I discoverd this bonus side effect, like most such discovers, by accident. I had cast O'Keils on myself, the forgot to retarget and hit myself with Temperate Flux. Oops. It took off the O'Keils. So later in Sol A I tested to see if it would do the same for a mob. As soon as I saw, someone geting burned each time they hit, I used the staff and sure enough, it removed their buff. Very nice side effect I think. It will also remove invisiblity. It does not remove AC and HP sheilds though.

Your race/class/diety cannot use this item

I tried equiping, and right clicking from inventory.

Oh well.

I get this staff with my warrior, and when I right click it said something like you can't use it or your deity/race/class not allowed it.
So non-wizard dont waste your time getting this one, like I did.

Completed this quest today hardest part for me was getting the hearts takes awhile to get them wizards to spawn. The quest is given by gardern and there is a typo in the quest text he ask for a staff of ro there is no such item. Just hand him in the 4 items, and you'll get your staff. Sony should fix this typo cuz it misleads & makes you think you need 5 items if you read the text.

I have been working on this quest off and on for a while I am a lvl 39 Wiz with 200 int and you know what, the only part of this quest that matters in is the Rod part.
The Rod is easy at lvl 34 which is when I did it, just bind at the tower... stand as far to one side of the tower as you can and nuke the skel. This will pull his pet and him but if you do it right you wont get 2nd. If you have all your resist spells up and some items... familiar etc. then you will have little to no trouble. remeber to kill the skel first as the pet will just keep trying to root you until you kill it, where as the Skel will nuke you:P If you have your skin up you will not even take damage.. or a min amount.
As for the hearts, well this is what I did. I got me a 51 Beast lord from my guild and she kicked the crap out of all the little pricks that meant to harm me. I was happy to get my hearts and she was happy to get the ore that drop off the gobbies. Just remember, when questing.. let your help have eveything but the item you need and they will help you anytime you need it :) My help even sold the junk loot and we made 50 - 70 pp each from all the kills. I even got 2.5 blue xp from the killing which I didnt expect. Thanks Knikkers!!! You Rock!!

Just finished multi-questing it on the same account. Monk turned in the hearts and rod, and the wizard turned in just the Darkwood Staff after logging out the monk.

Heart of Frost found near jail. There were plenty of wizards around. Definitely wasn't a problem for me.

Heart of fire was found on second wizard in Solusek's Eye (SolA).
Loc of first: -850, -500. It was down the tunnel towards a dead-end I believe.
Loc of second: -820, -367. Second jail cell on the right. He is the one who had the heart for me.

Best of luck to all wizards trying to get this staff.

JMTC. This staff is probably the most used item in the wizard ******** How so? Well.. at 65 I still use it to pull mobs while on the run. It is instant cast which makes all the difference in the world since you can "run by" pull. You dont have to stop. You just right click from inventory and the mob chases you. Very nice when you are on horseback etc.. and stopping just means a slow restart to a run, or you are in a hot spot with other nasty mobs and stopping to cast some agro getting spell will just put you in harms way longer than is good for you.

I have also used it in lowbe places to pull the entire zone to AE them all. For example when I messed up some faction with emerald warriors and wanted it back I went into crushbone with my wizard just running around targetting while running and right clicking the stick. Pretty soon I had the entire zone running around after me. Since I was too high to agro any mob by proximity this saved me a ton of headache in stopping to hit a mob to get agro.

After single casting an AE and killing the entire zone at once I did it again and again and was very quickly back in good graces with EW.

I have also used this staff while quad kiting in TD with the raptors. To quad them would not be possible without the staff cause you would have to stop and cast some other spell. And what you dont want to do is stop when you have 3 raptors already on your tail.

I reiterate. If you are a wizard.. and don't have this staff.. I don't care what level you are.. you are not a good player.

This isn't meant to be a weapon and it really doesn't matter how much it lowers their resistance. You use this baby to pull mobs! Keep in inv and make a hotkey for it. If you have two blue bobs standing near each other you can single pull using the staff effect. i can pull singles better than anybody with this baby cept a Monk. So if your a solo wiz and want to pull without adds its a must. Don't think you can agro a mob off someone with this once its after somebody. it won't do a darn thing, wanna save someone use your tishans clash or a root.
RE: Ok
# Aug 24 2003 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
I picked mine up recently, but have found that when I try to single pull, I still get agro from any mobs close by. Is there a techniqe to it? What am I missing? It's still quite invaluable for the debuff - but for the life of me I haven't had one 'single' pull (from a group) with it yet...

Any advice always welcome...

You are probably pulling social mobs, try on something that is surrounded by mobs that wont aggro when the mob in the middle is aggroed

Here are a few more uses for this awesome staff.

Raising faction - just click every giant and dire wolf in Greater Divide and keep running (make sure you have SoW, Jboots or RS3. After a while, all the mobs will give up chasing you. Find a suitable safe spot, sit back and have a beer. As people kill the giants and dire wolves, your faction with Claws of Veeshan will rise. Works with Coldain mobs too. Wait for 30 mins, then rinse and repeat - i.e. zone out and start again.

