Why would a pallie want to hold agro on mobs like this, they cant disc defensive etc... Better putting a 55 war MT on mobs like this over a 60 pallie. And btw, i play a pallie, not flaming you guys.
RE: . .

Who you want for a MA is dependant on the situation. Pallies and SK's both can generate a ton of taunt if they wish to. Pallies and SK's have their time when putting them as MA can be better than a warrior. Most of the time if you want HP and AC then the warrior will be the way to go but not always. As far as a 55 warrior over a 60 paladin, not likely ever going to be better unless the poor paladin just has trash gear. You'd be amazed how much diffence 5 levels makes when tanking a mob even if the 55 has the defensive the paladin will be a better tank if he has decent equipment.

Is right on the money, pal can get as much taunt as they want, sk too. I believe a sk can get instant taunt a little bit faster, but once a pal gets it, its hard for me to pull it off. War on the other hand I usually have little trouble with. If another sk gets the taunt and wants to keep it, I have absolutely no way to get it off them. I've tested this many times, its just fail safe.

I believe that when it comes to taunting and pulling agro paladins and shadow knights are the kings of that mountain. The question is SHOULD they pull aggro.... only if MT is dead and they are MA or if caster in group pulls the agro.. then the paladin and shadow knight should get the aggro... At level 46 I use a level 9 pally spell ... Flash of Light ... it really pisses off the monstersl.... the problem with using stun (cast or clicked) is mana waste and the length of time it takes to cast using the DW bracer... 10 seconds...during which you are NOT attacking... how many swings can you get in during 10 seconds? It could mean the difference between life and death.. were couple hundred HP's make a difference.

With regard to Taunting, in hundreds of tests, Flash of Light (the humble low level spell)
whips stun consistently. Stun with the spell (not DW bracer) is great for decreasing damage
taken, and even better as a very fast - very short duration (and low mana) ROOT spell,
allowing the tanks time to aggro away from casters. The bracer just takes so long to cast
it effectively takes you out of the fight as a damage dealer, the stun spell is much quicker
and low mana. However, Flash of Light, in my many times testing and using it, out taunts
stun every time. The only danger, and in my experience it doesn't happen often, is if you are
not within melee range of target, it will run away, and then come back when spell has
worn off (incidentally, I have not persoanally seen yet, the case when mob runs and when
then brings back more of his friends, just with this spell I have not seen it).

BTW: Just got to loot this one (Emerald Bastartdsword of Purity) today, and I must say
it is awesome.. heh as much AC as my DW BP... when I equip it, AC actually rises on me
by 63.

I stopped using FoL to pull agro after I grouped in nurga in my 40's. Main reason is that even though it really pisses them off, if the pathing in the zone is bad the mob will go all other the place. Also seemed to **** off my groupmembers so I haven't used that spell near as much after level 45.

I chain stun like mad, and usually use cease and desist because they cost beans for mana and still hack off the mob just as much.

On the topic of the sword, I almost got one today but I logged in 30 minutes after it rotted /cry

EDIT: just got one the other night and I'm loving it! =)

FoL shouldn't cause mobs to run after you have established melee. Sometimes i"ll gain aggro
with cease when the puller is in route with the mob and then hit them with FoL if I lose aggro
during fight. Especially in PoP i generally like to hit mob with a stun on the way in to 1) get aggro 2) give puller a couple a steps to lose aggro 3) give slower time to tash and slow while the mob is still mad at me.
Aggrocontrol and wise usage of weapon.

First to say: I have both weapons from Telk.
This 1HS 24/24 and the 52/46 lance.

When I am Maintank in Groups I use my 1HS and a nice shield, hope i will get Fearsome shield someday.
When not Maintank i use Lance of Thunder to do "MORE" Damage.

In BOTH cases I COULD have hold aggro even if a warrior with epic is in group.

But why should I do so??

All Warrior have more Hitpoints. And some have more AC than me.
So it would be a waste of mana for the cleric if want to be MT.

Holding aggro for a paly is not as hard as said. we can chainstun, we can taunt!

Only one class i know who could "outaggro" us. thats Shadowknigts. Using low lvl snares or Asytole or other debuffs they could easyly take over aggro too.
But same reason: why should they do so.

My guild recently killed Telk and 2 of these dropped, so myself and the only other pally present recieved these swords. While this is a great weapon, it still sits in my backpack most of the time in favor of my FD. In most cases I prefer the resists and hp's I get from my epic as I am rarely doing any primary tanking anymore.

Most SKs I know are great people and both pallies and SKs got some amazing weaponry not to forget the 1hs 22 24 with clickable 750dot effect from ToV for pallies, Dawncaller I believe was the name :P Would be nice to hit Lguk with that undead DOT.

