Just wondering why this is listed as Xe Toolbox and not the correct Deluxe Toolbox ?

It obviously doesn't show up in Searches as it should.

There's a known bug with Item Collector where it occasionally truncates names. We're trying to track down when/where this happens, but in the meantime, if you run Item Collector in the background as you play and come across this item, it should automatically fix itself on our servers.

as far as I am concerned, these are must have items for all classes and races. 10 slot container that holds giant items for under 2 plat. until you can get weight reduction packs, this is a must have for everyone

Nelin Signus (a gnome) sells these as standard inventory (4th down on the right) in the tradeskills building due west of the main bank in PoK (loc p405 p844). When coming up the stairs, go straight to the far left door and he is in room behind and to the left.

This puts this vendor extremely close to the main bank for those that want to swap out other containers for these. As a guild banker, I use these exclusively on our bankers. 24 of them :) Enjoy.

I saw one on a female gnome vendor in the building that houses the necro trainers in PoK. This building is by the Neriak stone, to the right of it as you face the Neriak stone (facing south, so the building is to the west). I'm not sure if this gnome vendor sells deluxe toolboxes or if someone just sold one to her.
RE: PoK?

The vendor's name is Maryalis N`Ryt and she is indeed in the PoK building between the Neriak & Oggok stones. Her exact location is -857, 197.

I bought one from her and she still had them listed in her inventory, so I'm inclined to think she has an "infinite" supply. I paid 1p 1g 2c with indifferent and about a 150 Charisma.

I found three of these that someone sold to a merchant in Felwithe. These make nice bank boxes or are light enough to carry around if you have decent strength. The fact that they hold GIANT items, means you don't have to have a free inventory slot for oversized items (unless you are doing a quest hand in, then you still need a free primary slot for whatever you get back). Until you can make or afford to buy Handmade Backpacks, this is probably the best (and cheapest) 10 slotter you'll find. Too bad you normally have to go all the way to Thurgadin or Echo Caverns to get them.

I have tried for the last 2 days to get the vendor in iceclad that sells these to sell to me. I am amiable with him but all he says is "can't you see i'm busy right now" and other such stuff (acts as if someone attacked him and pulled him from his normal location).

If a vendor is away from their usual 'spot' they often wll no longer trade. You have to wait for them to go back to their trading sopt or wait for a server reset.

This is an assumption on my part, I base this on the Shar Vjhal merchants, some of which wande about, and untill they wander back to their trading spot, will not sell to you.

Also drops off of Dack(?) (forgot surname - he's the gnome caster that spawns with Murph Cobblestone, in the mutant camp)in Echo Caverns. Looted one last night, seems to be his common drop (partner looted one on the next kill, and mage that joined us later had already looted 2). Don't know if this is an add since the last patch (my first time fighting here). Hope that helps, if someone is looking for them.

Containers
# Nov 13 2001 at 2:12 AM Rating: Excellent
There is one thing I am disappointed in, as probably any crafter or quester is, is that you can not put small containers in to larger containers. Imagine your house and not being able to put your bowl in an oven, or your screwdriver case inside your toolbox. Even if you had to keep the containers MT before putting them inside another container, at least it would seem that you could put a Paw of Opalla, or bowl, or even the jewelry kit in a large container. But I guess verant wants people to have a lot of mules just to carry a bowl, spit, sewing bag, your current quest container, your light source, and a small jewelry kit. Heaven help you if you want a tackle box, tool box, or any other containers.

sorry
/rant off

Putting containers in containers would end up giving you virtually unlimited carry capacity (up to the point you can no longer move due to the weight of course). If people didn't have to run to a merchant to empty their packs once in a while, someone could camp a mob practically forever and nobody else would ever get in. If you think all the good spots have waiting lists now, what do you think they would be like if people had 3 or 4 hundred inventory slots in their packs?

I haven't tried this myself yet, but has anyone tried selling tradeskill made containers in bazaar with a traders satchel? It would be nice to be able to buy things like Vale Sewing kits and Feir'Dal fletching kits from a trader instead of trusting someone with your money and raw materials to make one on the spot for you. Handmade backpacks would likely be big sellers in bazaar if you could put containers inside trader satchels as well.

