I am currently lvl 56. Stats are as follows: Haste (unknown att, I have chanter vallons, atk is +10 and str +29. Cleric spell Primal Essence is blocked, I presume, by the str component of the fana. I solo or duo with a druid so the haste is a nice bonus since I do not have epic, yet.

Harder thing was to go until the room! :)

I just did, and uploaded a new screenshot too, but the Illusion Benefit Fana still doesn't show in the item description.

Thanks! I assume we don't have the Blessing set up in the item database to pull from items. I'll know for sure once I can get in and look at the databases.

I strongly recommend what another poster advised. Bring a tank merc and just go afk. The timer is about 16 min, so on a Saturday just watch movies with a timer on your phone.

However, there is some plat to be made. The ice paw that is a common drop off the kobolds sells for around 25-30pp and the scalps sell for 20pp. They are stackable, so just load up on those while your clear the Ph and adjourning tunnels. It drops so often that it really adds up.

It took me a couple days of camping, but it definitely goes a lot faster if you just afk it.

Confirmed still drops.

Was remarkably easy, just sat almost afk with tank merc up (lvl 71 Bard); whenever they spawned, he murdered them all, eventually the lute dropped!

Easy enough to get to; Though some mobs see Invis.. so FD or Fading Memories is recommended
Up the winding ice ramps until you see the three spiders in front of a hallway.
Enter the hallway and go through the back wall (fake wall).
Fall down into the pit, then fall in the small hole in the middle to where the Kobolds are.
Right, Left, Right, Left, Left.
You should be down a little ramp with a bunch of Kobolds, the one in the middle of the far wall is you PH

One thing I will say about the Warewolf Illusion, is that you might also want to get a shrink item of some kind.. It is a very tall illusion ;)

Good luck!

Sometimes the numbers are just in your favour... Decided to camp Khelkar last night (I am a 63 Bard) with my friend boxing his 70 Bard and 70 SK. He pulled half the zone at a time while we waited, great fun. First named spawn...nothing (Silver mask). A couple of PHs then a second spawn, with the lute *cheer*. That one was mine. We had an hour or so left so we hung around. Next Khelkar spawn also dropped the lute, so we were two happy werewolves :)

I was gutted when I came back to EQ and remembered (vaguely) that I had sold mine for an absolute fortune in pp in 2003/2004 when I started playing a different character...sooooo happy to have it back, although I prefer the old model...

Decided to get this lute for my bard today, went to Velks and got to his spawn point, cleared room four times, he spawned on the fifth, dropped lute the first time. Room respawns about every 20 mins. Camped my 69 Druid & 63 Enchanter in the room with healer/tank merc and just checked on them once in awhile. He was dark blue to the 63, but still very easy to kill.
Still Drops

Just to confirm, this DOES still drop.

I camped for this today, and after about a 6-7 hour camp ( and 3 named spawns later); FINALLY got it to drop. Just have to have patience. The first 2 dropped the mask and belt (plus a few odd scalps, silks, and such).

Didn't really notice a pattern from what was the previous PH, but didn't really matter to me. If you go around killing the other iceclaws kobolds in the immediate area, so decent coin can be made. The best selling stuff was the scalps, flowers, and various crushed gems.

Side note: all 3 times I killed I didn't notice any sort of rampage as was previously reported.

What server you on? I got one for sale on Bertoxx.
Extremely Easy
# Apr 10 2010 at 1:39 AM Rating: Decent
This sells for around 100k on my server as of today.

Just ran into Velks, ran to the room, cleared some trash out of the way, brought my 66 Druid 8k Health/8k Mana, & Tank merc with Druid Buffs only. Took less than a minute to kill him, was piece of cake.

Mobs seem so wussified, I dont think it should still be worth 100k for the lute, but since its not lore, going to camp him and see if I can get it to drop 1 more time before I log for the night.

Happy hunting.

Follow the post by KadBertox, because it's spot on to the last detail.

Used a level 70 SK with Epic 2.0 and 10k unbuffed HP. Fight took maybe 2 minutes. Had to clear camp 4 times, and he popped on the 5th. Dropped the Lute on first kill.

FWIW, icepaw prophets suck. If you have a reliable stun method, spam it when fighting those punks.

Following the wonderful post by KadBertox (and being the completely directionally chap that I am) I managed to get to the spot where Mr. Lute Hoarder spawns. One PH killed and he popped the next time. Got the Lute of the Howler on the first kill so it does still drop. Great news for my baby bard!

Figured I wanted to create a Bard as an alternate character, so I ran my Necromancer to Velks to try and get the Lute.

