Easter Egg connection to Micky Mouse as the Sorcerer's apprentice?

Anyways,

Need modern item window pic of this item.

Need a pic of someone wielding this item.

No focus effect message?
# Sep 07 2004 at 4:13 PM Rating: Decent
I've got this and the shovel, and I've never gotten a focus effect message when casting a pet with the broom or shovel equipped, so I'm not really sure if it's working (broken?) or not. Also compared the size of my level 34 "focused" earth pet to another mage in the zone (level 35) and noticed no size difference between the two.

Anyone have any confirmation that this quest is working? and is anyone else not getting the focus effect message? and yeah, i made sure it's turned on in filters.
Clearing confusion
# Aug 27 2004 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
I think the reason people are confused is because there is no visible SIZE difference until 34. It still makes the pet better at lower levels (as low as 4th) but you will not see a size difference until 34. Also, I read that it works on pets up to 44th lvl; not 49. What I read may be wrong. 44 may be a standard sort of cutoff. Ex: Mana Efficiency II works on spells up to 44th level.

If you are after Ice, Fire, Hill, and Cyclops toes...Go to Ocean of Tears and kill the named giant Gronit. He drops all of them. Says he is lvl 33-37 but a definite under con (was LB to a lvl 53 druid). I have read that he is camped alot but has a spawn rate of just under a minute. His location is on the same island as the Seafury Cyclops' near the pirate camps. Hope this helps!!

RE: Toes for everyone!

Lol ..... Gornit is on a 6 min timer not 1 min or less;) Fire and ice toes drop around 1 in 8 to 10 kills. Hill Giant toes are the most common drop;) Much easier to camp this cat than try for the cut-throat in Rathe mt. Oh and they have nerfed his plat drop as well. He no longer drops the huge plats he used too. Kinda seems to run in a cycle. He will drop 20 plus pp a few times , then less that 4pp for several then wash rinse and repeat;)

What to do:
Talk to Vira (Gnome p415,p90, per EQATLAS near #7) in Temple of Solusek Ro to get the info on 4 items she needs for each quest you are doing for each of the 4 Mage pet focus items.

Hints:
None of the items are no-drop, so the best thing to do is hit the vendors in the surrounding areas first or auction in the zone. Go to OOT and check vendors for toes, if none there try Everfrost, and then try Nejena (go to the floor where you get the 3rd key and kill those mages) then buy needed gem and go to back to Vira.

The main items broom, torch, stien & shovel drop from mobs called 'An Alligator' the Swamp Alligators do not drop them.
------------------------------------------------
Shovel of Ponz (increases size and power of Earth Elementals above level 34) requires:

A Shovel-Magician (9-24) in Najena or "An Alligator" (18-34) in Cazic Thule or Feerrott.
Eye of Gargoyle-Mistmoore (level 22-36) or Gargoyles in OOT (level 18-20).
Toes of a Hill Giant--in EK, NK, or WK, Rathe Mountains, WC (level 33-37), or Gornit in OOT.
A Ruby-from vendor.
------------------------------------------------
Torch of Alna (increases size and power of Fire Elementals above level 34) requires:

Fire Drake Scale-Fire drake (level 9-11) in Lavastorm Mountains.
Fire Giant Toes-Fire Giants are in SolB (level 47-51) or Gornit in OOT.
Torch-Magicians (level 9-24) in Najena and Alligators (level 18-34) in Feerrott.
Fire Emerald-from vendor.
------------------------------------------------
Broom of Trilon (increases size and power of a summoned Air Elementals above level 34) requires:

Griffen Feather-most any griffens near Karanas or vendors in Rathe, NK, and probably Jaggedpine.
Cyclops Toes-SeaFuries in OOT (level 39-42) and Cyclops in SK, RM, WK (level 28 - 42) or Gornit in OOT.
Broom-Magicians (level 9-24) in Najena and Alligators (level 18-34) in Feerrott.
Star Ruby-from vendor.
------------------------------------------------
Stien of Ulissa (increases size and power of a summoned Water Elementals above level 34) requires:

Mermaid scale-Sirens on the spires in OOT
Ice Giant Toes-Ice Giants in Everfrost Peaks or from Gornit.
Stien-Magicians in Najena and Alligators in Feerrott, Magicians (level 9 -24) and Alligators (level 18-34).
Sapphire-from vendor.

Some of Agonizer's infomation here is helpful, but some is outdated.

Cazic Thule has been upgraded to a high level zone. Go to Najena to get the "A Broom", "A Shovel", "A Torch" and "A Stein". They drop from "A Magician" and "A Goblin Magician".

Don't worry if you don't have keys to unlock doors in Najena. You really don't need to.
Someone posted they got one of the items from one of the skeletons in Najena. My opinion is that they're a much more common drop from the magicians. Of course the skellies will attack you anyway, so do check their corpses.

