not as great as people think

as a caster, not charisma dependant, only needing intel and mana ... i would not bid, nor encourage any of my other wizards to bid on this item. By the time your guild is capable of NToV, your intel should be maxxed at 255 ... you want mana on the fingers ... or mage focus items =) ... 35 mana is nice, but i get more benifit from Shadel bandit and Band of eternal flame ... it just doesnt have enough of the stat that most casters need on it ... by this point in the game, you can get far better mana on a ring for much much much less effort ... this should go to tank types, hybrids before chanters, chanters before warriors, warriors before monks/rogues ... priests next ... casters last ... yes its got some great resists on it, but Vel Diamond has better ... and with Enlightentment/KEI you can sac some intel and still be maxxed. the other stats just dont really matter much. but this is just my opinion ... you do what your guild feels is best for them ... as for me ... i will do what i think is best for my wizards

Using your logic, my monk views this ring as:

AC 7 - AC is a friend
STA 7 - HP is a friend
CHA 7 - Saves me platz for food
INT 7 - Urgh, to read and write
AGI 7 - Defensive skillz
HP 35 - HP is a friend
Mana 35 - What is mana?
SV ALL 5 - The Premium of all statz to ANY class.
STR 7 - Having 200+ STR is k3\/\/1
DEX 7 - Procs and off. skillz

So technically a monk would be wasting "3" stats.

Whar does DEX have to do with Tailoring?
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 17 2001 at 6:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dex is the stat failures are based off of for tailoring. Same thing with strength and smithing. It used to be that the higher of wisdom or int was for your skill increases and the lower was for failure rate, but they changed it so they both affect increases (it checks against one, and then if it fails, it checks against the other) and a stat that actually has something to DO with the skill is the failure rate stat. So, it's always good to have a Shammy buff you before attempting trade skills.

From SOEs own mouth came the words that the only thing that affects failur rates is the level of the skill.
To my knowledge stats only ever affect the skill increase rate, hence int OR wis maxed gives you the best possible chanse at raising any of the trade skills. For most there however is also a secondary stat, for smithing it's str, for tailoring dex, for JC cha etc. What this one does is simply the same as high int or wis would do if it is higher than both of them.
So for example a Tailor would check for skill increases against Int, Wis or Dex, whichever one is higher. At least that's the way SOE has told us it works, although I've never done any extensive testing myself.

Oh, and Ssliths... YES, I would put 6 65 rings on a caster. Wearing 2 on my necro, actually - I find they allow me to continue mana production without fearing for my life. Oh, before I forget... TRY WALKING IN SOMEONE ELSE'S SHOES, YOU FREAKING ******! You give Monks a bad name.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 12:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These are very rare, have gotten a handful. I seriously doubt there is more than 10 across all servers. Everyone that could possibly need the other loot of the drakes will probably have them LONG before you see anywhere near enough rings.

With regards to randoming uber loot and the subject of monks
# Jun 14 2001 at 4:37 PM Rating: Excellent
With regards to uber loot, you are not going to get it without one or more guilds being present. In that case, loot rules will have already been determined. With our guild, loot is allocated mainly by merit with random rolls being used to break "ties" in merit. Who merits what is determined by guild rules (which sometimes require a judgement call). Often it is quite obvious what class should get what item. Need before greed is all-important. Just because a great monk item comes up doesn't mean my monk will get it. I only have a shot at it if I merit it AND I will use it. Usually though everyone present for a raid merits (in the sense that they deserve a shot at it) everything that comes up that they will actually use (NBG).

Now, in defense of monks I have to say that weight is a vital statistic for playing a monk. If you don't think it is tough, try keeping your weight to the same level a monk would have to. The average weight of items that I equip is 0.7 pounds. Most of my items are 0.1 pounds. The bulk of the weight comes from a very few items that weigh over 1.0 pounds. With regards to jewelry items like this one though, weight is not a consideration as far as making it a monk item because jewelry items are so light-weight as a general rule. How do you decide if something is a "monk item"? It requires a judgement call and a thorough knowledge of what items are available in the game and how hard they are to get. I will give an example. Suppose you have warriors, monks, rogues, and enchanters that arguably could use a certain item. The item has significant haste on it which is a crying shame to waste on a caster, so the enchanters are eliminated. The warriors have 5 other equivalent items available in the same slot that are easier to get but not so for the rogues and monks, so the warriors are eliminated. The rogue's epic will have a better haste that will not stack with this one like the monks' will so the rogues are eliminated. There are five monks present on the raid. One has a better item in that slot and is eliminated. One is significantly below average level for that raid and is eliminated. One of the remaining three has only been to this particular zone twice while the other two have been here many times in hopes of getting this item so he is eliminated. There is no clear difference in the merit of the remaining two monks, so they random roll the item. In another raid, with the same item, someone else might merit it more than a monk (a Shadow Knight maybe).

If you have a good guild, you will usually know who will get what on a given raid before the raid begins. As the only monk at that time in my guild who did not yet have CF's, I was the automatic choice for a Wu Trance Stick (a nice, but by no means uber item)when we raided CoM.

Why do monks persist in posting things like "Woot! What a great monk item!!!"? Here is why. Monks go through their monkly lives seeing item after item with great stats that they would love to have but could not use even if it was given to them for free. Why? Because of the weight. When we see an item that has great stats AND low weight, it's like winning the lottery. The monk who says something about this being a great monk item is not trying to greedily grab it from other classes but (usually) is simply rejoicing at having discovered something that they may one day be fortunate enough to own. The odds are that even if their raid group DOES come across the item in question that they will not get it (AND THEY KNOW THIS, SO WHY BOTHER REPEATING IT OVER AND OVER), but it is still nice to dream. It does NOT feel good to have someone stomp all over them in this forum when they declare an item's virtue as a monk item. With regards to those that say All/All means it should be an open roll, I think I can say with a high degree of certainty that you have never been on a real raid or you would know better.