Argueing common sence for something that is clearly game coding, doen not work well. If you want it realistic, everything need to ave bothe a volume and a weight. You could only carry one bag, and you should be hampered in combat, when carrying a big backpack. If you were carrying lots of stuff in your bags, finding things should take time. In addition you should need a skill for packing bags effeciently. All in all I think the currently level of realism for inventory management is fine.

Yes they should make some or all combine type containers collapsable, so when combined empty, they would turn into a non-container time, that could be right clicked to turn back into a container. That may happen some day, then again it may not.
RE: Containers
# Jan 29 2003 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
Yep, could post.

It's a matter of having a level of abstraction from real life in the interest of making the game playable. Too real = too cumbersome and no fun

Speaking of realism, how many people do you know that can successfully swim while dressed in a full suit of plate mail? Or, fire a bow with accuracy while running? Or, eat and drink while engaging in melee combat? Or, bake in a spit while running or swimming? Or,.... you get the idea.

Unfortunately, there is the downside of not being able to put an empty sack inside a backpack. Then again, the game does allow a person to carry eight (fully loaded) backpacks. I think it's a good tradeoff.
RE: Containers
# Oct 19 2003 at 8:25 AM Rating: Decent
/agree, thinking about realism just brings really funny images to mind.

You can carry 8 packs containing a houseful of goods, and you can still DODGE, and you want to be able to nest them? hehe.

Good reply. Game mechanics are just that - mechanics. They can never equal real life.

But on a happy note, Verant just added new recipes for tinkering that allow collapsible versions of most of the normal combinable trade skill containers to be made. Thank gods. But the prices for created tinkering items like this aren't gonna be cheap either.

# Feb 26 2002 at 3:36 AM Rating: Decent
Well, you also would not normally be able to put giant sized items in a toolbox. Or large size items in a backpack. Imagine a backpack with 8 two handed swords in it....

So maybe it would make sense if you could put an empty container that can only hold small items, in a container that holds giant items. But for the most part, it kind of makes sense to me.
RE: Containers
# Sep 03 2002 at 6:20 AM Rating: Decent
The reason is a game coding issue. Containers inside containers can lead to infinite loops and crash problems. I've played games where it's possible, and if you stack too many containers inside each other, eventually you suck up so much memory and processing power that things start tweaking out. While most people wouldnt abuse it, I guarantee there are some that would do it just cause they can.

I do like the idea of collapsable containers tho, click combine on an empty container (certain ones) and they become an item with 1 charge that summons the appropriate container. Might be something to suggest to Verant.

Well, the usefulness of this item as an actual adventuring/raiding piece is questionable. BUT, fill your bank up with these and you instantly have 80 inventory storage spaces.

Try that on for size.

The bazaar now sells these things called "trader packs", they're a little over 1pp each and are 10 slots. Each is 25.0 wt, though, so definitely not meant for carrying around. I think they're called "Trader's Satchel", I just bought 8 of them and stuck them in my bank and now I have 80 giant slots in my bank as well.
Damn Verant

I use to buy 8 of these at a time in Iceclad for a grand total of 15p, and sell them for 75pp each in EC back when they used to weigh 0.5 stones. I made a killing until Verant made containers a lot heavier.. Now i'm sure there were a lot of monks pissed off when that change happened.. oh well. I guess that teaches me to not get anymore get-rich-quick ideas. haha

They changed the weight of these for the same reason the went through the whole "deluxe sewing kit" fiasco. Having a ten slot container, weighing 0.5, severely reduces the profitibality of tailored 10 slot backbacks, which weigh 3.0 (but have a 10% weight reduction). This change was made to appease the tailors who used the 10-slot backpacks as a reliable source of income. Although these aren't practical to carry stuff around in, there certainly a cheap and convenient way to increase the capacity of your bank vault. I have 6 of these in my vault (would have got 8, but need two slots for my sewing kit and mixing bowl, whic can't be placed in containers).

I'm sure this is great for holding all kinds of items. The purpose of this item is for the tinkering trade. It is used in the manufacture of watchman's gear witch have 9 and 10 ingredients.
RE: Intended use
# Jun 17 2001 at 9:57 PM Rating: Default
I wouldn't be surpeised if Verant *****'s tinkereers like the screwed tailors on the Wu's armor.

