i have the PoG version of the boots, the effect seems like crap but ive found it much more useful than i thought i would. im looking to upgrade soon, but ill still carry my PoG boots around for resist and effect reasons. never know when a monk wants some bandages, or when soloing you need to get your HP up quick.
Most mages that get this robe will be 55+ as you need to get the silk robe fron HoT in ToV. So most will have Cadeau of Flame. The only time I would use tis is if I'm power leveling a twink. Is Verant no advocating this? How is it that the Necromancer, Cleric, Shaman, and Druid Robe/BPs all have 54+ spell effects and the Magician, WIzard, and Enchanter's robes have a 49- spell effect?
Anyone else notice that the robe blank drop in temple of veeshan testing halls, to make this robe, seem to be broken. As a guild we must have been round there 40-50 times, and had at least 10 plate, 10 leather, 10 chain chest pieces. Not 1 robe however. In fact of all the pro dragon guilds on Cazic Thule, i've only heard of 2 robes dropping total. To me it seems blatantly wrong that the robe isn't dropping in proportion to the other chest pieces. I'd be interested to hear if there's the same sort of issues on other servers, as i've tried bug reporting it, putting it on the official eq forums, and even advising the guides so they can report it up the line. As of yet i've still to get any sort of acknowledgement that they're even looking at this..
Yea the drop on this is nerfed. We've gotten about 7 plate, 10 chain, 5-6 leather, but only 2 robes. It does drop, its just nerfed. Verant hates casters, if you didn't know already.. 8)
honestly i believe you guys are making up numbers.... my guild farms ToV like crazy but lately been in PoM. All are casters on loot but 3 or 4 (thats about 10-12 others) have their SS robes, and weve had about 2 total leather tunics drop. We have plenty of people in full SS armor, but leather is the most rare, from most common to most rare its plate, chain, silk, leather.
This Doesn't get droped. NEVER! I killed this guy 21 times.(I'm not kidding) and my friend on tunare killed 7times nothing ever droped. btw does anyone have the screen shot of this robe? )
I strongly suspect the idea that Frankel drops this robe is a hoax. I suspect for these reasons:
1. Frankel can be attacked and killed by players who do not own the Velious expansion. Do you really think that VI allow players who do not own SoV to procure this incredible piece of NO DROP equipment?
2. The risk vs. reward doesn't seem adequate. To do the Skyshrine quest you have to go farm rats in Dragon Necropolis, then kill mobs in ToV. Why would anybody EVER do that tough quest if they could just get 6-12 high level people together and kill this gnome a few times?
3. As game designers, VI usually does try to make equipment drops make at least a little sense from a roleplaying standpoint. Why on earth would a gnome pirate possess a magician robe that is granted only to those who've proven themselves to the inhabitants of Skyshrine?
4. Frankel cons green, kicks quite a lot of *** for his level, and is 100% MR. This is usually done to discourage players from killing certain mobs like guards in newbie zones. i.e. VI doesn't want us killing little Frankel.
5. Despite the points above, I've made two attempts on Frankel. The first time, I just attacked him with my wife (55 magician and 55 necro.) Neither of us could stick a single spell to him, and we both went through several pets just to get him down a quarter bubble of health. We realized we couldn't possibly beat him and gated out.
Our second attempt on him, we had a pretty strong crew gathered to kill Cazel for an enchanter friend of mine. I talked them into hitting Frankel as well. That was 4 55+ tanks in uber equipment tearing into this gnome and he held his own pretty darn well. The enchanter Tashed him and I still couldn't stick any spells on him.
When we killed him he gave zero faction adjustments, zero experience, and zero loot, not even cash. So Frankely (hehe sorry), I don't believe anybody camped this guy from level 55 to 58 because from what I've seen, he's darn near impossible to kill, and doesn't give any experience in that level range anyway.
That said, I'll continue to kill him whenever I get the people together, just because its kinda fun, and you never know, I could be wrong.
First off... is there really a pirate named Frankie in S Ro? If so, where?
I think some people have him confused with Frankel the Pirate in NORTH Ro, who does guard the boat dock to Velious.
If I am wrong PLEASE let us know. -----------
Ok, so in the hopes of a sweet robe, I assembled some friends last night to take on Frankel. Group consisted of two 53 mages, a 57 wizard and a 55 enchanter. After the first fight we added a 52 cleric to keep the good pets alive longer.
The fight that ensued was definitely fun, but by NO means easy. The enchanter was not able to stick a single spell, except for Tash. So that, unfortunately, meant we couldn't slow him. The mages stuck purely to chain casting pets and lava shielding them. Not a single mage nuke hit. During the first fight (without cleric) each mage went through about 8 pets each. Yeah, the lvl 51 earth pet beasts--about 16 of them. The wizard was able to stick his high level lures on Frankel.
Once we got the hang of it, we killed him MUCH easier the second and third time. Adding up nuke damage, approximate pet damage, and lava shield damage, this guy has well over 20k hps. The wizard alone did about 10k in lures. Frankel beats himself to death on DS, and pets melee for 30-58 dmg a hit. The fight itself lasted about 5 minutes. And all this to take on a mob that cons grass-green at 53. Oh yeah, he max hits for 177, and backstabbed my pet for 517. Ouch.
Net result? NOTHING. He didn't drop a single thing. We gave him a 2hb staff and a 2hs sword in the hopes of slowing him down. He did not wield them, nor did it slow him down. He did, however drop the items that we gave to him when he died.
If anyone has recently had some good loot from him (ahem, ROBE).... or thinks they got experience from him at 50+... or knows where this Frankie in S Ro is.. please post.

Im a 52 Mage, Do you think I can solo this guy effectively? I have good Coldain faction, do you think I will have to kill him so many times that I go from Amiable to Dubious or worse to get it? Last, I have the torn enchanted robe from Kael, but I would rather do this one. Can anyone CONFIRM where the pristine emeralds drop? Please only post if you know what you are talking about.
An orange robe! Woot! Finally an original color for mages!!!! They ruined our apothic cause of that stupid advisor robe...my next stop...ToV to get the stuff for this robe heh
Better check with VI again since now on the test server there is a shaman lure spell. Guess VI has decided that it only cares about certain classes not be touched and to heck with rest.

well its just alot easier to use boon to dmg sheild all the tanks then i use the robe effect to cast on any pets in the group. the only time i realy get any use out of the robes effect is when im hanging out at the tunnel . i wear the robe for the stat bonuses but atleast the effect isnt summon bandages or even worse reclaim energy.
if im not mistaken, the spell is castable on other players, which would mean the effect could be cast on other players, so basically mages can keep there melees buffed with a dmg shield during the entire battle, without wasting a spell slot or mana for it.
I sure hope that the new expansion will bring some new robe graphics. The old ones are cool and all, but we certainly need some new ones. Every robe is simply an old robe texture with new colors, which is cool I guess... but I want new ones :P If I'm not mistaken, this is the same look as the Mage robe from the plane of hate (maybe a bit brighter.) Ah well... nice stats and all, slightly odd effect (good for all those mage tanks out there though) but sure coulda used a new look.
No, the lure line of spells is limited to Wizards only. VI has firmly stated that there will be no classes that can have any lure spells besides the Wizard.
