Somebody had to bid
# Oct 27 2003 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
I got these last night for my Paladin. Nobody bid on them but me, and since a patch wiped all my equipment, I only had Crustacian boots (leg-up kits suck really bad).

Gratz to anyone that gets these, it's no doubt an upgrade otherwise you wouldn't bid :P

Similar caster boots drop from Lord Feshlak... which is on the way to Dagarn... I suggest not bidding on the boots below (if they happen to apeal to you) if you want to get the boots above.

I am a level 62 monk, I have these boots, I simply bid on them with points and won. The other members of my guild were happy that I won them. They didnt try to outbid me and be stupid about it. They help me and I help them. They are definately excellent gear and I am glad I have a smart group of people to team up with.
By the Way for all of you monk AC is so high people,, well your right I have 7 pieces of North ToV gear now and self buffed my AC is 1355

Truth is these boots are good for alot of classes, but for a monk they are Hella good!

Good luck all you monks getting a pair of your own

think you all need to do some thinking about what you say GOD peeps if you were to put a leather base item on a person that should be wearing plate GOD help you and your guild.

Not one tank in are guild would have these on, they would rather have the crit res but if it makes you guys fill better to talk about who should have these then go for it.

P.S. I to am a monk and if you other monks can not pull without these boots then i think you should fined a nother class to play.

Why not give to a monk

Sure give it to the monks.

1) Not enough raw HP for warriors
2) No wis/int or mana for the hybrids (or priests)
3) Has good stats for a monk and is very low weight.

Scratch hybrids from 2 and place them under 1. :)

Could someone let me know what a warrior should use it seems to me that anytime something is better than a rusty short sword it should go to a monk or hybrid and if its a warrior only item unless its trash the monks and hybrids post how badly they were slighted and that verant messed up and even though it says warrior only it should only go to monk/hybrid.This is my first post i have looked up maybe a thousand items and dont recall one where everyone thought it was a warrior item.

When you get in a guild that can kill Dagarn you'll understand.

Warlord Boots: +32 AC, +3 Sta, +2 Agi, +30 HP, really easy to get if you're killing Dagarn.

Alrighty, now what Argfeld as well as several others have tried to politely point out, nobody's shouting these are just a MONK item. They are however saying that the guilds capable of killing these mobs (if you are not in such a guild, you very likely don't know how they handle loot and therefore should not comment on how you *think* they handle loot) WILL generally award these to Monks first. I am a Monk, these are exceptional boots, exceptional for most of the classes able to wear them, too. However, the guilds that kill these mobs award them to their Monks first. Particularly, their primary puller. Basically, don't be an *** clown, I know it's a nice item, you know it's a nice item, we'd all love to have these boots but dont argue with the people that know how this loot is dealt with. Guilds award their pullers very well, it isn't about light weight, god I wish you would all understand it isn't about the light weight.. it's about the stats that keep the puller on their feet longer. A dead puller isn't of much use to anyone, because the warrior can't tank a mob that never made it back to camp.
Is it a monk item or not?

People are debating whether or not this is a monk item. Quite frankly, it doesn't matter. It requires one or more fairly powerful guilds to acquire this item. Items acquired in this manner are given out according to guild rules. You don't get to vote on it (unless your guild rules say you can). A monk would be MORE LIKELY to get this (with most guilds) than other classes, but it would by no means go automatically to a monk. Here are some ways that such loot is divided:

1: You guild uses a point system. Because decent upgrades to monk equipment are kind of rare, monks in guilds that use point systems tend to accumulate way more points than other classes as they have less items they can spend points on. In a guild that uses a point system, a monk would probably outbid his guildmates for this item.

2: Your guild uses NBG. Going by NBG, a monk would probably get this item because of how much other monk footwear sucks compared to it.

3: Most guilds that use NBG also use merit which means that the item might end up going to anybody that can use it based on what they have done for the guild, their level, etc.

4: Your guild is strictly into getting results on raids. Going by this method, the "uber" AC items tend to go to the main tanks and the main pullers (usually monks) first, putting them far ahead of the lesser tanks and pullers and other guild members who ideally will never need the high AC.

