Taking forever.....
# Jun 11 2002 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
I am a level 45 Warrior, and have been soloing down here for a number of days now trying to get this mask, and am having nothing but bad luck! I can clear all the areas, and I kill all the Destroyers (which near as I can tell are the placeholders), but no Lord Piclaw! I have had several Battelords which don't hit me that much, tho they have decent number of Hit points. I have gotten some tough caster dude Brother Uniak to spawn a few times. But no Lord! It's getting frustrating. I'm going to keep at it a while longer, because I really want the mask, but this seems to be in my experience a very long camp. :(

Come on guys,
My friend and I (both lvl 35 pallies) took control of the whole zone within one hour. The battle wiz and Pick Lord were both of them on us at the same time. We rooted them both, waited for one root to break, pulled the Lord away out of aggro range of the battle wizz and we knocked him unconcious. We are not that well equiped, only a few good items here and there, but we had both some good weaps to kill it (20 40 2hp).
Quite frankly the battle wiz went down even faster so I think that the zone is over conned. The only real problem we had in Runy was the 2 evil eye prisoners. We aint that well suited to go against 2 casters at same time and they forced us to zone out. But no real worries, we still had LOH up. We rebuffed endure magic and came back down to poke those two uglies.
Runy is a good place to equip with a BABS, a BALS a medallion and the coiffe. I also noticed that although the groteske mask drops my cha by 15, it adds tremendous dexterity and makes my ghoulbane procs more often. Go hunt there. equip your char or your alts with a BABS or a BALS, dont buy them, 2 pallies lvl 35 partnered the whole zone without real concern. We havent tried the moldmaster yet, he didnt spawn while we were there. But we will meet again...I need those sporali gloves.

CHA + fear and charm
# Sep 13 2001 at 10:33 AM Rating: Good
I think where some of you get confused is that
CHA is not simply a persons appearance. CHA is their personal magnetism , their charm , likeability , will power. Intangible things which make a person follow another persons directions or take their orders. Hitler was not an attractive man by conventional norms but he subjugated a lot of this planet with his evil will. I have read that it was his oratory that gave him his power.
place him behind a microphone in front of acrowd and he could make them walk through fire. Was he evil? Certainly.. but a high CHA will make someone more likeable regardless of appearance , race or religion while a person with low CHA is a sure fire bet to **** people off.. naturally abrasive etc.. Charm , Fear and other behavioral spells are simply you exerting your will over another creatures and forcing them to do your bidding. High CHA should help you to be successful with any of the spells which which effect another "Toons" behavior. Did Verant code them all that way? I do not think so. Do some of the spells work that way? Yes they do. An actual amount of benefit per CHA point would be difficult to measure as each tick the mob gets a resistance check to see if they wake up, pull free, bust loose from most behavior altering spells. Some spells have a set duration after the initial resistance check while others are a minimum then check for continued effect each tick. (A tick is not a second in the same way a unit of encumberence is not a pound or a stone . Both are Verant derived units )Someone with a lot of free time and who is good at statistical analysis could figure out the time effect of each addition or subtraction from a characters CHA but I do not have that math background.
Sorry for such a long post but just wanted to clarify what a persons CHA actually is... and looks are only a small part.
RE: CHA + fear and charm
# Jun 24 2002 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
I've read in multiple post that while high cha does help mez and charm, low cha will increase fear duration. That would explain why alot of high end necro gear lowers cha. I haven't taken the time to test this yet. I'm wondering if anyone else has.
And before you say it, I know this isn't necro wearable. The discourse on cha caught my eye.

