raid gear
# Jan 16 2006 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
if you're looking for an easy head piece for raid resists, this is it. only 2 less per save than a pricey platinum blue diamond tiara, and a piece of cake to get. and while you're in runnyeye take out the moldmaster and other nameds for other cool mid-lvl drops.

last time i dropped lord picklaw i looted the babs and the black alloy medallion. (mana pres. II) runnyeye has been good to me. )

just my 2 cents

As a human paladin, light is a serious problem for me. In addition to all of the other great things about this helmet, I think my favorite quality about this item is that it is a very powerful light source.

I twinked my new wood elf ranger with a complete suit of this stuff for 95pp. Got the whole set in the bazaar. What happened to the days when this stuff wasn't considered worthless? I guess I shouldn't complain, 95 pp for this is a steal.

# Jul 07 2002 at 4:31 PM Rating: Decent
This is a great affordable helm with great resists. Also, if you play on Rallos Zek or other servers where it is possible to lose your items via looting, this is semi- easy to get. It is a pretty common drop of Lord Pickclaw in Runnyeye, or you can buy it for around 200 pp. I can solo all of Runnyeye (40 ranger), and the drops are pretty good, especially if you want to outfit an alt with cheap AC gear, the blackened alloy drops are common and decent.

i was down with my war 55 to get this coif. at my view this is nice resist gear with stats.
i have use 3 weps down here when i was hunting. first whip of ensnaring with blood fire. after 2 procs of snare and boild blood is just easy to meele down that green stuff down. most of time after procs i switch to my 10/18 and 12/20 weapons. np to solo down here.

Fun zone!!!

My main is a 47 Mage, and I spent a cpl hours in here yesterday. Got the coif on my fist try and sold it for 300plat. Spent the rest of the day giving away the BA armor and a BABS to newbies who were the first to find me =)

I can see how this zone would be difficult for other casters with pets.. but with a masge's "Summon Companion" spell, it's not a problem at all.

I'm going to go back to this zone soon just for the heck of it. Until rude druids and rangers invade, it's quite a fun place to camp!!

I took a trip down into the lower levels of RE with my lvl 40 dwf tank. My faction was only apprehensive at the time, so nothing down there aggro'd until after I had killed Lord Pickclaw. I even dropped all the armor i was farming at the goblin bank. hehe. If you're looking to farm armor for an alt, RE is a great place to do it. 40+ you can farm Destroyers, etc for BA and BI armor all day and not take real bad faction hits. But, once you're done with the other pieces, take down lord pickclaw for the coif. I solo'd him with a Turtle Skin from my lodi boots, and a Chloroplast. Its a good idea to clear the area before hand, because once you drop lord pickclaw, you WILL be aggro to everything in RE. At the end of my run, i had a full set of BA, and lots of extra ba, and bi pieces, plus the coif to show for it. I'll probably head back in another few lvls, or if i can find a way to raise my faction there without damaging other factions i need.

For 400pp this is a great helm. My shaman wants one just for the resists. And my rogue would love this for the strength and resists. If this is the correct price. This is an item that I wouldn't sell unless all my characters(alts) had one or better. The resists are very nice for any class that can get one.

Could a 50 shaman solo this or will I need a meele partner? How is the pathing for pets in Runner eye?
<edit>
50 shaman and a 33 warrior ran entire zone all night long. Only one death against the evil eye prisoners, bad luck combo of lag, fizz, and interupts. Pets are not very good in zone, pathing is horrible. Best strategy is to park pet on level 4 and and pull to him. Got the alloy helm, grotesque alloy mask and full set of blacken alloy armor and weapons for the new tank Im starting(lol). Bank inside is life saver for obvious reasons.
Zone can be confusing though I still get lost there.

This is a GREAT helm and I've passed on buying other helms because of it. A friend gave me one of these as a Rogue Level 5, and I'm 39 now. 6SVALL and 6str is perfect for any class. I don't plan on replacing this or selling it ever. It's well underpriced, so it's going to make a good hand-me-down for a twink if I ever get to that level.

I went down with a druid about the same lvl as me (40). Im a ranger. The druid died I think because he tryed to pull him and the adds went wild. I ran for the exit. Then the druid hit the disband button. I sat healed up rebuffed waited for full mana. Went back down and pulled myself had 1 add. He got my health down but I rooted him ran to the end of the hallway rooted the add healed myself some. Medded till the root broke then finished him off got the ciof drop.

