Because it's a ranged slot item that adds 35 to your fire resistance... That IS a big deal when you fight creatures that kill you without touching you :). I assume, since there's a Blue one that adds cold, that there is one stone for each resistance.

If you read what the Verant spokespeople have been saying, you will see them talking about being unable to increase the overall power of characters. Instead they are making items that make characters more powerful in certain situations. This is one such item.

Lets see, a range item that gives plus 1 too all stats and "35" to 1 resist. I think thats badass
