Hmm..

My main server is on Quellious, and I was curious, if anyone from that server knows what this choker is worth about? I have one, I won the roll with a 420 out of /ran 500! Wooohoo! 420!
err...anyways
It has no required level, unlike almost all of the other ft items do, unless ya include crown of narandi. I've personally never EVER seen this choker up in bazaar, never seen anyone in auction channel try and sell it. I'm not saying I will sell mine, but just curious, because if it's worth or could be worth an insane amount of plat, I'd might be inclined to sell. =D

Currently selling on Drinal for 100,000pp. 100k and up is a typical price for droppable, no-level-recomended velious gear. This, along with the white dragonscale helm and zlandicar's heart, make some of the best twink gear available.

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 18 2002 at 3:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Um...wanna know why it affects Zephyr of Brell? Because Zephyr is an FT 2 with an Extended enhancement effect to it...that's why it affects it...and all things excluded, with FT of 15, plus a few adds, your mana regen can go up to about 45...so quit yer whining and learn the facts before ya post
RE: Noobs...
# Nov 15 2002 at 4:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Hmm, actually, Zephyr of Brell is only an extended enhancement focus effect now, it no longer has an FT component. The 8th shawl is FT3 + ZoB, both listed separately.
RE: Noobs...
# Jan 07 2003 at 12:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Exactly.

ZoB is a focus effect that gives you +20% duration to your buffs (you'll see a "shimmer" emote or something when you use it, forget...stopped looking at mine lol).

Now that the shawl has a seperate FT3 function, you can stack FT items up to a worth of 15 (in whatever combination).

FT doesn't apply to AA bought mana regen (Mental Clarity), buffs, or odd named FT equivalents (think the Talisman of the Burrower is an example of one that stacks).

the FT cap applies to all worn mana regen effects. So the Blessing of Vah Kerrath on the Talisman of Vah Kerrath (8hp/mana regen)will only stack with 7 more FT (for a total of worn mana regen 15), before it hits the cap. it is still possible to raise mana regen through buffs and songs, but there is a hard worn mana regen cap of 15.

About FT Stacking
# Sep 02 2002 at 9:33 PM Rating: Decent
Sadly, a HARD CAP was placed on mana regeneration via worn items; the limit is now 15 points of mana regeneration. This cap not only applies to Flowing Thought, but also to effects such as "Zephyr of Brell," etc etc.

A discussion and logs proving this can be found here: http://www.fohguild.org/forums/showthread.php?s=928658e3466544a1fb59e06c80f44787&threadid=1543

On a more subjectice note... IMHO, this sucks. =(

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 06 2002 at 2:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) From what I know the FT effect stack with itself, but not with the same number. as an example, an item like this with FT I and something with FT II, will stack, but 2 items with FT I will not. At least that is the way it was explained to me by someone. So despite how many items you have, you can only have ONE Flowing Thought effect of each type number (I-VII) at any one time.

If you have an FT1 item and an FT2 item, you get FT3 total. Furthermore, if you have several FT items of the same level, they too will stack. So FT1+FT1+FT1 will give you a total of 3 extra regen per tick.

You can have a maximum of 15 points of FT in total.

Is this the quest that kills all the Dwarves in Thurgadin as well as loads the zone up with all sorts of nasty Frost Giants? If so, this war was one of the best times I've had in EQ to date. (8+ months now). The PC leading this had "The Cavalier" appended to his name (BOTB Winner?) One stupendous badass of a player. I backstabbed as many giants as I could get in range of and got to loot one of the axes (lore item, they were rotting everywhere) the Giants drop.
I can't imagine leading this charge with my Rogue, but when my SK gets up there, I'll be doing this quest. It was a blast...

The Coldain in Thurgadin do indeed keel over dead but ONLY if the war in the Great Divide is lost. This effect lasts for some minutes and then the zone repops back to normal. I've seen it just once and that's enough.

The giants drop "glowing velium" weapons with lousy stats. They're junk. Sometimes I pick one up if I get a breather (I'm usually a kiter) for selling to a merchant. It's good for some small change.

The giants are not Frost Giants per se, they are Kromrif Recruits, Kromrif Warriors, Kromrif Captains, Priests of Zek, etc. on up to Narandi the Wretched himself. Frost Giants are easy to solo. These Kromrif/Kromzek, on the other hand, are worthy of your best might, magic and tactics on a large scale. An hour's preparation and three hours or so of war can mean up to SIX uber upgrades for participants.

Yes, the loot is great. But perhaps most satisfying of all is the knowledge that you and all your friends have succeeded at an unusual, massive, and incredibly fun challenge. And THAT is worth all the trials and tribulations of one's early EQ life. Best of luck!

# Jun 25 2001 at 3:53 AM Rating: Default
I'm not sure about you but I don't know too many people who would commit to and complete this huge quest. I believe it has been done already on my server (brell) but the undertaking of this quest is jaw dropping. The rewards that this quest gives are awesome and it would be great to see whatever uber guild to outfit their members with awesome stuff like this (no comment on flowing thought) but would take ages. Can you imagine seeing a war being weiged in Great Divide once a week between Coldain and Kromrif? Not that many people would appreciate all the traffic.

I'm not really getting at anything here, just giving my opinion on the quest. Its huge and hardcore, but is the work worth the reward? Only if you can keep doing it over and over again.

Enjoy!

Here is more detail of the quest. This snippet shows where Garadain (and the other coldain heroes) are stationed during the war.