Keep reading OUGLY =P, Hitler was a good orator But people were not informed or educated, so thats why he had such power over the litl people.
My suggestion is keep in mind that tiz just a game so Leave Hitler out of this! geez
RE: CHA + fear and charm
# May 26 2004 at 10:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hitler is many people's favorite example of an extremely charismatic leader who was not attractive. He also gets the most virulent reaction. As an alternative I offer (but do not necessarilly endorse):

Jimmy Swaggart
Oral Roberts
Most televangelists
George W. Bush (flames expected ... I am merely pointing out that he is not attractive, but seems to be able to enthrall the masses)
Pope John Paul II
Dr. Ruth Westheimer
Henry Kissenger (I always see him being photographed with seriously babe-a-licious women)
Woody Allen

and last, but not least, my favorite, whom I strongly endorse:
Mahatma Gandhi

--------

Back to the topic:
I love fear kiting and have done it with 4 characters, necro, enchanter, and 2 clerics (this does not include animal fear kiting)

I find not much difference between fear duration or effectiveness with my enchanter (high CHA) and my necro (70ish CHA). My necro does a lot of backup mezing in LoDNs and has a lot of trouble with his mez being resisted. I am working on getting him a tradeskill trophy to see how the 50 CHA affects him.

I have a cleric with 120 CHA (Erudite with tradeskill trophy) and one with 35 CHA (dwarf with Griffon eye). My dwarf has more WIS and his fears hardly ever stick and don't last long. My erudite has no problems with fear... rarely resisted and does not wear out fast. Both are within 2 levels of each other (on seperate accounts for rezes) at all times.

That is my experience ... I'll let you draw your conclusions.

Too sensitive! Wow! The illustration was correct and the extremity of the illustration does make the point. Charisma is why he had power over the little people. What is educated anyway? Are we more or less educated now? People still follow evil people no matter how educated because a person with high charisma does exactly what mankind wants...

- they make us feel more important than others
- they make us feel that we ARE the cause
- they make us feel that WE belong to a group and that we are loved and needed
- they make us feel that we are special and superior than those that we are against
- they make us feel that we have an important destiny
Finally, in doing all of this, THEY STROKE OUR EGOS.

This happens every day. This happens no matter how educated you are because EVERYONE wants to be flattered, loved, and feel part of the bigger group. Some people feel validated in a more twisted way than others due to personal psychosis, but it is in our nature to all want these common goals. That is what makes us human. We make education. Education does not make US!

I hope you're not suggesting that people in the 1930s were uneducated. I think they might disagree. A lot of very educated people were taken in by Hitler's rhetoric.

Not a chance. He's basically a Hill Giant strength MoB. Hits for 80+ and has a ton of HPs. If you had a cleric of equal level there with you, I think you could take him fairly easily.

Actually
The named goblins spawn any place Destroyers spawn.

The first destroyer spawns in the room with the old giant snakes, above the room with brewing barrels.

The Furthest spawn is in the tunnels behind the Banker who is in the same location.

So, kill any goblins between those areas and you can force a spawn.

Lord pickclaw drops the Alloy Crown, a sword or regular piece of alloy and a random normall loot.

Battlewizzard drops the medalion (i have heard, though he had nothing the 3 times i killed him)

Cavalier drops the Blackend iron ******* sword.

Warlord drops the alloy longsword and alloy armour as common.

Mindrippers drop the Cat skull cap

Bonemenders drop the fractued feumer

Janitors drop the vile substance

Note: if you tread on the mud piles in the Sporali area they will pop a few little spores, with a lovely emote.. well worth treading on them for that.

There are NO BA Boots, however the Blackened Iron boots are the same AC as banded, however much lighter. I got my set last night in EC at the tunnel. Paid 20pp. I am not sure I want to finish out the BA armor though. The mask does not sound that appealing.

Settling Something once and for all
# Jun 04 2001 at 1:04 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry about the off-topic nature of this post, but I have to make this clear. As a 55th lvl Necromancer, I know a bit about fear and what affects it. CHA does not, has not, and will NEVER affect fear spells. I want to repeat that for those who can't get it through their thick skulls. CHA DOES NOT AFFECT FEAR SPELLS. The only thing that affects fear is Magic Resistance, PERIOD. Please dont respond to this and tell me I am wrong. You will only be making youself look more foolish. This mask has decent stats other than the neg cha, MR is always nice.

