Once you reach the cap of what CH can heal, you should really begin to focus on AC.

Most people here keep talking about how important HP is for tanks, but most parses shown on the SK boards I frequent have shown that AC is actually more of an important tool in the high end raiding content.

The AC and saves on this are VERY nice compared to what most ShadowKnights can obtain, but might be a little underbalanced for the difficulty of taking down Vulak.

All in all, I'd say a good Enchanter item... as they're always getting hit, but wouldn't be surprised to see a Bard interested in them just as much.

Ok speaking as an SK for life I think I would save my raid points for an arm slot with 15 to 20 stam along with equivilant AC stats and saves, but one that also adds to your hitpoints, and with most of the drops from NToV as well as SSRA you will find 75 or 100 hitpoints on the items. Another thing, I dont know about you but an Item with no hitpoints and only stam isnt an upgrade for me considering with buffs my stam is already maxxed so the bonus to stam from these dont help my total max HP's with raid buffs.

Heh, Im a 65 SK and i can *assure* you that i would love to be sporting this in my arms slot... First off this item does have hps...the 75 hps that 15 sta adds at lvl 65... Second 15 int is an exceptional gain for a sk...then add 15 dex for crit hits/blasts ... you ask me this a sick sk item. Also, for those of you who stated that if a SK has agro it's time to crack me up. In today's high end game, it is not uncommon to see SK's with hp's in the 7-9k range, with AC above 1500. I agree that main tank on a raid is warrior duty, but dont think for one second that if a warrior drops a well equipped SK can't step in and handle business =)

No hitpoints. HP are there to take the damage, so you stay alive between heals. To a SK capable of tanking adds in the Vulak ring, this item would most likely be a downgrade

These have to goto a bard, even tho I can just use my primal for a few and get dex maxed at a raid I need to have my two weapons procing haste at a raid and this would help alot since sometimes primal doesnt proc for a few and then i have to change to my other weapon and wait for it to proc. And even tho my guildes rogue do a good deal of our damage with a bard twisting haste and having a double haste proc they do even more dmg. So with the cha and dex these are bard arms. Also, Kelciferous' Armband of ARTISTRY, hmmm maybe they are ment for a bard.

Arguing over who should get the item or not is pointless.

My vote is the SK. If you're a bard tanking, you're a ******. You're already building agro by buffing just about EVERYONE in the area, why add to it by jumping into the fray? You'd make a wonderful snack for the mob, considering Bards have hps in the same ball-park as Casters.

If I was in some uber-guild that could take Vulak, and the guild leader wanted to give them to the Bard, I would lmao.

Arguing about who should get item's is so stupid sometimes...

But in this case, I would think it would be best for a SK :p

Although all the classes listed would have great uses for this imo.

Meant for a Bard? Excuse me?? Arguably a SK and Bard would make the best use of these, and I'd love them, but I think other classes could make great use of them too.

But if we *do* want to talk best use, I'd argue it would increase my power more than a bard's.

Actually, I would like to see SK BD go first, then enchanter, then wizard, then mage and necro in that order. The only reason being is the AC. However, this thing is the god item for arms for us casters. VERY nice. The dex will help a wizard crit MUCH more, the int, explanitory. Stamina rounds out a wizards prime requisites. I am not saying wizard item, but my... it sure is nice... and if I had the chance, your right, I would roll on it.

This is the best item for AC in the allakhazam database for bard/shadow knight but not by much. Only scenarios I can see them making use of that ac is in PvP or an exp group on weaker mobs, not much of a raid item. In a raid if your SK/Bard takes aggro you should have already been gated/camped/killed. If this dropped and I got excluded because I'm a wizard I wouldn't be very impressed with my guild. Not saying wizards should only get it, but they should be concidered equally. Unless of course your guild takes other things into concideration like attendence and mains which benifits me greatly =) I think this is a funny item but a good one.

not true.. Just because someone gets aggro and they're not the warrior (hi rampages) doesn't mean they're going to die, espically if they're a bard or shadowknight ;O

I forget which server it happened on recently, but all warriors were down on AoW attempt, and a bard tanked AoW from 15 to 0 life~

Youre not tanks. With you epic and haste, youre like buzzsaw dishing out insane dmg but you have no hps therefore youre not tanks. Youre more like rogues that if you agro on uber mobs, youre ****** no matter what because you have no hps. I always thought rangers sucked and were useless but then i saw a lvl 59 ranger with epics and haste outmelee a lvl 60 monk. The dmg you guys dish out is pure insanity but again, you got like 5 hps. So dont complain about AC cause it wont save you.

Level 53 Ranger...... hmmmn

I can get my ac to 1003, and my hps to 3500. Tell me again, please, that that is not as good as plenty of other tanks?