It should be noted that high end items such as are found in ToV and Sleeper's Tomb, etc. are almost always light weight. It would be unfair to the other classes to make such items automatically "monk items" because of the weight. That does not mean that a light weight item is NOT a monk item. It just means that a high-end item that is a "monk item" did not get that status automatically because of its low weight.

The idea that everyone listed as being able to use an item should get a shot at it is laughable. Unless you are on a pick-up raid (hard to imagine in North ToV), guild rules decide who gets what. Successfull guilds do not use this method, so you just aren't going to see this going to a caster or a healer before it goes to a melee.

If your guild hangs out in North ToV long enough, eventually everyone that wants one of these will have one regardless of what class you are. It should also be noted that there are about three very nice foot items in North ToV, one of which is much better for casters and healers than this item. It has wisdom, intelligence, and mana and almost as much AC as this one. By the time a guild got to the point that it was giving this item to its caster/healers, most of them would already have the item better suited to them.

P.S. I have a pet peeve against people that say an item shouldn't be a monk item and then say that their opinion carries weight because they are a monk, only to discover that they play a 60th level druid, a 55th level rogue, and a 45th level monk. That makes them a level 60 druid in my book, not a monk. The gear their monk wears was given to him by their higher characters. Their monk never had to suffer trying to get gear.

Nice post.

I am (obviously) not yet in a position to raid for something like this, but based on the better hybrid items that drop here would argue with any loot rules that awarded these to me when I am in that position. I'd want the primary puller to have them (gee I wonder what class that is? hmmmm not a caster.....).

Besides, I'll hold out for the envenomed mocs since they have both melee and caster stats ;-). (yeah right, as though I'll ever play enough to be awarded those!)

Dont monks have anything better to do than to post on everything this is a monk item! Before saying something as lame as its a monk item. Make sure to rate it to all classes. True it has low wieght but just because of that does not make it a monk only item. Rangers, Rogues, Bards, Paly's and Sk's would all get use out of this item. True warriors can get better easily. Therfore it is appropriate for them to be left out of rolls and most guilds do. Probably half of these posters will never even see these items drop. Or even be in ToV. So stop the ridiculous monk item chant on every item. I think every poster is rather sick of it. I know I am

lots of peeps can benifit from these...

if your a monk and want them ..roll like the others..its a nice thing to win..but dont claim stuff like your the only one there...if monks want them and no one else is allowed to roll..let the monks go and solo to get them then

as with all items..there is a list of usuable classes and races..that determins who can roll.

everyone has needs and monk needs are no more important than anyone elses

Its true that low weight does not automatically make anything a monk item.
However, a guild capable of going to ToV will want to equip their tanks and pullers with high AC/resist items first, SK and Monks (yes, SKs are good pullers, and you'll regret it if you don't want a good SK to help you get single pulls in many places). Between the two types of pullers, SK have a few more options for AC items compare to the monks.
It would be cool for Bards or any of the other wearable class to get a pair of these, but I would rather have the puller live and come back for pulls later on as well.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 12 2002 at 12:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hahahah thats some funny shiaz, just because monks want it they dont get it!

BTW this is a monk item in my opinion - warriors = main tank, monk = puller...who gives a crap what the others are wearing. warriors get better boots than these so they go to the monks!

You need to keep in mind that when people say these are good Monk boots we're talking about endgame here. When your killing the mob that drops these you will not be a level 51 Rogue wearing Woven Shadow. For Monks these are the end of the line, the best you can get. This may very well be the case for Druids, Rangers, Rogues too, but don't discount the fact that they are *the* item, for monks.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 24 2001 at 11:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think it's kind of funny how most of the posts here COMPLETELY forgot about the fact that rogues can wear AND benefit from these boots.
RE: Rogues
# Aug 08 2001 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
What your ignorant brain fails to realize is that Monks have next to no decent monk-only armor. Monks have to use mostly ALL/ALL stuff.

Need a little example?

