Proc Effect Inconsistent

I not quite sure how this proc effect is suppose to function. I tested it on various mobs with differing results. On random mobs the effect would throw the NPC into the air, take 100 damage, and stun them. However, the stun seemed to last about a second or two, not the 7.5 seconds stated. Also, while the "whirlwind" debuff was in effect the NPC would move towards me while still levitated in the air. I was under the assumption that the effect would levitate them and stun them for 7.5 seconds. Afterwards they would fall to the ground and continue attacking.

On Plane of Hate trash the Mob was thrown into the air for only a second before immediately coming back down and was stunned for a second like other melee stun procs. So in this case neither the stun or the levitate effect lasted more than a second and multiple mobs.

On boss mobs they would only take 60 damage, not 100 damage due to MotM buff, and were immune to the stun effect and levitation of this proc.

So, I am not quite sure how this weapon's proc is suppose to function, because none of the NPCs i tried it on were stunned for the 7.5 seconds stated and even managed to move towards and attack me while still being levitated and under this whirlwind effect.

This bow has been nerfed as of Sept 8, 2010 patch. A level cap was put on whirlwind... Doubtful it will work against lvl 85s anymore.

With trueshot disc, nightmare wood bow, summoned arrows (tolans), str 255, dex 255, atk at 1211, I was averaging around 250 per hit and did a double crit for 512 and 532 on Innoruuk in Crypt of Nadox. Level 55 ;) Now if I had this bow my hits would have been higher just not as fast...

Got me a Tallon Engraved Greatbow 40 del 35 dmg now just waiting for the next crit...

I've noticed that I do more damage when my dex is higher. (I always have my STR maxed using my own str buff).

It's only worthless to thos who play Evergrind or Everloot as opposed to Everquest.. /shrug.

To me, it isn't worthless.. it's a trophy for a long, involved, pain in the **** quest thet I WILL complete....

little hint to those of you who dont know the bow is mainly used for its procs, it can potentially nock your target so far out of range that by the time it comes back you can fire it again at him. lol have a nice day

60 delay makes it pretty well useless. i'll stick to the 42 damage 30 something delay bows from PoP.

Rangers can be very scary =)
They should make eagle eye or whatever that 14 minute buff that raises their DPS by 20 an AA skill though so it can't be nullified or have to be recast every 15 minutes plus take a buff slot...

ok folks, here is the simple fact of things. the faster you can attack, the more damage you can deal out.

the reason for this is because of the randomness that is in the formulas calculating hits/misses and damage inflicted per hit.

your goal is to inflict the most damage in the shortest amount of time. to do this, you are going to need a bow that has both power and speed. of course we all know how the world works, if you want one thing, you will more than likely have to sacrifice something else.

which is why bows like the Rushing Wind Longbow, Obsidianwood Compound Bow, Nightmarewood Compound Bow, Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt, and the like; are the most effective.

so remember, Windstriker has a nice damage potential if we're just going to compare single hits. but if we're talking which will have the highest DPS rating, then a Nightmarewood Compound Bow would win.

and it isn't the single hit potential that matters, it is the overall DPS that counts.

Ive seen posts saying the haste cap is 60% so with 60% haste on this bad boy and 11dmg arrows (also something ive seen posted not yet seen in game) this bow would b 56dmg/24dly busting off a 100dd and a stun with 260dex every 10 to 15shots (just a guess on proc rate)also sinse a quiver is not a haste on bows but a dly reduction why wouldnt it stack with haste things would be nice to have 80% kinda haste

No... that's now how it works. Haste CAN be figured either in terms of delay reduction or attack rate increase. If I double my attack rate (100% haste in that sense), then I am cutting my delay in half (50% that way). After a long time of confusion, it has finally become the accepted norm to use attack rate increase to calculate haste.

Thus 50% haste means you attack 50% faster, or reduce delay by 33%.

The fleeting quiver is the singular exception. No other weight reduction items effect melee or archery haste.

