how many people here can even hunt cb yet? sheesh any guild who can hunt ntov have their own ways of handing out the candies =) btw anyone who will use this item deserves it posting here on why you should get this item is insanly pointless
This would most likely be givin to a Pal/SK in the event of dropping on a ToV raid... followed by all the wis then int casters... what kind of a guild would award this to a monk for its effect and weight alone, at that level you should have a fishbone earring and tink bags anyway.
So the fact that it has 30AC, 20STA and 50HPs means that Tanks really shouldn't want it?
Why on earth would this be considered a caster item first? A Warrior would get a hell of a lot more HPs off this than a caster would get mana. Especially with the new STA capping over 300.
I hate newbie monks so much, they give high level monks such a bad name on these boards, its bad enought the damn twinks are ******** the class in-game. I would never, ever think about touching this sheild for pulling, its junk to me. Give it to a class that can put it to good use like anyone that cannot duel weild.
You don't like hp and ac while pulling? 40hp + 20 stamina = 180 hps at level 60 (if my calculations are correct)!! ac...30 ac+ 10agility= about 34 ac! thats base ac not calculated so Good god if this isnt good for pulling I dont know what is?
Not to mention the fact that it has EB, some dex and nice saves ;).
This item would be great on anyone but I fail to see why this is a better sheild then back item. "the damn twinks are ******** the class" is that you?
This item has been changed and upgraded. Dropped for us on 8/5/01. Its now:
Net of the Deep Sea Lore Magic No Drop All/All Slots: Secondary Back 30 AC +20 Sta +7 Dex +15 Agi +50 HP +50 Mana +10 SvC +10 SvF Effect: Enduring Breath
K, hopefully, any Pally or SK that took part in the raid that this item dropped in wouldn't want it. Think about it; Paladin - By then should have their Fiery Avenger or hopefully Fiery Defender. These are 2hs weapons, why would they swap out an Epic for some 1hs and a shield?!?! Shadowknights - Same thing, hopefully their Epic (Innoruuk's Kiss, I believe it's called?) which is also a 2hs. If they don't have their Epic, then they prolly have some other high end 2hs, specially since SK's get a BONUS to 2hs. If anyone who plays a Pally or SK would think otherwise, by all means post and let me know. =) I'm still firm on the belief that, being an ALL/ALL item, anyone who wants in on the roll should be allowed. It's nodrop, what are they gonna do? Head over to EC and sell it? But, seriously, I'm not trying to flame here, if anyone who plays one of these classes thinks it'd be good for em at high level, post and let me know why. The more I learn from ppl about their class, the better I can play with them in a group. =)

/sigh 8 months played with this character...I should be 55 by now. =\
This is of course an amazing shield and I agree with a previous poster that shields come in handy when you need to keep taunt. As an sk you have an array of spells to keep the taunt but it's more satisfying to be able to deal some damage at the same time and not just be confined to chain casting Shadow Vortex. I would however pass on this shield considering there are two or so drops in ToV for sk's only with far greater ac if it wasn't for one thing, the enduring breath. Usually you have to give up a good item when fighting in underwater zones to get that eb item in but this shield would prevent that. Of course, at level 55 sk's get Bobbing corpse, a self only version of the dmf that lasts for a little over an hour. Being in ToV you are over level 55. I'd say a pallie could use it best considering the above. Hehe, excuse the indecision here, the bobbing corpse thing came to me as I was writing this post, I was going to say that sk's could use this to great effect but I changed my mind. About the only ones not in need of this are sk's and warriors =)
Agree. I, being an SK myself, gladly swap between my best 2hander and my sword of pain and shield. When you're tanking (or in my case need the resists off the shield lol) using a 2hander is pure stupidity. the extra ac is *very* noticable.
The reason one would want this item is simple. All situations are different and being able to prepare for them is essential. Being able to readily re-equip and adjust stats to fit any situation is why people aquire many different suits to wear. Its all about the stats.
If you are able to pick up an item like this as a pally you would also likely be able to get yourself a Velium Blade of Superiority. A beautiful 1HS that has stats rivaling the FD/FA and in combination with this sheild you would wind up with 20 more AC than using a FD. Seeing as how we pally's are more of damage absorbers than dealers, 20AC makes a big difference. Therefor any intelligent palladin would be more than glad to pick up one of these.
WAY late post, but who knows when peeps may read this....
I am a Shadowknight. I would kill for this shield (heh!). Why, you ask? When I am nontank in group I use 2HS 37/45 and deal nice damage without aggro.
When I solo or tank I use my Shard of Night 21/24 piercer and a shield -- I deal insane damage especially with haste stacked on my fbss. Also, I may use SoN/shield if we have to interrupt a lot of casters.