Those nice weapons help both our classes to add considerable damage, and rogues and wuzzards are just happy that the rest of us players add our share to the damage... right :) ?
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 09 2001 at 5:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't know what most of you dumb asses are talking about. This weapon is the best paladin weapon in the game..............hands down. It has the best Dmg delay, it has 40ac 25 poison resist and its freaking 1hs. I would wield this weapon at lvl 60 anyday. I would rather wield this then the freaking epic, which is a 2hs, to all the people that read and post here who are not paladins. You see, paladins get much more advantages using a 1hs because they got a skill called BASH, for you morons who post in these rooms. And the extra AC you get from a SHIELD-- thats for you ebay newbies with no lives. I swear the morons like you who post in these rooms could be a person in my group one day and kill me and all of us. Gawwd I wish you kids would go back to school or something, it would make this game a lot funner to play. Oh well I don't play everquest much anymore because I just have had it with all these 15 year old kids ******* things up for everyone else.

While true this is quite possibly the best 1hs in the game. Not sure sure though..because I prefer 2hs's myself..the damage output is much better. The ac add on it is wonderful. If one could win this likey but possible depending on how many paladins are in the raid.
As for bashing ages groups you are lowering your self, not all 15 year olds are bad or any other addolecent for that matter. Some folks just act bad no matter what age. So before you talk about people think before you post. That way you save yourself from alot of bashing. :)

Ummm, lol, wise to watch what you say. . . you know those epics of ours? Well they (despite being 2h) still allowed you to use that skill called BASH, just so ya know. I do agree this is a great weapon (I doubt its the best dmg/dly for Pallys, isn't Darkmetal 23/26 or something like that?) and it's certainly NOT the best weapon in the game (cough Primal), but 40AC on a sword is amazing. Most every high level paladin carries both a 1h + shield and a 2hander, as the cirumstances always vary for which is best to use, and I would love this as a great complement to my shield.

I think you should watch what you say JawHawk. I'm 15 years old and I'm well respected by many people, both older and younger than me IRL and IG. I think you should keep your posts centered on the subject rather than lashing out at some age group who may or may not pertain to the way you are lashing out. Broad generalities like this make people angry. By saying you are tired of 15 year olds messing the game for you is saying that ALL 15 year olds mess up EQ for you. Well, that's plain and simply not true, and your generalization by saying that can bring out angry and hurt in a lot of people.

Also, if you don't play EQ much anymore, why do you post here?

There sure are a lot of weapons w/ AC on them turning up lately. i was about to say they should make some lower level ones, but then i remembered that AC on a weapon used to be an extremely rare thing, & that doing that would cheapen the EQ experience even more. That said, i want one. Well, not this one, since i play a bard mostly, but.. well.. ok... sorry to waste yer time... good day. =)

This is to the person who has A level 54 sk and knows what he is talking about. He says the lowest delay a weapon can have hasted is 10. But that doesn't mean the lowest delay of EVERY weapon is 10.
Take the wurmslayer u used as an example. The delay on a wurmy is 40. If it could be maxxed hasted the delay would be 20. The max haste on an itme is half the delay. The people that believe otherwise must also believe you can get a weapon to absolutely no delay at all.
Also you can only acheive max haste at level 60, i believed its capped below that to like 80% or something, but i might be wrong about the percent of the cap and the level might actualy be 57.Anywyas its just a game so who really cares?
RE: Haste
# Jun 14 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Default
How do you know this?
Anyways, this information is important in choosing the correct weapon, not to see who is right, etc.
For instance, with my MoSS+RBG+AQ, I should get something more than a 14.5 delay weapon right (because being 54 my achievable haste isnt maxxed out)? If delay is measured in tenths of a second, I should hit every 1.45 seconds, which I do not. I generally hit much more often than that (kinda, 1 second < 1.45 seconds). If you have some sort of proof that you are correct I'd appreciate it, as we've been discussing this subject in guild for quite some time.

Holding Agro
# Jun 13 2001 at 5:56 AM Rating: Decent
How does a Paladin who is out Damaged by Warriors and Rangers and SK's hold Agro,,,, Chain Stun. I have a DW Bracer, all I do in a fight is continuously stun with my bracer and if its resisted I use one of my other stuns to follow up. Once I get going I usually hold the Agro of the mob till its dead :), and even if I don't, while the Mob is Stuned it can't Dodge, Parry or Reposite ( or how ever its spelled :) ) which means that the other Melee class's can do Max damage. Now, I have heard that other True Casters are better at stunning, maybe so, but once they have the Mobs attention they don't last long, I do :)

At level 51 I find that most of the mobs I encounter are immune to stun. And although stuns will sometimes interrupt a cast, it seems to be a very rare occurrence now. Maybe this is because I am fighting primarily giants, which are unstunnable? Even still, I can easily get and hold aggro of nearly all mobs up to the high 50s. I recently aquired a Tantor's Tusk (50/60 ***-kickin piercer) during a visit to WW and can now hit regularly in the 200 range. With AQ for haste, I can often outdamage the primary tank in our groups if I manage to connect a few times more than average. With only rogues and nukers able to do more damage in a single hit, this ends up being a major taunt. And if I start pouring on the Flame of Light (125dd) and Holy Might (60dd+stun), I will be sure to cruise up to the top of the mobs hate list. Chanters and Clerics that start getting caught in a summon chain can really appreciate it when a pally can save their butt by taunting instead of burning the LoH.

