Wolf Whiskers
# Jun 13 2004 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
These were not as bad as I had been led to believe. I quad kited wolves by the Spire using Snare and Fist of Karana. Didnt even need KEI to keep mana up. Got the whiskers in about 45 min.
Augments

Question on augments for this item. If I put an augment in this item and then continue on with the quest to 7th Shawl, is the augment destroyed? Have some augments to use, but don't want to waste them. Thanks if anyone knows.

You will have to remove the augment before you turn in the shawl. Don't augment any except the last you plan to quest.

To be specific, you can always turn in the shawl regardless of whether it's augmented or not. You'll lose any augmentations you added to it regardless of whether you dissolve the augmentation in a "birdbath" or hand in the item.

Combine history
# Nov 08 2003 at 6:41 PM Rating: Decent
Well here is my experence doing 6th shawl combine

Tailoring 163 - 2 shawl combine fail
Tailoring 171 - 1 shawl combine fail
Tailoring 179 - 1 tread combine fail
Tailoring 179 - successful 6th shawl

Getting wolf whiskers was the most painful farming part. They are pretty rare. Sirens were also rare but not nearly as bad as whiskers.

Shawl not trival at 179

Thread Trivial
# Jun 28 2003 at 6:33 PM Rating: Decent
The Thread was trivial to me with a skill of 151. The shawl combine was NOT, but with a Tailoring Geerlok, I got lucky and succeeded on the final combine.

Got tired of making heady kiolas, attempted to make thread with skill of 125 and geerlok. Got a skill up, but no thread =(. Back to Wu's Fighting Armor.
Tailoring
# Mar 07 2003 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
Easy way to raise your tailoring:

ceremonial solstice robe it will take you to 250, and cost about 40pp-50pp a try. I took a look at it again actually about 600pp a try, but if you fail you get the gem studded silver chain back.

Unless you succeed, then you are out about 600pp, assuming you can sell the robe.

I attempted my first combine yesterday with a WIS of 206, tailoring at 164, and a Gearlok. Back to GD, EW, and CS to get everything again.

2nd route to 6th shawl introduced
# May 15 2002 at 6:13 PM Rating: Default
Made mine earlier today using this new method reported by Kassara Stilfyre in the EQTC Forums:

Just scrolling through the new recipies and noticed this one:

2 velium bits + sandlewood (in forge) = spool of sacred coldain thread. (Trivial <=173)

I'm already up to the 7th, workin on 8th, and I wasn't gonna backtrack just to try this recipe out, but a guildy of mine just finished the 5th the day before and I suggested they try out their shawl with this spool recipe.

And it worked! Took 5 tries, but it worked.

The quirk with this one is it takes like 140pp per combine attempt, but if you've got plat to spare, it sure beats hitting those dire wolves and sirens.
RE: 2nd route to 6th shawl introduced
# Nov 13 2003 at 11:47 PM Rating: Excellent
awful, awful lie. Mentioned recipe makes 'a spool' which isn't even involved.
RE: 2nd route to 6th shawl introduced
# Jan 27 2004 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
The recipe to which Retlaw is referring did actually exist at one time and it did actually make a Spool of Sacred Coldain Thread. This was an unintentional loop hole in the code. Verant discovered the loop hole and fixed it. Some people will maintain that it was "nerfed". I maintain it was fixed. It's like going to a new car dealer, having the salesman make a mistake on the window sticker price by selling it for $20, then later discovering the error and marking the price back up to $20,000, and then having people say it was nerfed.

i was successful on my 3rd try with 144 skill

1st was fully buffed with avatar & c3
2nd was buffed with c3 & boon
3rd was buffed with just c3

from my experience stats have absolutely nothing to do with success and failure

Stats will effect your increase in skill, so if you are skilling up the buffs will be benificial. The actual sucess or failure will depend on what your skill level is.
Shadow vs Shawl
# Mar 24 2002 at 12:40 PM Rating: Default
I have both the Skyshadow Cloak and Shawl #5. The question is pointless as they take two different slots. The cloak is a back item, the shawl is a shoulder item.
What Now
# Mar 19 2002 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
I have been collecting items I knew I would need for this quest for months..and was just about to begin it when camping on Luclin 2 nights ago I and others in my group ran into a named Bat ( Skyshadow ) having never been to luclin we had no clue who he was and only conned blue to the three of us ( myself 46 Dru, 41 mage and a 35 Necro) we killed him fairly easily..and lo'n behold he had quite a spiffy lil cloak on him..

+8 Dex and Wis, levi charges and I do believe Ac of 6 my memory could be failing me on that part tho...My gracious companions allowed me to keep it as I was only wearing the Mammoth one.

Now..here is my question..Do I have a superb cloak in hand or should I still continue to quest after this no drop one?
RE: What Now
# Apr 28 2002 at 6:32 PM Rating: Decent
Well if you replaced your mammoth hide with this one then it would be a back slot item not a shoulder slot item. So, therefore there's nothing holding you back from getting the prayer shawl.
RE: What Now
# Apr 22 2002 at 2:47 PM Rating: Decent
Even if they were both the same slot (shoulder) I would still go for the preyer shawl because the final quest (runed coldain prayer shawl) has flowing thought effect...