The fact that you say that chanters should stick to "Alacrity" tells me right away you're probably a newbie around 30-35 because if you were high level enough you'd know the names of the REAL haste buffs (VoG, SS, AQ, WR).
Now that that's out of the way I'll respond.
First off I'm assuming you play a cleric. Secondly I'm assuming you only play with moronic chanters who think the only 2 things to do are buff and nuke.
The "job" of enchanters is to make impossible things possible...or make possible things extremely easy.
If it's a single uber mob like a dragon or dain or whatever then our job is to sit back and buff the tanks and clerics and wizards.
If it's a planes-type raid with lots of mobs at a time our job is to keep the crowds in check so that the tanks don't get beat on from twenty sides.
If it's a regular 6-man group our job is to just make everything move fast so that the xp flows in steadily.
Above all, however, the job of the enchanter is to adapt and be ready for -whatever- is needed of him in any situation. Just a couple days ago I was in Temple of Veeshan...we got jumped by a wurm when we weren't really ready (clerics and wizards lom)...the AE took out all our wizards and several of our tanks but the mob was almost dead (I was very much alive thx massive amounts of resists and runes). So i whipped out my "crappy" ench nuke and nuked the mob a couple times (last tank or 2 were almost dead) and we survived...so even our crappy lil nukes have use sometimes.
Next time do some homework and play a chanter into the mid-high 50s before you try and tell US what OUR job is. Thx much.
Kaelyn "The Fashion Crusader" Shields 60th Phantasmist of Xev Grey Council "Looks are everything!"
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The Enchanters WILL get agged on, period. With their debuffs, messes, stuns, etc. being MASSIVE taunts, the Chanters need every little bit of AC they can get. And an Enchanter is not an "Accessory," any more than a Cleric is. I play a Cleric as my main, and in most places (Especially indoor hunting) I will not join a group without a Chanter. And why is that? Take the Temple of Cazic Thule for example. While a group may be able to hold their own in there without a Chanter, they certainly will have more trouble without one. And what's this about "YOUR" mana? I don't believe this, would you like the casters in your groups referring to your weapons as "THEIRS?" Perhaps you could give me your swords and daggers after the battles, I could go sell them to make a tidy profit. I could go get some nice Wis gear, to increase YOUR mana pool. Frankly, Chanters are a necessity in many situations. Try going on a Plane Raid without them. And most Clerics you meet will back up the Chanters, just as I have here. Clerics and Chanters are necessities for any raid. The Enchanter's job, my friend, is to control the crowds. Their haste buffs are a wonderful bonus, along with breeze/clarity. Actually, keeping the Cleric Claritied is just a tad more important than keeping the tank hasted. Were I in the tank's situation, I'd tell the Chanter to keep Clarity on the Cleric above keeping Alacrity on me (And yes, I also play a melee class as my second character). You're just being stupid, telling someone else how they have to play their class. Go kack a Fire Beetle.
Perhaps you missed the part about it being NO DROP. I am not sure how you would use this at your current level of 34, since it is a high-end item to obtain. Unless you know something I don't, you will most likely have duel wield before this shield. And you won't be soloing much at the higher levels as a shaman anyway - unless you are twinking another character. Most "good stuff" drops from big MoBs unfortunately and I doubt you will want to solo it.
I don't know if this is a truly great item for anybody... I would say that pure casters should use infinite void and pretty much every other class has a better item that is easier to get by the point Koi'Doken is killable. Of course, this COULD be an upgrade... but that person would probably be lagging behind on his/her equipment. 40 hp and 10 agi aren't gonna save my weenie chanter behind when I am getting relatively weenie double 300+s laid on me... dunno too many chanters that could stand up to that =P. Eh, all you're doing by that point is runing the main tank anyhow. *shrug* so you die =P.
Hey, at least it's got a cool name =P
You will not evade me Tiraniv! -Test server janitor
Yeah, the big question is whether or not it's better than an orb of the infinite void. I believe it actually gives more HP than the orb, because of the large +sta on the net. So you're really trading off a few ac for resists. In that area of ToV, cold resist is used a lot, so I think it's preferrable to an orb for a caster that doesn't tank much - like a wizard. Went to a wizard when it dropped for us, in any case.
Actually, AC is divided on that. *Armor* AC lets you take less damage, while *Agility* Ac lets you not get hit as often. This is why monks, whenever they DO get hit, usually take a lot of damage, as opposed to, say, an identical level warrior with the same armor class, but lower AGI. The warior will get hit more often, but take less damage per hit.
Excuse, I just felt the need to point out, this is All/All, so, why the need to cut someone out, Let everyone who CAN get into TOV and CAN fight and kill this mob equally use this item. For the rest of you who are complaining and saying this is for my class not yours cause I need it more, wait till your actually able to *GET* this item before you try and boss everyone around. Everything in TOV is uber, cause it's an uber zone, why you think FOH Farms it daily? I'm currently a member of a midsize guild (20 50+'s) and we still don't have a chance in hell of getting this deep in TOV. So my request is, please don't post here about how you deserve it more than others, because the fact is, anyone who *CAN* *GET* this item *DESERVES* it.
Actually i wouldn't say a duel wielding melee class deserves it since most likely they will never use it *knocks posters head* think before you speak sheesh
Well, any dual wielding melee would PROBABLY not want to roll on it then, since they would never use it. But if they for some wierd reason did, why SHOULDN'T they be able to roll on it? ALL/ALL means ALL/ALL!! I sure as hell wouldn't take one with either my Rogue or Monk, though. =P Why waste a slot that I can put a weapon in?
Despite the AC, most tanks would prefer to have one of the shields from this area.... The mana addition, with the saves, does make it a nice caster Shield. AC never hurts either, since they *do* get hit from time to time.