I've read alot about the matter as well and am pretty sure that he's right.
The only thing that affects the effectiveness of FEAR type spells is MR. For example i have had a Shaman cast Malise on the Aligators before i panic animal them, and with the malise i notice my panic animal tends to go to the full 18 secs almost all the time. When i camp out and try it again except this time with a ShadowKnight casting fear, results were indicative that the more resistant to magic a creature was the shorter the fear lasted.

Ok hereon it's just speculation, but is it possible to Fear yourself? If it is, then try dumping all the MR gear you have, fear yourself and then duel someone and get him to reduce your MMR to almost 0 and see how long it sticks. Haven't tried it yet coz i'm at the office but it might be a thing for you guys to try.

I will second his opinion. I was playing with a 1 (One) Charisma for quite a while, and Fear continued to be very effective for me. Since swapping out my EQ back up to 45, I have seen no additional improvement.

saw the lord killed twice today. Once he dropped a Blackened allow long sword and a blackened alloy coif. The second time, he dropped the sword, a blackened alloy medalian, and Blackened alloy gaunts of some sort (did not catch exact name). All in all, the stats were basically blackened iron on crack... Most of it was pritty sweet loot, considering the level of the zone. Unfortunately, i did not win the roll on any of this stuff =(... I assume that the lord drops random peices of BA. From chatting with other people, i have found extremly conflicting reports on what was common and what was rare. Therefore i am guessing that its just luck on what people got... Good luck to you all...

Yea, except for the fact that High Charisma helps with fears, not low charisma. Yea, Yea, I know... It defies logic. But it does actually work that way. Ask an enchanter to join you for fear kiting one day Jegon, you'll notice that his fears are resisted less and last alot longer.

# Sep 22 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Excellent
*buzzer* Ehh, wrong. How can you make such a generalization? Have you ever played an enchanter with -50 cha to prove your theory? I can say that stripping my chanter of all her +cha gear (leaving her with a base of 97 cha) I see absolutely no difference in how well fear sticks or the duration which it holds than when she is wearing her full gear (193 cha.) The differences you speak of only deal with the class of the person casting. Group with a necro to see my point (notorious for low charisma but known inherently as the masters of fear.)

Common drop?
# May 31 2001 at 10:44 PM Rating: Good
The rare mobs in this zone use all other mob types as their placeholder. Essentially the lord can spawn ANYWHERE in the lower levels where the King used to be.

I dont think the BA Armplates are his common drop though. I realy dont think he has a a common drop. We killed him 3 times last night and got 6 different pieces of BA (gaunts, boots, bracer, medalion x2, & girdle. No mask though.

I must say though this is a nice mask. Any MR is usefull.

Drops off Lord Pickclaw - the Lord now drops upgraded version of all the things the old King used to - Medallion, Mask, BABS, and his common drop is a pair of BA armplates.
He spawns randomly on the 4th level - I've seen him in the rooms in the SW corner as well as in the circular "wood room".

In 3 kills, he dropped 3 sets of armplates
First kill he dropped medallion and sword
Second dropped mask and fire emerald
Third dropped just the coif.

Lord Pickclaw ousted the former Goblin King to seize what is now known as the Liberated Citadel of RunnyEye.

Liberated prolly because the Pickclaws 'freed' the RunnyEye gobbos from the tyranny of the Evil eyes and King Xxorb. The Goblin King was executed due to being the puppet king for the Evil Eyes.

Heh,... little do they know that we Elves, Humans, Barbarians and other races love that Pickclaws are really good at smithing. Must be a racial ability (like Iksars start off with 100 simming skill) That and their cutural armour (Blackened alloy) is waaay better than ours. Now if only they teamed up with the Fire gobbos so that they can refine their smelting process... maybe even make Blackened Titanium Alloy Plate Armour. OOooooo 25Ac for a breastplate and weighs 1.0 stones wearable by All/All. You betcha that the entire Ashen Order and kin will make RunnyEye their new armoury.
