My Monk has these leggings, and Ancient Wyvern hide from Ikiatar the Venom, and Ornate .
In reality I rarely use these , most often I end up using the Ancient wyvern for the 5 extra stam and 5str, or the Ornate for the extra couple hps when stam is really high from raid buffs and for the better resists.
They are dam good leggings if you dont have any better, and yea I think it is a waste for a warrior to get these, however Rangers wear these a long time when they win them mainly cause everyone hates rangers and makes it hard for them to win anything better.
So whoever wins them from now on I dont care, gratz to whoever you are cause I dont have to worry about it ,, I have em :)

Flame me if you wish but I also feel that far too many people post that far too many items are "monk gear". Mention you want something or even that you need something but don't flame others for taking it before a poor little monk. It is not my fault that someone chose to play a class that cannot carry as much loot to sell or money and therefore it not my place to feel bad for them when nice lightweight armor or equipment comes along. By the logic alot of you follow it seems that all 100% weight reduction packs would default to any monks involved. Bunk i say, pure bunk.

except that the AWH leggings give +25AGI also..DOH!
which is about +5AC gives you +30AC total plus and extra +5Sta

Let me clue you in on reality thats not clouded by pagan AC m0nkeyB0yE worship....

Unless that extra 16AC is going to put you over your next 100AC barrier (1000/1100/1200etc)then the extra 16AC is totally meaningless esp to a NON plate class...Monks like Beastlords are an AVOIDANCE class....+25 AGI will do way more for you than that +16AC...

Plus you get an extra 20HPs.....

Even if as a Monk you can get your AC up to 1400AC (which basically means you just F*cked yourself out of something like AGI/Sta etc to get that high a AC) then your still NOT going to mitigate damage as well as a Warrior with just 1000AC.....your better off with 1200AC and 250+AGI than 1400AC with 100AGI.....

and a Beastlord could use any of those legs you listed every bit as much as a Monk, and if they dont have better (which they wont cuz these are about as good as it gets for a beast)then they have just as much right to have a chance at them...
In the 'UBER guild" as you put it, Monks are dime a dozen...a good high lvl 62+ Beastlord isnt..(I was in TOV a couple weeks ago was 129 in zone..I was the ONLY Beastlord).....and technically a Beast has just as much if not MORE to offer a raiding party than any Monk.
also as a general rule a high lvl Beastlord will be doing as much if not more melee as a Monk and IF they happen to be one of the slowers or "PREslowers" & Debuffers then will without a doubt draw more aggro than a Monk...
A Monk can FD, Beast cant....I sometimes PREslow standing right next to the Warrior so there is no ping pong and no aggro onto the Ench or Shaman when they use thier better slow & Debuff....
So as a Beast we will usually take MORE hits than the average Monk...Ive had just my Reposte keep aggro for a few secs.....
any guild that would just automatically hand these to a Monk is a clueless guild....

awarding by classism
# Jan 08 2003 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
Couple of things: First, there's a great way to tell whether an item is MEANT for a certain class. Just look at the class restrictions on the item. If your class is listed, it was meant for you. No one can tell anyone else what loot is "correct" for their character. Someone mentioned, for instance, that rangers should look at Onyx Chain legs instead. Well, for myself and as a ranger, HP is all-important. In a raid environment AC is nice, but completely secondary. So, that being said, this item is vastly superior IMHO.

Second, in response to the analysis that monks should get this item because you can't pull without them...well, bear in mind that I am saying this as a representative of a nearly useless raid class, but monks are not CRITICAL to raid success...we often pull with a shadowknight. I'm not saying you monks aren't useful, but don't go getting all uppity and pretending that you should be given special consideration because the world revolves around you. ;)
RE: awarding by classism
# Mar 05 2003 at 10:59 AM Rating: Decent
Aha Ha LOL....Ive never seen such complete drivel all the way down this entire page of post..cept for a couple..

#1...Monks need to get over yourselves...SKs pull just fine...and the EQ world of Norranth does NOT revolve around you...last time i was in TOV we didnt have a monk and did just fine, actually our Ranger pulled he he..

#2, The ignorant mistake most Monks think is that AC is going to save thier AVOIDANCE class *******
sorry monkeyboyE even with 1400AC your going to get hammered harder than a Warrior with 1000AC...Monks and Beast are NOT a Plate class, and we do NOT mitigate damage on the same scale at all....we AVOID damage....Monk much better off with 1100AC and 265+AGI than 1300+AC and 100AGI, sam ewith Beast...

