is there a cast time on the levitate? if not (and there probably isnt) this could be used while falling. and what about the theame of it coming from the plane of air, everyone is so concerned with uber they never consider where it comes from.
My point of view
# May 27 2001 at 12:23 PM Rating: Default
1.) Charisma has absolutely nothing to do with fear.

2.) This is a good item with good stats.

3.) The 10 charges of levitate: although we have no use for it unless we're falling fast and have it hotkeyed, however if you did your research you'll find that every class has a quest item in PoA that has 10 charges of levitate, this is simply the necro version.
RE: My point of view

Item has good stats, and although your are right, charisma has nothing to do with Fear, Charisma has LOTS to do with Charm and Screaming Terror.

I look foward to sport this item, will match well with my Bone wrist of Condemnation, hehe

Don't forget, necros can charm.
Ok.. I know this has absolutely nothing to do with this item

And I apologize... But after I got a lot of newbies bashing me last night I kinda wondered about something... I always thought that The weapon in secondary had the dly of the weapon in primary... But they thought otherwise.. I don't know.. anyone want to tell me exactly how the duel wielding system works.. Because I'd really like to know..
The way it works...

Delay is also accounted for in the offhand, however what you need to consider is the RATIO of the dmg/dly for your offhand. While 9/18 is good for your mainhand, you would be better off with 12/26 or 11/25 in the offhand.

Mostly this is because of the damage bonus given to the mainhand (and not offhand). With the damage bonus you end up with a greater dmg with the same delay. However in the offhand, there is no bonus and you want to go with a good ratio, most usually a higher damage weapon.

So when you see those warriors using 2 lammy's or a monk using two wu sticks, you figure it's for looks or because they don't know. I would much rather use either a sarnak skullsplitter (or green jade broadsword) in the offhand, or for my monk at his level his fist is just fine.

Hope that helps some bro.

dunno bout that thing bout two lams. i'm usin pair of em and at 47 they seem to quad attack every time. was usin skullsplitter and it sucks imo. and bout ratios. i don' tthink theyre that usefull. a 6/13 weap has a worse ratio than a 30/60 weap but what would u think is better?

RE: The way it works...
# Jul 30 2001 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent
It all depends. What level are we talking about? When the high level damage bonus starts kicking in, low delay is everything, practicly. If I was level 1, I would like the 13 delay weapon for raising skills, but I would rather have the 30/60 weapon to do damage. If I was level 60.... OMG the 13 delay weapon would be super super good while the weapon with the slightly better ratio would do less damage in the end due to the delay. Considering that the offhand weapons do not recieve the damage bonuses that you get at higher levels, I would probably opt for the 30/60 in your offhand with the 6/13 in your primary hand. My primary is not a melee class but from everything I have heard, at higher levels ratio is important for the offhand and delay is a bit more important than ratio for the primary
That's not quite the way it works...
# May 21 2001 at 7:46 AM Rating: Default

You're right on as far as the mainhand vs. offhand stuff. Fast weapons with good ratios are superior in your mainhand. For mainhand, if the ratio is the same, take the one with the lowest delay so you get the damage bonus as frequently as possible.

However, saying you're better off with a 12/26 in offhand instead of a Lamentation is incorrect. All that matters in offhand is the ratio. Take the delay and divide by the damage....the lower the number, the better the weapon will be in your offhand (ignoring procs and damage shields).

Anything with a 2.0 (Jade Mace (18/9), CSS (24/12)) will produce pretty much equivalent damage results in the OFFhand (In the MAINhand, the Mace is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the CSS). A lam, at 19/9=2.1 is slightly worse than either the CSS or mace in your offhand and your examples of 26/12=2.17 and 25/11=2.27 are a bit worse that that.

Just Wondering

I've heard that no for of levitation spell, DMF or otherwise, works in the Plane of Air. Has anyone verifed that this item's effect also doesn't work in Plane of Air?? If it were to work in the Plane of Air, then this effect would really be useful.
Why all the Hoopla?
# May 17 2001 at 12:30 AM Rating: Decent
OK, just a few questions here...

