The area near Sleepers is probably the best place to focus. I spent 10+ hours before I got my first egg.

I started tracking the whole zone, but only had success when I concentrated on killing Mammoths around Sleepers and on the line to Kael.

loc -5914 +1650 is a spawn point for Elder Griffins. The placeholder can be a wolf. Respawn is very fast. Less than 5 minutes

After reading the comments here I was a bit worried I'd be bored to death with this part, but I just picked up 8 eggs in around 30 minutes. How I did it:

I was basically doing figure 8's and running around randomly in between The Sleeper's Tomb and Kael entrances. I made a hot key for my Staff of Viral Flux (instant cast / instant recast so you can spam it while you're riding your mount), put a melee mercenary on burn, mounted up, hit auto run and then just spammed my "Target nearest NPC" key and Viral Flux hot key.

The effect was that everything in my path was getting agro'd, the melee merc was in tow mowing it down and the auto-loot system was scooping up the eggs. Mob respawns are quick here, and by the time I was doing another lap there was plenty more to start mowing down.

Hope it helps.

I just spent 20 minutes at the Sleeper's Tomb and got four eggs off of a total of six Snow Griffins. Maybe just luck, but seemed pretty reliable here.

Just spent 6 hours in EW collecting my eggs, first two came within the first hour, five hours to get the next two. No shortage of Griffins near Sleepers Statue, I am not convinced any particular mob is a PH.

I got 6 eggs in 3 hours. For a while I just killed the mammoths and manticores. Then I ran around and killed everything that was near a griffin spawn except the orcs and giants. I used a ranger to track. Hopefully that will be enough to finish this step.

I killed nothing but Mammoths and Manticores near the Icefang camp.

Then the respawns started to be mostly Dervishes and rabbits, so I killed them too.

In all it took me 2-hours plus and about 25 to 30 griggins to get just 4 eggs.

/sigh

I must have been lucky, got 4 eggs out of 8 snow griffins.

The secret is to circle between Kael Drakkal entrance, the huts with Icefang in the South and Sleeper's Tomb entrance. Keep killing Rhinos, Mammoths and Manticores, and Snow Griffins will spawn in that area.

KILL ALL MANTICORES... save their manes for later, they are placeholders, someone told me the snow bunnies are placeholders for the griffons but they are wrong

also the elder i just killed did not drop egg:

Quote:
>>There are also the rarer and slightly higher level Elder Snow Griffs which I have heard ALWAYS drop an egg.<<

Found out today this is not always the case. I killed the Elder Snow Griffon he dropped a talon and a feather no egg.

Just spent the whole night tracking griffon eggs. Got my four eggs after several hours--Woot! 165 skill couldn't successfully make this 127 recipe. WTF? I don't see how failing at tradeskills that are below your level serves any purpose other than to frustrate us. This misses the mark of any enjoyable challenge we should be getting from this game. Isn't this supposed to be fun???? Makes you think twice before starting another quest.

Well, been spending a lot of time in EW lately. Doing ring quests for my warrior and Bard. (Heh messed up the war and a turn in, so on my 4th time) And, I've had about 7 eggs drop. Always do an /ooc that it's rotting and give a loc. But, for all you egg hunters, this might be helpful.

I've been killing mostly Kodiaks and Cougars near the IC bridge. And have seen as many as 4 Snow Griffins on track (Bard track mind you, which is about an area as big as the Nexus) at one time.

Never killed them unless they agroed. Which they did a lot.

So, go kill the cats and bears in EW, and let people know when the HQ pelts are rotting (Used for the ring quest) Basically, I think anything in EW that wanders is a griffin PHEr. When I hunter eggs I killed the mammoths exclusively and had a lot of griffins pop. Hope this helps

Spent 8 14 hours getting these eggs, went through about 25 griffs, had everything ready, took a trip over to see mordin, Ok Im relaxed and ready, double and tripple check the recipe, Doble checked my skill in baking(191). ok here goes.

You lack the skill to create this item.

ok, there is a time in life when you just take a long break from this kind of BS. anyway. that was 2 weeks ago, I stopped playing EQ to get relaxed. Time to try again.

