When doing the traitor heads for ring 9 you need to give peffin a note (or sth - i forgot - look up the coldain ring quest!)
She respawns at the campfire with 5 or 6 giants around her - all mobs are permaroot, giants summon, Peffin doesnt.

Havent done quest again on twinks but she dropped it for me when i killed her there.

Does this bow only drop during the actual ring war or is it always in her loot table? I had killed this mob numerous (20-ish) times while camping the giant fort and have never seen this bow drop off her. Item info states it is "very rare", maybe I just didn't beat the RNG.

I think she only has this bow as part of the Coldain Ring #9 quest. She only has it when her loot table gets reloaded after she respawns outside once the Letter to Peffin is handed to her. If you kill her in the north side stone building, without the repawn, she never has it.

Just got this bow on Sunday. The one called Peffin drops it who's part of the 9th coldain rign quest where you need to collecet heads. She hit me pretty hard even for a 60 warrior. Not a bad bow.

A freind of mine had given me the Talisen after completing the 9th Ring Quest and i can defineatly say for a mid lvl ranger it works great cant complain...much better than an easily
attainable Trueshot or Spectral Bow.

Not likely a bug... if you sell this to vendors (for what idiotic reason, I don't know) they only offer about 2sp for it. So on the rare chance that some player sold it to a merchant, that's about what they'd charge to sell it. Consider yourself the benefactor of an amazing bargain! My brother once found a lambent breastplate for sale by a merchant for only 57pp, again a result of some idiotic, or at least eccentric, player selling a valuable item for a pittance to an NPC merchant.

Kind of like what happened to my bard on Mith Marr. I was buying my songs at Katta when I notice some quite useful items on the merchants (mostly Validus Custodus and Coterie armor, hey, I just started on this server so it was some pretty nice stuff). Then I found this bow on the same merchant I get my songs from for 5gp, I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw the stats on it! That's a pretty sweet deal for 5gp.
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 13 2001 at 4:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is a fabulous bow. Good stats, great upgrade from that TT bow from the forager cycle. Anyhow if you want to get this bow, help with the ring quest. This quest only takes 1 group. And the faction hit is very small ( and no tormax hits!) so Kael folks (like me) can help out too. Don't ask how we do it with just 1 group it's a secret.

"Talisen the Silent" is a rogue player on quellious and Verant gave this bow the name Talisen because he has been the first person on all servers who finished the 9th coldain ring quest.
There is also a huge thread about it on safehouse...might be in their news archieve by now.

Many quested items are named after the first player to complete the quest... the earring you get for doing the POTC quest (the druid only version, not the earring that's all/all that you can turn in it for), Xanthe's Earring of Nature, is named after Xanthe Ravenwolf, a druid on Bertoxxulous who was the first to solve and complte the quest.

# Mar 27 2002 at 5:01 PM Rating: Decent
Whether or not a bow is MAGIC has no bearing on anything important, barring some situational quest or something. You can hit magic-only critters with magic arrows, the bow makes no difference. It's along the lines of MAGIC breastplates...nice stats, but so what if it's MAGIC or not?
RE: nice
# May 27 2003 at 3:49 PM Rating: Default
Becasue if its not magic, A rogue could pick pocket it. Many rogues would be filthy rich if most items that are worth a hoot were not Magic.

Since the only resrictions on Pickpocket are
1. cannot be magic
2. cannot be no drop
3. cannot pick wepon weided
Lore items can be picked

Thus this is why weapons and other items that are not no drop, and are on a mob level 60 and lower, are made magic. Otherwise, the camps would be clean, from rogues picking them like mad to get money.

Mind you this is just a reference to Why armor is magic, Magic weapons are needed to hit magical creatures, willowisps, imps, fairies. crappola like that.

It drops off Peffin during the 9th coldain ring quest part in East Wastes.

True, some might want a priceless/primal bow over this one, lord knows I would. But the good thing about it is that its droppable =P So when I do get my priceless/primal bow I can give this to a friend =)

I hear rumor that this bow is a replacement for the nerfed Andarra's Bow of the Unseen which occurs when doing coldain ring quests.
Don't know if that is true but nevertheless heard the rumor. If so that would really suck because of a bunch of rangers crying that the bow was rogue only and that it was not fair. If you want to see all the whining go look at discussion board for Andarra's Bow of the Unseen.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 08 2001 at 4:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This bow is OK for rangers, not great, but OK. Why?? Well since its for the levels of the coldain<>giants war, they COULD go to sleepers(55+) or ToV or heck even someplace else(seb, windsaber) to get a good bow. Nice stats and all, but for the level it is its a bit less. Though the bows that drop in those places are rare, this prolly won't cut it for the ones that actually get to the tenth ring.