Kael Quest Armor:
Deceiver's Boots (Rogue Armor)
AC: +24 Str: +2 Sta: +5 Agi: +4 HP: +20

Golden Star Slippers (Monk Armor)
AC: +10 Str: +7 Sta: +2 Magic Resist: +1 Fire Resist: +1 Cold Resist: +1 Poison Resist: +1 Disease Resist: +1 HP: +20

That's why most low weight items (even if it's ALL/ALL or Melee/ALL or whatever) are considered "Monk items"

Someone says rogue armor 24 ac and monks comparable piece 10 ac.What they alway forget to mention is that a rogue when adding that 24 ac piece it will give them what? like 30 to 40ac depending on level and defense skill?A monk adding a 10 ac piece will get about the same right?I mean I play an SK and use one hand weapons so carry a shield.I usually have a ton more ac than an equal level warrior.I usually have less ac than a lower level monk with 5 ac this and 7 ac that.It is the end ac you get that counts, but everyone always compares the base ac.Which is fine when comparing different armors that one class can wear, but makes no sense when comparing one piece of armor that different classes can wear.

Monks have naturally high AC. Rogues don't. Monk Kael armor has less AC than Rogue Kael armor. Sounds about right to me.

# Sep 14 2001 at 9:18 AM Rating: Default
I find this funny. Who really cares what you can or cant wear. Try having little to no real mid level quest armour, and having only planes and velious, if you want quest armour at all. Seems to me that even though it is low weight, I personally would do NBG. So stop whinning about how its "monk" or "warrior" or "shaman".
RE: Rogues
# Sep 27 2001 at 4:13 AM Rating: Excellent
These go to Monks first when they drop, unless they all already have(which is almost the point where we are)

The rest can whine all they want, the leaders know where to merit stuff(if ya guild does it that way)

NICE to have a real end game monk comment on this item, MONK POWA! Everyone else gets good armor before end game, monks get it at end game, WTG brotha! GOD ED ROCKS

Who needs them
# Jul 12 2001 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
ok these boots are magnificent... the only thing that amazes me are all the flames about who they should go to... these wold be great for monks because of the high ac and stats plus low weight, however monks do just fine with alot lower ac items to begin with since they have other things to help them not take nearly as much dmg in combat despite having things that only have an ac of 4 or so depending on how well they are equipped... Now if you think about it, what other classes can really use this? The first one that pops into my mind is rangers since they get shafted on armor and weapons... fact is warriors get best armor period, SK/Pal get some of the best weapons, monks get a TON of very useful skills such as FD and what not, not to mention that warriors can crit and cripple with everything they use and SK/Pal get once a day skills and monks get mend which can be very useful... Yes rangers get other things as well, however but the things they get are not nearly as useful at later lvls... ranger spells are rather lack lustre to say the least, they have the lowest AC and HP out of all the "melee" classes... Rangers need every single last drop of AC they can get since their defence skills cap off at 200... there are alot of guilds out there who will not even let a ranger in because of the low HP and AC, they are considered mana dumps for clerics and other healers... fact is rangers do alot of dmg granted not as much as say a monk or a rogue but they do enough to get alot of aggro on them no matter how much you jolt or stop attacking either way rangers die horribly fast due to a lack of stats in certain places... i am not saying that a ranger should automatically get these but two classes should be allowed ot lotto off or what not for this item first and that is a monk and a ranger since pretty much all the other classes get much better things anyhow... this item equals higher ac and higher HP for a ranger which woudl be very helpful to not only them but to the rest of the ppl they group with.. sorry if i left bards out of my mini rant but i consider them to be back up melee just about but not totally since they are not always in the front lines of battle all the time from what i have seen first hand i may be wrong... and shammy's and cleric i am sure they would not really need this item since they prolly have items that boost their wis in their foot slot... so my bottom line is monks and rangers should get to roll off for these even though a monk can live and make due without such high ac items but would make them all the better

just my 2cp worth
# Jul 02 2001 at 3:49 AM Rating: Good
Odd, that people always assume monks have great equip just because some idiot makes a lot of posts about how every item is great for monks. I know a lot of monks who dont have good gear at all 50+, they arent all going to ToV every single day to pick up high ac stuff. Highest ac boots a monk can really get before 50+ are DWBs, no monk i know would wear those, but the ones i see most monks wearing are 5ac or less.Shiverback boots are 6ac, PoG/thurg are 7, kael are 11 i think, and SS are 9 i believe. Paladin, for example, just the pog cuz i dont remember others, are 21ac. and thats just PoG.Kael boots are close in AC to destroyers for plate classes, though not as good, it is close. Chances are if your on a raid of this sort, you wont be rolling anyway, and this would more likely go to a monk than another class. If not to a monk, then maybe to a ranger or rogue, since they dont get that many high ac items either. I have to admit though, sometimes its lame seeing a monk getting items just because its best for their class, like on naggy raid. And also, postquam, you think a wisdom caster would want these boots?
Lets all roll
# Jun 06 2001 at 2:21 AM Rating: Default
I say everybody get out your dices and roll on these boots. Everybody who can wear them would love to own them.