If an item gave 50 mana and 5 int, you would argue that it was a caster item. If it gave 50 mana and 5 wis, you would say it was a healer item. What is so different about weight? Isn't it a stat just like the mana/int/wis? Arguably low weight alone does not make an item a monk item automatically. How would you feel if a monk rolled on a 15 pound item that was All/All that you really wanted, claiming that he was actually going to use it and not sell it. Would you believe him? Would you be angry at him for placing a claim on this item? And yet, if an identical item came up on a different raid that had a weight of 0.5, would you insist that YOU had a claim to this item and be angry at the monk for saying it was a "monk item"? Pick a category of items (other than jewelry) and start picking out how many weigh less than one pound. Now, out of these, select how many can be used by a monk. What percentage did you come up with? Now do you see why we get excited by low weight nice items? If you haven't done this yet, try it. It is an eye opener.

It does not help that most of the items in the range of nice/really nice/uber that a monk would want are all/all. It is also really annoying when a monk discovers a caster only item that has better tank stats and lower weight than the equivalent uber monk item. (What is Verant smoking?)

I do not believe that he is smoking crack. If all that you see is the length, then you are obviously a little litera-phobic (real word?). If you read the article, then you would have seen how well thought out, well organized, and how well the opinion is stated and backed up with examples. It obviously took a lot of time to think this out, so please, give him credit. If this was an english paper, it would have recieved an A. I only wish that we knew his name. Smiley: oyvey

P.S. I did the search. i did chest items. The results were....
52 total items. However, only 11 of these were worth having, for the AC or the stats and AC. It is almost depressing.

Here is an Idea....IF you have NEVER been into Veeshan, and most likely Never will..DONT POST!!

It never ceases to amaze me !! When ever an item of almost artifact status (since almost 75% OR More will never even see the Inside of Veeshan {cept for others screen shots perhaps} Much less even be with a raid party that gets this to drop).

Now with the newley added Armor Quests making Veeshan a More needed zone, I am sure we will see plenty trying to quest just to get the key for Ole Vee....something alot of people will never achive, so all the debate over these items is not just redundant, but senseless and wasteful..

It would be better to go off and sniff glue ( AND no-- DON't GO SNIFFING GLUE!!! course for most of the people here I am too late! ) than to read the putrid waste posted about the above item.

Who said anything about a key?
#Anonymous, Posted: May 18 2001 at 5:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I love to hear people argue on these posts. So I will add my 2 cents! For all you Uber guild people tellin us all how it is, I just wanna say: WE ARE NOT ALL IN SUPER COMMY GUILDS! The only superiority there is in my guild is by levels, if we got a nice warrior item, it would go to the highest lvl warrior who needs it, nuff said. And if it is like this, and usefull to anyone, then it would definetly be a roll. If I was in a guild that gave everything to people because of how much/well they play, or who were considered "Superior" I'd leave. Thats no fun at all. Like I really want to revert to Playground social standings. Also, any monk complaining about thier class....ummmm.... quiet, now! Monks are awesome! They not only do lots of damage, but get some of the coolest lookin gear I have seen so far. But, every other class is just as awesome. I love a good warrior/monk/paladin/shadow knight/bard/enchanter/magician/necromancer/cleric/shaman/wizard/druid/ranger/rogue in my group anytime! But you have to be GOOD! Otherwise I just kinda humour you, heheheheh. Ok, to make more people argue against my post, I will finish with a bold statement! I think necromancers do not add anything to group that another class can do better. They are awesome soloers. Otherewise they just add that extra damage a wizard could do much quicker :-). Ok, all you necromancer fans, rant away!

Chances are, NONE of you will ever seen one of these rings. IF you were lucky enough to see one of these rings it should be randomed between everyone. Sure monks like having good stats, but who doesn't? And by the time you can even think about obtaining this ring your monk would most likely have a velium fire opal ring and gem encrusted, so not getting this item isn't a huge deal.

I do agree that monks get some serious shaft as far as resist gear, but thats no reason to punish everyone else that goes to temple of veeshan with you to. Fact is, this ring would rule for any class, period.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 2:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Monks aren't all that and no one class is all that. Yes MOnks may be able to to out dmg a Warriors, but try hitting a level 60 Ogre warrior with full plate and tons of hit points while your hit points are way lower and the Warrior is hitting not that much below you. Also try fighting a level 60 wiz that roots your butt and hits you for 200dmg a pop and see what you think about any class at that point. Each class does have their power and I've seen high tanks get taken out by casters and I've seen casters get taken out by good tanks.

i'm a monk

this is a perfect monk item

this is also an incredible item for ANY class. its true that when you surf through most of the comments in here you see some post saying "perfect for monk, we should get it first"

with the items currently out, monks DO outdamage a warrior. i'm 56 and already outdamage 60 warriors. it was MEANT for monks to out damage warriors. but tanks we are not!! the only hybrid to melee class that a monk ~might~ be able to out-tank would be a bard or rogue. granted you will have special circumstances, but rule of thumb is we are not meant to be tanks, we are mana sponges when it comes to heals.

fact is: any class will benefit from this ring, every class ought to be able to roll for it.

in the meantime, may Lord Agnostic bless me with phat lewt (like this ring)

And to the person who was complainig about the name: don t you think it s normal that items of the same set have same effects(like all rhe ykeshan weapons for example)?
Now all of you guys have a reason to say that monks are greedy about the 0.0 weight items.
