A Test ??

Finaly, some of the stuff from Vulak is being leaked through. Allthough this robe has been on noows.com for quite some time, maybe they will be posting more loot soon (doubt it). And vulak has been killed on two servers actualy ( maybe more, come on silent redemption!) because AL did it on mith. Both AL and FoH have stopped posting loot, and FoH's msgboard has became a whining and **** throwing arena. Maybe this will stop it(once again , doubt it)

I feel somewhat responsible for the explosion of threads on this robe in the last 2 days. Please allow me to explain.

I occasionally check out the uberguild sites just to see what's happening in the high end game. I saw threads on those boards about how some of the Velious stuff was better (or not) than epic weapons and planar gear. It occurred to me that with how faction comes into play in Velious, that I needed a long-term strategy for gear acquisition there. In other words, what drops did I REALLY want, and what was I willing to do to get them?

I "created" a character on this site with similar stats to my main, only much higher level. I then started playing the "Barbie Doll" game by dressing that character in the various loot combinations that you can call up from this site, just to see what was possible.

I noticed that this robe wasn't on this site, even though it had been posted on the FoH site for several weeks. Although I respect FoH's decision to not publicize new drops, this was already public knowlege. So, as a favor to users of Allakhazam, I copied the information from the FoH site (it was also already on Graffe's by then), and emailed it here. Because of the virus, I did it a second time yesterday. I'm a little chagrined that Allakhzam chose to use the version from Graffe's instead of the FoH version that I sent in, but that's his perogative.

I think it's a shame that Verant's actions regarding the dagger that Vulak drops have lead to a clampdown on information releases from the uberguilds. Those guys have earned the right to brag, they should be able to do so without looking over their shoulders in fear. In real life, we have our Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryants and Lance Armstrongs to look up to. In Eq, why shouldn't the rest of us be able to see what the uberguilds get and dream that maybe someday, we might be able to get, too?

Regarding the stats on this robe, what high level casters are really interested in is Int, Mana, and resists (especially magic resist, although cold and fire are close behind). There are at least 2 other robes in the game that have the same +Mana and magic resist stats. The extra intelligence doesn't matter, since even if you are decked out in +Mana or resist gear, at the high end you are over the HARD cap (+255!) for Int! Make a caster toon for yourself on this site and try it out for yourself if you don't believe me. Flowing Thought? If you have so much as one other Flowing Thought item, this adds nothing. That leaves AC.

Yeah, those level 60 Wizards with Dragonbane tank Velious mobs all the time. Not!

This is the robe that made me appreciate just how good my class's epic really is. Maybe someday...maybe.

Well WHEN u get this robe and still think its too good only then complain, FoH stopped posting all loots becouse some whiner achived that they nerfed mrylorkar's dagger of blood... now thats just ugly. One other thing... is someone wearing this robe going to be insanely more powerful then before? Is he going to do more damage? Is he going to be significantly harder to hit? NO!!! It took 2 guilds with members equiped so good that you cannot remotely imagine to kill this dragon and it has only been killed on one server so quit yer whining. It is not TOO GOOD its perfect for risk-vs-reward.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 25 2001 at 10:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Geez some of you donkeys make me sick! We finally got rid of most of the morons who kept posting that everything was a monk item, now those same people who will never get past level 20 and never see the border to these zones, let alone get loot from inside of them, are screaming for nerfs! Verant screws up and nerfs enough things as it is, we don't need you whining because one person on one server got an amazing item that maybe a dozen other people will have a shot at getting MAYBE in the next YEAR! Do you all realize we have what, 30 or 40 servers, hence you can expect MAYBE 1 person per 3 or 4 SERVERS get this or similar items. The rarity of these drops and the skill, teamwork and time needed to get these drops makes the epic weapons look like rusty freakin broadswords! Most of us will not see the wimpiest drop in ToV anytime soon, let alone get so many that it would make any sense to nerf something except to make you feel like you screwed someone out of their hard-earned rewards. Just quit yer whinin and go back to killing your orcs and spamming Gbay with attempts to sell rawhide armor and bronze daggers.

Second the amening there. Let's put some specifics to these generalities kids:

This is not a mob you can farm, it's not a mob that is going to outfit every single caster in a given uber guild in these robes...

Little bit of history. About three weeks ago Fires of Heaven took down this mob for the very first time in the history of EQ since it has been in the game. They've been hunting in ToV for months, and have tried numerous times on this badboy. Wipeout, every time. So, what did they do? They drew upon the second most powerful guild on their server and the two most powerful guilds, one of which is possibly the most powerful guild in EQ altogether, went at it. Collectively it took the finest of both of those very fine guilds, IE, creme de la creme, literally, to take down this mob. And it took them in large numbers, and a very long time.