The place i had the best sucess with was at the sleepers tomb Zone in. Manticores are The place holders for sure. In 2 Hrs we killed 25 griffins and 15 manticores. We ended up with 9 griffin eggs so over all it was a good haul.

I am a pally and have no track, I was 50 plus and did not want to hassle guildies. At first i started marking Spawns and PH's on map but eventually found a great camp.
I camped next to the sleeper killing Mammoths and Rhionos, aswell as Giants for Faction with CoV. Many griffons flew past my way and got the last three i needed. If at the Sleeper no other mob will agro you there so pull it there.
However Drops work on a Binary system and therefore come in spasms but still a great place to find them.

Darn Eggs
# Aug 06 2003 at 5:13 AM Rating: Decent
I have spent too many hours to count any more waiting, looking and the griffins spawns sooooo low that my fur shall turn gray before I have my 4 eggs. You would think the programing gods would at least make the spawn rate a bit faster. After running around for all the other items needed for this shawl one would think it's the biggest best shawl in the game and yet it is only number 3. If the rest are this involved who needs the shawl you can buy better in the bazaar. OK I dont feel any better and this ain't gonna get the birds to pop any faster but maybe those programming gods will have mercy on us and increase the rate of spawn some day soon.

If you want griffins to spawn, kill all the manticores. They are linked. 50% chance of a respawn of a griffin or manticore upon the kill of either one.

Well here is Day three of Snow griffin hunting. I have found that near the Southwest Coldain camp (where Korrigan sapwns at night) is a nice camp spot. Had a druid with me and we seemed to only find about one griffin per hour on track. so far after about a total of 14 hours i have one egg. I am so proud of this egg i might just put it in a glass casing on the mantle in the guild. he, he. This quest is by far the longest and most patience testing one I've done so far. After 2 weeeks of nothing but Trade skills then this.. I'm hoping one day I make it to shawl #8 :-) Good luck everyone!! ( will post again once I have completed this quest) and I will complete this quest!! stick with it guys!! Slowing thought II rememeber :-)

Eggless...
# Apr 26 2003 at 11:38 PM Rating: Decent
these eggs seem to be non-existant, perhaps broken (on Xev at least). over the past week or so, i have killed 18, yes EIGHTEEN (i counted) snow griffins in Eastern Wastes.
i looted a LOT of feathers, and a good amount of talons, but ZERO eggs.
my friend came by when i saw the elder up (cuz im only level 36 and the elder is too high for snare to stick) and killed it for me - no egg.
Another friend has been hunting them and has killed about 3 or 4 so far - Nada.
So we have 21 regular snow griffins and 1 elder... with zero eggs???
somethings wrong, i petitioned, waiting to hear whats going on.
I know these are supposed to be rare and all, which is fine and dandy, but even assuming I had gotten 1 egg from these 22 griffins, that would still take 88 griffins to get the souffle. since i havent gotten one yet, id guess abbout 100.
I would definitely say this is broken, dont bother killing these guys until SoE patches it.

The eggs are still there, although horrendously rare. My count is now 2,the last one looted on the 4th of May. So........ no patching needed, just a bit more reproductive activities from the griffs :)
RE: Eggless...
# May 06 2003 at 8:10 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, I changed my mind. The griffins don't need to be fixed, the random number generator does.
After all those griffins, I later killed 5 (one of them was the elder but still, he didn't drop it before) and got ALL FOUR eggs needed.

Really messed up, I suggest anyone working on the shawl quest gets baking to at least 140 or buys a geerlok at around 130. I tried at 191 with a geerlok and was (thank god) successful. Now I'm a proud wearer of the third shawl =D

Just to help everyone out I just completed the shawl quest, and had to kill about 25 griffs and elder griffs to get 4 eggs. Elder griffs DO NOT always drop eggs, they might have a higher chance of droping eggs, but it isn't a given. Also be warned they will root you, so have a gate or evac up, and be sure the first spell you do on them is ensnare, they will outrun you if not, they run faster then druid sow, and the elders are much faster then the regulars, they will dot and nuke you at a distance, so be warned if kiting, good luck