Well, me (lv 35 ranger) and this cleric (31 lv) went into Runneye we had to clear the path to the Lord, found the Lord not to far from the bank thru some double doors and in a closet room. the fight was long but we ended up beating the lord, cleric was out of mana and i was about 2 bubs from death, but we won, i got the BA Coif =), I thought it was pretty cool just the 2 of us going down and beating up on the Lord. Cleric's name was like Shotie of Hero's Blood guild, My name is Oter, on the Xev server,

SK vs. Ranger
# Jan 03 2002 at 12:14 PM Rating: Default
I have a lvl 52 SK and a lvl 49 Ranger and my Ranger just got the coif last night. I must say I did this because I was put off by the derogatory Ranger comments so I decied to see how hard it would be for my Ranger. I had no problems making my way to the Lord and killing him. But I did realize something. You must clear the dungeon first as these nuckle heads will nickle and dime you to death. In other words you must take the fight to them. If a named mob pops...kill it. When my SK was working Sol A (a significantly harder dungeon) I didn't have to worry about this.

I would also add, if you're going to solo, faster is better. I dual wield Centi Longsword's and have a Flowing Black Silk Sash.

Personally, I don't like playing my Ranger in dungeons because you're gonna get hit and Bow's become ineffective.

Kolath, for the most part, is right. Toe-toe an even lvl SK will wipe the floor with a Ranger. In a wide enough open space the Ranger may have a chance if his Archery skills are up to par.

But, in my opinion, Rangers make some of the best solo'ers. I quad kite with my Ranger in Overthere all the time.

BTW, I sold the coif for 200pp.

# Jan 04 2002 at 12:23 AM Rating: Decent
HMM well if a lvl 51 ranger did not kill lord its not cause he couldnt its cause of his lack of abilities As I am lvl 54 ranger on tunare I can go down and wipe whole fourth level without ever losing more that a 1/3 bub health if the gobbies are lucky. Maybe but since new skill caps we have recieved have found myself in the situation as being main tank many times. As since warriors of similar level or couple levels higher can not deal enough damage to keep taunt off me nad on them keep in mind thats all without taunting. I have to keep my jolt spell memmed just to keep aggro off me so that tank can do his job. But then again I solo quite well I have many times cleared the chief room at rygorr fort with no help. So anyone that says ranger cant solo is crazy. Remember rangers we are not tanks don't stand toe to toe if you don't have to hehe use the druid skills we have obtained adn use your bow and keep skills honed as you will find it will deal a lot of damage once you get high enough in lvls I currently do about 350pts damage with my bow so keep up your skills

EXCUSE ME???? rangers do not solo well? what are you talking about? If a ranger knows how to play its character, they solo extremely well. The only soloers beating rangers are SKs. Casters do not count because most can if they play their cards right. I'd like to see a monk solo things with out that funji tunic. They can, but only if they do not get hit /grin. Bah rangers aren't good soloers, grrr duel me.

+Rangers solo quite well. My RL brother has a 51 ranger and other than grouping with me (51 Treehugger) he has pretty much soloed all the way to 51. He is one damage dealing machine , His prob in a group is that he cuases to much aggro sometimes :)

RE: excuse me?
# Feb 11 2002 at 2:36 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know what Monks you're watching but so far I still don't have too much of a problem. Although maybe it's because I don't go & try to kill yellows & reds at lvl 39. Sticking to blues of almost any type (except perhaps some Velious mobs) & the occasional white if you know the situation right Monks have no problem at all.
And btw, not only do I not have a Fungi Tunic I'm untwinked...i.e., still wearing for the large part the same armor I was wearing around level 20. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will see a couple upgrades fighting in LGuk if it isn't farmed out the wazoo (Azure Sleeves, TBB &/or FBSS, Froggie Crown if a miracle happens ;) ).

Lord Picklaw story
# Nov 15 2001 at 12:34 PM Rating: Default
Went to RE with monk and rogue to camp for BA medallion and coif, had a lvl 51 ranger wonder in. The guy didn't care that we were camping the place, and went straight for the spot with the Lord. So the Lord spawns (with BABS and coif, as we later found out), I get it on track, and monk (lvl 35) goes off to pull him to us... only to find the ranger fighting him. Well, strangely enough, the ranger was losing badly. Of course, being a compassionate lizard, my friend monk offered help, but the guy, apparently thinking that he just wanted to KS, was stubbornly hacking away until he had another agro on him and so he went down (/mourn). The Lord at the time was barely scratched, so the brave monk charged in... and beat the stuffing out of him, barely losing 2 bubs of health.
How can it be, you'll ask, that a lvl 51 ranger couldn't kill something that a lvl 35 monk took down with little trouble? It's all a matter of luck, I say.
But hear me, if you go to RE, make sure you clear your path down, and keep the area clean - those greenies will poke you to death, and there's LOTS of them there.
Good luck and may the random number be with you!