An example. Visit noows.com, FoHs news site. When this was first announced all sorts of folks flocked to their boards congratulating them and Cestus Dei. One of which was a person who was raiding ToV at the time, but wasn't on the Vulak raid. His group was in the Hall of Testing, and suffered a wipeout when FoH and CD first begun the battle. The group then came in, rebroke, got rezzed, buffed up, and FoH and Cestus Dei were STILL fighting the same mob. Anyone who has ever even walked into ToV will realize how long CRs take, meaning this battle took a long, long time.

(This isn't a myth, it on the second page of this link: http://www.noows.com/showthread.php?s=05a00eb5219b22c95447df2fcdcb90d0&threadid=2155)

Moreover, this single mob is probably the hardest *killable* mob in the game. Meaning, mobs who Verant permits us to kill. Those who cite the Sleeper or Tunare obviously don't have quite a grasp of what I mean. The Sleeper and Tunare are made to be undefeatable so that there's always some unexplored territory to keep the customer allured. (Watch, shortly after Luclin is released, give it three months, the Sleeper and Tunare will both be defeated after a miraculous patch. But then we'll have an undefeatable Luclin on our hands, or a grandmaster Kerran nasty.)

Meaning, all in all, this is probably the single greatest achievement a guild can aspire to in EQ right now. The loot should be of just the slightest reflection of that.

Congrats to the casters and clerics walking away with this incredible robe.
Agree with a lot of what you said
# Jul 26 2001 at 6:57 AM Rating: Default
Our longest Vulak fight has been 23 minutes. Long time to keep it going. It's funny having wizards harvesting multiple times, mend recycling, having tanks use defensive multiple times, etc.

CD is an extremely capable guild, but it is kind of a misconception to think they are very large. Them + FoH gives you basically the same amount of total people as what Afterlife is bringing to bear on the same mob.

As for Tunare, AoW, 4th warder- Vulak took a couple months of learning the area to try. We really did the area exclusively during the period. So can't really say the other three are harder yet, since we just haven't tried them- just been too busy with Vulak'Aerr and his pets. Some of his pet dragons took a long time to figure out.

Amen broham, I just gotta add, maybe if yall thought before complaining, this dragon probably hasn't been killed enough to know all of its potential loot. So there might be a warrior BP out there somewhere, and keep in mind that the PoM Cleric BP is 60 AC too, no ones found a warrior BP up there either.

edit: ignore my signature, I'm in Sacred Legends now after the merger of Northern Lights and Sacred Legends, thanks.

Peace,

overkill? NOPE!!!
# Jul 25 2001 at 9:12 PM Rating: Good
to even suggest that this item is too "good" a reward without (imho) understanding what is involved is WRONG. you assume that this mob is just some simple dragon sitting all alone waiting to be killed. first off, the zone this mob is in is probably harder than any plane that you've been to. there are a bunch of power guilds camping the zone throughout the day mostly doing single pulls because most of the mobs are lvl 60+ and GATE if they're about to die. its not uncommon to see a mob gate and then train a guild with wurms and drakes and heck, named dragons, and wiping out the entire camp. to get further down the northwing of ToV is extremely difficult to say the least. this item is a fair reward for what any guild has to endure to get Vulak...much less kill him.

as for your comment on quests...they are still being done in droves. i don't know what server you're on, but i know my server doesn't have an extreme lack of people questing for the velious armors, factions, and weapons. the epic quests are being done constantly and i seriously don't think those quests are as difficult as getting to vulak. another thing to remember is, FoH and AL didn't just decide one day to go over to the northwing to kill vulak for fun. the raid to north wing was a planned project of sorta that took 2months to complete. trial and error..and a lot of wipeouts later, the accomplished their goal.

and as for you wanting to nerf this item, i will only say this. if this item should be nerfed, then all the epics, quested, and dropped items should be toned down by 40% of what they were. furthermore, they should make more bottlenecks for the epics and increase the difficulty of the mobs involved by 300%. that way, everyone can get screwed and this game can come to a end!!! and by then...we can get to AO or something else that isn't so buggy and..hopefully..leave the whiners like you behind. :) (that is my flame on you!) okay, i'm done.
RE: overkill? NOPE!!!
# Jul 25 2001 at 9:32 PM Rating: Default
I respectfully disagree. What's the point of having class-specific armors if you break the rules you set with them? Does it make any sense whatsoever that this is tied with the best *warrior* chestpiece in the game for AC? Sure, its not as if a caster can get a complete set of this stuff, but I'm sure it makes the warriors feel pretty cheap.

