just bought a full set of this (all pices but head) for 300pp on vallon zek. i cant wear it but hey i got a good deal, also for the 300pp i got a good head (forgot what its called)
This stuff doesnt drop off the shamen, It seems to only drop off the Raging Highland Kobolds, I'm not sure about the regular Highland Kobolds as I've only killed the occasional wanderer.
It makes sense that this doesnt drop off shamen though, since they arent a class listed as being able to wear this, and this is plate, not chain like the bamboo stuff is supposed to be.
Orges can't wear this type of armor because it is set to medium size. Barbarians and Vah Shir can wear it since they have the advantage of being able to wear most medium and large armors. They're big, but not too big to squeeze into medium armor. Generally, orges and trolls make up for having to wear large (and therefore heavier) armor with their greater strength. In some case, like this item, there is no large verson. :(
Don't worry, earn enough money and yo'll be able to buy a large fine plate bp and possible have it dyed the same color. Or, depending how how far the prices have dropped on your server, you could find a crafted bp for around the same price (if not less).
What i want to know is why Ogres cant wear it....not that it's that great...but i was gonna twink my buddy's ogre with some (as a cheap twink) and i got the BP and saw it wasnt ogre.... seemed odd
Camped the raging highland kobold camp to get all but the BP for 2 weeks. Decide to call it quits and go to Qeynos to unload my stuff on my nephews warrior and came across the Kobold king in the Warrens, dropped him and low and behold the cold iron bp drops ( 1 ac less than the etched). Gave it all to him and it looks great. Looks like a black plated armor. Good fashionable look.He nicknamed himself the black knight :)
My lvl 15 paladin actually managed to buy this BP from a vendor in Erudin for about 60pp. While he's an Erudite, and as a result, not all that strong, I still felt that the outstanding AC (not to mention the MR bonus) for the level was worth it.
I lucked out and managed to score a pair of Drakkel wolfhide leggings (AC9, wt. 0.1,) from another vendor for about 3pp (!), so that more than offset the weight issue as far as I was concerned.
It gets tiring listening to all the twinks and farmers complain about armor that drops off a lvl 30ish mob. How about you start a character and without twinking or playing the "buy low sell high" game in your server's auction zone see what sort of armor you have in the mid-twenties when a group could start obtaining this stuff. Prior to today's hand me down EQ world, getting armor such as bronze or blackened iron was a sweet deal. To a lot of people, it still is. If I was playing a non-twinked new character, I'd much rather be grabbing this stuff off of the kobolds as a human plate class than sitting in HHK getting unwearable small bronze off the goblins.
The sole problem I'd have with this compared to other things obtainable at the same level is that Blackened Alloy armor is much lighter and about the same AC for nearly the same level to obtain. Plus it's a chain class armor. However, since that means a group has to (God forbid) go into a dungeon to get it instead of depending on SoW to get them out of trouble I gues sit's a fair trade-off.
We completed a set of this armor (Minus the BP) for a bard in my guild on the Sullon Zek. He currently has a FS BP/Gloves/Boots and FS Katanas. The black with the silver really looks good. The MR is outstanding in PvP for the level.
A nice fashion for all of Norraths Seasons (especially football season for Raider fans *growls*) with a little MR for your PvP pleasure.
The set we completed was exclusivly off the snow puppies (Kobolds) at various camps. We did see BPs drop, just was unfortunate on the rolls.
This armor is a little better than bronze ( 1 tiny ac better ) looks like bronze but a hue or two darker...kinda like Crust. armor that drops off Othmir in CS. ( only no the vellious graphics ) My suggestion is if you have a lot of str to spare and are not a twink than this might be up your alley, but if you are a high elf pally or something close to that you might want to stick to bronze as this armor is a bit heavier...just my two cents though.
Good points...but it is nice to see a set of armor that can show people early in their EQ career how effective +saves items are.
A full suit of Etched Iron gives approx (estimation) 15-20 magic resistance. Maybe more if the BP has a large + to it. That would be nice against casters (and MR spells of course).
/shrug...I like them, and I'm always encumbered :)
It's black on my High Elf cleric. Looks just like the Cold Iron armor that's been dropping off of King Gragnar in the Warrens since the zone opened. Only difference is the slightly higher AC.
It is a very dark brown, almost black. I had the arms. I gave them to a newbie SK, and she loves them. SK's also need the extra Save vs Magic from what i understand, so it serves a dual purpose giving the arms to her. I am going to head back to try and get her the full set if I can, just to see what she looks like with a full set on. Gods do I love this game.
While wandering around the zone, I came up on a camp of these Highland Kobolds. Thought I'd have some fun and slaughtered the camp and a kobold that wandered by. The breastplate dropped off the wanderer and a few other pieces (legs, arms and choker) came of the kobold camp.
Nice enough for me to make a warrior twink in full black plate and two katanas.
Can you say samurai? =P
Kelce regards you haplessly -- you could drop kick him across OOT.