As soon as a nice set of tailored armor came out, they removed 10-slot tailoring kits from the game and forced us to use city based looms, unless you're one of the people that stocked up on pre-nerf large sewing kits(I have 10).

Wu's armor was the first armor set to use the new 10-slot kits, then Verant decided to restrict their manufacture to city based looms(unless you have a non-merchant bought 10-sloter).

If watchmans armor becomes a popular twink armor, you can be sure Verant will try to restrict how easily pieces of it can be made by making it city (craft container) made only.
RE: Intended use
# Nov 21 2001 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
10 slot sewing kits are cultural items made by smiths arent they?

Also, there is no "pre-nerf" sewing kits, they retroactively changed the weight on all of em.
I had my ineventory and bank full of the Vale sewing kits.
RE: Intended use

Hmm... obviously someone hasn't been paying attention. 10-slot tailoring kits are now called "Deluxe Sewing Kits" and are available for sale from vendors all over the place.
And let's face it, tinkerers are already getting the shaft when it comes to actually trying to make things.

"... tinkerers get the shaft" - lol! Don't they need it to make something? =)

Anywho, I actually have a question: Can these 10-slot tinkering kits be used to make standard tinkering items, or just the 'special' stuff? i.e. can they be used to make fireworks, one of the many cool tinkered items, one that can now be summoned by any ebay mage for a tiny amount of mana? <sigh> LONG LIVE THE SPYGLASS!

Here's a big salute to all you tinkerers out there! <YOU ROCK! GNOMIES! =>

I have never found a deluxe sewing kit for sale (not permanent stock anyway). I already have a few because I had some large sewing kits that were turned into the deluxe with the old patch, but I have never seen any merchant anywhere with the Deluxe sewing kits. I think the only reason a few merchants even have some deluxe kits is because PC's sold them to the vendor and a patch hasn't reset the vendor stock yet.

Yes I tailor. So I look around everywhere for things to do w/ tailoring, I say this so that you know that what I said is from actual hunting for the kit exp.
RE: Intended use
# Jun 18 2001 at 4:54 PM Rating: Default
Aparently you are not a tailor. They removed 10 slot Sewing kits from the game because it was taking from the 10 slot backpack market. If you did not buy them while they were in game then you must use the loom in your town if you have a recipe that takes more than 8 slots. Fortunatly when I found this out I stocked 2 mules with them. GL to you all.

RE: Mages are better =)
# Jun 16 2001 at 9:53 PM Rating: Default
I'd be amazed if one could find a 51+ magician in everfrost(nevermind west of the Karanas) to summon them one of those bags.

However, the odds of finding a lvl 5+ shaman in everfrost to summon them a spirit pouch in everfrost is probably 100%.
RE: Mages are better =)
# Jun 17 2001 at 9:42 PM Rating: Default
But mages can summon a 6-slot 100% wt reducing bag at 34, and that's a level when many mages are near paw/perma/HK.

But I will say that with the expansions it's harder to find mid/high level players in the old world.

Ok, so people are arguing over the usefulness of this as a ten slot container. Lets completely ignore that it might have a use for tinkering also, maybe with some new upcoming recipies.
Why is this so bad
# Jun 16 2001 at 12:04 AM Rating: Decent
A ten slot box that can hold giant items?Wow could have used this killing mammoths near everfrost...Tusks are giant items and don't fit in normal bags...They sell for 6 or 7 plat to vendors...So rather than having to run around with no bags you can put 10 of these is this box and heck you've had a good day at the office when its time to sell...Just my opinion
RE: Why is this so bad
# Jun 16 2001 at 6:18 AM Rating: Decent
Nice idea but ... mammoth tusks have a weight of 10 so if you fill a ten-slot with em or even a regular toolbox that holds 8 you're gonna be crawling. You're better off having a shaman summon you a couple spirit pouches that hold 4 giant items with 100 pct weight reduction.
RE: Why is this so bad
# Jun 16 2001 at 6:24 PM Rating: Decent
Just do as i have done before fighting mammoths you use sewing kits thay hold large also and you just have a caster in the group who holds all the tusks and is bound next to a merchant at Halas he gets filled up with the tusks then gates and returns and splits the cash from them out works best with a druid or shaman also for sow to hasten the return and have more killing.