This is a great shield, but I doubt any duel weilding classes would use it enough for them to get it, you never see rangers/warriors/rogues/etc. using a shield instead of another weapon. The stats on this are phenomenal, IMO, for casters like enchanters and necro's, clerics, shaman, and tanks like sk's and pally's. Basically anyone who takes hits that aren't designed to (enc and clr), needs as much hp as possible to convert to mana (nec and shm) or dont duel weild (pal and shd). Although I would hope most of the shd and pal at this point are either done or close to finishing their epics which are 2h's and wont use shields as much. The only classes that continue to use shields at high levels and after getting epics are int and wis casters. Great shield either way.
Better paladin, cleric, shaman, druid, and shadowknight shields drop commonly in this area. In fact, the north wing of ToV is basically the land of shields. I've seen most classes have -two- class specific shields (paladins may be up to three, I don't remember), as well as barrier of sound and whitestone shield. Pretty much all of em have better. I think it's slightly better than an orb of the infinite void with its hp bonus (20 sta + 40hp < 75 hp for a caster? Dunno) and resists useful in that part of ToV.
I much prefer my barrier of sound - but at least it looks like a buckler. Unique look on a caster, I believe.

I'm going to say that this item is best for Clerics, Rogues, Monks, and Druids. Coincidentally all the classes I happen to play! If anyone doesn't like it, they suck! No one should be allowed to roll against me! And...I only want the EB effect!! ***** the other stats, no matter how superior they are, no matter what other items I can get easier with EB, I want THIS one!! Everyone! FLAME ME FOR MY POST!! This item will only do MY characters good, it's worthless for anyone else! No Resses/Buffs/SoW's to anyone who disagrees with me!! Argue, people, argue!! bicker amongst yourselves, and let me fuel the fire with my sarcasm!!
One player from each class step into the Arena. LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!! To the winner: The rights to claim this item is for that class alone. /sarcasm off You guys done bickering over every item that pops up yet?