[Wed May 09 19:29:09 2001] Seneschal Aldikar says 'We knew the day might come when the Kromrif would discover the location of our beloved city. It was only prudent for there to be a plan for such a circumstance. In light of recent developments, however, our plans have been adjusted. Outlander, the Dain has appointed you to lead our armies in defense of Thurgadin.
[Wed May 09 19:29:40 2001] Seneschal Aldikar says 'Garadain will post his men in the gorge to the east. Churn and his men will await your command in the caves to the west. Dobbin will have his forces at the ready in the clearing directly south of here near the towers. If any Kromrif make it to his vicinity he and his men will attack with or without your command.
[Wed May 09 19:29:56 2001] Seneschal Aldikar says 'Lastly, Corbin will hide his men in the worm caves to the south, call on him for a surprise attack. Remember where these men are stationed, outlander. Should they call out for help you may wish to send some of your people to aid them.
[Wed May 09 19:30:12 2001] Seneschal Aldikar says 'The leader of this invasion is a powerful Kromrif named Narandi. Rumor has it that he is more powerful than any ten of his peers. He must fall. When he is slain you must show his head and the ninth ring to me.
[Wed May 09 19:30:28 2001] Seneschal Aldikar says 'Scout Zrelik here will follow you and serve as your herald. He will relay your orders to the troops. Show me your ninth ring now to verify your identity and I will give you the orders to memorize.

Notice that Garadain is stationed at the eastern spire, tucked away in a little depression. That spire is to the north of the wiz tp spires, where an occasional squad will spawn. To get the choker you must be sure to intercept and decimate all giants that spawn in that area before they threaten his welfare. Any two giants on a solo hero will take the hero out.

edit: The coldain hero that gives the Choker of the Wretched at the end of the quest is actually Garadain (not Corbin). The player commanding the coldain armies must actively keep Garadain out of the worst of the battle, to see this item. Needless to say, if Garadain dies, you lose the choker, so keep an eye out for him and his welfare.

On Nov. 27, 2001 we did the GD War again, this time for one of our rangers. (It was just as fun as ever.) Here's the relevant snippet from Garadain:

Garadain Glacierbane removes a choker from the severed head and returns both items to you, 'Congratulations on your victory, Tolian . I couldn't have done a better job myself. May Brell protect and watch over you and your friends. Farewell.
Not Dropped
# Jun 20 2001 at 8:35 AM Rating: Decent
This item is not dropped. At the end of the war, for each of the named Coldain captains you kept alive gives you a side-reward, like this choker, and the Crown of Narandi.

That's why the items are droppable, because the person who quests for the ring must also turn in to get each of the side rewards. If they weren't droppable, he couldn't distribute them out to his raiders.

From what I have heard, Flowing Thought Stacks with everything, including itself. So if you have 2 Flowing Thought effect items, you get +2 mana regen a tick. I was under the impression that the stacking was what made the effect so cool. 1 extra mana per tick is nice, sure, but at the level where you'd actually have an item with this effect, it doesn't make a massive difference, unless it stacks.

I could be offbase on this, I'm lvl 39, so any of these items are a ways away for me, but thats what I've heard from several higher level friends online, as well in posts on this site.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 08 2002 at 10:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) from my understanding ft1 will not stack with ft1, however ft2 and ft1 will stack..

So far it's stacking with everything. I've encountered no conflicts with any mana regenerative spell cast on me (eg. Gift of Brilliance by lvl 60 enchanter) or I cast on myself (eg. Form of the Howler) while wearing the choker. I haven't tested it yet while also wearing other Flowing Thought items, but I expect no conflicts there either. I believe the Flowing Thought effect line was designed to be weak, no-maintenance mana regens with little or no compatibility issues. That combination makes life just a bit easier. And as you know, every bit helps.
RE: Stack?
# Jun 22 2001 at 2:49 AM Rating: Default
actually, as far as I know verant has refrained to comment on this (like they did haste back in the day).

So as of right now I'd assume they dont stack, due to the way it works with haste, and since 1m/tick is almost impossible to trace in one bar of mana its very hard to prove either way that they stack/dont, not to mention only a small handfull of people serverwide have 2 of these items I would guess.

# Jan 14 2002 at 2:07 PM Rating: Default
As of this year, Verant has stated that they fixed a bug the prevented Flowing Thought items from stacking effects.

The exact amoumt of extra mana regeneration is 1, according to spdat.eff; also, Flowing Thought II gives an extra 2 mana.
For some strange reason, the rest of the series does not add anything, perhaps because VI has yet to make an item with Flowing Thought [number greater than 2]. Actually, I have never seen anything that uses II either.

The Crown of Narandi has Flowing Thought II on it, which naturally corresponds to an extra mana regen of 2 per tick. It is yet another coldain hero's reward at the end of the 10th ring quest, just like the choker.

And before you get your hopes up I should tell you the crown is for paladins and shadowknights only. Magnificent stats, though.

Hmm, I had provided more details than that in original submission. I guess it was dropped somewhere.

This item is indeed a result of the 10th Coldain Hero's Ring Quest. One of the coldain heroes gives it as reward for keeping him alive. His name escapes me at the moment but I will provide an update as soon as I find out. There was SO much going on at the end of Rexxor's GD War recently that I didn't realize I'd been awarded this the only really awesome caster drop of the war until my screen erupted in purple tells congratulating me. I am humbled and proud to wear this item for Valoran.

After a number of such wars in GD, that was Valoran's first one in which all five coldain heroes survived... and with the new improved Narandi the Wretched at that. This particular hero has been very hard to keep alive. You MUST keep track of the coldain heroes and use tactics that keep them out of deadly harm's way to get the five hero's rewards. Good luck to all who attempt it, it's the most fun in all of EQ, IMHO.
