needs even more than druids. So if you can't track, get a friend that can. I don't know how you'd do it by running around hoping to run into a heretic invader. They spawn about in the middle and roam the hills. Even with track, I would run right past them not seeing them, especially the female necro who wears a brown robe.

Anyway, good luck to all that try. Your patience will be well tested. I did the WAK sword quest while doing this one. Not a bad sword.

Exp is great in Stonebrunt at 35 (I actually got 36 doing this quest) but watch out for adds and always have fear animal ready!

Be safe!

I have gone back to do this quest again for a guildmate and have noticed that the heretics now aggro with the animals in the zone. I don't believe they did before the last patch since I could pop on and see them walking clear across the zone. The last 2 I have found were being attacked by tigers, so I have to save the heretic from the tiger so I could get it. So now they do not last long once they spawn. I was tracking one tonight and "lost target" when I was the only one in zone.

I believe the sash will be that much rarer in Norrath.

I'm not sure if it will render correctly but I used this thread on the Rangers Glade for advice on how to tackle this quest:

http://forums.interealms.com/ranger/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1395

I consider myself fortunate in getting 3 straight sashes after failing on my first try. I was also able to get a couple Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies during the same time.