There's always the other possibility: The guy playing the ranger just bought his account on eBay, and has no idea how to play the class. Also, it seems that some of these EBay accounts come almost stripped/equipped with crap weapons/armor. If you had conned him, you'd have probably found that he was wearing banded, and carrying fine steel weapons.

He was probably down there for armor/weapons upgrades, as sad as that sounds.

I agree, that 51 Ranger should have had no problem with that mob. Even with the add, if he knew what he was doing. By 51 as your main, you have some pretty decent gear, even if you are unlucky and don't raid/camp too much. Unless you are giving money/items away daily, you just have to have some *decent* stuff. Add to that by level 51 you have a total of a 20pt damage shield (pretty nice, considering every 10 times the mob hits you they take 200 damage, it effectively gives you more hp if you look at it that way). Sure, you can't bow kite, but even just meleeing until you are down to half health, then root/dot/nuke you should be able to take that mob easily.

RE: Lord Picklaw story
# Nov 28 2001 at 10:06 AM Rating: Default
I don't think that it is so much a matter of luck, as much as strategy. Rangers and Soloing, as far as I can tell, do not mix, mainly because of defensive caps and Armor choices that Rangers have. Although Rangers are definately able to deal damage (as most duel wielding mobs are able to do), they should not be placed in the situation of taking the brunt of damage. Myself (lvl 35 at the time), a warrior who was apx lvl 34, and a wizzy apx the same level as the Warrior. Although we had a relatively easy time with the lord, and our faction was not bad enough at the time to have nasty agro's, we still took a fair amount of damage between the Warrior and Myself.
Be CAREFUL while in dungeons like runnyeye. These greenies are aggressive, and will not care if you con red to them. I have wandered through this dungeon, picked up and agro, was doing okay until a casting gobbie jumps in, and I find myself running to a place that I think I can FD safely. Some of these Goblins do NOT like to wander away from a FD toon.
If you are an SK over 35, and you find yourself in a situation like this, hide comes in very very handy. FD, then Hide while on the ground. You can stand, then sit, and you are in med heaven. You can get yourself to full life, then formulate a strategy for how to get yourself out of a situation like that. If yuo have to, run, fd, repeat.
Good hunting friends!

Oh, and as far as soloing goes, it depends on the situation. Rangers can go from 1-60 soloing, if they know how to do it. Once rangers get panic animal at 22(?), any animal that snare and that will stick on is theirs for the killing. Once you have level 45 and a tolans bracer (right click summon arrows) and a tolans guantlets (right click snare), effectively you can bow kite ANY mob that snare will stick to that dosen't summon. Of course adds, etc will prevent this, but it is possible. Pretty much any mob that you can snare (non caster) can be killed if you have the patience. It is all about NOT being hit.

your goal should be to get your STR as HIGH as humanly possible, to the expense of your dex and agil if necessary. high dex is great, but when you get down to it, it not as important as str. high agil would be nice in an ideal world, but is not practical considering your other directives, and any gains should be largely incidental.KILL!!!! and evade once in a while.
efreeti war bow
# Oct 12 2001 at 10:08 AM Rating: Default
Okay, this is in responce to Mr Warder with the "rotting" efreeti war bow in the bank.

Have you looked at the bow stats corectly?????
According to Allakhazam and Aoenla Darkwood's fletching guild it is
Damage: 40
Delay: 100.

Being a ranger of only the 19th season, that sounds pretty decent,
then add in the haste?

Now if you;
root
snare
flame lick
(yes it is a low level spell but it is a debuff, and if we get a better one later on..well then just use that one)
shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot....
and repeat a few times

you could possibly do, and this quote is from a Disiple that has witnessed
the damage one could do with the bow, around 12k dam in a relatively short amount of time. Any mob that I know of will be most unhappy to be on the receiving end of this kind of damage.

Regards to you sir.

I was alone for 5 or 6 days. Only one in the entire zone. That was marvellous. I got like 8 BABS, 4 BALS, 15-20 BAMs, 6-7 BACs and 2 Masks. Not to mention the PBBs off the evil eyes. And as I tell you, I was alone the entire time. Count 800pp per Medallion, 600 per BABS and 300 per BALS. Sold many coifs for 1100pp as well. All I have left is 1 BABS, 1 BALS, 1 Coif. I also got some Sporali stuff, but it sucked... I made a lot of money. I should have kept one Medallion, wanted to go back HEHE, forget it, there were like 30 people down there, average lvl 40. That was ridiculous. So much for the medallion. Now in Kelethin I see medallions go for 500pp LOL, I was selling them at 800pp. Oh well. I made tons of cash, got myself GEBs Runed Cowl, Crystalline Robes and much more.