#3...whom "deserves" this item?....anyone that showed up to raid, and whos class is listed.and doesnt have better atm.....and im sure for one thing Clerics and Dr00ds and probably Shaman would all pass anyway, this isnt all that great for them...its also quite likely that the Warrior would already have better...

Usually in our Guild this would go to the highest lvl player whom needs it the most, and occaisionally certain items where chars with same lvl and need would /random for it.....which there is nothing wrong with that, and only fair way to do it period....any guild that just automatically hands this to a Monk are just ignorant...
and just slapping the other classes in the face that are there doing thier job and JUST as needed as the Monk....
we have a Point/need/lvl system that works just fine, and all being equal tie gets /randomed...
Rolling on this item?

Hmmm. There are some reasonably high level guilds that divide loot by random rolling, but guilds that use this method don't tend to power up very quickly, because gear ends up going to people who can't make optimal use of it. A guild that relied on random rolls for everything and was formed the day that EQ was first released might only now be getting to the point that they could acquire this item. Random rolls also tend to anger people quite a bit when someone who really shouldn't have gotten a certain item just gets lucky. This makes it hard for such a guild to keep members. The only reason my guild would random roll for such an item would be if the officers in charge of loot could not decide which of a small number of guild members (2 or 3 for example) would be best to give the item to. Random rolling for loot rarely lasts very long once a guild goes planar.

The most likely choice for who gets this item the very first time a guild comes across it is a monk, for reasons which others have already made abundantly clear (some in a rather aggressive manner). As the guild gets more and more of these, other classes will certainly get them as well. Typically though, by the time less ideal classes would get their turn at this item, they will have already gotten a comparable (or better)item somewhere else. I see this happen quite often. When an item is out of reach, everyone that can use it wants it. By the time a guild is able to actually get it, most of the ones that used to want it have gotten something better or are close to getting something better. They might actually turn up their nose at the item they used to drool over. I actually used to want Velious quest gear, until I got better. To this date, I have never had a single piece of Velious quest gear and now I don't want any.

If perchance the guild that gets this item uses a DKP system, then the odds of someone besides a monk getting it the first time it drops are higher, but if I had to bet money on who would get it, I would still say that a monk was most probable because he would have the most motivation and because monks tend to build up more points than other classes because there is so little for them to spend points on. How's that for a run-on sentence?

It is not a law of nature that "monk items" always go to monks. Unless it explicity says that only monks can use it, there is always a chance that it will go elsewhere. If it does go elsewhere, then it's no big deal. If your guild can get this item once, then they can get it two times or three or four or however many times they want to. Your turn will come.

Even if this item were the ultimate "monk item" and my guild instead awarded it to a druid, for example, I would certainly not leave my guild as I rather like being in OSW. Leaving a guild over a bad loot decision is a mistake, unless your guild has a serious, chronic problem with making such decisions. If you do leave your guild over a loot decision, you will probably not be missed. I think some people are just fond of using the expression, "I'd leave my guild if item X got awarded to class Y!", even if they really wouldn't do such a thing.

If you are in a guild capable of getting this item, they almost certainly have a very effective way of determining who will get it. Your opinion about who should get this item in such a circumstance probably doesn't mean diddly-squat unless you are one of the people in charge of loot allocation. So basically, arguing over whether this is a monk item or a ranger item or whatever is a complete and utter waste of time.

I think that most of us would instead like to see information about how to get this item, strategies for killing the monster that drops it, getting to the monster that drops it, etc. Also, if an item has a specific use, it would be interesting to know any little "tricks" that can be done with the item to make an individual or a group or a raid more effective.

If you are not even close to being able to get this quality of item, you really shouldn't be ranting about who should or should not get it. Most of the rants I see about level 60 equipment are made by people below level 40. What do they know about high level loot allocation? Odds are that there are facets of the game at the level required to get this item that most people are not aware of yet. The person whose opinion you criticize may know a heck of a lot more about this item and who should wear it than you do. I don't post about Vex Thal loot because my guild is not quite up to that level of the game yet. I feel comfortable posting about this because my guild has been after North ToV loot for quite a while now. I'm even wearing some at the moment.

Argfeld while your argument there is indeed well spoken I disagree whole heartedly with your opinions about loot distribution, and point systems.

