Beastlord Usable?
# May 05 2005 at 10:56 AM Rating: Decent
Was the Primal Velium Spear changed to be non-Beastlord usable?

My Beastlord, on Al'Kabor (The EQ "Classic" server - Frozen in time at October of 2002), has one, and uses it regularly. Unfortunately, I can't add it to my profile here, because it's not listed as BST usable...
RE: Beastlord Usable?
# May 06 2005 at 6:41 AM Rating: Default
The Primal Velium Spear was not available afaik when beastlords were intorduced in Luclin. By then the sleeper had been awakened on most servers and ST had been revamped. The new avatar spear (Anchient Prismatic Spear) IS beastlord usable. No sense in updating the old item, no beastlord could have possible attained it.

Actually since you know so much, I have personally seen his BST using this weapon. Also notice which server he said he belonged too, might help if you knew a little more next time before posting saying things could never have happened when in fact it has. The sleeper has never been awakened on Al'Kabor another fyi

i carry this as my offhand..it procs fairly consistantly. can't give you a true ratio..never thought to count while in the middle of a fight. when i am assisting i carry it as my main to downsize the agro i pull. the proc ratio doesn't seem to be any different. granted i am a ranger. that double attack helps.
Where the heck are they?

I've been on 8+ ST raids and have yet to see a single priceless or primal spears.....WTH

I've seen about a dozen primals 2hs, 2hb, 1hs, 1hb, 2hp....and not a single spear.... Am i missing something? they are WAY rare.

Maybe someday I'll get one =(

Offhand/Mainhand
# May 16 2002 at 10:03 AM Rating: Decent
Honestly, I've heard about people putting this mainhand till proc, and then putting Ragebringer back main...while that makes sense to get your first proc of the day, or after a long period of downtime, offhanding it would be just fine during constant to semi-constant fighting. My dex is right around 150'ish unbuffed, and if I have an enchanter in my group it stays at 250+ (boon of garou). It would be a REALLY bad day if I couldn't proc my offhand weapon in the course of 6 minutes :) As for 13/20 versus 15/25 mainhand, I'll leave that for the folks with log parsers. I've seen the arguments, and I'm firmly convinced that it depends SO heavily on the mob, what debuffs are on it, etc, that you should use whichever setup makes you happier, and not worry about min/max'ing, since you could be wrong...they're that close.

Avatar--Level 60 shaman buff--100 str 100 dex 100 agi 224 atk, costs 1 emerald to cast, 3 minute recast time. Emerald is not needed for proc.

P.S. Kinda funny he put real facts when all he's stating is what he read on another site...
Real facts
# Nov 17 2001 at 7:15 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, this weapon does NOT require an emerald to cast it is a proc it goes off randomly during a fight. Secondly the spell avatar from eq.castersrealm.com is 100 dex 100 str 100 attack 100 agi anyone actually had the spell cast on them could confirm this information.
Geez!
# Aug 07 2001 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
Guys...it doesn't matter. So far from what I see is (if you have been skipping around instead of intelligently reading):

1. This goes PRIMARY for the reasons listed in the other numbered post
2. If you want, you can swap hands to toggle the effects of both procs, and for that mean backstab off the RB
3. The effects are 130 atk 100 str 100 dex
4. It lasts for 6 minutes

Just a small general list for the skipper :)

PS - Don't criticize me because I read instead of bled for this. Everyone should read up on the best before they get it, and I know there is a good chance of there being better by the time I get to it with my Rogue. Thank you for all the info and keep it up guys :P

first of all this weapon KICKS ***, it has a better dmg ratio than the rogue epic, which i think is sorta gay but still. Who cares about using an emerald every time it procs! by the time you get this weapon your going to be well into your 50s and an emerald is worthless to you.

just because this has a better ratio then rogue epic means squat..13>15 damage. which does matter for backstabs..granted at that point and time, with the kind of equipment you'll have goin in there thats not so much of a deal..but still, the rogues job is to stab a mob in the back, and NOT to have the mob facing you, and be a mana sponge for the healers.

lvl 58 max Backstab = 515
lvl 60 max Backstab = 553
lvl 63 max Backstab = 563

With duelist Ive hit for 1100 at lvl 62.
I did a 1851 crit at lvl 62 with duelist.
I did a 1080 crit without duelist at lvl 62.

