#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2002 at 10:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Coming from one of the end game mobs, this ring sucks. Nice ac, but that's about it. +100ish mana is pathetic if you have to kill Yelinak for it. Leave the wis/int off of it and add 5svall - then it would be halfway decent. In regards to it being for cleric/etc/etc/etc... get a life and don't start that up.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 08 2001 at 1:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Cleric ring.

Firstly, all casters including priests can use AA points for critical nukes, and secondly, if you had actually got critical nukes, you would know dex has nothing to do with it. Each level of spell casting fury has a higer percentage of crits.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 01 2002 at 2:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wrong there Hob. Dex does relate to how often you crit. I have seen wizards crit on up to 35% of thier nukes with a Boon of the Garou and a shaman Dex buff. And I have to admit, your right, all casters do get crit abilities, but the wizard gets it taken three steps above what any other class does other than the mage.

Look i also heard about a guild that setup there warriors and casters to dectroy a dragon. Verant found out and scraped the guild and gave the hole guild a warning. verant just mad because they dident think about)
level 91

I just want to know how people can know if anything is level 64 or 70.. or 65 and so on. Anything 63 and up is red so for all we know everything that is red to level 60 is "63 or higher", how do you find out it is exactly level 70?
GM's tell you?

hmmm exploit no. When i cast a pbaoe near a guard in my younger days he did not exploit me he killed me. Dont see why verant changes the rules in the game like this. A lvl 70 dragon should have known better the effects of his magic, and as such face the music like we all have to. Can anyone say unbalance?

I believe you have pointed out exactly why this strategy IS an exploit.
Yelinak is a programmed entity, therefore controlled by a program. Saying that he should have to face the consequences of his AoE breath ... is like saying "Hey, if you train a bunch of mobs to Yelinak, and aggro him, the AI Script will cause him to AoE Breath and Aggro the mobs on him" ... you are taking advantage of limits placed on Yelinak by the programmers. It wouldn't exactly work out well if they coded him NOT to AE when an NPC was in range, otherwise that would lead to further exploits.

Note: This is not the same as the whole "Train Grimfeather to the Guards at the Tower in NK"-strategy. Why? Because the AI for Grimfeather as well as the AI for the guards dictate that they will aggro each other. Where as in the Yelinak case, the golems would leave Yelinak alone, aside from the fact that you take advantage of programmed constructs ... read: Exploit

(Abstracting everything here.....)

Sorry man, I would have to say that this should NOT be considered an exploit. Or if it was considered so, then PCs shouldn't be at fault if an NPC "exploits" it's programming to kill them. (Before you scoff, consider my example: I was in my mid-high 30's and was walking through the ry'gorr fort in EW along the wall to avoid agro. Apparently the dwarf war thing was bugged so all the high level giants and orcs were perma-spawned outside of the fort. Before I'd gotten within 20 feet of the exit of the fort, I heard a bunch of agros and was dead within seconds. I'd had a quad of frost giant elites come THROUGH a wall and kill me. To add insult to injury, I petitioned in the slight hope I might get a full rez, but the GM said that they could not do so b/c I was killed do to a "pathing exploit" (those WERE the exact words.)

More importantly, players should not be punished for taking advantage of a poorly designed AI. VI chose NOT to take the time to create a truly flexible and well designed AI from the start, and has since been fighting it by updated bits and pieces here and there instead of coming up with a new design. Ideally, the situation that should occur is: Players bring a bunch of golems into dragon's lair. Dragon recognizes these people it hates are fighting it's minions. Rather than use it's AoE on them (especially considering their number) it should take advantage of the fact that it has help there already and use it's other effects. Either that or the dragon should be willing to sacrifice it's minions to take down the players, but be willing to accept their revolt (or in the case of (assumed) mindless golems, kill them, as I would assume they would just absorb the damage).

This kind of logic is a little more complicated than the current system to code, but not too significantly so, and you could use the same fuzzy logic engine across the vast majority (if not all) the NPCs in the game with different rules. I would make the argument roughly half of Verant's fixes have been legit, the other half were attempts to cover up their flaws.

EQ at this point is a series of patches with patches upon patches upon patches, and so things can no longer be easily fixed, but such is life...

Actualy Keep this in mind. EQ is an ever changing game. We learn and so do the monsters through the Verant team. We get new stuff and so do them monsters. I look at it like this. That dragon is not stupid so It might have made that mistake once but it will learn from its mistake. After all thats why we call it AI. Granted that the Verant team has to do it but same thing in my book.

Next this was not a bug but can be called an exploit but not cheating one. There are predictable and unpredictable actions to many things in eq. Take a RL examble of an animal. It might bit you it might not but corner it and see what it does. Very likely to get bit. After all war is fought on those same concepts. So why can't we fight our EQ wars the same way? They where simply "exployting" a predictable action not a bug. It is actualy used in more places than you think.
How can this be exploitation?
# Apr 25 2001 at 2:43 PM Rating: Default
How many of us have used the guards to get a creature from taking us out? Seems quite common during newbie/lowbie status.