Posted:May 25 2001 at 2:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) enc doesnt need ac or hp at all since they are not tanks, and they dont make em live any longer if naggy comes scratching em.
Do you understand how everquest works? Enchanters at high levels dont need Int. They have very nice Int buffs. Enchanters at High lvls Dont need Cha. Once again they have very nice Cha buff. Both of those are covered by lvl 50. and mana? They have clarity. Besides buffs they dont use much mana, and what they use they can recover from the mob if its a caster.
What the Ench is doing is tanking all the mobs the monk decided to pull. Enchanters do not have high defense skills like paladins, and shadow knights do. I want any enchanter I group with to stay alive as long as possible. To do that he needs to tip the scales in his favor as much as possible. Add lots of HP lots of AC. There is no other way to do it. Do you feel clerics are tanks? No but they sure as hell need the ac also. Druids? A druid in full mana gear , or even resist gear has less of a chance of getting off an evac than one in ac gear. Tanks Jobs are to take damage. Your job is to get hit as much as you can, you need ac. But since your Job is to take damage does that mean a weapon you can use should be defaulted to rangers or even rouges because there job is to do damage?
You really must not know what you are talking about...
In a normal one group situation, there are basically two people that get hit: The warrior, and the enchanter. When the warrior is getting hit, the cleric can cast slow and efficient heals like celestial elixer and complete healing. But if the enchanter is getting hit, the cleric basically has to chain cast remedy, which is grossly inefficient. And if there are three or four mobs hitting the enchanter, he may not be able to get it under control before he is dead.
More AC makes your spells interupt less, besides making you take less damage. Less interupts mean it's easier to get mezs and stuns off.
Basically the same goes for many group situations.
While this is a nice Enchanter item, an orb of the infinte void is probably a bit better one albiet it lacks resists. More ac, 5 int, 75 hps amnd mana, and a heck of a lot easier to get
Would think that this would rock if it was to be a bow or something like that, snare, whatever. really should have bolas, maybe if even for those looser monks (hehe, i love trolling). This item would go best for someone who needs it! so stop ******** about who it would be the best for!

Posted:May 24 2001 at 7:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This should be a Enchanter item. Enc need ac and hp so much.. 40 hp and 20 sta also 30 ac is very nice to them.
Well, the trouble with this item for a pure caster is that the off-hand usually gives you a *lot* of your mana stat. I realize that over a 200 int or wis doesn't gain you much (1 mana per point up to 250, I'm told,) but can you afford to lose the 10 points (at least) of int or wis you're gaining from your off-hand?
If so, then sure, I'd say this is great for any caster, particular Enchanters who are so screwed in hit points. If not, then I would think this would be best for a hybrid, particularly a Paladin or SK. They get use from the mana, don't lose a weapon slot.
Of course, this is also avoiding the obvious. Its handy for anyone who doesn't have an Enduring Breath item.
No caster there really needs any more int, and generally has quite a bit to spare. For example, I'm still trying to trade off more int (I'm at 208) for AC/HP... but just not having much luck getting items to do that. A few items are just wonderful for that, but typically are better for monks, so I'd stand aside on em.
well, if a magician has their epic, then they can afford to give up the 10 int in the off hand. the mage epic has 25 int on it and it is a primary hand. we need the ac for when stuff gets past our pets and sta is our secondary stat
If this is counted as a shield, then it's most definately great for Paly's. If not bash capable (and honestly, even though I'd love it to be, it shouldn't be) then it's only ok for Paly's. Enchanters...you really see this as a great item for you? (serious, not flaming)
Ive got about as much AC as a level 20 ranger, and I'm a 40 Enchanter. I don't have much uber equip that gives me AC as well as int and charisma, but at higher levels when stuff gives you 10 or more int on each peice and stuff, you can afford to lose some of your int equip for ac+hp items. So yes, while this would be good on lots of classes, it is good on enchanters too. I doubt you can say who its best on, because all all stuff is versatile and can be used differently in many situations. For example a monk wearing a sheild or something for extra ac when pulling. This is gettin kinda long, later
I play a level 51 iksar monk on Torv and know a great deal about my class. No monk in his/her right mind would use this item. If you're high enough level to get this item, then you should be able to get a shield of rainbow hues which is A LOT better for pulling.

Posted:May 25 2001 at 12:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok I let this go at first because I thought it was silly but now its starten to get on my nerves. Why exactly do monks assume that everything low weight should go to them? Or that every good item should have its weight droped and monks included? Yes monks are important and without them most "uber" raids would fail but the same is true if no clerics or enchanters showed up. And remember folks only takes about 2 monks to run most uber raids how many clerics do you think you need? Get over yourselves already.

Posted:May 25 2001 at 2:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Praps ye should stop assuming that the people posting on these boards speak for all monks? Most of them don't even play a monk and, those that do, will probably never even inspect somebody with these high end items. Obviously anyone posting just to complain about an item is below the intelligence level to act as a representative of everyone who plays their class. Besides, if you read this post you would notice this person was saying the item shouldn't go to monks.

I agree. The only reason any monk would use a shield is the short time while pulling, and in that situation its all about AC and RESISTS. 10 FR and CR just doesnt cut it for that purpose.
