Forgot to mention the battlewizard is a slight undercon. Tore a 40 rogue apart before multiple people helped him. Nukes for 240 as often as possible (got 5 off on me one fight)
Battlewizard tore me up pretty good. He was hitting me for about 181pts a pop with his spell, & cast it quite a few times. Dropped me to 2 of 5 bubbles of health (52nd lvl druid) I saw the Lord 5 times in 5hrs and the Battlewizard Once. He dropped the BAM wich adds as much mana as the Velium Black Sapphire Necklace I was wearing. That fact plus the AC and INT was a no brainer for me to keep.
Lord dropped the Coif 4 out of the 5 times he was killed.
Lol whatever, this gives 5wis which is, at level 52 the same thing as 50.4mana, velium black sapphire necklace gives 65mana and 65which is alot better, and to a druid int is 100% useless in all cases.
However, this is likely to be a darn sight cheaper than Velium Black Sapphire, probably by a factor of 10. I'll also be using one of these when I am working on my tradeskills, since the 200 cap doesn't really seem to apply to skill rises.
Wisdom helps in exactly the same way Int helps, the higher of the two is used in calculations. And for a druid, I would hope the wisdom is higher... so int is useless.

As a Troll Warrior I have had the problem of trying to raise my tailoring skill recently. After killing many a spider to get silk I combined maybe 50 of them and got maybe 10 points. Then a druid friend of mine asked why I was killing spiders and when he heard he let me barrow his wisdom iteams. with over 120 in Wisdom I succeeded on almost every attempt and got a skill increase almost every other attempt. So yes Wisdom is checked for success and increase. Int, if higher, would logicly sub for it.
The higher of wisdom and int will indeed be what is used to evaluate your chance of a raise in skill. Wisdom does not however increase your chance of a successfull combine. I suggest you check out the web site WWW.EQTRADERS.COM for one definitive site to do with trade skills. I myself have done trade skills in many characters, from wisdom (with bonuses) from 70 to 230+ and over much time doing so, I am certain that this is correct. Yes, in game many people say wisdom will help in not failing a combine, however this is simply not true. I would suggest that you might wish to try over a more extended period of time, with a greater variety of wisdom vs skill levels and see for yourself. I wish wisdom did help more, would love to not fail trivial items with JC of 250 time and again like can happen, even with 190 wis (my jeweler is maxed in skill and only used for jewelcraft since I optimised him for wisdom (originally I listened to the opinion about wis and combine successes) I do not play him as my play enchanter just my JC one.. I keep his wisdom at 189 most times and failure rates are not apreciably lower than if I let his wis drop to 100 or so..
As for the skill raises almost every other attempt that is indeed 'normal' for very high int/wis stats when learning skills. within the variation of skill level vs max level possible and difficulty being attempted.. All in all just do what you think works, however my opinions are (like yours were) based on experience with the system.. again, check out WWW.EQTRADERS.COM for their opinions, I would happily say that the accumulated wisdom on that site, is far more representative than my extensive experience, or any other isolated incidents.
Not common. This board will need editing as info comes in. Only heard 2oocs of this item dropping in the 6+hours i participated in the pillaging of new Runnyeye. Both times off Battlewizard Ulak (sp?), however he does not drop it everytime. Killed him 3 times myself and got coin. Battlewizard and most of named gobbies now seem to have random spawn points in the bank/merchant vincinity. Very nice upgrade to the old BIM, suspect will be heavily farmed for caster twinks and such.

I must of got to level 57 without ever looting anything because I have never used an OOC to tell people. And please stop going "Ding" every level, I know you do.
