Got one today.
I was semi-afk and someone said in General if
anyone wanted to come loot this sword and other drops.
I sent a tell, the guy put me in his fellowship and I
had me a slight upgrade to my old Swiftwind that I was
still carrying around at that point.

As far as I know only the Black Acrylia Rapier, Shimmering Ruby Stiletto (no longer drops) and this sword share the same graphic in all of EQ. Probably the best looking sword in game IMHO...uploaded picture above.

effect change
# Apr 25 2004 at 12:57 PM Rating: Decent
So, did they change the effect on this blade? in the posted discription, sez 30 AC, but no haste effect (kinda strange, considering the message you get when equipping, RE "your heart begins to race" and all that). If this is correct, i can see both good and bad. with TLotG'g ability to be equipped in primary, now makes a nice companion to Swiftwind, without everyone and there brother sending you tells about how the haste effects don't stack, and the 30 AC is a nice thing for Rangers, who generally suffer in that department. however, having said that, 30 ac is kind of a mundane effect for an item that drops from one the game's toughest mobs (to this day imho). still, the lack of a flashy, high damage effect is not going to disuade me from wishing for one of these, hoepfully geting one someday.

Don't have one of these, but I'm confident that it still has its haste. They took haste off of worn spell effects where applicable, and applied "Haste: 40%" and "Attack: +30" and similar things. So the effect here on Allakhazam's, which is up to date, doesn't have haste on it. But the picture is not up to date, it doesn't show haste.. for that you might go to the item's entry at Lucy's. The link is near the top of this page, or it is this: Lucy's link for Tolan's sword

I've done Vulak Aerr a few times and admitedly we're an elemental guild but I wouldn't say that she is one of the hardest mobs in the game. Just boring! First time round it took us 7 hours to do with LOTS of sitting around doing nothing!

Swiftwind . . .pfff
# Feb 16 2004 at 11:42 PM Rating: Decent
Don't know if anyone has said this already but, IMO this is better then Swiftwind, better stats (atk/delay wise((atleast)) and one hard kill compared to a bunch of camping kills/running around.
RE: Swiftwind . . .pfff
# May 02 2004 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
Well yes, this is better than Swiftwind, and that is of course appropriate, considering that this comes off of (what was supposed to be) one of the hardest encounters in the Velious expansion, and Swiftwind is the epic from the Kunark expansion. Epics can be done by small groups nowadays, and while this is the result of one encounter, it is still harder to get than Swiftwind for most people, especially considering that it only has a chance to drop.
#ZELLGODDESS, Posted: Feb 16 2004 at 3:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wow! look at the crapy sword we get, lol. yea i said crapy come on ac like a ranger even needs that. there are a few things in game that contribute to a charater raw hp, regen, ac, and attack. out of all these a primary must for all rangers is attack, this is becuse if your in any group that has a inkling of what there doing the ranger will not take a single bit of damage. this is becuase a rangers primary mission is to do as much damage as they can as fast as they can. rangers are ment to be fast malees haste is great but not at the sacrafice of the amount of damage thay can do with there already fast wepons!

tolans armor is good and all, but if tolans armor is what tolan used, theres no way in heck he got here in the 1st place, so if tolan died here, leaving his sword, there must be some better tolans stuff, either that or his friend PLed him (i wonder if tolan was the char name of a beta tester....hmmmm)

RE: Nice weapon, here's some thoughts
# Dec 19 2002 at 2:19 PM Rating: Decent
No it won't stack with other haste effects (the haste component of the effect anyway). You didn't caculate the delay correctly, the %haste listed on the item is NOT a direct reduction in the delay, it's an increase in the number of swings per unit time. Thus, relative at 100% swinging (with no haste), this sword would wing at 140%, giving you a delay reduction of about 38.8% (100/140 ratio times the delay gives you the effective delay). This weapon becomes ~15/15.

If you are using your Trueshot Discipline, the Swiftwind epic is infinitely more useful, due to the ATK that's a component of the effect on the weapon. ATK has been proven to have an incremental increase in damage up to about 1700-1750. An increase of 10 atk loosely translates into a damage increase of 1%. Thus the 30 raw ATK on the Swiftwind gives you much more than 30ac since you shouldn't be tanking while using your bow.

The effects on these weapons are NOT procs. The effects on most other weapons that are randomly triggered are procs (short for process). That does not, however, infer that all effects on weapons are procs; in this case they are resident worn effects.

yeah, what he said, lol
#REDACTED, Posted: May 13 2003 at 6:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont think ATK bonuses affect Archery only melee. Your ATK mod is only based on weapon skill + ATK bonuses and Offensive bonus.
RE: Nice weapon, here's some thoughts
# Jun 28 2003 at 2:43 PM Rating: Good
Wrong - incredibly wrong.