True, this is with very...... GOOD armour. My first character got GM Twinked.... won about 40kpp of stuff in a GM event, including Cobalt Boots, which at that time sold for 20kpp. Right now, the highest ac piece my ranger has, and has had since level 22 when he got those boots, is a treeweave, chestslot, 25 ac. Many warriors I know have better.

The ac thing about being a ranger is that we get a few very specific things to help us, and in HP as well. Call of Earth, level 50 spell, adds a 4 point DS, and 24 ac. Spikecoat, I believe, adds 26 ac and 4 point DS. Strength of Nature adds 75hp, and some amount of ATK points (30 or so?)

The thing rangers lack on, is hp, and ac....

Ever seen a man's AC in full Tolan's? <DROOL> Or try full Kael Quest armor? <DOUBLE DROOL>

To all you you gripping about who gets these arms..look at it this way: Its good for EVERYONE! All casters can benifit from INT STA AC etc.. AS to have 45 AC..yes tanks would LOVE to have it too..but the reason its SOOOO uber is that its a caster item...and because its so Uber Rare there isn't a worry about balancing issues..Quite whining about the Uber items other classes get and pay more attention to what your own class gets..Casters dont complain about the Uber damage items because they dont melee..In the end game unless your a warrior you should be more concerned with weapons because you shouldnt be getting hit! A rogue with 45 AC arms is ridiculous!!! A warrior gets hit..and clerics do too..and if things go badly so is a chanter..anyone else getting hit is doing their job wrong or badly! So, from the classes able to use it..the ac is most important for the Chanter...anyone that complains about that has never had their **** saved by a chanter..or been on a raid and died cuz their chanter bit the dust! Get real and quit yer whining!

I completely agree with you. I played a warrior up to level 32, before getting bored of playing melee and starting a necro. My usual group was myself, a cleric, a mage, an enchanter, and a druid. I have had my *** saved by the enchanter more than the cleric. The druid and mage never took any damage, but the enchanter got hit at least once or twice almost every multiple mob fight. Of course, the cleric and I took a majority of the damage, but this is to be expected. This was up to level 32, which isn't even close to the high level game, but I appreciate good enchanters as much as anyone else. My enchanter friend is level 55 now, so I hear enough about the high level game to understand why a guild would give this to an enchanter before any other class. I'm not saying this isn't a great arm piece for every Int based caster, but need loots before want in my book, and enchanters definately have the need.

Just my 2 cp, I could be wrong.

You are not wrong. Enchanters have the interesting role of HAVING to cast on things often before anyone else has gotten aggro. Combine this with the fact that enchanters get the hit points of a caster, and you can see why a lot of higher end enchanters go for AC/HP items. You get resisted once or twice, can't get a stun off in time, etc, and you get one dead enchanter. Even 100 more HPs, or a bit higher AC, can save not just the enchanter, but the entire group.

Example: Monk (or puller) pulls two or three (or more) mobs too many. Enchanter attempts to mez the adds, gets resisted. Mobs runs straight to the chanter. BOOM second mez sticks. Chanter tries to mez the second mob, gets resisted. Second mob is on the chanter before he can try again. Chanter tries to stun, inturruped because he is gettting pounded on. Mezzed mob breaks mez early. Ouch, two mobs beating on the chanter. Chanter gets stun off, backs up, roots one, mezzes other.Cleric gets off a heal, saves chanter. (Extra HP/AC actually saved chanter, just allowed the cleric time to get a heal off.)
Cleric dosent get aggroed by one/both of those mobs because chanter was able to root/mezz before cleric cast heal.

If the chanter dies in that situation, the group now has more mobs than they can handle, perhaps killing the whole group. If the cleric heals before the chanter can mez/root the mobs, the cleric can get aggroed which in turn may kill the melees because the clerics complete heal etc just got inturrupted. (The melees most likely are all assisting on the 3rd or 4th mob the chanter is NOT mezzing/rooting.)

Sometimes the most danger can come from being a GOOD enchanter. Almost all good clerics make keeping the chanter alive a big priority. Sometimes though, by not ever getting beat on, clerics can "forget" your health bar. They are busy timing complete heals on the tanks of the group, and then the one time you get aggroed, they forget how little it takes to get you killed. They start to cast a heal that will take WAY too long to save you, and you watch as your bar drops from full to nothing in a matter of seconds. Most clerics I group with in pick-up groups are thankfully aware of this. ANY ac and hp are always useful.

I would say they are "tankish" but not "main tanks". Obviously thay can't tank like a warrior, but they can be really useful as a secondary tank. Great for peeling mobs off of casters, then root parking them after, so the enchanter can then mez or re-mez, etc. And we never can forget sow, snare, etc, along with jolt spells etc to help take the aggro off of themselves. Not tanks, but great secondary tanks. I would take a warrior/ranger tank combo all the way.