I used to be in a DKP-oriented "capable" guild, and lived through the very painful demise of that guild. Sure it's still around, in name, but there's perhaps 5 people left in that guild who just won't let go... (hard to do when someone has given you leadership to what once was a great thing). After DKP that guild became littered with greed. Raid times where scheduled within a 3 hour window to benefit leadership only, who being in Japan or the Pacific region of the world, meant for the majority of the Eastern North Americas and Europe... was while we were asleep. Members living in these areas lost sleep just to "get points"... something that lost it's appeal pretty quickly. Members who could raid regularly during these times raked in far more points than those who did not, and as a result whenever an item like this dropped... it was very likely that a Ranger or even a Cleric was in a position to outbid the Monk, even if it wasn't much of an upgrade or possibly just a part-time fashion trophy... and most times this is EXACTLY what happened, all the time.

I've since joined some old friends in a guild just as if not more capable that that one... and although suggestions to go Point System Oriented comes up... the majority know of it's folley and we're dead set against it. It will just never happen... period. Does this fact make us a weaker guild... because we're not DKP? Hell no... in fact 120 members and growing strong with almost zero membership turnover... one of the oldest guilds on Xegony is proud to still be DKP free and raiding some of the higher tier areas of the game.

People are going to argue about loot... DKP or not. It's just something that happens in this game, and no system is going to control the fact that some things are just too damned rare (rare drops off rare spawns with rare availabilty). There's some sort of bizarre "panic mode" that players will go into when something like these legs drop... everyone who can use them, wants them for whatever reason, and gets paniced thinking they are the only ones that will ever drop in their game career. This of course is untrue.

While indeed the weight and stats appear to obviously benefit a Monk very well, it can be argued as well that the AC and 50 HPs gained from this item would benefit any class listed as eligible for them, and for Plate wearing classes, the zero weight factor makes up for the multitude of 15-25 weight items designated for these classes that Everquest is littered with.

I myself play a Cleric, and while my class is listed I wouldn't roll on them... no mana, no wisdom, nothing that helps my manapool and heck even Thurg legs help me more in that area. But with AC caps increased and mobs hitting melees for insane amounts of damage, I'd say this would benefit a Warrior (specifically an MT) who hasn't reached his extended AC cap or would like to free another AC slot for another item benefitting other stats extremely well.

In a nutshell I too am of the opinion that if an item lists certain class types, then it's "intended" for those classes to use should they desire. Unless it says "monk only"... who gave anyone the right to determine who is allowed to have it?

Im rolling on the floor, laughing out loud at you right now.
You dont SERIOUSLY think an uber guild who is able to get to Ntov would EVER roll on ANY item as uber as this? ToV should be a *ReStRiCtEd ArEa*
You dont get acess if you're a n00b.

Every "uber" guild has a way to distribute the loot. the /random way is not one of them.

The most common ones is the point system, wich allows players to bid on the loot they want, with the points they have earned from attending on raids in the past.
The other one is officer loot allocation, wich means that the officers in the respective guild decides who will get the loot.
I know both ways work very well :)

I've killed this **** myself, along with the rest of the dragons in Ntov so I shout have a clue of what Im talking about.

Personally, I would quit a guild who rolled for this item, or any other high end item.....

Reason why this goes to any monks that need it first is simple. they make your HoT ToV raids possable. they pull the mobs to you and they need Ac HP to survive long enough to get to camp so tank can Tag. If you have poorly equiped your Guilds monk he will die on pulling quite often. then those who are flameing the monks above will be complaining about the down time or the wipe because someone other than the monk pulled while he was getting a res. FD is a god send but it pales in comparison with AC HP. And lastly In most cases monks get crap gear as far as AC ect. can they survive with out it? sure. but by the time a guild is able to do this mob the monk has put in hundred of hours pulling other planes and mobs for every single other class. So please show some respect to monks stop flameing them. there are good and bad monks but most try real hard to lead raids for their guild and they deserve loot like this 1st if they need.

Monks doing HoT most likely wont have this piece of gear since it drops in NToV, seconds in HoT you dont always need to pull to entrance, HoT has fairly well spaced mobs where sometimes you can just shoot an arrow at them. and the AC wont save a monk, its getting his *** non-AE'ed

If you could, who would play any other classes? If you want to wear nice gear and have sweet AC be a warrior, but then you won't be able to whomp so much mob booty. Every class has it's downfalls. Monk by Default.

Why do Monks always say they should get good light weight armor?

1) THEY PULL - lets see a warrior try to pull without a cleric on /autofollow. Hail, wipe.

