A good bow for rangers level 55-60
# Oct 21 2002 at 12:57 PM Rating: Good
This is a lovely dropable bow for a ranger whose guild is not "Doomshade" or NTOV capable. Once you begin to start using archery as a true damage multiplier for your exp group/raid you will find that the damage delay ratio damage exceedes that of "happy procs" (procs that make you smile when they go off, but really don't do too much). There are some high-level rangers who reside in smaller guilds who can only muster the numbers for a DN raid as opposed to a NTOV or Doomshade hunt. This bow suits their needs rather well.

The true issue in this thread is the NGB thought that purvades the forums. Before joining a hunt, be it exp group or a guild raid, a good player has a general expectation of 1) where they are going 2) what they are going to hunt 3) how long they are going to be there and 4) based on that they have a general expectation of what CAN / will drop. For example, if I go to Upper Dogs Velks and I have 4 hours I can expect to see 8 clearings of the pops and 8 seperate chances that Tpos Icepaw will spawn. Knowing he spawns about 1 in 6, we can see him about 1-2 times. Prior to joining the group we set the following loot rules:

1) Clerics get the VT Scalps, Bangles and non-quest gemmies to cover the cast of Peridots
2) Paws are split by people who are on giant faction. These people are out on minor drops as the paws hold some pp value.
3) /ran 200 500 for all major drops (at the level all the items in this camp, unless pulling the named sents, are generally cash sale items and are not uprades)
4) Class gemmies to people who need them

The system is not perfect, but few systems are. it is fast, effiecient and everyone understands them prior to joining the group. If you don't like the rules--don't join the group/guild. If you are unhappy about the way the items were allocated, don't group with that collection of people again, or make a point to outline specific loot rules prior to joining a group. Some camps drop a lot of melee stuff -- others drop caster stuff -- some camps are just good exp or allow you to collect item X Y Z for quest 1 2 3.

/pet peeve off

On other notes -- Rangers at this level who start to use archery (level 51 plus) who have not gotten one of the fine no drop bows can find this in your local bazaar for a moderate fee of about 5000 pp.

For the other bow classes, I wold suggest a longer range bow, coupled with 150 range arrows to exent your distance. Expecting your friendly SK Warrior or Rogue to gain a significant amount of damage via a bow is asking too much from them.

There is one case I know of where having a very very fast bow for a warrior MT to gain a lot of aggro on a special dragon prior to the raid engaing, but this is a limited instance.

Happy hunting

I bought one recently for 5k in the bazaar.
Seller had for between 5 and 6k.
I sent a tell asking if he would take 5k.

I am a GM smith with pretty much everything I need in equipment at this time.

I have Slay Undead 3 and thought I would get my uber archery skill maxed to 75 :), and play with the good shadow/mithril arrows to see what kind of slays I can get.

am i lucky?

just before the advent of bazaar trading i was in ecom looking for a bow and had 300pp to spend. what do you know if this guy just up and sells this to me for 300pp. at the time i didnt know diddly about bow but have since found out that i got a decent deal(tarrew marr). so whoever you were....THANKYOU! love my bow....and for all you grumpy rangers out there i gave it to my rogue.
am i lucky?

Don't you get it?
# Sep 05 2002 at 10:31 AM Rating: Decent
Don't you get it? The reason non-rangers want these high-end bows is to DENY them to the rangers. They all believe that rangers should suck at everything, and a ranger with a good bow can be absolutly deadly. They need to keep us rangers in our "place", so to speak, at the bottom of the food chain.

If I sound angy, its because I have been reading the posts for this and other bows. The sheer number of non-rangers making off-hand remarks about rangers and about how other classes deserve such-n-such item instead of a ranger is utter BS.

It reminds me of all the groups I've been in as a druid where I was forced to roll against non-druids for the right to loot druid-only (but sellable or MQ) items that I needed (such as ES Vambs and Shroud of Nature).