(Also I prefer a pally or shadow knight in my group over a monk... I mean someone who can LoH/CH or dish out a large amount of damage in an instant, is better then someone who can play dead)
RE: Lets all roll
# Aug 29 2001 at 10:44 AM Rating: Default
lol, funny one, realy.

I can just agree Beemo there, i play a monk as well, hes 56 now and if you say you'll take a pally/SK over a monk because they can "dish out a large amount of damage" how much dmg deal monks then? uber monster large amount? :p and if you see the only ability in monk to "play dead" you'll have to learn alot
RE: Lets all roll
# Jun 26 2001 at 11:02 PM Rating: Default
I play a monk and not to sound biased or anything but no group would ever pick a sk or pal over a monk at that high level if pulling is an issue.

The damage output is not even closely comparable between an SK/PAL and a monk. And one CH every flippin hour wont make a difference. A monk deals large amonts of damage constantly. Also, in the few years I have been playing, no pal ever used LOH on me. They save those for them selves.

The comment on feign death...dumb. I am not going into the dozens of uses for FD. If you don't know, better ask someone.

The one thing I do agree with you on is that any tank should roll on this. Monks can't say that there is no good stuff for them anymore.
not really =/
# May 27 2001 at 7:12 AM Rating: Decent
actually since your class is near utterly useless at this stage of the game a monk would most definitely be considered way before a paladin for this item. what do you do in uber encounters, backup heal...maybe divine tank trakanon and pull him into his lair for the rest of us to kill...maybe loh a cleric or main tank once an eq day. monks pull, monks need stamina aka hp, monks need ac. sry bud =/ just tell it like it is.

Dont pull that monk crap on me. Just because something is low in wt doesnt mean it goes straight to monks. It is 28ac, 10str and 15sta.
My god, thats the best boots in the game for me (Level 55 Paladin).
So, since I can wear these boots, and, I'd sure as hell would use them, I get JUST as much a chance to get them as any monk PERIOD. Anything else is just plain wrong.
I say, if you can and will use it, then you should get equal oppertunity. None of that

not so much the weight
# May 18 2001 at 8:28 AM Rating: Decent
its not really that weight that makes it /panic for monks. cant beat these boots with anything else there is no better boots. any of the wars that want in on something like that can go do quest armor boots or pog drops. Think the raid leaders wil have a bit more sense than to let anyone else have that ahead of monks unless they are slacking bastards or something =)

I would just like to say that these boots would look good on anyone, and being a monk, I couldn't give two ***** in hell if the other melee classes wanted to roll on them. Just because the boots weigh very little doesn't mean that they should go to a monk, no questions asked. They beat out most of the ranger/paladin/bard/rogue boots that i have seen (I may not be up to date as i don't really care about ranger, paladin, bard, or rogue equiptment).

I guess that's just my 2 cents
Yeah, monks!
# May 09 2001 at 2:20 PM Rating: Decent
To the person that mentioned how this would be monk only if it was intended for monks - if you take a look at the equipment out there for monks, you will find a disturbing and clearly intentional trend. The items that are the best possible gear for monks (i.e. light weight, smokin AC and rockin stats) are usually ALL.ALL or damned close to it. YOu can speculate as to why - maybe Verant didn't want these items to rot if there weren't any monks in the zone that could use them, or rogues, etc. You just are not gonna see this class of gear be single class usable very often.

The weight on these items means yeah, a Monk should get be high in consideration for them. The AC makes a good case for tanks though - and I mean Warriors. Unless these classes have higher AC items already. Warriors should be gettin beat on more than monks - though monks get their share of beating. I don't know what other high end footwear there is out there for tanks, but if there's similar AC items for tanks types out there, the weight of these just screams 'Grats a_Monk_03'

And oh yes, clearly merit should be considered above all. No way would I award one of these to lowcontributormonk_05 just cause of his/her monkhood if putsoutbigtimepaladin_01 is there and could use.