2) Monk armor is GARBAGE - Golden Star Chest Wraps - 23ac | Warlords BP - 59ac drop off the same mobs, over DOUBLE, that's fair.

3) These legs are 1ac, 5sta 50hp more than Warlords. Go tank a mob that hits for 1000, and you tell me if 1ac 5sta 50hp is going to do jack squat?

This item should go to the class who will benefit from them the most. Which is monks, everyone else gets far better equipment. Another curse of the "Vision".
The second best legs for monks, are 25ac. 2 weight.

Warriors, when a Monk gets this. Press your I button, and look at your 45 AC legs you got from farming West ToV mobs (Monk's Kael legs 11ac goodgame.), and your 59AC BP. Then say Grats Monk. Thanks.
RE: Duh.
# Jun 17 2002 at 4:00 PM Rating: Default
They go to monks because other classes can use things that are equal or better and easier to get. Sky Shrine quest armour will be FAR batter than this even for chain classes. No one will want this except a druid, beastie or a monk, and it's unlikely a druid or beastie would have the lack of consideration to try for this over a monk.

RE: Duh.
# Apr 08 2002 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
Saying that these legs should always default to a monk is not quite right. While I agree that droped items should go to who can use them to most to best benefit the guild that is farming it, keep in mind that these are the best leggings for a number of classes. Rangers for example, will draw more aggro during a fight than a monk, so why not give them the best leggings for them in the game? (These are the highest AC leggings for a ranger). Rogues take a lot of hits in combat as well. In the end, it doesn't really matter what your class is, what does matter is what you are wearing when these drop and how much of an upgrade it is for you. If all the monks are so far behind the other classes in AC droped gear, then they will more than likely get them first, but it really depends. Rangers going into NToV with thurg leggings on isn't uncommon, this is nearly twice the AC as the thurg ranger legs, why not give it to a ranger, or rogue? My point, monks, STFU.

Ok, I think you need to realize something. Every class in the game has its ups and downs. ex. rogues fast and deal a lot of damage=low hps and somewhat low AC. ex Warriors tank, Most hps in the game, Highest AC in the game, down side, they really dont deal a whole heck of a lot of damage at higher lvls compared to some classes. ex Monks, BIGGEST damage dealers in the game, Decent hps, low armor class. Id say its pretty well balanced out. If monks got higher AC items, that equal what a warrior gets, then the game would be entirely made up of Monks and a couple shammies and clerics. Plz for everyone elses sake, stop crying, and play the class that you have chosen, if you want higher ac, be a warrior, but dont expect to do as much damage as your monk.

P.S. Monks pull with FD to break camps, once the mob is back to the group, guess who generally tanks it? YOU got it!! The warrior. laters

Rogues can get 1500-1600 AC buffed, well over 5khp's buffed.

These go to monks because we need AC, why?

Because if we don't have the AC/HP's to get the mob to tank no wants gonna be fighting anything.

just a question....but since when are monks supposed to be tanking?

learn to control your aggro and stop complaining fool. goes to whoever the guild decides it goes to. therefor, who it SHOULD go to is just an opinion, but who the hell cares?

and besides...if your getting aggro from a mob that hits around 1k, a monk wouldnt last more than a few shots even if he had 5 war's ac combined

I'd leave my guild because it would be full of goobers.

These are the highest AC greaves there are at 46 and they also have to most combination of ac and hp since they are 50 hp and 10 sta also.

No one should ever get these legs for those reasons but a warrior until every warrior in the guild who is ever the main tank on big mobs has them, EVER. That is what is best for your guild.

I'd give these to a monk when its the main tank on a dragon and the CH chain is casting on a monk.

The very stats on these legs instantly rule out a few classes: Cleric, Druid and Shaman. They have no need for these legs as they are missing more vital components such as +mana +wis or +resists, ac is nice, but not that important to a Priest to give them this item.

Below is a list taken right from Allakhazam of the Leggings available to all classes, sorted by AC (no limiting factor):

If you look at all the other classes who can use this (excluding the priests) they all have a viable alternative to the Acient Wurm Hide Greaves. If your at the level to be arguing over who to give this item to, then you should also be capable of getting the equivalent item for other classes.

These greaves give 21 more ac than the next best bit of equipment a monk could have, second inline is the Rogue or the Ranger where the biggest difference (excluding the Onyx Chain Leggings) is 14.

