#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 25 2003 at 9:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) maybe u guys got the idea that it should go to a tank, or it should go to a monk or what ever, but try actually going to ToV with a raid, and ull see that it goes to who it goes to. no one set class gets certain loot (unless its a class only thing) so try going there and ull see that most guilds will give it to who they feel who earned some loot.
who should have this...?

RE: AC
# Jul 30 2002 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
Sorta looks more like resist gear than anything else. A true tank would want something with more hps, the 10 sta is nice translating to 60 hps, if the war in question doesn't already have 205 sta unbuffed. Anymore sta is pointless and a waste of a shaman buff. So being the high ac resist piece that it is I can see it going to seconday melee first. People that are in aoe all the time, but are not realied on to have 6-7k hp fully buffed.

This came up on my search as the #1 item with total resists, and im a Mage. I think it would prob be #1 for all races too. So everyone who is on this raid should get a chance at this thing, unless you are doing a marriott loot system.

Well, there are alot of nice items out there and this one is certainly no exception. Unfortunately, as we all know, this item will most likely go to a rogu, and if not a rogu then a war, and if not a war then a monk, and if not a monk then a cleric, and if not a cleric then a bard, and if not a bard then an enchanter, and if not an enchanter, then maybe a magu like yourself can go to fisticuffs with a shaman, pally and SK for it.
You're high level and you know the deal. Everyone in a guild has their role, sort of like bees in a hive. I'm sure the drones would love to get wings, but then they'd fly away and who would impregnate the queen? You my friend have no need of these wings, so stay. Stay and impregnate your queen, little bee. Stay and fulfill your chosen purpose with the tools that you've been given. You are a magu. Do magu things with your magu abilities, and imagine how pissed off you'd be if a bard won a no drop mask that has 10 int and 200 mana plus some resists. Dat would make j00 an unhappy magu - and unhappy magu's don't impregnate queen bees very well (trust me).
Anyway, I've stopped making sense, so its time to wrap up this post, but I beseech you:
if you're a magu and you're going to beg your guild for something, it had better be for help on your epic cause your epic is an epic pain in the @$$.
This item will better serve you if its on the warrior standing between you and Vulak'whatever-his-name-is.

OK. My main is 37. I'm only here to drool because i clicked on the updated items section. I'm not gonna be here anytime soon, but I really agree with the point. The resists are pretty damn nice and, if you don't need a face piece with int or whatever, it would be great. Still, I think a tank could make better use of it than a caster. Tanks, in my experience, need the resists more (now that enchanters have spells to increase or reduce the aggro players generate, casters should be hit a lot less and targeted a lot less). A feared/dead tank is no longer drawing fire from the casters, who will probably take quite a beating and die. A feared/dead caster still leaves that tank to do some good. This is logical speculation based on what I have experienced, heard about, and read. Its more a tank than a caster item, and I would say that if there isn't a lot of caster loot, give them a shot at it, otherwise, leave it to the tanks.

Thats just my 2cp...which doesn't leave me with much....That was an interesting post and we do need more like it around here....

Also, what is the marriott loot system? I haven't heard of it before. Thanks.

Obviously, before Everquest was created, this dragon was scouring the mighty Everquest oceans and swallowed a mighty ship with a great pirate on board. Through the years of being inside a dragon, the pirate's Eyepatch was the only thing to withstand the digestive system of the great dragon, and years and years of dragon buffs, and mystical rituals performed by the dragons allowed this eyepatch to transform into a great item, with amazing power.

Obviously... hehe

the best loot right system I have seen is the one we use... it goes Status(new recruites get no loot) attendance (how often you are at raids we keep track with MS exel) and when you last recieved loot... we have a loot guru that has no favorites when it comes to loot he picks going on his MS exel info and how bad that person needs it.
personaly I can think of no better way I have seen a monk pull 2nd level poh for 8 hours then lose a 15ac monk mantle to a monk that had got there 10 minutes ago didn't even help in the fight by a low roll. utter BS if you ask me.

oh and if you ever sell anything you get from a raid...you get the boot instantly

End game Melee Item
# Jun 10 2001 at 11:44 AM Rating: Default
Though what the anon lvl 57 cleric makes a lot of sense he/she is still wrong because of the location of where this item came from.