I guess what I am saying is that post-50, a paladin should be looking for other ways to make himself/herself more useful than relying in stunning. The ability to taunt a mob (usually only needed in emergency to get a CH off on main tank etc) is critical, but stunning cant be depended on to build hate. In fact, I sold my DW bracer several levels ago when it became obvious that I can be much more effective by swinging instead of waiting that 8 seconds (an eternity) for the bracer to cast.

It looks like a one handed mix of Nature's Defender and a GM sword, kinda. heh.

And most are right, a level 60 paladin probably wont use this over a FD in basic raid/group situations, but for certain mobs it will be extremely nice(hosh etc). The extra ac on sword+sheild combo can allow me to switch out ac gear for resists on raids, which is key for most high end encounters. Paladins dont do damage, we take it, and unless you are fighting a pure melee boss mob, the nukes/ae are gonna do you in.

I can put my FD in my bag, double my resists with gear, equip this sword and a nice sheild and be gtg. My job isnt to take aggro from the warrior, its to stay alive and assist in damage/heals.

i thought everyone knew that. I been in group several times in dreadlands where the mob MIGHT turn to them, but usually i own 90% yes even with them tuanting/duel wielding FBSS twinked out to the max ogre warriors. Pull with deepwater bracers stun effect, hit it, bam bam... run to group, stun before it with your spell Stun, bam bam, then keep hitting it... by then you have built up so much hate, and taken NO HITS, for easily over 400 damage with a popuparly used paladin sword 30damage/43delay sword. I could have swung at least 4 times or so with my sword before i even got to the group with the mob. After all that, i get beat the crapola out of me, since paladins miss so much with their weapons of course the warrior hits the hell out the thing, but not as much as the rogue.

>>>>40ac DOES MAKE ALOT OF DIFFRENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

40AC (64AC equipped) does make a difference if you are tanking. With a dmg/del of 20/30, a paladin will be doing so little damage and developing virtually no hate... therefore, they will not be holding the aggro of the mob and they will not be tanking.

By comparison, the Fiery Defender does over 450 damage per minute more than this sword. That's almost FIFTY PERCENT MORE damage.

>>>>also, dmg and del is ok anyways so it doesnt suck..

The dmg/del would be suitable if it came from a level 50 frog in Sebilis. It's an insult coming from a level 70 dragon in Temple of Veeshan.

>>>>Besides when you have a shield with

A Paladin can have 2k AC but if they are doing 50% of the damage of a warrior, or 30% of the damage of a rogue, they wont be getting hit and their AC is wasted.

This would be a great sword for a level 50 pally, but a level 60 wouldn't be caught dead wielding this (other than a few specific situations)

UMM Hey genius are you that lvl 1 using a wurmslayer i saw in EC yesterday? First of all this weapon is 20/24 not 20/30. Second with a 20dmg weapon i can get hits of 90's and 100's, and with a RBG i'll be swinging this damn thing so fast mobs wont have any choice but to aggro me especially if i use a stun or two. IMO if this thing had more stats and svs it would be as good or better than primal velium, and believe me lvl 60 paladins would be more than happy to wield this fine weapon, maybe you should get a clue as to what the hell your talking about before you go and post crap like that.

Pallys are a hybrid class, this means they do not have to even swing a weapon to aggro (although it helps), because they have, and I know this must come as a shock to some, SPELLS WHICH **** THINGS OFF (resisted or not) FAR MORE THAN MELEE DOES.

Sword is still mediocre for what it drops from, but far from useless.
RE: ahahha newbie sk's
# Jun 14 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Default
Chain stunning mobs will not develop the same amount of aggro as a warrior full on taunting and using sub 20 delay weapons.
Level 55+ and giant sized mobs cannot be stunned. The taunt factor of stuns are minimal on these types of mobs.
A warrior doing a few hundred points damage develops more aggro than a resisted stun.

Who would want a paladin over a warrior as their main tank?

The mob that drops this is a level 60 encounter. Any level 60 raid that has a paladin as the main tank is destined to failure.

A paladins job is not to tank. A paladin is a good secondary tank and a decent backup healer.

they say that in-game too. Warriors own aggro!.. whatever. Wizards own it, the dumb ones anyway over nuking the mobs, which is not their job. Enchanters own agro even more, if you break a mezz. Sometimes hard to break a mezz without mob running to chanter, even if you stun/slash/taunt it. I noticed mobs really hate stuns... and if it is resisted you have a 99% chance that mob will face you. I'm not main tank of groups, tank as in the one dealing damage. No, not even close. On the other side of a tank, paladins take damage quite well. Easily buffing ourselves past what warriors AC can me at the higher levels, same with hp. But not like anyone can solo level 50+ mobs that easy anyway. I would be more than happy to demonstrate how paladins own agro as I have been doing it for a while... making the wariorrs mad... but not to nukers/chanters, for your own good. A warriors your job is to deal damage.. by far you are 2nd best melee damage out there, next to rogue. You need to be hitting the bad guys and not getting hit/stunned at so much.

Damage is far from being the key factor in making aggro. Spells are the key way I taunt with my Shadowknight, and Paladins do the same with stuns aswell I believe.