Why is levitate a bad thing? Sure, you could cast a level 44 spell (massive Mana cost and double the casting time) but if you are running from a nasty mob or low on mana (usually it is both if you got an add) then this thing could be a serious lifesaver. Not to mention Charming Undead and buying cheaper stuff from vendors with the additional CHA, changing your INT gear around a bit to get some extra mana, a Dex and Agi boost to help with AC and the occasional weapon proc if you absolutely can't turn and run. AC 5 ain't too bad either for a caster piece of armor. Plus, I understand that there is possibly a problem with casting DMF in a planar zone? (this is heresay, I know, so give me a little leeway here)

Bottom Line is, the item really isn't that bad, and in a pinch it saves you 150 mana to DoT, Fear, or whatever with. I realize that if you have a 200 Int and beaucoup Mana gear that you think mana grows on trees, but you never know...

Anyways, just my 2 cp worth.

So why are you complain, and at that, Its a friggin' bracer, who cares about it..

# May 16 2001 at 1:45 PM Rating: Default
When you have an item with a right clickable effect, you do not have to right click on it to get it to work... this can be a hassle anyway, to push I, then click on the picture, then right click on the mask.... what you can do instead is make the slot of the effect item a hotkey. thats right, you can make non-container inventory slots a hot key. this can be useful with compasses, mask of deception, potions, bracer of hidden, ring of this that, etc.... just do the same thing you do with normal buttons.. I like to put the ammo right below the range item so I know when I have ammo for my weapon or not. so when I'm in a hurry to change into a darkelf when my halfling is strolling through the third gate in neriak, I can just push shift+2, 3, wait a moment, then I'm safe... wew that was close... or maybe when a third and fourth cyclops hops on my paladin while i'm in the middle of a battle, shift+2, 6 and I can run away faster than any of them can, and I don't have to use my LH in case I get attacked later that day. wew. another save using my hot keys.... try it out, I think you'll like it

You want to know what else sucks?? People who feel the need to type their message in all caps. Now that REALLY sucks.

(Note: the typing of the word "really" in all caps in the above message illustrates the proper use of all caps. That is, it should be use to draw attention to and emphasize a key word in a message. It should NEVER be used to capitalize an entire message.)

Ok you need to be 46 to get into sky? All necros spend 44 lvls dreaming of finally getting the Dead Man Floating spell.

Then Verant gives us a quest item from sky that gives us levitate?!? And limit it to 10 charges

-lame-

Ah well, not many necro only items in game have been done well. So I shouldn't be suprised.

I must admit, it does seem to be a weird thing to put levitate on a clickable item, and 10 charges no less. Enough to be moderetely useful, but still not enough to use casually. And since Necros get Dead Man Floating, I guess its only really useful for emergencies. But what the heck is a levitate emergency? What's the chance of having this accessable when you're falling?

OTOH, what crack are you smoking. Int 5? Mana +25? AC 5? Some other useful stats besides? All this on the wrist, which is *not* a great int place? Unused effect aside, this is *not* a lame item. And its not No Drop, which most of the Plane of Air quest equipment are, so you can even *sell* it if you get better (for several K, I imagine.)

Ok, so it's a golden chitton bracer with 5 dex, 25 manna and 10 CHA. I guess it could help if you charmed (and didn't have negative 100 CHA already from all our negative cha gear).

But I sitll agree that the effect is not only lame, but insulting

I dunno... I have looked at the necro epic... not the easiest to get, not the hardest either.

Over a 1k dot... no mana... not a bad epic.

Sure it looks like a dead duck staff but so what?

At least, unlike mage epic, they did not make it virtually useless by making 61+ pets which are so much better than the epic pet (and items which are better than the orb item itself) as to be ridiculous.

Or the Pally epic...

Or the Warrior epic which is one of the hardest to get (because of bottlenecks), yet while it may look cool there are FAR better weaps out there.

Just think about it before you declare the necro epic worthless.

