Picked one of these up on Tarew Marr in Bazaar for 18k. The guy OOCed it one time and I never hesitated, sent him a tell and snapped it up. Threw it on my vendor for 98k and sold it within two hours. Just my little Velks Spellbook story. I can't really use it cos I have a Zheart on primary, but can use all that extra plat lying about. Now, lets see about that Jewelcraft mastery...
What the market can bear...

I don't understand these posts that cry about selling these books for 75k and whatnot. Do you guys have any understanding of rudimentary economics? Obviously, if they are priced that high, someone is willing to pay that much. In fact, in all truth, the seller has virtually no control of the price of the item. If he knows that the buying power of the market is willing to pay 75k, then it isn't greed that is making him price out at that level, it's common sense. Don't hate because you can't afford.

I wouldnt have put it quite like that but yea coming from somone that is prolly gonna be able to buy this book long before i could raid for it by all means sell for what people are buying at. But hey to the guy that was complaing about the high price please by all means farm it and sell it for 12k in the baz i only need this and the one from the spid and the quest is done for me :D

I've been watching the price on this book in the Bazaar for a while. the price had been about 8-10k on Maelin Starpyre. After the Robe Quest came out, I found the book selling for 75k in the bazaar.

The economy on Maelin Starpyre is a little whacked to begin with, but this is totally outrageous. There are 6 books to collect for this quest, and if each book is selling for that amount, it makes the robe totally out of reach for most people. (taking the bazaar route vs going out and actually getting the books from the corresponding mobs).

I have a trader in the bazaar and I try to make a decent profit off the items I sell, but I never gouge people. Some people are just plain greedy assh*les.

This book should not sell for more than 12k at the very most. Don't allow the greedy SOBs ruin the EQ economy by way overcharging for items. Sure the Grand Robe of the Oracle is nice, but there are other things to do with that much cash if you have it.

Yes you are right because 100 mana items sell for 12k all the time. As part of the robe quest every piece has gone up substantially, it's jsut the way it is. Considering its a ft4 robe that is essentially buyable its a miracle each book isn't 200k.

When you consider that the FT 4 gloves (the droppable pair) sell for 400k+ on my server, when they are available, 75k for one of the harder to get books seems pretty reasonable.

RE: price shot up
# Nov 10 2003 at 7:52 PM Rating: Decent
sad part is you need about 10 different books for this quest and all seem to be selling in the tens of thousand to hundreds of thousand plat range over all the robe is worth about 200k but yet it will cost you about 600k to make the stupid thing if you bought all the books for what people are asking.

I don't know how you can say the Tome is better than this (for an INT caster that is). Tome has the same Int, but just +7 to all resists (which is 35 resistance points compared to this which adds a total of 50!) This also adds 100 mana(to the tomes +40) and also has CHA which is important to Enchanters.

I think all those reasons are why on Veeshan the tome goes for 5kish and this goes 8-10k. For a WIS caster obviously the Tome is better.

Oh, and this has STA which becomes important for EVERY class at the higher levels.

Int vs Mana
# Apr 17 2003 at 4:25 AM Rating: Decent
This is an incredibly nice primary slot item. I am 53 and my int is far from being capped at 255 though. I quit trying to hit 255 int and went for items with tons of mana on it instead like the Loam Encrusted Robe, etc. Despite missing a few slots now (working on alot of upgrades atm) I still break 3k mana pool with kei. My advice, get int to 230 or so and start working on items with mana on them instead of int. Kei will cap you at 255, and all that mana gear will make a huge difference in yer mana pool. Saves are also very important in pvp or raiding, but I went the route of seperate save gear cause I'm on a blue server.

Question - I've heard that each point of int = 1 point of mana after 200, and also 6 points, which is correct now? April 17, 2003, LoY era.

ummm hmmm gotta disagree i had int capped in low 30's now its gotta be well over 300 (too lazy to do the math to find out how far over it is.)

