I love how a bunch of people are saying that talisman is better, but for just fishing a bit(and killing Faydedear{which u need for Dru Epic anyways} ), you cant beat a TRADEABLE +18 Wisdom item, so, if u really like the Talisman too, why not just go get both lol, seriously, 33 Wisdom is worth your time :)
Just on stats alone, yes the Talisman is better for cleric or druid. But one aspect of the Totem that I really like is.....IT'S TRADABLE! Whereas the Talisman is NO DROP.
So sell it or pass it along to a guildy when you don't need it any longer.
The Tradable feature makes this infinitely more desirable than any otherwise close competitors. I am looking to buy one from a guildie (already level 65 and doing planes quests) who will sell to me cheap (20K) when they pick up a better no drop item in the planes. I can't wait, this will boost my wis fin that slot from +4 (preserved owlbear eye) to 18. That is going to push me past 250 wis so I can start thinking about trading out those items +Wis only items that you buy just to pump your mana as high as possible without spending the plat that +Mana items require.
I have a new philosophy on items now that I can afford some high end tradable stuff. For any given slot, only buy items that will be replaced by no drop items (in other words the best tradable item you can ever realistically get your hands on). I am so sick of trading up for incremental increases in stats and then leaving my comp on when I go to work in the morning so that I can sell my castoff gear at something more than fire sale prices.

Y'all are crazy this is obviously an ubah ogre item note the -8cha. sheeesh some ogres would kill for that stat. Truthfully why do some folks post on these boards? wanna know the best class for this item?? follow these steps step 1 look at the item and stats
step 2 decide if you would like this item for your character. If yes move to step 4 if no continue to step 3
step 3 move on and find something else to do with your time other than trying to TELL other folks, who don't care about your 2cp, who would want this item and who wouldn't.
step 4 do the quest get the reward live happily ever after
I don't agree sawzallz. From peoples' opinions, you can find out many things about the item. If an item looks good, but everyone on the forum says it sux because of X, Y, and Z, then I won't get it. But if It looks ok, but everyone on the board says it rocks due to X, Y, and Z, then I will consider getting it.
BTW: You are a bit Hypocritical, your posting you 2 cents flaming people who post their 2 cents. Whatever...
i could be wrong but halflings have a low charisma too at the start. Mine was only 50 a halfling druid while Ogre Shadow Knights have it at 42 hell id get to there with this fine item.

I DO play a ranger and i would use this item, maybe not if i am pulling but in high end raids ranger's aren't pullers so my bow would go into my bag to allow for this.

On any high end raid a ranger should be in back with the clerics shooting the raid mobs, especially if you are over lv 55. If you would wear this over using a bow well i am glad your not in my guild cause you quickly would be LFG (Looking for Guild)!
Thanks, for the imput. Could you please tell me how to play my char also? You would be the one in my group telling my warrior to put away my wurmmy because there worthless after level 40. Then myself, or you would be LFG. Some people actually play there own way. I will put your guild on the list of guilds not to join. Now you post and say thats ok we wouldnt want you =)
Considering the USA has Democrats/Republicans see-sawing back and forth with absolutely no major changes in how the country is run........yes,people here can be quite stupid. LOL But enough with politics,...you forget that many players in EQ now are under 16,and I believe most are under-achievers(over-achievers tend to study rather than play games after school). So instead of calling someone "stupid",why not expand your own mind to figure out "why" they're ignorant to information you already know. Or,is that concept over-your-head for you? hehe :-)
Was just thinking how it works out that this item is almost entirely useless to a ranger, when the stats are exactly what we'd want. The reason being that you'd have to swap out with a bow, and when you swap them around, dropping 18wis and 20sta only increases your max hp and mana, so even though they'll go up, you'll end up starting every fight down a little, if you pull with bow.
So it's not just that this item is much better for wis casters, it's usually nothing more than 5ac to a ranger, possibly to pally or SK too. Next time you win the meat on a pickup faydedar raid, don't even consider keeping it.