So these guys modified their technique to handle a high level mob...so what? That is not exploitation...that is thinking outside of the box. Also, why shouldn't creatures have consequences for casting area effect spells like we do?

I say good job!!!
nice tactic

I actually agree with you. (I made the post about Hoss) I think it was very clever of them doing what they did. EverQuest is about having fun and I bet that was a total blast killing a level 70ish dragon with 5 people!

Severe jealousy from other guilds on Druzzil however followed that killing. It turned into one nasty flame war.

Moral of the story? ITS A GAME! Play it and shut up :)

Ok people. Listen.. carefully to me. Vane did NOT exploit Yelinak. One guild did; Hoss of Druzzil Ro. They killed him with 5 people.

How they did that was train several high level golems near Yelinek, then attacked him to induce his breath... which in turn aggroed the golems onto Yelinek. When Yelinek was low on health they jumped in and finished him off with the assumption that level 55+ mobs will NEVER poof.

Now stop posting bullsh*t unless you know the facts. thanks.

I don't consider that an exploit myself. It's not like they used a game bug to kill him. They brought some big guys over, the dragon foolishly attacked them, and they fought back. Seems like strategy to me, but I'm sure I'm wrong as always.

its not an exploit. thats how everyone kills lodizal... they train him to a gnoll camp.. he can be soloed this way if you're really good... and lucky. or 1 group if you're only semi good.
Vane didn't exploit Yelinak
# Apr 24 2001 at 12:16 PM Rating: Default
They had 40+ level 60 people there. I've seen the screenshots of the fight and the aftermath. Vane is a pretty respected group of folks on E'ci. They don't walk on other people, they don't train, they pretty much just stay to themselves and kick ***.

On top of that, anyone who has gone through skyshrine very much in the last couple of months has probably seen there playing with him working on a strat, apparently it all payed off.

Congrats to Vane on Yelinak.

IF they cheated
# Apr 24 2001 at 7:34 AM Rating: Default
not sure if it's true or not. but if yelinak was killed using an exploit. the items should be poofed from inventories and warnings place on accounts. exploiting is cheating and should be dealt with publicly and loudly. If they didn't exploit to do this then all i can say is... WOW!
RE: IF they cheated
# Apr 24 2001 at 8:35 AM Rating: Default
The thing about this is nobody knew they were using an exploit. So technically, it wasnt an exploit. Verant just screwed up the dragons movement ability when they first put him in. They fixed it recently though.
Exploits
# Apr 24 2001 at 2:47 AM Rating: Default
It is true that Yelinak was killed with 5-6 people by a few guilds, I am not sure if Vane is one of them, but I heard that it was. There was an exploit but it has been changed already and is undoable, so I guess they just lucked out on finding something like this. Although it is kinda cheap.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 23 2001 at 10:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They did it with exploits that no longer work, they killed him with 6 people

I'm not saying that your lying or not. I don't know, as I don't know the guild nor the server. BUT I will say that it was quite rude of you to post that. There was no need for it. It doesn't help anyone and if you had the decency to put your name by your posts (or register like a good person), it would just go to shame you. As you should be shamed.
Vane

Vane is the nicest guild you would ever want to know .. it is an asian guild and they are very good at what they do. NICE ring by the way.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 5:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) All Asian? Do they let white people in? Or are they all blatent racists... I thought that it wasnt allowed in EQ, but, oh well... kinda like this big fab with the whole "azn" thing... its stupid... I should walk around with a big thing like ****-azn on my back pack or something... its just stupid...
RE: Vane
# Apr 24 2001 at 12:00 PM Rating: Default
The only racist here is you with your stupid comments and assumptions about them preventing "white" people joining. There are plenty of non English speaking guilds around and most of them don't care what colour you are. The only important thing is you speak the language they use in guildchat. So all those "white" germans and french have the exact same rules for their guilds as the japanese ones.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 07 2001 at 7:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually the reason there are asian only guilds is becuase of the TIME ZONE? Ever think of that you IGNORANT *****. stop posting your stupid bs, take a second to think before you ramble.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 23 2001 at 9:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Umm...yeah, ok, I'll just pick ya up a couple at the corner store... oh wait...except that this dragon is really f*ckin hard...oh yeah, and it's lore...so yeah.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 3:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This was written by someone with **************** no sense of humor. It disgusts me when people go out of there way to be a smart ***, but its pretty cool when they make themselves look stupid doing it.
OMG!?! off Yelinak?

I Congrat Vane for taking down Yelinak. He is the 70 dragon in Skyshrine....

That is some undertaking.