Its like this....if a bow drops, there is a ranger in the group, and it is an upgrade to the ranger's current bow, the ranger should get it by default. If the other melees want a bow, they can buy the ranger's old bow or wait for the next drop. You don't see Rangers trying to snatch up pierces when there is a rouge in the group, nor be the first to snatch up that AC/HP gear the warrior will use more effectively.
RE: Don't you get it?
# Sep 22 2005 at 8:39 AM Rating: Decent
I agree.Because rangers have been so nerfed over the years the only thing we have left is our bow. At 59 and some work on our AAs we will be what we where supposed to be, DANGEROUS!! They don't want to see that. They would like to see rangers as meek, low damage wanna be warriors. When the mastery and fury comes about, it's hard for the big damage dealers to eccept that a ranger can now out do them.
Keep fletching, keep plinking, and remember rangers, your bow is your purpose.

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!
A good bow is for rangers..here's why.
# May 02 2002 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
For you people who would consider taking this in the place of a ranger...why? So you can have a better stat wise bow in your range slot instead of a hunting bow? Maybe what you dont understand is that this bow will do jack diddly for any non ranger class, you just dont have the skills and class focus on archery like rangers do.
Imagine this, a very nice dagger drops somewhere, rogue drools, wizard drools...who get s the dagger? The one who will get USE out of it! I would be disgusted if a wizard got a sweet piercing weapon over a rogue much the same as if this bow went to a class other than a ranger (unless there is no ranger present then Grats!) Any non ranger in my guild who tries to get this over a ranger is going to get his hand and his head chewed off (not that any would want to take it over a ranger).

Ranger only?!?! WTF
# Nov 30 2001 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
You got to be kidding me, who ever said SKs shouldn't use a bow to pull, has never tried to split a camp, especialy one where you don't have a lot of room to work with.

If you pull with a spell, then the mobs are going to be on you before your FD spell will be avaialble.

If you pull with a bow, then you can back up, FD. Wait for a few mobs to start to leave, stand up, and if you do it right, you have the camp split.

Now if you have room to work with, then of course, spells are the way to go.

There are some FAR better bows for the purposes you mentioned than this, or pretty much any high end Velious bow.

The top end player-crafted will have significantly more range than this, and if you are pulling, ratio isn't important at all. If you are FD pulling from an arrow shot, you won't shoot more than once, you'll drop and do your FD pull, so being able to shoot quickly is irrelevant. High damage is nice, but truly not necessary when your talking any levels above the mid-level range. Pulling a mob with 5k with a 40 point shot or a 60 point shot won't appreciably decrease your combat time.

Basically, for less money and effort, an SK, Pally, or Warrior can get a far better bow for pulling purposes.

Ranger's are the only class that truly can use Archery as a viable method of damage in the post-50 game, and that is solely due to the Trueshot discipline. Before you get upset when someone suggests that a bow be Ranger only, keep in mind that for most of these bows, Rangers are the only class that will find applicable use out of them.

I'm personally against restricting a tag on an item like this for solely Rangers, but frankly, Rangers are the only ones who will see a benefit out of this bow, or pretty much any of the other high end bows.

The Answer.
# May 24 2001 at 4:14 AM Rating: Default
Ok everyone, this is painfully simple.

This bow drops. Rangers get first pick/roll. If all rangers present have better bows, all rogues and warriors who dont have better bows roll.

Why you ask? If an SK is pulling with a bow, then you have a problem. If a pally is pulling with a bow, then you have a problem (if a pally is pulling period thats iffy). SK's pull with spells. If you want to sit back when low on health, you better be tapping, not using a bow. And if you're low on health and oom, you better be medding. The only classes who need bows, aside from rangers (for obvious reason that have already been stated), are rogues and warriors, for pulling.

And even then, all that matters is range. Dam/Delay is irrelevant (though +stats are nice). War/Rog bow damage is NOT going to make a whit of difference overall, and all it's used for is to get the attention of the mob. Fire an arrow, mob gets angry, run back to group. Period. You don't even have to hit the damn thing. Maybe fire a second arrow if you have time when you return to your camp with the mob inc. A total of what, 30-40 damage, MAYBE.

So there you have it, simple as that.

