Easily Solo'd
# Jul 07 2004 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
He can be easily solo'd as a 65 druid. Simply find yourself either a wolf to charm or a mastedon to dire charm. Then harmo his guards, pull him single and use the pet to tank. Heal pet and you should do fine. I watched as a druid friend of mine did this :) for my bracers.

Ok lotta interesting reading.. but can anyone tell me what kind of graphic it has (chain, plate, leather) Would hate to do the quest and find out it has no graphic or something like that :)

Question?
# Nov 07 2003 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
Could a 52 Ranger 52 Cleric 51 Paladin 51 Monk and a 56 Shaman take the captain down?
RE: Question?
# Dec 10 2003 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
If the paladin has good equip for his level and the ranger can single pull, yes, you'd have a decent shot, provided the damn worms dont add. if the pal doesnt have at least 1100 ac i wouldnt try it though.
RE: Question?
# Nov 10 2003 at 5:24 AM Rating: Default
I would say odds are not in your favor, but worth a try.
Nope
# Jun 04 2003 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
Well we did not have much luck. A 65 druid pulled the captain, and a 65 paladin took on the captain. We had minimal buffs due to fear of KS.
After 8 minutes we had to evac. The giant was only 20% wounded and our druid was at 50% mana. A slow would have made the battle easy. We grabbed a Enchanter right away and within 10 minutes we were back. But the giants were gone and the scout was holding a bag.

# Aug 21 2003 at 8:52 AM Rating: Default
my wife and I have killed the Captain a few times.

Im 65Beast she is 65Druid.

I can slow him though usually takes a few tries, I dot/incapacitate and then throw in a few DD and she hits him with Dots and her nukes. we really have no problem at all just the 2 of us.

both sks and rangers tank far better than BSTs
I take it you have never grouped with a high lvl Beast?
I regularly tank lvl 63-68 Mobs in HOH and Tactics with NP at all which hit ALOT harder than the Captain.
A well equiped Beast can tank every bit as well as an SK and quite a bit better than a Ranger.

My wife usually prefers when i tank in exp groups because she spends less mana healing me on average than she does 9 out of 10 warriors we group with.

If you compare an 100aa Elemental geared beast to a Kunark equipped SK maybe... BST defense caps 20 points lower and armor of same grades isnt even comparable (for tanking purposes). No sane person would take a BST MA over a Pal, SK, or even a warrior that cant hold aggro for jack. I love having BST's in my group, as long as they are doing their job which is DPS, or gimp slower in some situations.

no offence but i run a 65 ranger and a 65 chanty duo and the chanter can draw agro off the ranger even if the ranger chain casts flamelick i duo in hoh i have not yet got dc or any of the pet commands my for my chanter. ranger is simple there for snare, dots and dps with bow.

i usually run ranger up hamony of nature both door guards then snare assist ranger on target and one tash will pull full agro from snare ive had a 65 necro that my enchanter has pulled agro off in mid kite :) uber spell called tashanian a 1 secnd cast time. pulls major agro and if you dont have arcane rune i sugest you dont use this method

but back to the topic a friend runs a 65 pally and 65 shammy i run a 65 ranger and 65 chanter if there is anything his shammy cant slow the chanter can. im pretty sure a pally with just under 9k hp can take out the captain while the ranger with 6k hp can take any adds with a chanter slowing and runeing
Mage and Cleric

I just did this quest with a 63 mage and 61 cleric. Cleric pacifies the 8 giants and mage malosini the Captain. Captain is very resistant and resisted malosini like 10 times so I gave up. FBoT DD does like 123 damage so mage helps heal the pet. Took about 10 minutes to kill Captain.

You should have no problem with him. Have the 60 ranger harmony the seven Kromzek Warriors and single pull the Captain. SK should tank, unless the ranger is MUCH better equipped. 65 Chanter slows. Cleric uses complete heals only (less overall agro). He will summon, so cleric should stand well back and use horse if possible. Everyone just melee, you guys will tear him up with that much melee DPS.

The Captain can be single pulled by anyone level 65 with no harmony. And I have helped to kill him many times and still never landed Magic Slow but disease lands every time. 40% not too bad. 61+ Enchanter or Druid with Shaman can easily duo Captain with a charmed pet.
RE: MOB Info pls :-D
# May 06 2003 at 5:30 AM Rating: Good
Dont expect to use the enchanter for slowing captain, as far as I know he's only slowable with shaman disease slow.