This is an "end game" item. By end game I am saying you and your guild is comprised of almost all level 60's. (You will need to be near that level to even be thinking of this item). When you are playing end game AC for priest classes is rather unimportant. What IS important is resists and hps. If a cleric draws agro generally only way they can live against melee damage from the tougher mobs is DA. (or hope the melee get it off quick).

The melee must have the highest AC possible.

On awarding it to other classes sure you can do that. (One item like this won't win/loose against most of these mobs). However, I can guarantee very few end game guilds would joyfully give this to a priest or caster class.

Those people who are not at the "end game" shouldn't worry about this one item. Generally if you are in a good guild you will have tons of great AC items anyways.

On guild raids rolling shouldnt even be considered some times.
You'll have people that have been going to every raid for 3 weeks straight, then you'll have some people that have gone one 2 raids in the past 6 months. What if someone that has been raiding needs the item just as bad as someone have decided to attend this one raid loses? Is this fair? no

# Jun 03 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Default
Ok I know damned well I'm going to get flamed for this post, but I really don't care.

Look at the whole list of known loot from this zone. Now look at the classes that can use the stuff. What percentage of the items are Warrior useable? Now what percentage of the items are Monk useable?

Perhaps you people should consider that on a ToV raid where, say, 5 things drop, 4 of them are Warrior/plate/chain class useable...and Monks might get a drop that they can use maybe once every TWO or THREE raids.

Monks have some EXTREMELY badass stuff out there...but not a whole hell of a lot of it.

Oh...and just so you all don't think I'm just a loot ***** who wants ALL the goodies, I play a 59 Warrior and an 50 SK. And yes, I think this should go to a worthy Monk. Maybe a rogue. Maybe a Bard. But first and foremost, Monk.
Actually
# Jun 19 2001 at 12:43 PM Rating: Default
Yeah, look at the item list for north ToV. Look at it REALLY close. Ask yourself as a warrior using primal and full warlords how much of that stuff you'll actually use. I guarantee you that your senior warriors will probably have both before you start cracking the north dragons.

If you had actually been to ToV, and hunted in the North Area where this drops, you know pretty well that monks make out like bandits. 3 different 'best in the game' bracers for them, best boots, best legs, best chest piece, etc. No armor has dropped that would be considered an upgrade to warlords, and the mask is really one of the few upgrades warriors can get from the area.

RE: why monk?
# May 18 2001 at 8:29 PM Rating: Good
Extra AC is WORTHLESS to high level clerics? What are YOU smoking? Have you ever even built/played a high level cleric?

My cleric is level 57, has 1011 AC self-buffed, and would have multiple orgasms over a face-slot item that gives a bonus to ALL resists AND a +20 to AC. At high levels, clerics draw aggro quite easily when healing tanks/monks - ESPECIALLY if a sufficiently large pull on a raid damages the cleric's tank fast enough (or if a monk untimely fails a FD) that requires that the cleric MUST heal him before the tank has had sufficient time to build a large amount of aggro with the mob to keep it off the cleric. That +20 AC could make the difference between the cleric taking 2 bubs health damage before the tanks can taunt the mob off the cleric and the cleric taking 3+ bubs damage and dying or being forced to use one of his two Invulnerability spells that take 15 minutes to recharge.

You are certifiably insane and/or completely cleric-ignorant. For future reference, at high levels (55+), clerics need worry LESS about *wisdom*, and MORE about *Armor Class*, *resists*, mana and anything that adds more hit points. This item would be a perfect fit for almost ANY class that takes damage as a matter of course during normal gameplay - and that includes the aggro-happy cleric class AND the AC-hungry monk class. Having played both classes to level 55 or higher, I can confidently state that this item would not be wasted if looted by either class, as *both* could use it to maximum effect.