This bow can lay out some damage. Because it is in the bow slot doesnt mean it is useless... See the 30 dmg, it is the same as 30 dmg from any weapon. The reason people think ranged weapons dont deal as much is because their Archery Skill is most likely at 0. Take a look at your own. As your skill on archery goes up, so will the ATK marker, giving it a better chance to peirce AC. A 1:1.3 ratio on any weapon is pretty sweet, especially since you can add BAD damage w/ better arrows and the ammo is very easy to replace
RE: The Answer.
# Jul 19 2002 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
um, you are not going to get any double attacks with a bow. This is one reason why rangers (Trueshot, Archery Mastery and Endless Quiver) will get the best use out of these nice bows.

i just paid 7k for this bow, and well worth it being a true bow fan, i hit for 484 with discipline on, my crit with raincaller was 430 so i imagine with a 30 damage i should be able to hit in hig 600's or maybe even mid 700's with this bow

GET FOR REAL. I have to concur with the other reply here. When you give up some of your soloing ability, not to mention them damn money making TPs, then you can say you got shafted. Until then, try killing ONE blue mob, without you being SoW'd, the mob being snared, and without your fear spell. Then tell me how hard you have it. 8)~

Druids have the same healing as shamans and better dds and smg shields. Druid get shafted?? the shamans get the big shaft 3 times over! as far as Armor, that's you problem- why dont you quit Kiting 3 or 4 mobs at a time, then maybe someone will care when you cry about armor
Yippie!

Ranger only
# May 15 2001 at 10:18 PM Rating: Default
The very small stat bumps you are talking about on the ranger only bows mean nothing. And I have Bow of the Huntsman which has an 81hp dd on it, but the thing goes off maybe once per 60 shots? Thats crap compared to better dam/delay ratio. I wouldn't have that big of a problem with so many classes getting to use the great bows if Verrant gave rangers gear equal to the gear of the other melee classes, such as all the great haste items that the other melee classes get in Sky. And whenever they DO give rangers any decent gear its usually so hard to get that they might as well have not added it, such as the new Plane of Hate items.

Has anyone noticed that the bows that can be used by most bow-wielding classes do not have much in the way of bonuses or effects?. Look at all the Ranger only bows and you notice one big difference... Lots of extra stats and cool effects. Damn, wish my warrior could wield a bow that did Lightning strike(bow of the silver fang), or one that created a whirlwind effect (whirlwind). Sure the damage ratio is good but looking at the Ranger only bows you have better stats bonuses, range and effects. So when a new bow hits the scene and has good damage ratio but no bonuses then I personally don't know where you rangers seem to think you should hog it for your class. Anyways, that's just my 1.2 cp
RE: ?????
# Apr 20 2002 at 11:33 PM Rating: Decent
did you bother to look where thoese two bows are from?? the silver fang drops in ToV and the whirlwind is next a next to impossible quest in PoS. did you look at bow of shadows?? drops in UP has awesome stats and is not ranger only... before you complain about how good we have it do some research. if all you are looking for is stats try an idol. if you think a proc is gonna do much dammage from a war pulling shooting once and then running back to camp guess again. you might proc 1 out of 40 shots if you are lucky and i know you arent kiting sow and snareless so whats your gripe?

you fail to realize that verant is trying to reach out to rangers to use bows as an actual damage source. look at the new thing with the quivers. look at the dmg:dly they do, + effects. For all the other classes, they are a nice thing to pull, or hit when they are rooted.

Well,

My 2c is this. RANGEr = A tracker a hunter, skilled in the arts of kiiling things with a bow or mele and able to cast.

Hmmmm...This is a very nice bow, no doubt about it. But there are better. And yes as a ranger I am mightly pissed off at verant for bringing these in without finding a way to upgrade the Trueshots/Raincaller/<Insert New Bow Here>

I know these bows will not be seen by everyone. But if you know Uber Guilds like I do, you will know that Alot of people will end up with them in the long run. GUILDS like to fight in those areas. Now if I was in an uber guild(oh wait I am Hail the Ashenwood Elite!!) I would be looking for these everytime they drop. Eventually they will filter down because they are not No Drop.

I have seen 55 - 60 levels players selling thier souls so they can get some other UBER item. These will make it to the market sooner or later...most likely later.