Instead use enchanter to charm a roaming mob for added damage.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 15 2003 at 5:29 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ROFLMAO! You think a 58 SK is gonna tank better than a 65 beast? Maybe if the beast was nekkid and the SK was maxxed on AAs. Hell, the beast's pet will tank this mob better than the SK. As a 59 beast, I out taunted and tanked most rangers and SKs several levels higher than me.
RE: MOB Info pls :-D
# Sep 20 2003 at 1:11 PM Rating: Default
Beastlords can't out tuant rangers if they tried. I even checked their BL spell list and there doesn't seem to be anything that causes major aggro besides slow. I doubt the slow will cause aggro after a shaman/enchanter/necro slows. But even if it does rangers still have snare, dps, flame lick, imbue weapon with dd+stun. Personally I think a ranger that knows what he is doing can out tuant a BL any day of the week.
RE: MOB Info pls :-D
# Oct 01 2003 at 8:18 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, they can. And it is a very simple spell to do it too. Flash of Light. FoL blinds the target, causing the mob to attack anyone within melee range. To grab aggro from someone, all a bst has to do is FoL it, run into aggro range, and smack it once.

At 51, I've taken aggro away from tanks who were getting their butts kicked. Admittedly, I only do it for a few seconds to keep them from getting killed, and to allow the healer time to CH, but it works every time. As long as I'm the only one in melee range.

Typically I announce that I'm going to FoL, cast, the tank backs up, and I get aggro. Hold it for a few seconds, tank gets healed, I back out as tank comes back in, tank gets aggro, and then we both beat it to death.

> Beastlords can't out tuant rangers if they tried

Allow me to disagree here. As a rng who kites a lot in PoV, I can assure you that very very few people (not to say no one) can get aggro off me if I don't want them to. If 5 casters/ pet classes (with hasted pets) who chain nuke (even 5.4k hp ones from a 65 wiz for exemple), DoT mobs can't get aggro off me, how could a single BST do that ? :)
Dru/Rng have a low level spell know as Flame Lick which draws insane aggro: 1.5 second casting time, 10 mana cost.

You just can't beat that :-)

Scout is an 8 hour spawn. She will come up on server reboot.

You must have high amiable faction to do the turn-in.

Seems like you need higher faction to get the tools in the first place than you need to turn the disc in to Scout Chick.

Since the changes in SS Leuz would not give me the quest at kindly, went back 3 times after doing a little solo faction work each time and never during the progression from kindly to warmly did he give the quest. As soon as I hit warmly he did give the text and the tools.
Second, I had heard many times that you could no longer single the Captain unless 61+ even with the new harmony. I was able to single the Captain no problem at 58 with Harmony of nature.
Just leave the Captain alone, inch yourself into casting range ( I did equip my Ivory claw necklace with extended range IV for the pull) and Harmony of Nature each of the giants behind him one by one then snatch him out of there with snare.

Did the Captain with:

60 Beastlord
61 Shaman (no topor & no malo)
61 Wizard (no manaburn)
57 Cleric (striped to 178wis)

Fight went rather smooth, wasnt exactly quick tho, but definately can be done with a lot less then a group.

This quest can be done with amiable faction. I did it tonight at amiable. We did this with 4 melee: 61 SK, 61 Rogue, 59 Pally and 59 SK, a 55 cleric and a 62 druid, with a chanter watching for adds. A shammy to slow might have helped but frankly we clobbered the Captain anyway.

Not too hard at all with the right group.

do you need ally cov faction to turn in the thing to the Scout or just amiable to CoV i was kinda confused cuz you just said amiable i dunno if htat means you were amiable to the scout or what cuz im amiable to CoV and threat to the scout
RE: Faction
# Sep 29 2002 at 1:04 PM Rating: Default
The scout is on Yelinak faction I believe so you have to do some of the smaller faction quests in order to get your Yeli faction up high enough to do the rest of the quest. Try the velium shipment quest with Sentry Kale, a little expensive for a faction quest but the boost is quite considerable compared to the other quests.

What it takes
# Jun 27 2002 at 3:52 PM Rating: Excellent
I completed this quest last night.

I had amiable faction.

A group of 5 killed the giant. Our group was composed of 55 warrior, 54 monk, 57 rogue, 60 druid and 60 cleric. We were able to kill him with this group. We were not buffed with any haste spells, or KEI and we obviously had no one to slow the Captain.

The fight was quite close. The key to victory (aside from the uber cleric) was I(55 warrior) was able to hold aggro for most of the fight (with the monk occasionally having to FD and the rogue occasionally having to evade). At the end of the fight our cleric and duid were OOM and I had about two thousand hitpoints left. Dang close. But fun and a great reward.

#Zaztik, Posted: Apr 21 2002 at 6:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Did this quest recently. The Scout is on a 10-12 hour spawn timer, and no she does not skip spawns. I had to ask around last time she despawned, and it was around 4am. So I logged on and I headed to WW and camped her starting at maybe 10am, and she spawned around 3:30pm in the afternoon. We did the Captain with two groups, with a 60 pally tanking.