Posted:Dec 13 2001 at 6:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This item isn't uber, it's only PCed at about 40K, but it does give you a huge shot of wisdom to free up some other slots for resist items. I've heard of a 15 wis range item with good resists from a SS quest, I think it's a Talisman of Benevolence...much better than this. I currently have a Ceremonial Stick of Smudging, 3 wis 30 mana +10 MR/FR/PR and 3ac. Now granted using the Smudge Stick is about a 140 mana loss, but those resists are too nice to pass up on a pvp server, especially in RANGE. I usually hover between 180-190 wis and 100+ in all resists unbuffed, and do fine and don't go oom all the time :P Find items that give some small wisdom along with really nice resists, and get a lot of raw mana with those resist items, and you'll do better than sticking a bunch of pure wis items on yourself. Unless you're lvl 40 and like to quad bloodgills :)
Joo jus say dat cuz joo killed'm offmirs, so dem no likes joo =P teehee, ressist or not, i would gladly wear this handy little item, as like the previous post said, Sta = mana for shaman. whats 140 mana to you turns into 210 for me =) Though i'm not impressed by the neg Cha of it. =/
Kathrin Spiritbear 52 Oracle Tallon Zek Knight of the White Rose
This is a nice but not uber item. I wouldn't use it. I already have enough Wisdom (from epic, Lodizal Shield, Emeraldscale Tunic, Vibrating Gauntlets of Infuse, Templar's Leggings, etc.). I'm looking for resist gear and +mana gear. A mana+30 item in the range slot is better for me.
If you are a 60 cleric and still wearing a emerald dragonscale bp.. then you SHOULD wear a othmir totem.. there are not a lot of ac items for range out there and the 18 wis would let you free up your breastplate slot for something with more ac.. Your hate bp would be better than a Emerald bp.. so would a PSC or go get a breastplate of vindication if you cant get something w/more than 45 ac.. the saves and hp are nice too.
For mana casters, the Othmir Prexus Totem sucks compared to the Talisman of Benevolence (Wis+15 Mana+55). I've got the Talisman now, and my Wisdom is 254, with another 600 mana from items.
Yeah, I'd like to upgrade my BP, but I'm still going to do it by maximizing mana. I'm trying to get the Skyshrine BP (mana+90). I think clerics need mana, resists, and HP for high-end raids, not AC.
I just looted the Sea Dragon Meat. I'm going to do the quest, then give it to someone in my guild who needs the Stamina.
<quote>Yeah, I'd like to upgrade my BP, but I'm still going to do it by maximizing mana. I'm trying to get the Skyshrine BP (mana+90). I think clerics need mana, resists, and <B><U>HP</U></B> for high-end raids, not AC</quote>
what about these 20 STAMINA that will give you more hp ??
I don't recall seeing anything about raising the int/wis caps. If you could provide a link that'd be great.
I do have to agree that 18 wis in the ranged is amazing. That allows other slots to be swapped out with higher ac/resist gear depending on the circumstances.
Have a look on eqcasters mana calc. Post 200 wis/int now gives 5.8 mana /stat rather than 1. Pre 200 ranges from 0-2(lvl 1) to 12 (lvl 60) per int/wis.
I'd have to assume that a high level cleric would find this most beneficial. Anything with AC range slot is certainly somthing to be treasured and the 18 wis allows more painful slots (such as bracers; neck) to be swapped out for more useful ac or resist items... or better yet, +mana gear. This is only considerd a fantastic item because of the slot its in... range is a wonderful place for those stats. Any hybrid that would consider passing this over is rather foolish as well... STA and AC in your range... again.. the slot its in... MmmmMM
Maynardd, I don't think you actually play a cleric do you? You look like that type of player who makes life on raids for me sooo hard cause you only sees classes by their main stat (in this case wisdom), always prolly loudly stating they should never roll on anything that dosent have that stat... /sigh
The mage with the Sarnak Knife is totally right, wisdom like this in the ranged slot is ubr, especially on a PvP server like I play. Clerics are NOT just about wisdom- we need AC/ strengh (generally a physically weak class- specially me as a eru- who potentionaly wears a lot of plate armour)/ resists/ agility just to name a few...
The bottom line is that with this, of which I am now a proud owner, I have way in excess of 200 wis again and can dump out my other slots for those (primarily) nice nice resist items. Items like this with ubr wis are why I can wear imbued granite spaudlers and a black alloy coif without sufferin with my mana pool.
The next time you are gettin beat down and your cleric lives like an extra 2 mins cause of the extra HP/ AC/ resists/ whatever that this item indirectly allows us, I expect you to broadcast an apology to verant for bein a angry knucklehead to the entire zone ;P

Posted:Jul 17 2001 at 3:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This comming for an idiot...I think this would be great for any WIS caster (duh), shamans, clerics, druids, and/or Rangers, really. Then again, +20 stamina can do alot of helping if your swimming long distances ;) Anyone can really get the best of it, I'm gonna go beg my guild to help me get one, heh heh. LaTeRz.
I happen to be a Ranger, and I can say with certainty that if I ever got this item, it would not go on me. I'd give it to a close (cleric) friend, or sell it for PP. Both the positive stats are things that I can use, but frankly, I use my Range slot for, well... Ranged weapons, namely a bow. The stats are nice, but not in that slot, and their bar none better for a cleric, shaman, or druid than for any other class.
hey don't listen to those voices that are screaming when your gambling man, warriors have bows in that slot or throwing daggers preferrably a bow because it gives added stat bonuses, wis for wis casters is great finally the int casters aren't hogging all the good hand equip. sorry casters when i see that soceress bowl you run around with in the 40s as i drool to ever have something like that in my melee slot save my epic i just go :-p~~~ anyway thanks varent maybe i have something to look forward to in that slot
Hey I don't remember the stats on the sorcerous bowl but I think there is someting comparable in ToFS 4th floor you are missing. The prophecy scroll is a great item for the wis casters. Prophecy Scroll dru clr shm / all primary only No Drop 2 cha 8 wis 50 mana

Posted:May 05 2001 at 10:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) To trigger Faydedar now, you have to have the Froglok Essence from Ulump already. Take that to the Hidden Oasis in Timorous and find the naked Dorf (something Codslayer, I think it was). Have your killers there ready and buffed and simply trade your Ulump item. Faydedar spawns in the Oasis and attacks. The dorf returns your essence and you commence to try killing Faydedar. Good luck. If you fail, the timer on the dorf is about 5 hours... just retry once he is back up.