For the record, monks are no more greedy than clerics, casters, or anyone else (individual players like you notwithstanding). However, I understand first-hand how easy it is to fall into the mindset that because an item has uber stats and also has a low weight, it is automatically a monk item. While it may be true that such an item may benefit a monk greatly, the low weight does *not* automatically make an item monk-only in spite of the fact that the stats say all/all. This face item is TRULY an all/all item, and I would submit that the powers that be at VI set the weight low to allow the monk class to ALSO enjoy the use of it, rather than eliminate them due to a high-weight setting - and NOT to automatically brand it as monk-only or even monk-first gear.

...and if you come back and say that yes, you HAVE built and played a high-level cleric, I will think you a liar. There is NO WAY that ANYONE who has built a cleric to 55+ would make such a rediculous, outlandish statement as, "By the time you can get this if the cleric or caster gets attacked the measly extra AC is WORTHLESS". ANY cleric who has built a Templer/High Priest *knows* how important both AC and resist gear (especially in ToV, where this item drops) is to a cleric in the high-level gaming environment. Finding both attributes in a freaking FACE SLOT item is the very definition of 'Uber' when used in conjuntion with 'cleric item' - greedy players who play monkies and state otherwise be damned.

RE: why monk?

I see that in your haste to flame someone, you neglected to take into account the following which was stated by that very poster in the article that you referenced:

"That +20 AC could make the difference between the cleric taking 2 bubs health damage before the tanks can taunt the mob off the cleric and the cleric taking 3+ bubs damage and dying or being forced to use one of his two Invulnerability spells that take 15 minutes to recharge."

It seems that the poster you responded to is perfectly aware of the Divine Aura and Divine Barrier spells, took into account that the cleric would likely have them memmed, and was very specific about their use in the situation he or she described.

While I personally believe that it is very debatable as to whether 20 AC in and of itself would make the difference in one health bubble being saved in the manner that was laid out, I certainly can see how 20 AC could make a difference to a cleric when combined with other high AC-imparting items. As I also play a high-level cleric, I know from actual gameplay that due directly to my high AC I have stood in and taken damage without having to hit my DA or DB on many occasions, until my guild members could pull it off me. This enabled me to save my invuln spells for use when things really went bad. I very rarely ever die because I do not have a DA or DB at my disposal; something that cannot be said about many lower-AC clerics I have raided with in the last few months. Many are the times I have heard members of a raid tell their cleric to, 'DA!', only to have the cleric respond either right before or right after their death that they had no DA or DB to use because they had not recharged yet.

Make no mistake; high AC is every bit as important to a cleric in the 50 to 60 level game as resists and mana are. There is a word for it in the english language - it's called 'balance'. You don't necessarily sacrifice resists for AC or vice-versa, but anytime a cleric finds an item that gives AC -and- resists in a non-armor item slot, that is pretty incredible.

/sigh I guess not everybody can be the proud owner of usable reading comprehension skills these days. Your trolling skillz are right up there near the top, though. Go lie down before you hurt yourself.

RE: why monk?
# Aug 11 2001 at 3:33 PM Rating: Decent
Just wanted to add...

It seems that some people forget that DA and DB not only make you invulnerable for approx 18 secs or so, but they also make it impossible to melee or cast. So I believe a non-casting cleric equals a non-healing cleric. Just thought I'd throw that in.

I play a cleric and I know well that I'm not suposed to be tanking.

For those time that you do get hit.
I.E. mob pops, over agro from haing to chain heal etc...

We have a much better way of taking damage than AC.
D.A.
Hit that and when it goes off you Cannot be hit and since you have 2 of them it's kinda nice.

IMO This item is better off for melee classes. Namely monks because of weight.

Wisdom/Mana
Should be your standard get up for grindage and non resist needed mobs.

Resists/Wisdom/Mana
This should be your secondary equipment for those raids that have AoEs/magic using mobs.

I'm not saying don't stack up on AC, but it's not that importaint compaired to some other needs.

Resists > Wisdom (till maxed at 200) > Mana > AC

but, that's my opion
RE: why monk?
# May 27 2001 at 11:15 PM Rating: Default
OK, but think about it this way for a minute...