Yeah, this is itemflation at its worst. Some servers may have one of these within a year or so. Talk about wrecking the balance of the game - one caster, somewhere out there, probably on another server, gained 5% survivability! Hell, there goes the neighborhood! Meanwhile, rogues find their epic quest roughly as difficult to do as getting blacksmithing up to 100.

What's with the shouting? And who was saying that he was a one time spawn? I must've missed that post, because I only see people saying that it was unlikely that he would be killed again because of the difficulty of arranging a large enough party.

Anyway, all that aside, you are correct, he is not a one time spawn. In fact, if you had bothered to go to the website that Naddur mentions in his post below ( you would've seen that Vulak'Aeer has been taken down again. With more crazy loot as a result.

I can just see FOH spending the next few months (with the help of other guilds) farming Vulak'Aeer every time he spawns. At least, until VI nerfs his loot table so that only FOH members (and a couple others) will have this stuff.
Don't get your hopes up
# Jun 30 2001 at 4:23 PM Rating: Excellent
For everyone's information this item drops off Vulak'Aeer. Vulak is the head boss in ToV, and has only been killed once (on all servers). This Badass was take down by the combined forces of FoH and Cestus Dei. Yes you heard me right it took more firepower than Fires of Heaven has to take this mob down. To quote Furor off the Fires homepage ( "The actual fight with this beast lasted over 14 mins and took an INCREDIBLE force to complete. Don't ask me what that means, just know that the amount of firepower we dumped in him would have killed Statue of Zek four times over...." The drops were this incredible arm piece, the best rogue weapon currently in the game (Mrylokar's Dagger of Blood), and a decent belt (Feeliux's Cord of Velocity). If anyone else kills Vulak before the Luclin expansion I for one will be amazed. Afterlife may be a guild with comparable firepower to FoH, but they will need help from other guilds (just like FoH did) before they could take Vulak down. But thats just my opinion. BTW the arms were given to Zamtil (enchanter), Dagger was given to Ruluvien (Rogue), and the belt went to Daahound (Monk). So if there is any debate over who really should get the arms I would say a chanter.

Anyone who gives this to an enchanter before a BRD or SHD should be shot in the face. Do you honestly think that a 45ac sleeve is going to prolong the life of an enchanter more than 10 seconds when facing mobs that hit for 300+??
RE: Don't get your hopes up
# Aug 10 2001 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
prolong the life of an enchanter 10 secs?? isnt that more than enough time for then to mezz 2 more creatures??..yes it is....i know i am a level 50 enchanter and 10 secs is enough to stop a whole damn train if you ask me. so if you want that SK to get it go for it. but dont cry when that SK dont stop that train coming.
RE: Don't get your hopes up
# Jul 05 2001 at 11:01 PM Rating: Excellent
Here is my point of view.

In any high-level raid there are usually 3 types of people that get hit.

The main tank.
The Cleric.
The Enchanter.

So yes, I believe it is a much better choice to put this on the chanter before the bard.

45 AC is as much as a Cobalt Breastplate. You can't tell me a Cobalt Breastplate doesn't help a warrior much, considered to nothing.

This item screams enchanter, although useful for all classes listed.

Remember everyone, that sometimes you aren't in a group going up against one of these huge mobs, sometimes you are in a group of people in a place like Nagafens Lair and in that case any person that can wear this stuff will indeed reap the benefits of it's AC and all of the other stat buffs and resits.

um, sentance structure? =p

anyway I think your trying to avocate pro-ench on these.

imo it should only go to an enchnater if every single warior in your guild has 45ac or close armplate, also the lack of HPs make it not absolutly amazing as it could be. But its probably better than half of the arms most uber guilds wear.

as for casters. its prety obvious enchanter benifits the most from this. By this level of the game enchanters use charistma not at all (not to mention most can get over 300 int easy from just thier nodrop items), it just dosent affect mobs at all. But they still tank a fair amount in groups/planes. Tho by the time your killing this the mobs your normally fighting -- if your tanking as an enhcnater its time to boot you from the raid, since nothing is mezable, and it just means you aernt controling agro.

On a lot of mobs, an enchanter or other debuffer doesn't have the luxury of controlling their aggro. They need to debuff right then, right there. Whether you live or die then can be really based on your equipment - I'm an enchanter who thinks that higher AC for casters does have an impact on how hard/often ubermobs hit us.

for those who say it goes to the Bard or Shadowknight, you are highly mistaken. In the high end game there is only 1 tank where AC/HP is important, and thats the main tank. Its also nice to have a secondary heh. Everyone else, if they get hit, usually will back off or risk dying until they no longer have aggro. I seriously doubt many guilds have a SK or Bard as their main tank, I remember Verant stating warriors would always have the highest HP and AC of any class, so they are fit to be the main tank. I've carried on long enougn =p

If I was leading a raid to this zone, this item would most definately go to the main Enchanter. If you've ever raided, then you'll know, the first sign of imminent peril is often the death of an enchanter. Besides, they work their butts off constantly to keep people alive.