Those are all with RB as main hand. I didnt have primal at the time ( since i got it 2 days ago :))

Your attack makes you miss less often and hit for max dammage more often. You wont hit harder with 200 str then with 100 str, if your max BS is 553 at 60 with 100 str it will stay at 553 with 255 str. You will just do it more often.

Bah, you idiot. You're probably one of those weak dark elf rogues who claims your backstabs are as high as anyone else's but then whine when you find out they aren't. It's completely believable he got that WITHOUT a discipline; all he had to do was have good strength, and in case you didn't notice, he said with the proc, which means he had an additional 100 strength. If he was counting with his discipline, he would probably say his max was 1100, or whatever the cap is. Then again he might be a weak dark elf and that WAS with his discipline....aw hell. 60 Rogue huh ... you use E-Bay to get that?

Neq is correct. There is no way for a normal 700+ BS with an RB w/o using duelist. Max BS with a 15 dmg poker @ 60 is ~ 553 (no crit). It's possible to BS ~ 1000-1500 with a crit, though.

All of you are complete and utter morons. Just because someone plays such and such race, doesn't mean jack$hit. I play a wood elf 27 rogue. My max bs atm is with jagged ice shard at 22(138 dmg) with only 100 str. Now, with blood point+125 str it's normally around...113? Ask people who hunt with me. My gear is mostly strength + or not...ignore the signature, KoRn does own, but Rogues own morrreeeee

You cannot, I repeat cannot backstab that high WITHOUT a discipline (pre-luclin and criticals) The maximum for a damage 15 (RB and other uber piercers, highest damage a rogue can use) is something like 584. At 59 he could /disc duelist and backstab for 714 or whatever he said. Daviv you are a ******, a 26 rogue talking down a 60. I can tell you that any 60 rogue has had their strength maxed at 255, and atk over 1200 easy,(im talking about with buffs) so its not like this avatar would really put his strength above and beyond what they've already had at some point. 59 rogues get duelist, 60 they get assasinate. 58 the highest they can BS is only in the 500's.

# Mar 18 2002 at 10:29 AM Rating: Decent
My room mate plays a 60 rogue and I have seen him lay into mobs for 956 points. These are crits of course, him having the "Combat Fury" AA skill. I wouldnt be suprised if he could surpass 1200 damage using duelist with a crit, it just hasn't happened yet.

Pre-Luclin there is a cap on backstab damage, but no one here knows if the poster of the original message was referring to a crit backstab, a duelist backstab, or a standard backstab. So perhaps people should stop jumping at the chance to call someone a liar and take a step back. Fact of the matter is it IS possible to have 1000+ backstabs, and if you think differently, you are wrong.

Primal weapons do not use any component, just fyi for those saying otherwise
#Anonymous, Posted: May 24 2001 at 9:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is for all the people out there that get so excited about this proc...It still uses an emerald everytime it goes off. Of course it would probably be worth it to carry around a bunch, especially if you're uber enough to get one in ST then you're uber enough to afford a buttload of emeralds.
RE: The Proc
# May 24 2001 at 10:19 AM Rating: Default
Do you have one? Then please do not post information you have no clue about. This item does not require an emerald for the proc. It is a random weapon proc.
Do you have one?
# May 24 2001 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
So we can all assume that YOU have one, since you are posting information after telling someone else not to. There are many items in the game that require the components that their parent spells require. While they aren't weapon procs, snake skin potions require snake scales and levitation potions require bat wings. While no weapon procs I know of require components, none of them cast spells that normally require components. It is a safe assumption that these primal weapons will require an emerald as a component to successfully proc them. In fact, it would fit very well with the things that Verant has done in the past.

