I may not be quite a high enough level (YET) to get one of these, but trust me, when I can go on a PoH raid, and if I ever win one of these, It will most likely be my primary helm, I'd easily sacrifice a wisdom point or two for 6 to STR, WIS, INT *and* AGI, and 10ac isn't all bad. Usually when you have a high +wis item, it has crap AC, and once you have over 200wis, the effect of having more significantly decreases. And also, as a halfling, I'd enjoy the Ultravision, even if I do have Infravision, I can at least turn my damn gamma down once I get this!
This item is good for almost every class and race! not bad! wisdom fills the priests, and int for pure casters, and str and agi for melee, and helps for anyone really, and the ac is sweet, and who wouldnt want ac, lol.. Its a very nice item, and I only wish I could get something special =) the UV helps many races, so really its useful for everyone hehe,
Just got this yesterday on a Hate raid. At 55 I happily sacrificed 1point of AC to get +6 str/agi/wis/int and right-clickable Ultravision. My Frog Crown will stay in the bank for the resists. But this is my new every-day wear headpiece. Very nice.
One of these dropped the other night and well it went to me.. the druid :-)
I love it actually. Already had over 900ac 2khp and 204wis, This helm give me more wisdom so I was able to drop my +wis shoulders for more resists/ac. Worked out very well.
say what u will but warriors are rather easy to get good armor for and sacrificing a little ac for the ability to have ultra vision would be something i would do. pity no drop and need lvl 46 to use. still it will have its uses for any night vision impared melee class. I cant take not seeing in the dark.
for a monk, who is over level 52, and wants a decent helm but doesn't do naggy raids, this is a pretty good helm for the ac/stat/proc/weight ratio.....and you people get to upset with what people post on these boards, lmfao
Well, by the time a Monk can start on the Planes, their weight penalty doesn't kick in until around 17 or 18 stone (I forget exactly). That, coupled with several other pieces of lightweight gear and a nice WR bag (like EE Bag or some such) to stash supplies and a couple of pieces of alternate gear (for special situations or weapon practice), leaves plenty of room for a few pieces of 1- or 2-stone gear. Just a mater of looking at the whole picture instead of a single thing.
And even if you don't wear it all the time, you could always tuck it in that WR bag and just slap it on long enough to recast UV, then bag it again :)
It is legit. I was up in hate on second floor last weekend and it droped. The ultravision is instant cast, targetable. It came off one of the roaming mobs on second floor.

I just hate it when MORONS like you come on here with no thought whatsoever and trash one of the best items in the game. You are one of the resons that they closed the EQ boards. People got sick and tired of peopel like you posting inaccurate trash.

I have this crown.. and I adore it. I'm a level 59 human druid, without her velious quest armor, and frankly, I really wouldnt trade this in for anything else at the moment. 10ac on a head item *with* wisdom, for a druid, is remarkable, (its no Tranix but hey), not to mention the insta-cast Ultravision which EVERYONE is always asking me for :P It may get replaced when I get my *** in gear and work on my quest armor, but until then, I am extremely content with wearing this rather extraordinary item.
I disagree with Llarn. VERY few druids will get a Crown of king Tranix as that almost always goes to monks or Ench's. As for their PoG crown...well, A druid can only hunt in PoG AFTER they got their epic. Its a very nice helm for a druid imo. The low ac is similar to druid gear anyway lol. I think that just about any class could get some use out of this. Specifically the classes with poor nightsight.
I love posts like this. "It's not the best, therefore it sucks." If you have none of the items listed by Llarn (for example), however, this makes for a nice little alternative.
I think our less-than-articulate friend SHOULD have said: "Alright, maybe it's not THE best item out there, but it's certainly decent and chances are good that at least ONE person on the average Hate raid will be able to put it to good use. Perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to denounce it as a piece of junk."
I would never ever ever wear this helm since im DE SK, 10ac doesnt cut it for me, i never cast anymore with exception of the ac debuffs and occasional snares and lifetaps. Nothing where i go OOM so i dont need the int, which is at 151 atm. Definite caster item for those that dont have runed cowl or whatever that circlet is that druids wear.
The AC doesn't cut it for hybrids. If you can get this item then you can get your plane's helm, which will have about 8 more AC. I do think this would be nice for a int/wis caster. +6 int/wis is pretty nice and the AC is pretty awesome for these classes. Yes, your int/wis is probably maxed when you get this. So trade in another piece of your equipment for mana gear. Case being, that it is hard for casters to get decent AC on anything(and it is nice to have.. 1 miss could be the difference between life and death), so this helm should not be overlooked.
It's more an hybrid item. Very nice for pallies, rangers or sk's. As a 53 druid I wouldn't wear it, there are other head items that have better bonuses and what's more by the time you reach the level to get the crown, wis/int casters already have around 200 wis/int and need mana more than they need wis/int.
"As a 53 druid I..." As a 53 druid you wouldn't know much about what's good for an SK. Not necessarily to flame, just asking people who don't know about a certain class to go and say an item is good for said class. This would best go to a non tanking class like monk/blind rogues/all casters due to the lack of AC. It's not for a warrior by far, if you say you need it for the infravision you're just lying. When was the last time you honestly solo'd for decent exp in a dark zone? Chances are you're grouped most of the time, thus have someone to cast infravision on you, therefor negating it's use in your hands and taking the wis/int/str/ac from someone who could have used it full time. sorry for getting so sidetracked about the item, who drops it, etc... Cool item, hope to get one for my chanter one day =)
Don't forget the ultravision for us hybrids that are human...quite nice..but I'm surprised it doesn't have a pretty strong negative to CHA with a name like that. Glad it doesn't though.
I agree...as a monk I would really have no desire for this item though (even though I am human AND blind) due to it's heavier weight. I would prefer to get my enhanced vision from either *ugh* shiverback gloves or the mempo of likato, which also drops in hate. (Plus I would prefer either froggy crown, kobold jester's, or tranix crown to this anyhow)
I would think that this item should go to a non dark elf caster of some sort.