Sleeper isnt a 55+ zone, you need a good couple of groups or a raid force, and everyone of them have to have a key to enter which takes a long time to get
RE: Ok bow
# Aug 08 2001 at 10:57 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, for that level, it is an okay bow. For a mid level ranger (this bow is not nodrop), this is a great bow, if the ranger has already learned how to use a bow.

NOOOOOO this item should NOT be used as a PULLING BOW!!! for cripes sakes you're gonna make a ranger cry here! This is definitely NOT a pulling bow, praise tunare, no way a pulling bow! this bow is made to shoot, to hunt, to slowly wittle down on a creatures health. Pulling is its retirement duties. Bah don't send this wonderful pup out to pasture yet!

THE best pulling bow is the bow with the BEST range... damage should be second... wouldn't it be great to be able to hit a mob OUTSIDE of its casting range...

When looking for bows:
1) LONG Range: most important for pulling from far away, damage negligible
2) Short Range: want MOST damage because these will be dungeon bows
3) Dmg/Dly: Rangers best friend, can be used in combination with root/snare/DoTs to kite or whittle the enemies life down.
4) High Damage: good if you're not the puller but like to get a nice shot in as the Mob is Incoming
5) Low Delay: Good to practice skill

I semi agree with this.. Yes, a pulling bow should be able to reach out and touch somebody from a long ways off, but Every point of damage you do without taking a point in return is a good thing. I personally use a rough darkwood, with whatver arrows I happen to be slogging through in my molasses-like fletching skill increase. If I happen to be using arrows with +150 range on top of my 150 range (I think, not sure) bow, GREAT! If they are only 25's.. oh well.. I still wiggle in my seat when I pull a mob with a 60 point arrow crit, or a regular shot for 25-26 points..
what drops this?
# Aug 07 2001 at 7:38 PM Rating: Default
I wouldnt mind just having this in my range slot even when not pulling... much better stats than my frost covered tome.

So what drops this item? I want one....

This wasn't one of the top five bows. There are much better bows than this:

Primal (ST)
Priceless (ST)
Double Recruve Velium (DN)
Bow of the Silver Fang (ToV)
Recurved Velium (DN)
Light Velium (DN)
Windstriker (PoS)
Bow of the Huntsmen (Kael)
Skydarkener (Wuoshi)

Some of those are RNG only

Rogues also use bows and don't restrict themselves to just throwing items. This is because most thrown items have a very small range and can't be used when pulling from long distances. Good bows on the other hand allow pulls from a much further distance for a cheap cost of arrows.

Well, If you contact Rathnor on Rallos, He'll hook you up with some uber throwing utensil's. 7damage 3 delay, and 205 range. Yea you know you want 'em
RE: Retribution Now!
# Aug 08 2001 at 7:50 AM Rating: Default
I think your stats are a little off skew here, the forged javelin that youre more than likely talking about is 7 damage 33 delay with a 205 range. If it was 7/3 why would you throw it, rouges would melee with it all day.
Also i just discovered the antonican javelin made by human smiths packs a 300 range...
RE: Retribution Now!
# Aug 08 2001 at 3:17 PM Rating: Default
Antonian Javelin is 250 Range:

http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=4460

And too expensive to use on a regular basis for all but the richest folks. They are made from the same kind of sheets of metal that Fine Steel Plate are made of. I don't know too many people that can afford to throw Fine Steel Bracers at MOBs.

Heck, give a Rogue a range 300 throwing weapon with stats like the bow (and that returns and is not expended, or alternately is summoned from an item and is No Drop) and I don't know a Rogue that wouldn't use it. I don't much care for using a bow but if I am pulling outdoors I need that range and could care less about the damage or delay. Heck, crits and deadly strikes with thrown weapons are kinda laughable anyways. The last thing I want when pulling is an angry critter. I'd settle for a 1 damage item quite happily. Still the best pulling item is the Myro Guantlets. Pulling with dispell magic is much better in most cases.

cheers,
Celeris