Atk affects any non-magical source of damage a ranger can do - those being archery/melee.
RE: Nice weapon, here's some thoughts
# Dec 19 2003 at 4:30 PM Rating: Default
Umm... his calculation of haste was 100% correct, and if you are arguing whether his ATK statement was wrong or not, maybe you should learn to read before you write it for all to see.

What he said was 100% correct. This weapon has *AC* boost as part of its effect, not ATK. Im not sure what your point was, but I am positive his point was well stated, logical and correct.

The ATK bonus he was referring to is the effect on the Swiftwind. The offhand epic weapon has 40% haste and a 30 ATK bonus. This weapong has 40% haste and a 30 AC bonus. They were comparing the two weapons.

Personally, I think the ratio and versatility of this weapon make it a little bit better. Get a vengeance 3 augment or better and you're basically set on the ATK, anyway.

LDoN was not released at the time of this weapons release....or even at the time of this post. Augmenting a weapon was far distant future, unfortuneately the dates are wrong on the posts, as they should all be 1 year older than listed...maybe 2 years (god knows when this threads started)

To make Vulak spawn now, you would have to clear NToV and complete the Ring quest. Ring quest involves endless spawns of drakes, wurms etc. that will put any guilds true standard to a maximum test.
We have done the quest many times and never been able to spawn Vulak. No guild has on any server for like 5 months now. Guess wielding this seems kind of out of reach atm.
The blade is bagged for me now anyhow, since I wield better atm. Just a shame I cant pass it on to someone that would appriciate it as much as I have in the past.

For reference, Mortalis (the AB guild of poster above) is a pretty damn good guild - they now reside on Venril Sathir, and got in to PoT about a week after AL did, so they're well up there at the top end of the game. Not sure if they were as top-level when that guy posted a year ago, but if they were then you can assume that the dragon is pretty damn hard to spawn.

Update on this blade
# Jan 10 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
I just got this blade this evening and is one happy ranger.
However.... The blade has had an up- and a downgrade.
Unfortunately it is no longer both primary and secondary usable.
ONLY primary.
The effect on the blade is NOT a proc as it might seem here. Effect is permanently active. This is somewhat disappointing since the haste on this will NOT stack with Swiftwind as it would have if it had been a proc.
Stats have been improved some:
Same dmg/delay factor.
Still AC15 bonus.
Dmg bonus is 11.
Str10, Dex15, wis15, agi15.
HP has been upgraded to 100.
All resists are still the same at 7.
Effect: Blessing of the Grove.

For soloing this blade would have made an awesome combo with Earthcaller. Guess VI saw that too hence the nerf from both hands to mainhand only. Now I have to switch blade midfighting after Earthcaller has proced to uptimize dmg output. Total AC benefit from Earthcaller to Tolans blade is 53 AC.

When raiding however there is not really any need for the Earthcaller proc. Thus this blade is an awesome combo with a Primal Warsword. That combo is of now (lets see what SoL will bring in the future :-)) the best for a ranger when it comes to uptimizing DPS.

Awesome Blade. Drool. As far as should Warriors complain to Verant? Heck no..just say "Why don't we have anything like this?" Why can't reasonable reasoning work..no instead all you rangers out there flame the hell out of us if we ask for anything in fear that your precious little weaps and stuff might get nerfed. Sure wish you would help us out sometimes. Instead you have continued class struggle. It ok...love you guys ;)
RE: Awesome Blade
# Jun 12 2002 at 9:41 PM Rating: Good
I partially agree with you. From my experience, though, it seems that rangers are meant for helping casters with aggro. If a caster on a raid has the aggro of some 400dmg quadding brute, then the ranger pops it with an arrow, casts snare, then runs up to it and taunts. As soon as warrior gets up there, you cast jolt and aggro transfers to the warrior. You gotta think "Hey, why exactly did VI make my class?". Also we're great damage dealers. So yes we should still be concerned about getting good weapons and all, but where a caster in need, there should be a ranger indeed... or something like that =)

I too believe Tolan is a half elf, or want to, being a human, no way, being a wood elf, no, because then you would see Tolan in the Firona Vie series, I see Tolan and Mylokar as both half elf guys who are just trying to get along.

Half Elves are welcomed by Tunare, as are Karana followers, she doesnt turn away those who nurture nature.....

The sword is nice, but I just made up to story because too many weapons come from places and you have to ask yourself, HOW THE HELL DID IT GET HERE? or if THEY HAD THIS INCREDIBLE ARMOR/WEAPON WHY WHERE THEY DEFEATED SO EASILY??

I would personally love to make a LORE item, have a story when identified, like small little backstory of the weapon, and its creation. Some weapons do this, like the rogue epic, ragebringer, try identififying it and see the intresting thing that pops up.

Lore should mean just that, some Lore, I mean come on, they need to add a little flavor to this hack and slash game.