He was making an idle comment, and he has a point. that said:

At level 62 I carry in my hands 2 ruby encrusted stiens. Each gives 10 vs all saves, 20 mana and 5 cha. I dont really need Int so much at this level as I really need the resists on a PVP server. This is going to be a nice little upgrade for int and mana though and I think I will go get one this week.

I just got this item, and it works well for me. Rieli has a point,as I look at alot of items, seems that good old stine of Mo is holding that Int title. Like to see something beat it out for a change.

Also:

It just doesn't seem right that an item dropped off a level 66 mob doesn't have as much intelligence on it as a Stein of Moggok that level 12+ enchanters can quest for easily.

This comment is true.

This comment is not.

This comment above covers the lower comment.

when u are high enuf to raid this u should have int maxed and 2 int should not matter at all

To put it in perspective, over 200 int, 1 extra int point = 6 more mana. 100/6 = a little over 16 and a half. So using this would be equivilent to 24 int and change in your primary slot. not bad eh?

Well, wizard epic Staff of the Four and this book make possibly the best mana / int / resist / stamina combo there are for wizards... that is IF this could go in the offhand. Unfortunately... it can not.

Lets see...
200 mana
33 int
5 cha
10 str
15 sta
between 10 and 30 to all resists...

The only thing lacking is AC. But truely good wizards don't take too many hits to begin with.

If anyone sells this book, they should be ********** unless they are in an uber uber guild and working to make some cash for the guild bank. Someone that gets this book is most likely in a guild that can take Velk down, and doensn't have their epic yet. Only time you should ever get rid of it is when you get your epic, and then it should be rerandomed in guild to someone that needs. Someone selling this book for greed is just wrong.

I would actually prefer this to my own epic, for the simple reason that it's a hell of a lot easier to get. For the effort required, the Spell Book is a lot more desireable.
Yeah, the mage epic sucks.

Maverness = lvl 60 mage with epic.
I got my earth staff off of Inny(3rd one on VZ), AND my pegasus cloak off of Quillmane before they made it far easier to camp( no thanks to the damn druids who LOVE to KS that mob). I put over 200+ hours into the mage epic and know exactly how hard it is to do.

I stated that I suspected that the firepower needed by a guild to kill Velk was also enough to get most of their casters their epics. And unless mages constitute the majority of int casters in a guild like that, I believe that my previous statement is agreeable.

If you had the vaguest clue how hard it was to get the magician epic... you wouldn't make such moronic statements. 9 outta 10 times someone that says 'you should already have your epic' is some stupid monk/ranger/rogue that spent 35 hours runnin round and got their epic. Magician epic *MINIMUM* is 100 hours.. lets not forget a trip to 7th isle of sky.. a rare off phinny (everyone else gets their epic piece off him long b4 a magician in a given guild).. 3-15 trips to COM for rak'ashir (woot lotta shields tho)and managing to kill magi p'tasa while he actually has the staff of mastery earth.. o wait and ya that ever painful trade in.. the pegasus feather cloak..

i'm a lvl 60 magician in THE KIND gear.. and so far only have the cloak and staff of mastery earth.. 200 int +580 mana and 1729 hps fire/magic/cold over 100.. please don't presume 'twink material' till you have a clue =)

I, a lvl 55 mage, recieved this last night. Yes most of the casters in the raid did have their epics, but at least 2 of us didn't. Since it was droppable it was decided (after much discussion, and a gesture of good will) that I would use this Item till I got my epic, and then would hand it off to the next Caster Main in the guild/alliance who had not achieved their epic. This really should not be sold unless by the guild that got it, nor should it be handed to a twink(though it is tempting)

Since at that level you would most likely have something like your epic in your primay slot. Take it to EC and sell it for 25K. From what i can tell this is an unlikely item to be used by anyone that is high enough to obtain it.

If you sold this for 25k you're not too bright. Ornate rune shield is worth more than 25k (at least on tunare) and the stats don't even come close. Not to mention how hard it is to get this.