Er guess I should have mentioned I'm not a twink, nor do I have the means to twink myself to 250 every stat :/ Was kinda hoping for some advice on exactly which stats actually affect archery damage so I could focus on getting those up specifically.

Dxterity is the only stat that affects bow damage. Max your dex and you'll hit harder with a bow. ;)

i dont care what you people have to say this is how it works. Str up the dmg of the bow, dex ups the average. so str to up the range of dmg and dex to make it hit higher in that range. both are impportant.

ok to answer your question about bow dmg dex does indeed effect your crit/proc PST but it is also what determines your NORMAL bow/ranged weapon shots with 120 or less (unbuffed and unequiped) i was doing 50-110 normal shot - double dmg (i.e. 110 max) with all me stuffs on (249 dex) i was hitting for 160-310 a shot NORMAL, now to answer that str comment str effect how hard you hit with MELEE weapons, carry cap, to a much lesser extent dmg taken, endurance used and hp. these are my findings and was done b4 i got EQ and AM, now the dmg i do with a bow only a caster can compare =D

To answer your question, Str will increase the damage you do with your bow. Where as Dex will cause you to crit more. With 208 str and 144 dex my best kret was 137dmg at 47. At 53 I have done 149 dmg with same stats. Advice is to hang with a bard. But, only partner. With the bard Dex buff you can easily hit 250 dex.

Actually, what I've noticed is that Strength has much less to do with archery damage than Dexterity. For example, my self-buffed STR/DEX is 234/145. Decently buffed, I'm at 255/255. If Strength = damage, than I wouldn't really gain much in normal damage after being buffed. However, I see my average bow shot almost double with 255 DEX.

under lvl 51 ranger and bows are like freekin water and oil but once u get to 51 it a BIG diffrence... will do double damage and better crtis... the higher your Dex is the more often you will crit for bows... so to answer your question... Dex.

OK, I know this is off-topic here but peeps on this thread seem to know...

I'm a 48 ranger, archery skill 195, not bad. But to date my best crit is 45 (ack!) with a 20 dmg bow, class 2 arrows, str around 160, dex around 105. (Yep, I've been drinking that AC is King coolaid.) What am I missing? I've met twinked baby rangers who say they crit around 150, surely I can do better...

Ok having gotten to the high end game I'm gonna disagree with common dogma, That dogma being that AC is king. There are many circumstances where AC is not as important to a ranger than other offensive stats. In fact save for those rare times when one is the MA AC isn't really all that important to a ranger post jolt.
Post 50 your going to be working with Main Tanks who know how to manage their agro for the most part and if you've spent your career learning the most important ranger skill (agro management) you really shouldn't be taking more than a hit or two per fight.
Even if you are with a MA who can't keep agro there are tricks you can use to keep the mob on the right person. For example I use root when I'm with a tank who can't hold agro just root the mob and make sure the tank is closer than you are.
The point is that the AC is king is a warior mantra not a ranger mantra.
The ranger mantra should be AGRO MANAGEMENT IS KING

I am sorry Aeaeni, having 3 Rangers on two servers all above 58, and a 4th up and coming on a third (and favorite)server, Skex is 99% correct.

It is all Agro Management.

If you get hit, and You can't control your Agro, this is only half your fault, the other half lies with your Assigned Main Tank. Give him the Agro....Period.

Swapping Weapons, Backing off the Mob, and many, many others ways (including cheezy spells) must be determined and learned in order to accomplish Agro Management. When you get the mobs who Quad 800+, Rampage, and all those skills we wish we had, then you will realize even all your AC (which will never be as high as the MT) will not keep you alive....

Agro Management in the END GAME will (lol, sometimes.)

Actually, I think she got the point exactly.. I don't care how high your AC is.. as a ranger, if the Avatar of War has you as number one hated, you are dead..... The whole point is ditch the "AC is God" crap and learn to manage the agro. And AoW is nothing compared to the new PoP mobs out there... I've seen rangers with 1300 AC and 5k HP (buffed) drop in seconds to FIRST TIER boss mobs.. It's all about agro management and resists.