Of course, if they don't require emeralds now, they may soon and we will then here the cry of 12 angry primal owners...a cry that has been heard many times in the past...

this weapon blows the epic out of the water for any class. it procs at least once per fight and it last a gfair amount of time. i would take this over a Ragebringer anyday. no epic remolty compares to a Primal weapon
RE: Marvelous
# May 26 2001 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
I have to disagree slightly. The damage/delay ratio is better for this weapon than it is for Ragebringer, that goes without saying. However, I would want to keep Ragebringer for two reasons.

First of all, I would want RB in my primary hand for the backstab damage. I am only a 46 rogue, but the difference in max damage for a backstab between a 10 dmg weapon and a 8 dmg weapon for me is in the neighborhood of 30-40 points. I can envision at lvl 55+ that the difference is quite more noticeable.

Secondly, the stat buffs on Ragebringer are decidedly better than the stat buffs on this or just about any other weapon available to rogues. The haste proc alone on Ragebringer is depressing to those of us too little to get it yet, not to mention all the other stat increases it carries.

I do not mean to belittle the Primal weapons at all. They have the best ratio of any weapons I have seen listed anywhere, and proc that incredible Avatar. I would not throw one of these away if one came into my possesion, but (assuming I would already have Ragebringer by the time I got one of these) I would place it in my off hand to get the great dual wield damage, quick dual wield checks, all the stat buffs this item does provide, while still keeping the proc available. I see this as being the best of both worlds. I won't swear to this, but from a semi-educated standpoint, it would seem to me that the Ragebringer/Primal Velium Spear combination might very well be the deadliest combination of weapons that a rogue can have. I would love to see some kind of formal mathematical examination of this, but that's asking for a lot :)

Anway, if any uber rogues feel like imparting wisdom or spare items to an up and coming rogue on Cazic Thule, let me know.

Well as a rogue who does have a Primal Spear and Ragebringer I have to say that I've found it to work out better with the Ragebringer in the offhand and the Primal spear main, here's why

1 - The better ratio and lower delay combined add up to doing a good amount more damage over time which more than makes up for (I don't have the specific math on it handy, all I did was record logfiles and compare them)

2 - Smaller backstabs seem to draw less aggro from mobs

3 - With this in the mainhand I basically ALWAYS have Avatar up while fighting

Oh and this part is not a response to the post I am replying to, but there seems to be some confusion over components and weapon procs. First the Primal Spear does NOT require an emerald to process, if it did I would burn through those things so damn fast it's not even funny ;). Second so far as I know, any item with a melee proc never requires a component, while items with a right-click proc sometimes do require a component and sometimes not depending on the item

And to the inevitable complaint that epic weapons are supposed to be the best weapons obtainable, put yourselves in the shoes of someone who has their epic weapon. Where do they go from there? Plus, the stats on all epic weapons are better than the stats on primals (before proc of course)

Also, having your epic is almost necessary to take on a place like Sleeper's. Its not like someone's gonna be lazy and just stroll into ST, get a primal, then show up all those that worked so hard for their epics.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 23 2001 at 11:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this would so not be in secondary with ragebringer in main hand. i mean the ragebringer has a bit more dmg but the del on this is crazy plus avatar to proc along with haste of ragebringer, OMG just better hope dex is uber high to proc all the time

# May 23 2001 at 12:15 AM Rating: Default
Umm, Monk's opinion doesnt matter here, its a SPEAR, hehe, am i the only one who noticed that =) hehe. This item is great for any class listed there, although most epics are still better in a lot of ways. Mostly b/c at the level required you probably have some kick *** equipment, and most of the proc's effect may be wasted, not sure about what the caps really loolk like anymore, but i think dex is soft capped at 200 and atk is at 1000 i think, str supposedly isnt, but im not sure.

Lastly, does anyone know how long the effect from weapon lasts?
