This dropped 03/31/2008 on E.Marr, so yes, it does still drop. Just extremely rare (and kinda useless - its his worst drop - its a good thing it hardly ever drops).
I guess I am lucky... I bought one of these on the Povar server for 3K... It is such a killer item all I needed was a Str piece for the ear and this is what I found..
Our guild killed Vindi for the first time yesterday and the Living Thunder Earring dropped. We were quite disappointed cause we were hoping for the breastplate or boots, heh.
If you have the force to kill Vindi then be happy, many breastplates and boots are in your future, but be happier that you saw the earring. The only time I have -ever- seen it drop, it was awarded to me, and I'll never let it go due to great sentamentle value. It's great if you dont have a clicky see-invis, great for pulling if your a warrior, and probably useful to monks and SK's as well as bards and any other classes that pull. I'm not sure because I have never played any of those for any realy amount of time.
Just keep things in prospective here: Remember, we discovered this thing right after Velious came out...at the time, this item was so incredibly ubber that everyone stared at awe in this incredible item. Its MR and See Invis only compounded its value on my server- Rallos Zek- making it...just...well, there was nothing to begin to compare with it. Now we have the Druidic cabage quest with the FT earring (EoS) for all races, earrings and items of this type seem much more within reason. I forget its name- there's a robe now that's Flowing Thought 10, +100 all saves, +30 int, +5wis/some other stat, +some mana (and HP?), like 60 or 80AC, incredible items are just taken for granted... this thing was the Holy Grail! Haha, just an EQ ancient going on about forgotten times when noobs really really wanted fine steel weapons and last names were great... haha, peace all. Remember that this thing came out in an era that astounded us all!

Yes, even the most uber of guilds roll on stuff. Not everything is /awarded. That is why thier are point systems and tiers to attain. I don't think many guilds could hold together very long if everything was awarded because you would NOT be able to keep everyone happy.
We killed Derakor the Vindicator over 30x, and I've seen this Earring drop ONCE. It is insanely rare, and the Vindicator requires a decent size force to kill. Expect to see a TON of boots and breastplates before you see even one of these, and then good luck on getting to loot/keep it.
If you define a monk item as something that should default automatically to a monk before any other classes that want it, then it is NOT a monk item. Earrings are almost always light-weight, so the light weight of this item means nothing as far as making it a monk item. This earring would be considered a very nice earring by almost anybody that can use it. It would almost certainly end up on melee classes before casters however. If perchance 95% of all earrings weighed five pounds each, then this might qualify as a "monk item", but they don't and it doesn't.
If you define a monk item as something that would be great for a monk to have, then yes, this is a "monk item". My guild has killed the Vindicator once. We plan to kill him more in the future. Maybe I will get one of these earrings one day, but it won't be just because I am a monk.
Is there such a thing as a "monk item", i.e. an item that should automatically go to a monk? Yes, there is. There is also such a thing as an "enchanter item", a "cleric item", a "warrior item", a "rogue item", etc. Other classes just don't get as excited and vocal about discovering an item that is good for them as monks do because of our severe equipment restrictions.
One thing that many people can't seem to understand is that "ALL/ALL" on an item don't mean jack at the high-end of the game. If this earring had 3 AC, +20 Charisma, and +100 mana, even if it said "ALL/ALL", a monk would NEVER get it. It would go to an enchanter because it would be an "enchanter item". I have even seen people suggest random rolling on items such as this. The only time random rolling would be done on an item like this would be if the people in charge of loot couldn't decide between two or three finalists for possession of the earring.
Can monks be annoying with all these "monk item" comments? Yes, sometimes they annoy even me. Sometimes I even agree with them and they still annoy me.
Do people over-react to "monk item" comments and display the maturity of your average eight year old child? Do they heap unwarranted abuse on anyone who dares to use that hated phrase? Can they be even more annoying than the person who posted the "monk item" comment in the first place? The answers to these questions are: "Yes", "Yes", and "Emphatically Yes!"
As a lvl 55 monk myself i would say no. Just from it not haveing hps or sta to add HPs. Str is EAZY to get sv maigc is nice, but as the only save i wouldn't get it for that. The ac is nice, but not that nice. Anyways theres another 55 monk opinion. =)

I'm so #@^%*%^ sick of monks calling all stuff thats 0.0 monk only, they take all the bags from 100% reduce bags from raids and now all these stuff. thats bs

its not that he needs to lighten up, I mean come on how many megs of space are wasted by all of these people posting "0.0 this has to be a monk item". honestly i think 99.9999% of the children that make these posts dont even play monks themselves. and please flame me for stating my opinion without going anon.
The person below me is right, this thing doesn't have a value because whatever guild member it would be awarded to would never sell it. If he by some chance wanted to get rid of it, it'd probably HAVE to go to another guildie. Great earring tho! Kinda cruddy graphic, but hey, they can't do everything. =)
actually I've seen this earring go up for sale a few times, guilds killing AoW sometimes gotta take vindi out to get to the idol, they get an earring that no one needs, so they put it in the guild bank and sell it
You are Correct. I am a proud member of CT & as such I can tell you that you will NEVER see this personal Earring up for auction. We have a Rule that if any item gotten on a Guild High Level Raid is to be given back to the guild once you get a better item & then that item will be re-lotted inguild.
There's absolutely no point in trying to put a value on something like this, no sane person would ever sell something like this... I know for sure I wouldn't if I was ever lucky enough to be awarded this earring.
Lanerin Leafdancer 51 Bard Aurora Polaris Tunare Server
Aye, Lanerin. This item would never be sold. If the person lucky enough to get this was ever fortunate enough to get something better than this (i'm sure there are better earrings than this not discovered yet), this item would most definetely be passed down in-guild. You won't see this auctioned until they become as common as cougar claw earrings.
hehe, I'm a human tank, always need str, and AC rocks on this thing... I do owe those giants in Kael a bit of revenge.. time to go raidin' it looks like.
the vindicator is a really nasty giant in kael, he's very capable of taking out an entire guild if your not ready for him. if you kill him you'll take a rather large faction hit against the giants just as if you killed king tormax.
I want to get one of these , but they will probably be way to much for me to afford....how much does this thing sell for?
Bumpilis 15th lvl war Cazic Thule Server (i'm proud to be a newbie....its fun explorin when you don't know what thing is gonna beat on ya next...just go from zone to zone and hope you survive)