Another great way to raise faction is to use the staff to pull dire wolves or giants (not both at the same time) and quad kite them.

I have also used the staff to pull mobs in AE groups.

This is one of the best items a wizard can get in the game. Use it wisely and you will never regret the time spent getting the quest items.

hmm wiz only? but guess what.. anyone can use OMG WOW!! ... so relax a little, just cause it dosen't have your class/race listed dosen't mean you can't use it, alot of items are like that..
RE: jeez..
# Dec 02 2002 at 4:04 PM Rating: Decent
The star of eyes can be used by anyone because it is usable from the inventory slot if I'm not mistaken. Any item that requires being equiped to be used (a great majority of them) can't be used by someone who's not listed as a class/race capable of such.

I'm not sure how it works, but I just got my Staff yesterday. Yah the effect is sweet, but stats-wise I could use better in my Primary slot. So just to test it, I cast from my inventory - and it works fine! So that cant be how things work, sorry :(

Mine dropped off a mob called just 'A Goblin Wizard' (no Ice) and my tracker said he couldn't see any 'Ice Goblin Wizards' on track in the zone.
You will normally find 2 or 3 of these in the king room, just turn right after you go through the portcullis type door and they'll be in the corner ahead.

Multiquesting 'does' work :)
# Jan 31 2002 at 3:08 AM Rating: Decent
Heyas...
just multiquested this nice item for my Wizzard, and yes it does work :)
I got all the Quest Items my Mainchar and gave the Lambert stone to my Wizzard & turned it in for the Staff of Ro...
After that i placed both chars near Gardern, turned in the two Hearts and Rod with my Main, then logged on my wizzard... turned in the Staff of Ro... and *BooM* got my Staff of Temperate Flux =oP
My little Wizzard twink is only lvl.16 and can't use it yet (boohoo)... but good to have it already hehe :)

I multiquested JBoots also for my Wizzard at lvl.1, no problemo... Gonna love it :)

Poyzn Phantazy (lvl.51 DE necro on Vallon Zek)

It's called a taunt stick.

An anonymous post on May 25 had it right. This is one of the most important items in the wizard's ******** That post slightly exaggerates, as it says it enables a wiz and a single melee type to kill ANY outdoor mob. Actually, it's any outdoor mob that won't resist snare or kill your melee partner before you get snare to stick, or come with too many of its friends. Still, pretty impressive.

And there are other situations.

Your cleric just complete-healed the tank, and the mob wasn't taunted enough to let that go unanswered. Someone has about two seconds to get enough aggro to convince the mob that the cleric isn't worth killing. You can cast a little nuke that won't get the mob's attention, or not quite have time to cast a big nuke that would suffice if you had time to cast it. Either way, the cleric is dead. But the taunt stick has a casting time of zero. You can inflict a pesky little debuff on the mob as fast as you can click the thing. The mob (already snared, of course) starts trudging toward you, until it gets rooted, mezzed, or killed.

You're almost oom, just enough mana to snare, but you're grouped with a magician whose pet and little nukes can kill the thing -- except that the pet can't tank it that long. Just like the game plan with a melee type.

My necro has been saved from several deaths by a wiz with a taunt stick. Fear didn't take, and I was too laggy or encumbered to run a bit and try again. I could get the mob off the wiz with fear, and he could get it off me with taunt.
This staff is not worth it
# Nov 18 2001 at 2:41 PM Rating: Default
I was in the arena yesterday... a wizard used this staff's effect on me and it lowered my heat resist by 6.... nice for a lower level wizard but for -6sv heat (note that PvP has now made debuffs do more debuffing with a previous patch) this staff is not really worth all the effort... quests are fun though and they give you a reason to go exploring so I would recommend this quest to anyone who wants to travel around to several places.
RE: This staff is not worth it
# Sep 27 2002 at 10:46 PM Rating: Good
Just fyi we dont use this staff to lower resists. Its primary used as a pulling device when quad kiting. And it is MORE than worth it. If this was made droppable and quest stopped it would most certanly got for 10k+
RE: This staff is not worth it
# Jan 14 2002 at 12:53 PM Rating: Default
While your post may be factual, it does not correctly represent the full story. Bear in mind that the effects of spells vary in PvP combat from actual PvE effects. Further, it does not represent the Hate factor.

The worth of this stick lies in it's pure taunt ability, the capacity to rack up fast aggro with no mana... I often have to suck up aggro so a druid or chanter can root or Mez. Best case scenario it takes 5-7 seconds castng time. When a Ry'Gorr elite is smacking for 110 or so per hit, 5 seconds can be too long.

Yes, this is MQ able. I just finished MQing it for my wizard, who was 16 at the time. Give the wizard the lambent stone. Let them turn the staff they recieve for the lambent stone in last, and you turn in the rest, and you're set.