Are you crazy? Sure, enchanters need AC. AC is great. Ohhh, look, it has 45 AC. Sure, this is a great piece that would go great to an enchanter. However, this would go great to any of the other classes it is available to. 7 to all saves, 15 int, 40 mana, 15dex, 15sta... this most likely comes from deep in Temple of Veeshan and I, as a mage, would be extremely PO'd if this item went to an enchanter just because "It has high AC." Sure, an enchanter would benefit from this a lot, but so would a shadowknight, a bard, a necro, a wizard, or a mage. I am getting so pissed off at people saying that an item should go to one certain class because of one of the stats on the item. Get real people, you're either extremely low in levels, e-bay, or ignorant. This type of item does not go to the enchanter just because it has high AC. It is randommed to anybody who WILL (not can, will) use it.

Ok, end of rant. Anybody know what mob drops this nice piece of equipment that has every caster, SK, and bard drooling? I know it's from ToV, just wanna know the mob.

If you haven't played an enc in the high end of the game, just one thing to say. Shadup!!!
You have no idea how much we get bish slapped around by mobs when we cast the following spells.
Tash/slow/cripple/charm/mezz/aoe stuns. Now put a resist on one of these, like the aoe stun, your gonna get slapped around alot till a tank realizes or a cleric realizes what's going on you only have one thing to rely on, guess what that is? it's not charisma, no not int.. it's AC. Than there's when charm breaks or mezz breaks, these are things we can't controll, it's our job to do these things, Wiz/mage/necro/halfbreads/ you can directly controll your agroe by how much your nukes/melee are hitting them, and when. As long as you wait till tank has agroe, you than assist and do your thing. But enc's have to take on adds, there is no agroe built up on adds by the tank, no one else but you takes agroe of one, two, three and sometimes even more mobs. Now look at what you said and maybe reavulate it a bit.

One of the highest AC items in the game is an ARM slot item? And it doesn't weigh anything? And its mostly for caster classes?

Either VI is smoking crack or someone is putting FoH's logo on their fakes to make them more believable.

Cancel that. Unlikely to be a fake - posted by the site admin for
Just more EQ weirdness. At least they are consistant in their inconsistancy.

i wear a cap that increases my strength and a mask that increases my dexterity, so what does the slot in which an item fits have to do with anything? it's obviously a magical armband, so the AC comes from a magical source. perhaps it creates a forcefield, perhaps it causes your opponents vision to blur, perhaps they allow you to parry attacks.

as for the weightlessness, see above's magic.

as for the class, who needs AC more than casters? as a rogue, i'd love one of these, but we can't always get what we want.

there are all sorts of items out there for all sorts of folks, so grab what you can with both fists, and don't covet thy neighbor's gear.

So, by your rules nothing should have any consistancy. In fact you don't seem to have any rules. We could have any item on any slot with 50AC and could be used by casters and have 0.0 weight. You don't see any problem with that?

Alrighty, well once you've gotten a little higher than level 16 maybe you'll understand the game more.

The question is not "how". Duh, its magic. No one was looking for a "how". I think "why" is a better question.

There are balance issues that are critical to fairness in the game. Where AC is distrubited, how it affects burden and who can use it are all critical elements in the game.

Just addressing caster's having high AC items: Of course casters need AC, they are supposed to be low AC. If casters could tank MOBs why would the game need fighters.

This is an odd item. It would be unbalancing except for the fact that so very few people will end up having one.

if you will read the post i was responding to, sharkpuppet's concern seemed to be that this was a weightless arm slot item and he didn't seem to understand how an arm slot item could be weightless and affect armour class. i explained some theories on magical armour class. if i mistook his sarcasm, i humbly apologize for wasting your time and writing a response.

i'm not sure i understand what consistency has to do with anything, and as far as magic items go, what rules would YOU apply? what limits do YOU propose? why not a magical armband that an incredibly powerful mage crafted eons ago to protect himself from bodily hurt? it could be a toe ring or a nose ring, so , yes, we could have "any item on any slot with 50ac...". i don't see a problem with that.

while i may be a newbie to EQ, i've been playing RPG's for better than 20 years, so i understand the need for game balance very well. how many of these do you think you're going to see? will there be roving bands of wizards pummelling all who stand in their way? how can an item this rare affect game balance?

you said it yourself...this is an odd item. it is earned only after living a long life and then surviving a massive dragon raid. let the casters have it, and forget it even exists.