Still confirming he's in the same spot: from the zone in, head left and go up until you reach a hill crest where you have three spiders staring at you in a sort of arrow-head formation. Go through them and then turn right in the hallway, you'll go through a hidden door; drop all the way down (you won't die from the fall). It'd help to be invis. From there you're going straight until you hit the first big room, then taking a right into that big room. Then from there go down into the next room, hang another right then follow the rooms down, he'll be in the first one on the left (LOC: 226.44, -343.14, -180.19). You'll want to be careful and watch for prophets and clerics along the way, as they will see invis. If he's not up his placeholder will be "an Icepaw champion," at least it was everytime for the two hours I spent at this camp. Also note that in addition to his presence there are four guards that are down in that room with him, so you'll want to be careful of them. One more thing, watch out for the trap, as well, it's located on the platform just above his descending ramp, and it casts Telekenisis, which has a knockback effect.

He's not too bad at all. My Necromancer is level 75, and nothing to be amazed at with gear. I have around 8,000HP and 9,5000MANA unbuffed. I pulled the guards around him with dispell and they came single without a problem, pet proceeded to eat right through them (note, these guys do summon, hence the use of dispell). I'm not exactly sure of the AC figures on the level 73 pet, but rarely did he get hit for anything over 120 damage, most of the time it was for 80 and 90 damage (he didn't get a chance to backstab the pet or I). He does, of course, summon, and does seem to be a little bit on the magic resistant side. He resisted Curse of Mortality almost every time, but Ashengate Pyre and Vakk`dra's Sickly Mists took everytime. I pulled him up to the upper platform before his ramp so I could use all of the corpses (Army of the Dead). I only needed one wave of both of those DoTs and he was significantly lower in health . . . a lifetap or two and he was dead without trouble. Respawn time seemed to be twenty minutes on the button each time.

Loot was pretty random... Lute, Iceflame, Sunshard Ore, those flower things, and I never saw one spell from him. Took eight kills for the Lute to finally drop, and he was NOT holding it when he dropped it.

That's about it. Your best bet for exit is gating, else you have to continue through the rest of the maze in order to get out and back up on level ground with the zone.

Good luck :)

I spent all that time with the above poster. He usually hit me 2 or 3 times per round, while i tanked him. His highest backstab was about 500, but thats when i was turned to the opposite and allowed him to. He's just a big baby if you ask me. He popped usually 1 of 3. First time Kadem (75 Necro) and myself (72 Paladin) attemped to get him out, we only say him and his two guards. So, i just pulled and got him alone. Only later did i realize that it was him and 4 guards Lol.

Beware of the trap like the above poster said. It breaks invis with a pretty nice knockback. It could be pretty startling if you aren't expecting it and send you flying into an adjacent room grabbing aggro from everything and their mother.

# Dec 28 2006 at 11:50 AM Rating: Decent
Camped this for about 12-14 hours so far. First day got three spawns of Khelkar - two masks and the iceflame spear. Second day - one spawn and got a mask. Third day - two spawns in a row, but got two masks (couldn't loot second because it's lore). Overall, I'd guess that Khelkar spawns about 1 in 4 or 1 in 3 times instead of a PH.

Overall, the camp area is not too bad, money-wise. Sell the skins for 19pp each, and a fair number of gems drop that sell for ~47pp. Lots of spells drop too, but they aren't worth much (except maybe on the progression servers). There's another named that can spawn in the same room as Khelkar, and he was up once at the same time and was not easy to see (I used bind sight on Khelkar).

A few bard notes so far:

I can fairly easily tank five of the warrior and regular kobalds at a time using Shenanigans (AE slow + DoT). I am 75 and Qvic-geared for the most part.

On the prophets, clerics, and priests, I chain sing mez once their health drops below 50%. This keeps them from successfully CH'ing themselves, and they die pretty easily. I always kill these mobs first because otherwise they will heal the melee mobs.

The champions make pretty good melee charm pets. I usually don't need a pet, but it's kind of fun to have them punching the crap out of a prophet. Also, charming a pet has the advantage that you can click off their buffs making them easier to take out when charm breaks.

Been in this camp off and on for past couple days. Prolly total of 24-48 hours. So far here is what ive come up with.

Ive soloed the camp with my 75 sk, as well ive soloed the camp with my 70 druid. Druid is a little harder because those dam PROPHETS SUK. they CH everything so if u get to its pretty tough work. Ive gotten kleker to spawn like 3 times in a 2 day period. Im not sure if they upped his spawn rate to make it one and every 100 PH or what. But all he is dropped in the mask.

I duno but ive been here to long and im not leaving without it.