I just got my shawl last night on my first attempt. It took about 2 hours before I had 2 Siren Hairs which was the only thing holding me back. Here were my stats for the combines:

INT 111
WIS 238 (with chanter WIS buff)
DEX 186 (with Boon of the Garou)
Tailoring 152

Combining the thread was trivial at 152 but the combine for the shawl was NOT trivial at 152.

Good luck everyone on this part of the quest!

Gratz ! lucky you :)

> It took about 2 hours before I had 2 Siren

Had 2 whiskers and a dozen manes in bank (wish both were stackable) and a beard (wish it was NOT Lore) when I decided today to head for CS and try to solo them. I killed a green one without any problem (got nuked once for 93 hp and Doted once with Suffocate, resisted all her other spells with 96 MR) before I got killed by 2 bulthars :(

Then after a quick CR (thx Ruhe who'd got his 7th shawl 3 days ago. gratz Ruhe BTW), and thanks to 2 great people (Chirine and Leniris, respectively awesome Druidess and Cleric) I got 2 hair and Leniris got 4 in 23 minutes (just checked my logs) we just couldn't believe the drop rate of hair !

Doh ! mine were
WIS 150ish (should have put my trade skill gear to try & get a skill up at least, blah !)
DEX 243
Tailoring 156 with Geerlok (so 163-164 skill)

and I failed.... sob sob... back to GD/CS to collect hair, beard & whiskers.

> Good luck everyone on this part of the quest

thanks, g'luck on 7th and 8th :)

# May 25 2003 at 3:22 AM Rating: Decent
Finally succeeded in combining the 6th shawl yesterday (5-24-03) on my second attempt with

Tailoring 167 (LoY recipes rock),
geerlok sewing contraption,
WIS 175, DEX 215 (KEI & Dexterity, not sure a high DEX's taken into account but better safe than sorry)

Now i'm off to SG/ Kael for 7th shawl.

G'luck all

Starting quest
# Jan 16 2002 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
What do you say to Loremaster Boranin (or whoever the guy is in the church that give you all these quests) to get him to give you this quest? I know you get the pattern from Betti Frostweaver, but I'm assuming you find this out from the Loremaster.
RE: Starting quest
# Feb 14 2002 at 1:19 PM Rating: Decent
Actually Betti gives you all the information you need for this quest. You don't use Loremaster Borannin after the 4th quest.
More Shawls to come
# Dec 28 2001 at 9:12 AM Rating: Decent
I heard that after Luclin came out they was going to increase the number of Shawls to 10 like the melees ring Quest. So if they do would bet the FT will increase to. But I have 56 Druid and am on 5th shawl (grrr Glowing Bile) but anyway, Mana is my Life blood, and the fact that the 7th shawl has GREAT STATS also! I just hope they do add new Shawl Quests at least give us FT3 or better 4 (havent seen a Drop Item with FT4 yet) would rock to have only way to get be QUEST .
PS already have stuff for 6th so better get back on to hunt Bile to finish my 5th ...GL all
Hmmm
# Nov 19 2001 at 2:56 PM Rating: Default
Some of the places say FT1 is a ten mana per tick item. Some say 1, can someone (without flameing like little kids) please 'clarify' this for me?
RE: Hmmm
# Nov 22 2001 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
FT1 is 1 mana per tick. Every little bit counts though. Get that, some Lord Yeli boots, a Tunare earing and you've got 6 mana regen per tick as FT1, FT2, and FT3 items stack. Its constant, and also stacks with C2, GoB, Bardsong and PoTG.

Crystalline Threads
# Oct 24 2001 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
Id just like to add that teh crystalline threads from the spiders in Velks for the 5th shawl can be combined together at tailoring skill of 51... so you dont have to lug around 75 of them until you master tailoring... just combine them as you collect them =)

More to Come
# Aug 13 2001 at 4:02 PM Rating: Decent
How anyone could think this item isn't worth the time, I will never know. I guess everyone has the right to their own opinion.

However I think some people don't realize this quest doesn't STOP at 7. Verrant will be adding 3 more quests in this series. So if you think the 7th is good, you can imagine what the 10th will be like.

This quest series is the casters version of the ring quest you see so many tanks striving to achieve. Try taking a look at the stats on the 10th ring and how much better than the 7th ring it is. You can expect a simuliar difference in the shawl series.

I personally don't expect such a great item to come easily and am more than willing to put in the effort needed until I achieve the 10th shawl(When they add it).

Increasing your wis only helps if you are trying to get a skillup. The ONLY things that effect success rate are your raw tailoring skill, and skill modifying devices, such as a geerlok.

So, for skilling up, max your wis/int. For the shawl combine, make sure you have your geerlok.
Completed

hi. id like to share my joy with you fine people. i completed the 6th coldain shawl and it is ever so worth it.

first attempt i failed :X int 220+ (not sure exactly) dex 75 (wasnt buffed at all)

after a days worth of collecting components i succeeded! int 230+ dex 75 (had a brilliance hehe)

both were at tailoring 158.

also id like to add that none of these ingrediants are hard to collect when you think about the reward. when you get a good strategy sirens are actually quite easy... and both times i hunted them the hair was about 1 in 5 drop anyway get tailoring as high as you can and just keep at it if you dont have this fine shoulder item yet.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 27 2001 at 7:54 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As long and as time consuming as this is i would rather just take my chances on a high lvl raid....as all stats can not really be used by any class. Unless you are a complete eq loser or a trade skill freak...or u just have no life u wont get a 7th level shawl.