While killing the magicians in Najena, you'll most likely see some of the torn pages of mastery. Keep them as they're for the epic.

Good luck, young magicians!
question

I bought the broom from a guy for 40 PP. At the time I was a lev 16 Mag and wanted to improve the stupid inconsistancy of my pet casting. For the first few casts i believed it to be an utter success, my pets seemed all to be high con's but after a certain amount of time my pets seemed to average out in level. In addition to this the posting for this item shows A broom (ID broom of air). This is what my broom shows and ID's as, yet the picture says Broom of Trilon and shows a certain stat increase and dmg etc. but mine has none of that just says "A broom". I would appreciate and info on this problem. Thanx

Yes, the effect will work and the pets will be bigger and better compared to the ones you get if you don't equip the item when summoning.
RE: lvl
# Aug 17 2001 at 10:41 PM Rating: Default
Nope, has to be 34 for the pets to be more powerful. I had this item since about level 16 due to some higher lvl friends of mine helping me out. Doesn't make pets more powerful until 34, and once it does, you will definately see an increase in the size of the pet. Size does matter :)

Sorry, but you are most definately incorrect. Being that I am just running through the low 20's again as a new mage on Sullon Zek I can most definately assure you that the focus item makes a big difference over equal conned max pets at each level prior to 25 (well from 16 castings to the 24 castings) (I'm only 26 now) My guildy who is the same level as me just about has pets that lay waste to mine due to his focus items. His focus'ed 16 pets are as big as my 20 pets and so on, they hit harder then the highest max con 16 pet (non focused it 16, focused was 18 for white con pets to a level 17 rogue). They also have more HP and better agility to stand up to high con mobs much much much better (yellow/low red cons). My unfocused pet had no chance of solo-ing a white conscript in OT at 17, whereas his pet owned any level 17 conscript we came across.

Focus matters, until after 49 of course.

At 34 no matter what lvl pet spell you summon the pet will be stronger. As in you HAVE to be 34 for the effect to work though any lvl pet spell will be effected by it

"As in you HAVE to be 34 for the effect to work though any lvl pet spell will be effected by it"

That's not true. The effect will work at ANY level. My mage had the item since level 9, and it made a HUGE difference.

It will work at level 34 TOO, yes. But it will also work at lower levels. It will work on the pets up to and including the level 49 pets.

Refer to my post further down for more info.

Apparently I was off a bit, they do have higher stats and hit harder. The do not have more HP though, focus items don't affect pet HP. Also, i've summoned various pets of various levels and sometimes one pet I summon will get waxed by MoB's, while the next one will own them, even with the same con.

It does effect HP - but I don't really think the effects are "as good" until you get to level 34. But yes, I do notice a big difference in my pets casted with my focus items at level 32.

My level 9 mage could reclaim energy too...

Quoting magecompendium.com on these focus items:

Note: Focus Items only have to be held while summoning an elemental to be effective, there is no minimum player level for these items to be used.

Focus Items will only function on summons from level 4 to 49, Staffs of Elemental Mastery will function on summons from level 49 to 60 (Not including the Decoy summons). The four focus objects available from the Temple of Solusek Ro enhance particular attributes of a pet. Because each pet has inherent natural attributes, each focus object works differently on each pet type.

Earth Elementals : Shovel of Ponz
These pets have the most hit points of any pet. Because of this the focus objects do not add any extra hit points to the pets. Rather the pets get extra strength, agility and other stats to help them dodge a little better and hit for higher damages.

Water Elementals : Stein of Ulissa
A Water Elemental summoned with a focus object obtains the same number of hit points as an earth elemental of the same level summoned with no focus object. They also receive boosted stats.

Air Elemental : Broom of Trilon
An Air Elemental summoned with a focus object gets a hit point bonus making it have approximately the same hit points as a water elemental summoned without a focus object of the same level. They receive less statistical bonus than the water elemental.

Fire Elementals : Torch of Alna
A Fire Elemental summoned with a focus object gets a hit point bonus making it have approximately the same hit points as a air elemental summoned without a focus object of the same level. They receive around the same statistical bonuses as the air elemental.

In summary each elemental becomes more powerful than the one before it when you use the focus objects. Some receive more hit points than others. Some receive more statistics than others. Simply put a pet summoned with the focus object will be better than a pet summoned without one, and it is certainly worth doing the quests to obtain the items. Mage Focus Items must also be held during summoning in order to be effective.

A few corrections about this item:
On the site it says the level for the effect is 29, but I did some work with other characters to get the pieces for this, and completed the quest at level 12 with my Magician, and I was able to use the Reclaim Energy spell on it. The level for the effect MAY be level 1, since that's the level of the spell, but I'm not exactly sure about that.
Another correction:
This broom can NOT be held in either hand, I got it, and #1 melee is the only slot it can be in, just wanted to clear that up, I'm sort of picky I guess :P