# Nov 19 2001 at 2:56 PM Rating: Default
i disagree with that many just walking up to a guy in skyshrine and saying i will volunteer does not assure you that you will get the piece. Usually either 1 of 3 things happen, in the case of a guild taking this down it is awarded to the most deserving person, awarded to the person who spotted it, or rolled between the persons that need one of these pieces. This piece along with the other 3 are truely worth it for a guild to go after as much as they can for their members.

I can assure all you peeps who say 'ohh.. this is a monk item' or 'ohhh.. let's get this robe for our casters' that it is no harder for you to get the tool bag than it is for anyone else. You initiate the quest? You be getting the rewards.. why do quests like this always result in an argument over who should get it?
RE: lol.. want it?
# Nov 15 2001 at 11:27 AM Rating: Default
Sounding like you've KSed this guy a few times... or at least stole the giant from someone whose been prepping up for him. The person who initiates the quest shouldnt necissarily be the guy who is supposed to be doing the quest. As happened on our server, the giant was camped when another guild came in upon hearing that the giant was up for the quest, and proceeded to run right to the giant and hand in the parts and take the quest away from the person who was waiting there for hours before hand, and was just about set to go turn in there stuff. Unfortunatly we have a curropt GM heading our server, so justice and the honorable ending for this turn of events was not recieved. The bracer was not given to the person who rightfully deserved it.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but that's just the way it works... whoever has the forces there, hands in the tools, and engages the captain, has the kill. Until the tools have been handed it, the Scout is free game. If you've already handed in the tools, then you're talking about kill stealing, a different matter altogether.

I would go for this over PoG/Thurgadin/Kael bracer any day. The resists are simply amazing, much more important than 4 ac.
why default it to anyone?
# Aug 13 2001 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
Hehehe, everyone with the faction can go to lutz and get a toolbag. And do the quest themselves, why would it get defaulted to one class? Besides you need the help of 8 to 10 guildies all 55+ to do this, including a chanter, cleric, and druid. The chanter wants the robe and the druid and cleric wants the talisman which is totally outrageous range slot item.

So if you want a bracer go get the tool bag and camp out in WW. If you the one that calls in the troops you should get to do the turn in, reguardless of class.

Now, my monk would love to get this bracer too, but she only 40 and has a long way to go. But the talismen on my druid would be just awesome. I have helped 3 others get their bracers, since they are the ones that called in the troops.
RE: why default it to anyone?
# Sep 02 2001 at 11:08 PM Rating: Excellent
Normally, within a guild, you will say can someone help me with the scout, scout up :) Then you will get the item, no lotto unless your guild is a guild that lotto everything. If a bard or cleric ask can someone help me with the scout? yes, the robe will go to him normally. so, no points to argue who win it. Just my opinion :)

# Jul 15 2001 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
Not so much a bracer for any of the plate classes listed, because they can get better bracers more easily than they can get this one. But certainly good for monks/rogues/rangers.

Hitpoints are master at level 60. All the tanks in my guild have at least 1 of these. At level 60 war 1 stam is about 11hp, until maxed that is. Assuming they aren't at 255 unbuffed that is over 100 hp just from a bracer. I know they prefer this bracer over their SS quest bracers. But your right it is a bigger improvement for some classes.
RE: Maybe not monk only, but not for warriors
# Jul 30 2001 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, as a bard this is better (especially considering what is required) than any other bracer I can obtain. I would probably say the same for the SKs and Paladins. Can't say for warriors.
RE: Maybe not monk only, but not for warriors
# Nov 05 2002 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
actually the bracer should go to whoever does the quest. this isnt something that drops and you all roll on it, this is something planned out well ahead of time, and whoever does all the planning and putting together will get the bracer. i am a 53 monk putting this together now, and im sure when i call in for help taking down the giants there will be someone there that may deserve it more then me statistically but they wont get it, because i am the one that did all the quest work. so just shut up with all this "its a monk bracer" cause claiming equipment for a class is pissing everyone off.

According to the way the quest reads is that you need to hand the robe back to the scout. Below someone said that to get the bracer you hand it back to the commander. Which is the correct way? Don't want to mess up the quest and turn the item into someone that is just going to take it.

just to make sure ya'll understand this. yes, it's an awesome monk bracer - does that mean the monk should have first crack at it? no. it's also an awesome bracer for ANY of the classes listed. i won't say it's for warriors because of the high ac (though i could concivably justify it in several different ways) because thats BULLS**T.

its an awesome bracer - if you are working on this quest, then you are doing it with the backup of several guild members of fairly high lvls (we're talking high enough to get out to western wastes here. no small feat with siren's grotto in the way). plus, the high faction issues that are now presant make getting this bracer REALLY difficult.

do i want a pair of them? hell yes. is it likely to happen any time soon? hell no. i'm lvl 54, and i recognize this as an item that is damn difficult to get. just congratulate who ever gets it, and enjoy the game. level up, and maybe you'll get one someday.
