best places to forage

I've foraged many hundreds of these in every foragable zone, and by far the two best places are the cities of Thurgadin and Kael Drakkel. These two cities have nearly identical forage tables, and both provide Tufts of Dire Wolf Fur at exactly the same rate. Here is what you can get from most common to least:

Glob of Slush Water (very common)
Acrtic Mussels (common)
Arctic Scallops (common)
Tuft of Dire Wolf Fur (less common)
Chunk of Velium (Thurgadin) and Arctic King Crab (Kael) (rarer)
Roots (quite rare)
Pod of Water (very rare)

7 foragable items. Every other zone has at least 9. Plus, 2 of them are very rare, and hardly ever come up. So it's almost as if there are only 5 foragable items, which means Tuft's come up quite often.

If you are not KoS in Kael, or can Hide, then I recommend foraging there. The Arctic King Crab is stackable. The Chunk of Velium which come from Thurgadin are not. You can quickly fill up your available inventory slots in Thurgadin for those of you which AFK forage (shame on you! :-). Of course, if you are not AFK can destroying the velium anyway, the two zones are identical from the perspective of foraging for Tufts.

I don't have a firm statistical analysis, but basically roots are about twice as common as pods of water, but still both quite rare (2% to 4% or so). Globs of Slush Water are by far most common, perhaps 30%. Then Mussels and Scallops are both about 20%, and Tufts around 16%, and Chunk of Velium (Thurgadin) or Arctic King Crab (Kael) around 10% or so. The water is worthless (other than for a drink), but the mussels, scallops, and crab can all be sold at vendor.

still drops?

Can anybody please confirm if this still drops? There is a discrepancy between this site and EQTraders, this says the EW dire wolves drop them, 'Traders says that the Iceclad DW's drop them. However, I've killed 30+ in both zones, and NO drops.

It seemst he only way to get these is through foraging...which takes forever. ;-(

I have a Druid on the FV server, I have foraged these items frequently. I asked around and it appears that they are forage only.

Sorry.... :p

I have killed tons of Dires in EW and yet to see one drop. Anyone know best places to hunt the wolfs? Were they tend to roam?

If you had scrolled down and read the other posts or went to EQ Traders.com you would have found out they can be foraged.

tufts

Ok, now the 'Enlightened Ones' are selling the tufts for 300-500each on Karana, making the cost go over 10k eack on Leatherfoot haversacks. This is foolish imho. Theses are the ones who complain that they are broke all the time >:). I buy bags all the time for all my toons, will not now, might just get my druid to do it now and rake in the cash they want ) hehe

question

any idea of any quest or raid these can be used for? my quild is planning something having to do with these and won't tell us lol... they are collecting hundreds of these... also blue diamonds... any connection there?
RE: question
# Dec 04 2003 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
These are used in making Leatherfoot Haversacks, which require 36 tufts each. They also use infused platinum thread, which requires a temper that uses blue diamonds.

1. Kael (best place to forage them, because of the low amount of other things you can forage)
2. Eastern Wastes
3. Western Wastes

And the price is higher, they sell for 50 pp at least.
the combine
# May 13 2003 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
you combine 3 tufts in a Rivervale Sewing Kit(you have to be a halfling to use it) with an embroidering needle to make 1 patch of dire wolf fur. Then you take three patches of said fur and the needle and combine in same kit to make the Woven dire wolf fur which is the one you need to make the leatherfoot bag.

It takes 36 Tufts of dire wolf fur to make the 4 wovens you need to make the leatherfoot Haversack.
in kael too
# Jan 16 2003 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent

Usage of the tufts

These are used in the Halfling Cultural Tailoring, to make the Leatherfoot bags. Check out the recipes on EQ Traders (http://www.eqtraders.com/) for the halfling cultural. They are moving the recipes, so will not post the temporary location, just the main site. Nice bags. 100% weight reduction on all of them.

Has anyone figured out their purpose?
# Oct 18 2001 at 3:52 AM Rating: Default
All i know is that i have a pile of these, DNC (does not combine) in a Large Tailoring Kit, not sure abt the Coldain Tanner's Kit.

Doesn't seem to be involved in any velious recipies YET... or it may be part of a quest yet undiscovered from the SnowFang Gnolls in IceClad Ocean.