Unfortunatly, if you were a high end ranger, you would know that the mob's that you are fighting can NOT be rooted, and when you start dishing out 10k DPM, you will get agro sooner or later. No matter what. When that thing starts quading you for 400 a pop, you're gunna pray to god that you have AC. .

Then switch to The WindStriker (I'd have 250Dex, 250Str and 250Agi)

Using A Fleeting Quiver bringing the 60 delay down to 18 with a 45 Damage, doing crits every other shot with my 200 Archery.

Using Damage 8 Arrows.

That's Damage53 Dly18 with 250Dex using a bow.

Good until Lev 55 for any ranger. Then we're hitting for 1000 per shot anyways with Trushot skill and Disc.

I know that this a a very old post but jsut for all the young rangers out there reading on how you can be better... as far as the delay reduction on the fleeting quiver... it WILL not bring it down to 18 LOL thats insane, but as far as the equstion Lew gave i dont know about eather... the most common equation is the weight reduction on the quiver devided by 3. so the quiver <60% red> takes about 20% off the del of the bow... this isnt haste just del reduction... however if you do ahve a haste item on like a SCHW <21% haste> it will override the quiver... me and a fellow ranger, him having hte SCHW and me the quiver, he shoots faster using the bow of the huntsman <20/30> but we shoot as fast when i got my SCHW.. :/ i was hoping to shoot faster becasue of the del red but it didnt work that way..:/ well i hope this rambling helps at all...

As far as this bow... its got a good proc but thats about all... there are faster and better bows out there...

By "this bow" I assume you meant primal. Primal is better than this bow. While 45 damage is impressive, primal is quite damaging enough and much, much faster.

Also, Agi doesn't affect Archery.

Also, even with AM3 you will not be Trueshotting for 1000 every hit, or even every second or third hit. An AM3 ranger with primal can certainly do enormous amounts of damage, but not quite that enormous.

Not Quite, Quiver haste is not actually haste, it is a direct drop in delay. Formula works like this.
Base Delay of Bow-(%Wt Reduction/10) So with a Fleeting this bow would have a delay of 54(60-60/10)

Just letting u know with a 30 40 boz used to do like 300 330 hit with arrows (2x dam included) and crits up to 976 ( my best at lvl 55 with low dex and 210 in skill )
With a 20 30 bow the best i can hope is a "pityfull" 210 and once when it rains (with 30 40 it was " normals" hits ) and my best crit is barely 350
So CHEER 60 delay of this bow (i may dream of 15oo crit maybe hehe got higher dex and skill now ).All u need to do is get this one .

first charcture and only charcture a lvl 19 ranger decided to do a Search on bows and let me tell ya seeing the kind of damage that can be done with a bow of that nature is refreshing *currently 40+ crits trueshot bow 87 archery* there have been many times now that i have wanted to hang up me gear and create something else....but dam theres alot to be offered *even thought i still need to learn alot more* a Soloing Ranger even one of little stature and Lvls such as myself the Log of damage that i just read has just created a hole new respect in me for my ranger and his abilities.....many thanks for Login that meele

even though this is wrong wep to post on :) myself a nice Shaman , A 60 ranger with efreet bow few casters with grav flux sat in freeport one day and offered 400pp to newbies who would help us mess around this is how it goes

Newbie stands before us and bows to us we hand him cash casters fire up grav about a second behind each other with ranger levitated high overhead watches as the newbie is hurled skyward by cascading Grav fluxes and at the height of the arc the ranger Fires a Disciplines shot with some sicko arrows and thud the newbie falls and a shout goes across the land as the newbie was lifted off the ground PULL!!!!!!

OMG... that's hilarious. We were trying to do a difficult CR in Droga and figured out to use grav flux to pop up on the left-hand entryway so that we could run down the railway tracks instead of the long way around. But this is wayyyy funny. I'll have to remember this, that long day off when I lay my hands on this beautiful, beautiful bow...

\disc is a reference to the diciplines melee classes get and they are refering to the level 55 ranger trueshot dicipline that makes all shots with bows have a higher damage rate and hit probability.