Charisma and Necros
# May 15 2001 at 8:17 PM Rating: Default
There is a use for high charisma, Charms, with higher cha it would for example be a lot easyer to keep that ghoul Lord charmed sitting in the frenys room looting and selling sashes.
Yes that happens on Veeshan from time to time and its always fun when the Lord group starts seeking its pop and petition Gms to pop it.

(Necros can only charm undead btw).

Charisma affects how long FEAR will stick... so its a useful stat
#Anonymous, Posted: May 16 2001 at 7:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) CHARISMA DOES NOT EFFECT FEAR IN ANYWAY, PERIOD. If you ask anybody who has more experience than you (which probably means anyone above 2), they will tell you that Charisma effects two things - PRICES FROM VENDORS AND CHARM. Did I say Fear? No, because Charisma doesn't do **** for Fear. If you beg to differ, then you obviously are a newbie who listens to every theory that an idiot comes up with on E-Bay to sell his account.

Having played an enchanter for some time, I would like to point out that the difference in success rates for mez were quite marked between having a cha of 120 and having a cha of 198. Maybe I was luckier when I had higher Cha?
RE: Just a note...

What do you know, there IS a way to test whether or not cha affects fear! This was an experiment for three people. I, a level 17 cleric, a level 16 necro, and the gear from a 44 necro. I took off all my SV magic gear, challanged the level 16 necro to a duel, and he feared me. I timed it. He then put on 20 points worth of cha gear. Not only did the fear stick easier, but I ran for almost a second longer, by my calculations. This was not a one shot try-out, but a real experiment. I tried basically the same thing with an enchanter friend of mine, with charm, and the results were comprable.

~~~>he feared me. I timed it. He then put on 20 points worth of cha gear. Not only did the fear stick easier, but I ran for almost a second longer, by my calculations
If you know anything about collecting and parsing empirical data, one test is meaningless.
I tested it myself.
I performed a fear test on a level 30 paladin. He was debuffed and wearing gear that put his magic resist to 0 (ZERO) so that resists wouldn't have any effect in collecting the data.
Fear (chase the moon) was being cast by a level 39 Enchanter.
We went to the Arena zone.
With CHA lowered (by gear) to 70, 20 (twenty) successive tests were performed testing the duration of the Fear spell.
With CHA raised to 200 (with gear and buffs), 20 (twenty) successive tests were performed testing the duration of the Fear spell.
The results of these tests showed that his spell can last anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds regardless of Charisma. When averaged out over 20 tests, there was no arked difference in the duration of the fear spell.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 6:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have to apologize for my mistakes in my other post. I meant to say that cha doesnt affect fear or mez and that Verant said nothing about any correlation. That is all.
Sorry to break it to you, but there is no proof that cha affects cha or mez for that matter. Verant never said that there was any combination nor is there any real way to figure it out. All spells are affected by magic resistance. It is a wive's tale, kind of like the rumor about silent faction when druids killed bears (that isnt true either).
Gee the tests i did, 100 trials of mezzing a 52nd level mob at 53rd with charisma of 100, 130, 170, showed resist rates of 24%, 19%, 16%, respectively.
of course 3 sets of 100 tries is just an old wive's tale.
Yep, no proof except Brad stating that it effects spell saves on enchanter mez and charm.
Umm, not quite
# May 16 2001 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent
Verant has stated that Charisma has an effect on SECONDARY Saves for Charm Spells. This means that Charisma will ONLY affect the duration of your Charm spells and the only effect it will have is to make it more likely the creature will be charmed for the duration of the spell.
Near as I can find, they never mentioned anything about Charisma affecting Mez type spells and one of the better websites states this:
[Charisma: This affects amount you will be paid for goods by NPC merchants, and how much they will pay you. It also affects the saving throw on certain Bard and Enchanter spells (charms in particular). There is much debate over the true importance of Charisma for enchanters. It seems that the truly defining element which impacts on charm durations, mesmerise resists and other supposedly "charisma" based spells is actually the targets Magic Resistance. Some people claim that it makes a large difference. Studies run at Casters Realm have been inconclusive, so you may choose to say "better safe than sorry" and add some points at creation.]
So, take what you will from that.
not too bad