There are very few good AC greaves for a monk, and these are perfectly suited - they have all the vital stats except for resists, 0 weight, 50hp, 10sta and 46ac - not to mention they are tiny so they could fit in the small bags monks are forced to carry should they wish to swap them out.

It looks pretty obvious that when Verant made these legs they have a class in mind, the monk. The facts show that these leggings are made best use of by a monk.

I personally play a druid and have never played a monk but if it was for me to decide then these would go to any monks in the guild.

Serberus, just looking at the ac of the said items shows how little you know. when guilds kill mobs like this, ac is not a great concern to anyone. hps/sta and resists are.
besides that, it is nice for a monk to have high ac, but not necissary. a monk that draws to much aggro on him, is a dead monk anyways )

Serberus, you have NO idea how to play a Shaman, for one. Read the Shaman's Crucible. The vast majority of Shaman who have thought about gear, fought over gear, discussed gear with each other, have come to the conclusion that

hp regen > hp/STA > AC > mana > WIS

Where resists fall into this scheme is very complex, but those items have a very clear hierarchy. Why? Because it's not the SIZE of your mana pool that counts, but how fast you can REFILL it. With Cannibalization, HP == MANA. Given a higher AC, you'll keep more HP and therefore have more mana.

For a level 60+ Shaman with Torpor and possibly the Cann 5 AA skill, mana is just Not An Issue. One Cann 5 and your mana bar is full. A couple of 250 mana Torpors later and your health bars is full, too. WIS becomes simply irrelevant.

So yeah, these legs are pretty awesome for Shaman and using my guild's modified DKP system I would happily roll against monks for them. It's cases like this that point systems were made for, so folks who have never played a class can't dictate which loot items that class gets.

your wrong that casters have no need for this the ac is great for leggings and shamans are not known to have much ac on their gear and after they hit 190 wis its kinda pointless to addd wis things because the epic adds 20 wis so your using about 210 wis and they can resist buff themselfs so its kinda useless to have alot of resist gear so if you think these arent usefull to a caster then id have to /bonk you

These would be very useful for a caster, i'd personally love a pair of these and would be willing to give up any +wis +mana or +resist items I had in my leg slot for such amazing AC and weight.

My point was if you were trying to reward these to a member of the group or guild then its unlikely that a druid, shaman or cleric would (or imo should) get these simply because it would be of better use on a melee at the very least, and as I pointed out previously, a monk.

I'm sure all the priest classes wouldn't be too happy if a monk got an item that had +20 wis +100 mana simply because it has 50ac or some good resists.

Ohh, good to **** in after winning the roll.

And yes, to clarify... these could very well drop in a situation where there would be a few players deemed worthy of the item (guild head monk, shm, rog, etc). In that case, I expect the guildleader would roll between these.

If you want to default em, go for it, but I am still entitled to my lame little joke =)

I am in a guild where this has dropped. Only monks are able to random this and its randomed through alpha. Even if your ac is maxed as a monk the hp on this item is gives it that extra boost. As a monk at high levels hp and resist are more important. As for me, i rarely take dmg from melee over the warriors. The real concern is the AE's. Monks hp are low and they are inclose combat. Monks also have very few high resist gears so the hp is great for monks.

Monks

Yes, monks will get this over any of the other classes listed.

I'm not saying they arn't great leggings for other classes, it is just they are a far better upgrade than any other class.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 14 2001 at 5:16 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well, since monks can feign death they hardly die anyway. Ya all should stop shoutin IT'S A MONK ITEM every time you see something you can use. You'll get armor when ya do anyway, posting that it's a monk item over and over again doesn't help you to get it.
Yummy!!!

I am not saying this is only a monk item, but wow! And again I say WOW!!! Wouldn't I love to have it! Of course, I will probably never see this item drop, much less get a shot at owning one, but I can dream!

ToV stuff ROCKS!!!

this is godlike for monks, as this has an upgrade of 31 raw ac from the next best AC greaves (oiled), but think about it, at lvl 55, a good monk would already have max ac, hell, my monk has 800 something ac and he is lvl 40 (pretty much decked). But still, it doesn't matter that monks would be maxxed out; if u read carefully, this does have other classes labled as being able to wear it other than monk. Now can someone here honestly say ud not give this to a warrior? hell, these are almost the best leggings in the game for every class that can wear them, I mean, wow, just look at em. But everyone seems to forget that lvl 60 druids, shaman, some monks and rogues would not have max ac...so be honest and tell me, monk only? or should everyone who needs it get a chance to wear these bad boys?
Hmm