If your tanks have more AC you will heal them less.

Since you are casting fewer heals you will draw less agro from mobs.

Since you are drawing less agro, you're getting beaten on less.

Since you are getting beaten on less, you will take less damage.

Same effect, but by doing it this way, you use less mana in the process.
RE: why monk?
# Jun 05 2001 at 2:39 PM Rating: Default
Boy, your just going for broke to prove this point aren't you. I thought he made a verry lucid and compelling arguement about all calsses benefiting from high ac and resists. So consider this, the tank has high ac, (Duh, any high level tank that doesn't isn't worth his weight) but he will still take damage none the less, you can't avoid it no matter how high the tanks ac is, so the cleric does have to heal him. It's his job and that will draw agro from the mob. Seriously, have you ever played a high level character, 50+. I have my douts.
RE: why monk?
# May 28 2001 at 1:10 AM Rating: Good
>>If your tanks have more AC you will heal them less.<<

20 AC on a tank with 1100+ AC is proportionatly less effective than 20 AC on a cleric who has 970 AC. Also, the original poster never stated or insinuated that this item would not benefit a tank; he/she was responding directly to the point that the previous poster had made when they stated that AC was worthless to a cleric at high levels. Finally, he/she was very specific in the scenarios in which a cleric in a high-level game might draw aggro very quickly; multiple pulls and such.

The points made in the somewhat lengthy post were right on when taken in the context under which they were given. You might want to reread what was said before making coments that attempt to take that posting out of the context in which it was issued, as the poster you were responding to never stated that this item would be best used by the cleric class. He/she was very clear in stating that the item was equally effective among multiple classes and not "best" for the monk class because of its low weight.

Sorry to disappoint you, but if this drop, you wont see anyone rolling.

Large and efficient guilds take down those mobs, those guilds have coordination and have systems in place concerning loot. Ive never seen random take place on any uber loot ive seen drop.

Top guilds either have:

-1 person deciding who gets what.
-A group of person deciding who gets what.
-A point system a la Afterlife (which seems to be pretty popular atm).

Remember before Kunark people were killing Noble Dojorn in PoA but no casters could hit him with anything and it took dozens of tanks to kill him? He's around level 63, so if people had that much trouble with a mob 13 levels higher, how much luck would they have with a mob that is 15 levels higher the all the level 60's?

#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 10:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There really shouldn't be any class that is excluded from rolling on this item - the saves and AC are something anyone could use. If there were any classes that probably would benefit less, I'd say druids and shamen because in all likelihood, they'd need a wis item in there. Still, for the saves and AC alone, I'd say that no class should be excluded from a roll.
RE: Something for everyone
# May 15 2001 at 10:27 AM Rating: Decent
Not saying it's better for any class, but if this dropped I'd merit it to a tank, since they will get more use out of the AC and melee stats. It's a whole lotta AC for a face slot item. That said most tanks probably have that Eyepatch of Plunder before they get around to raiding ToV, but any that dont would probably get a shot at this. I would also love to have one, I would just prefer to give to the most useful first.
RE: Something for everyone
# May 19 2001 at 4:48 AM Rating: Default
Well, the resists alone make it great for any class. The AC alone makes it great for any class. Anyone who doesn't say they'd want it is a liar.

This item would also be very good for shamans, as well as, of course, all melee and clerics (and everybody else as well, for multiple reasons noted above). They take a lot of aggro sometimes, casting their slows and debuffs, and are always trying to get both good AC and plenty of wisdom and mana at once. A cleric might not heal on every mob, but a shaman will try to slow every mob, and probably get hit every mob. Add in resists, and shamans have a lot of bases to cover. An item with this much AC PLUS huge resists would be great for shamans. No shaman wearing this would be crying about missing a chance to have a face piece with wisdom on it. He'd be thrilled -- 20 AC is HUGE. Plus 10 to resists is HUGE.

Probably this loot would go to whoever is the pure melee who is the best friend of the raid leader. ;) Just kidding--seen it happen a few times tho.