Well done to everyone that gets them. i can't wait to see what the Next RANGEr Only bow will be.

NURF the Warrior!!....NO wait I have one of those toooooo........
umm...look at the picture a little more closely
# May 15 2001 at 2:02 AM Rating: Decent
The ratio in the text part above the picture is incorrect. This is an average(for what it is) velious bow with sucky range. 30 39 is to be sure a damn fine ratio but it is no better than some of the other velium bows...in fact it doesnt even touch the priceless velium reinforced bow.
As for the ranger/other melee class debate on who should get these bows...how many people are EVER going to get these bows period? And how many guilds are going to hand them out to warriors when there are rangers lusting after them? The guild leader wouldn't want any part of the temper tantrum I would throw if a warrior got it. It just wouldnt happen unless there was a surplus of them dropped(which WON'T happen). Rangers will always get the better bows no matter who can use the thing. Flip side of the coin is when the low delay godly piercing and 1hb items(which believe it or not, most rangers have plenty of proficiency in) start dropping and we get to watch them go to the rogues and monks.

Well, say what you will about Rangers and their bows, but we do not have access to things like fiery swords and such...Besides, the only real complaint I have about these new bows is how much better they are than the Trueshot...In fact, I cannot believe how many bows are better, and sort of feel disappointed due to the effort required to obtain the items and then craft them together successfully...On top of that, Maesyn Trueshot is a liar; He claims he will teach you to make a bow that NEVER misses...I miss more often than I care to, and that is with 200 Archery skill...soooo...
There are my two Silver worth...Oh, did I mention the vast array of armor the other classes (Pally and SK) have access to? Or the death/healing touches of these classes... =p heh

Ok, how many times does everyone have to read the replies whenever a new bow is posted only to read something along the lines of "This should be ranger only, they are not really used for anything else." Look, rangers, there are many awesome bows out there for you and you alone, but there are also many other bow classes out there that would love a bow like this. I know that when I am low on life and do not want to be in the thick of the battle, I like to sit back and snipe the mobs. Just my 2cp

Alright, I gotta agree with Ciraq here. Yes, rangers ARE a class that is RPed around the Bow, and yes, we do get nice Crits with them, and a discipline later in our careers. But frankly, we do have some excellent bows out there already, and I for one think its pretty ridiculous to get upset that yet another bow isn't Ranger only. Secondly, this bow IS usable by Rangers, so there's NO grounds for complaint! I personally think that the more classes can use an item, the better! It makes it a whole lot easier to a)find someone who has it, b) give it to someone who could use it when you get a better one, and c) sell it to someone if you don't know anyone who wants it.

Just MY 2cp about the whole issue. I can't stand it when anyone complains about how screwed their class is gear-wise. If you think so, change classes and stop clogging the boards.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 7:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I only agree with B)... In fact its the only one that I think even makes sense. A) A is true but what it is implying is that it would be easier to buy which it is just the opposite, B) Makes sense but in the case that it would be Ranger only I would be happy to be able to hand down a bow that only another Ranger could use, their the kind of class that makes you tight with your fellow class (unlike monks... who of which is the class I play as a main), and C) Why in the world is it a good bow if you have to give it away??? come on think here, the posts that started this were cries for Verant to give Rangers awsome bowS (yes, archery and bows should be THE defining existense that makes them a unique and fun class to play, meaning like Rogues who get their million high lvl R. only piercers Rangers should get a tons of high lvl Ranger only bows).

--------Rangers... need... the ultimate skill in bows, their max for each lvl should be at least 10 more than warriors while other classes have it lower than warriors. Their max max skill in archery, having first hand experience with it, should be much much higher.-------------

I suppose then that Warrior's Should be 10skill higher at each level than any other melee class at all weapon, offense, and defense skills?
And Monkeys should fly out of my butt when i say "Cheese"?

Trueshot discipline is probably the best discipline there is and this is an awesome bow who the hell cares if warriors can use it, it'll go to a ranger anyway.

Why don't you go check the item listings for Bows on this website and see how many KA bows there are for rangers only.