That being said, the point is probably entirely moot. If the mob is as hard as you say, there will be at most a handful on each server, so its not really a balance issue. Even so, IMHO this item very much goes against the grain of the game.

Oh, and as to the last paragraph, what are you smoking? Your progession doesn't make any sense to me.
RE: overkill? NOPE!!!
# Jul 27 2001 at 8:10 AM Rating: Default
I think that a robe made of the skin of a dragon should be a much better armor that any plate made for a warrior out there. At least I think they could make this wearable by everyone. At least warriors. Warriors in robes, like the templars, I think it might look cool. Anyway, like many people said, this dragon has yet to be killed a thousand times so we can see ALL the loot it drops. There might be some plate armor with 100AC and stuff... So please, quit whining. Most of those complaining will never get to hunt in ToV so STFU, the others don't have a clue.

RE: overkill? NOPE!!!
# Jul 26 2001 at 10:51 PM Rating: Decent
to enlighten you Kione...

the reason i said what i said in my last paragraph was to illustrate, in a manner, what he was proposing. how many people would like to work on an epic and then see that very item get nerfed? he suggests that this item should be nerfed because its TOO good in his opinion. well, many can say a lot of quested items are too powerful as well. the epic, the velious armor, etc. if ONE person should get screwed because some other person is griping about something he probably envies more than anything, then i would just have it done in one BIG nerf. would save us all a lot of time.

and for your information, what i'm smoking is my own business!

btw, i didn't know you were the game designer that worked with the team of programmers to know what the "grain" of this game was. maybe you should make it more CLEAR with the rest of us. =p

Yes this IS better then the best KNOWN warrior BP, but think Vulak'Aerr has been killed what 1 or 2 times now and on how many servers?? Think of what other kinds of loot will drop off this guy, and imagine the stats on them. Then also think of the rarity of the loot that will fall of him. I say good job on creating an awesome piece of armor that will keep MANY a player yearning to get to those high levels. Lets not bash this armor, but think of this as the entrance to MUCH better pieces for other classes.

Clinck, Im sorry but you are dead wrong here. Do you even have a remote clue as to the difficulty it is to get TO, then KILL the dragon that drops this robe. Only 2 guilds can do it, with hours and hours of constant battle. The Gods, are weak and puny compared to the MOB this item drops from.

Quite frankly only about 0.1% of the everquest population will get to see this creature in person, and of that percentage MAYBE 10% will be able to kill it. Dont be so quick to scream for Nerfs. Just because you think it is too good, the person who now wears this item has thousands of hours invested in Gametime and died several hundred times to even GET a shot at killing Vulak'Err.

Take some time to learn what you are talking about before you talk. From those statements you made, you'll never even be close to anyone who has one of these robes much less have any basis for making an opinion on if this item is "a bit too good."

This item comes from VULAK'AERR. That's ALL that has to be said. If you don't know the name and reputation of V'A, that again shows your ignorance of this item's origin and backs up the total lack of worth of your opinion.

This is a dragon that can eat 99.9% of the characters in EQ for a light snack. It takes WELL organized Guild raids of 50+ level 55 minimum characters to even attempt to kill V'A.

Even comparing this thing to an Epic Weapon again shows your lack of knowledge. It takes 20 times more effort to even attempt to get this robe than the hardest Epic Weapon. Most people can expect to be able to get an Epic with reasonable chance of success. If you expect to get this Robe, either you are a professional EQ Player who's on 18 hours a day, 7 days a week in an Uberguild and Right-Hand Cleric/Caster to the Guild Leader or else you are plain totally delusional.
RE: Here's your flame.

Um... you made Vulak sound too easy. Fires of Heaven dropped Vulak along with members of Cestus Dei(sp?). There were around 70-75 total people there and NOBODY was 55. I believe everyone there was either 59 or 60, with most being 60.

It's losers like that other guy that got the Mrylokar's Dagger of Blood nerfed, which btw also drops from Vulak. And people wonder why FoH will no longer share the stats on drops with ANYONE outside their guild.

Unless, of course, that Cleric is a Dwarf, or a Halfling.

As to why Clerics get to use it... well, there are lots and lots of Robes that a Cleric can wear. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to. A Robe is a very Priestly rainment.
RE: BAH!

well if that's the logic behind it, druids should be able to use it too...druids wear robes, that's pretty much all they wear in fantasy...they -are- priests, people tend to forget that.

the robe will go to a cleric, you just know it...it makes sense, too. Of the classes listed, who makes the biggest impact in high lvl encounters? Cleric. Who needs to stay alive the most? Cleric. Good luck int casters and SKs :)