Also, I think (could be wrong here) that all epics can be used in either hand. I know mine can (enchanter).

ok, any moron who thinks 8int and 100 mana is equal to 18int, you oughta be smacked on the head with a tackhammer cuz u r a ******. any int OVER 200 (which any 40ish caster should have) is only 6 mana, which means, that 100mana alone is equal to roughly 15 int in itself. AND anyone who thinks this is crap to most epics, you r wrong, have a look at alot of those epics out there, there is even some SoL drops that are better than epics. and lastly, i would kill to get ahold of one of these, the stats are AMAZING, and anyone who says otherwise is entirely stupid. as for having an epic before u can possably get this, you twinks that get carried through an epic, should not even be allowed to post on this. i have been working on epic for 120 hours now, and am only about half way through it, if that. get your facts straight before u post your BS.

Look at the date on his post before you call him a moron. pre SoL. That means int capped at 200. That means 8 int and 100 mana is equal to 18 int. SoL items better? yes. Once again, this is pre SoL. Thank you for a beautiful demonstration on moronic posting.

Think 120 hours is something for an epic, try 22 fear raids, 5 chardok raids, 17 hate raids and 12 air raids and still counting. Add that all up, 56 raids averaging 3 hours (VERY conservatively) and what am I at?

Last time I did a shammy epic it took us maybe 30 hours TOPS. Some are just easier than others.

As Homer Simpson once said. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your moron.
Not bad
# Jun 30 2001 at 3:47 PM Rating: Good
This isn't a bad item. Too bad its primary only. Cause if a guild is going to kill Velk, then most of their casters are probably going to have epics( which is much better for that slot). This would be a perfect item for the secondary slot though.

Yeah, the INT on this could be a point or 2 higher and an effect would be nice, but if you consider the Enchanters reliance on Cha for Mez spells, this could be a nice dual stat increasing item for them.

Aye, it is true that Enchanters would benefit from the charisma on this. However, if it's charisma that an enchanter needs, there are far more hand items that they can get with more than 5 cha. This is a nice piece for any of the classes.

I am inclined to agree with you on this one Anonymous. It has been stated before that Warriors and the other melee classes get haste items that make them cleave faster, but the caster gets nothing quite like that. I for one would like to see something like that, and this item would have been prime for it. Can you imgaine a book that might cut casting time in half? A book that drops off an impossible MoB makes it all the better. :-)

But casters rejoice! I read last night that on the Shadows of Luclin update Verant is going to implement such a thing. This oughtta make for some *very* sought out items. As I am noticing that this thing is bloody near impossible to get and it is not NO DROP, perhaps Verant will include some effects like that on it. We can only hope...

There are flowing thought items out there, which is somewhat like a "clarity robe", which give one tick per rank in flowing thought (1-4) unfortunately the effect on the 1-3 is negligible at best, and the 4 is still only minimal, though considerably better it only comes off of the most hideous uber mobs you could imagine, cloak of flames, still the best haste item in the game on the other hand drops off of a mob that dies the day he spawns, thus dumping a good amount into the game, and making them comparably easy to get. People do occasionally sell COFs, but you'll never see anyone selling an FT4 item (most are no drop anyhow)

Verant has said that of the numerous expansions in Luclin that will give room for continuation for higher level players, one of the things you will be able to do is shave a percentage off of your casting time. Very much so looking forward to that. Grouping will take on a whole new matter: "55 cleric with 7 second CH LFG!"

To comment on the item itself, look at it's saves, and look at the mana, don't look at the int. I still see late game wizards carrying around their cone of mystics, this is an insane upgrade to that, with the incredible saves too. The charisma on it makes it all the more enchanter appealing as well. Altogether great item which may be slightly underpowered for the mob it drops off of but compared to some of the drops you see in Western Wastes, and the energy required to acquire... This is still a grand item.

Sorry to throw rain on your parade.

As for the book... The book is O.K. it has some nice resists for the right situtations. Probably not for day to day use, as yes by the time you can get into a raid to kill velketor you will probably have your epic weapon.

Please tell me where you get FT III and FT IV Items...the name of the item that has these effects. I only know of FT I and FT II (which stack).

If they made a FT III and FT IV, then a caster could get one of each item and have a mana regen boost of 10 per tick.