Dalcron, at lvl 43 I still have a long way to go with my Ranger. Let me first qualify by saying it is likely everyone plays their character different, some ways are better than others, but everyone chooses the way they play because it IS right for THEM. I actually have worked on three different sets of gear for my character to use. The first set is made up of DEX items. Dex directly affects the damage output of your bow, how many crits you get with the bow (and procs on weapons and other things). I love to snare and kite solo with my dex gear on, using my bow while backing up. Since I don't get hit too often this way, I trade AC and Str items for Dex when soloing like this. However, there are two other situations I also prepare for. The first is when I am in a grp and want to be pure offensive melee. In that case I try to keep my AC and Dex up to help with defense and procs, but since Strength directly affects my damage output I go as much as I can with str gear. Now, there is an issue here that leads me into the second situation: pulling for grps. In that situation you attract mob attention and have to worry about your defensive stats too. (I know there is a "defense" skill that is not what I am referring to, I am talking about your Ranger's total ability to defend him or herself). If we are good at our melee then we may attract attention from the mobs and have to worry about this aspect of our Ranger Character as well. With respect to stats, I believe you can either focus on AC here or AGI. AC it is my understanding affects how much damage you take when you are hit, and agility affects how often you are hit. Now, I believe that there is a good chance that AGI is as much if not more important to a Ranger as AC in improving defensive abilities. My theory is that monks have lower hit points than Warriors, as we do, but despite the mob attention they draw after a pull they do not seem to die anymore than warriors. Monks tend to focus on AGI as much as AC, and from comparing my Ranger AC to theirs (I have 772 ac at lvl 43 with self buffs on), theirs is almost the same as mine despite their higher lvls, though they did have high AGI. (please note that when you increase your agility you actually also increase you ac some too--try it with your agi buff sometimes and you will see). I speculate and am in the process of trying to see if AGI is the way for a Ranger to go too. This is so not scientific it isn't funny, and I am sure there is probably something wrong with my theory. It is just an idea that is at least supported by other Rangers from what I have read. Good luck and I hope I helped you some, or at least help foster a good discussion.

OK. I have a question and it seems many high lvl rangers have looked or come look at this page and the posts. I have just recently created a ranger but he's lvl 2 so if I have not put the correct stats in, I can still delete him. Question on the stats...I see ppl talking about how this person didn't have str or dex maxed. Are those the 2 primary stats for a ranger? Should I select a peice of armor that has less AC but with added str or dex (or hopefully both) over some other piece that has higher AC but with no str or dex?

Please, any info on this would be greatly appreciated. I have grouped with some rangers and have seen high lvl rangers in action and contrairy to popular belief, I think rangers are a pretty sweet class with some excellent attributes.

Stats are nice BUT.....

A good rule of thumb is to remember Level is god and AC is king when it comes to the high end of the game. Stats are alway nice but never sacrifice AC for stats unless its some crazy trade off. AC and HPs are 2 things rangers need to build then stats if you can. Starting a ranger put the points in str ALL THEM the rest dont matter all stats are important but never trade a point of AC for 2points of stats even important ones like str and dex. My rule is ill trade 1 point of AC for 3 str or 3 dex and maybe 1 point of AC for 5 sta or agi and never for anything else even though wisdom is nice later on. Well maybe 1 ac for 5 wisdom over 50th lvl. Also something to remember RESIST.

Bah. Get STAMINA STAMINA AND STAMINA. In a raid situation you will always max out str, agi, dex etc with good gear - you will probably not max out sta.

Not to mention them extra hp are nice when you're everyones favourite (read: only) tank in expgroups until you hit about level 40.

AC is king, stats are nice, resists are essential in the high-end. However, don't look at a piece and immediately dismiss it because by itself it isnt as high AC as you want. Armor isn't just one piece, it's a whole set. Take a look at what's available and instead of shooting for a single piece of armor, look for a few pieces that add everything you want. Granted, never sacrifice AC unless the stats or resists are essential or overwhelming.
