Has a neat graphic now that looks like...a brain. Must have happened when they assigned graphics to everything that had a 'brown bag' graphic when worn/placed.

Who should be eligible for the roll....?
# Aug 11 2005 at 8:39 AM Rating: Decent
just imagine a tank and a caster roll for an item (hypothetical, of course) = +20 ac / +20 str / +20 int / +10 agi, dex, sta, all saves / +75 HP / + 75 mana ; but is a primary slot 1hb 25 dam, 18 delay /// ok, now who should get this items? the tank or the caster? (IMO) being a necro myself, it could be equal for either, but whomever would beneifit the most from it should get to roll on it, the tank would have nice hp, wep dam/dly, str dex.... but waste the mana, less an sk, pally? / or caster should get for int, man, HP, str, etc... chances are, the tank has a good primary wep anyhow...all things weighing equally, the caster can use every single stat on any wep, whereas a tank, could poss waste certain stats (i.e.,) mana, int/wis....depending on class.... my 1 cp worth...but if there is a raid leader, and they have a clue, they should pick who can roll for it, and who can most benefit from the item ! (and btw, item is ALL/ALL) :)

Well, your example of the 1hb doesn't support your argument very well, because a weapon with that kind of ratio would be mostly wasted on a caster. A 25 damage, 18 delay weapon, that is usable by a dual weild class, would be MUCH better in the hands of a DPS class, like ranger, monk, etc.

However, if a raid leader starts picking what classes get items, it will quickly lead to discontent, and people leaving the guild. The best way around this is to either make item rolls open to all who can use, or use DKP.

In the case of this brain, FT1 is no longer a reason to give preference to casters. There is so much mana regen gear in the game, anyone who is not maxxed at level 70 is just not trying.

Flowing Thought I?!

Doesnt that mean something that you should be below 40 or so to have it work?! WTF is SoE thinking?

Not really sure what you are talking about. However, since it is no drop, from plane of fear, I can assure you that nobody below level 46 will have to worry about whether it works.

Oh also, the I in flowing thought I merely means that you get ONE extra mana regen per tick. Its not like focus effects, such as Mana preservation I, where its only useful to a lower level character.

one comment to this, actually some people below 46 have this 2 ways. First is if u end up deleveing char just for the fun of releveling. Also for those that have been playing before kunark came out, planes were accessable to all levels there was no 46 req for them. There was actually no such thing as reccomended/required level either. only a few people that actually played back then. So if someone took a break from eq, their under 46 char might have one. Also all levels get max effect from this item.

Uh... despite what the stats are this is very useful for any class.

100 hitpoints and 100 mana and 10 to all saves in the ranged slot..

Hence the all/all tag. SoE usually does a pretty decent job on which loot works for which class.

And FT for necros? bah you n00b. 1 more mana regen outta the 60ish they get from their best lich is nothing. A necro shouldn't get this because of the FT, they should get it because of the HP/mana. If you were assigning this based on FT I'd go any caster but necro + bard.

Although I doubt I would ever wear this playing an enchanter, but I think they should still get to roll if they want.

No mention of Bards..
# Feb 08 2003 at 7:51 PM Rating: Decent
I won this item yesterday. I'm a lvl65 Bard. There was only myself and a necro that bid for this item when it dropped and it was awarded to me because I had more points. Does this make me a bad person? Or our DKP system flawed? I don't think so.

In the wake of a mana increase being placed on our charms, and the Alternate Ability 'Fading Memories' which takes 800 mana to use, FT has become a very important part of a Bards gear. Hell, even our Ornate boots from PoP have FT3 on them.

Even though I did have some second thoughts about bidding for this item, in the end I am very happy I did. Every stat on that item is a huge bonus to me. That is except for the -cha. But like chanters, while cha can be important to a bard, we do have naturaly high cha anyway, so a neg hit isn't that big a deal.

No offence but i deffinatly think you should have let this go to the necro. Yes some of you'r abbilitys take mana, but ALL of a necro's ability's take it. If a caster is out of mana then he is pretty much useless untill he has more, you are not. I am sure you would agree if it was an uber All/all instrument with a large int bounus you would be upset if a necro took it. You use mana, but are not dependant upon it. Just my 2cp.

Actually, all the bards in my guild DO use their mana, and a lot of it... puling in hard LDoNs can suck a mana pool dry easily. ANYONE who uses mana would gain benefit from this in their range slot, period. Well, except for rangers.... wouldn't make sense to give up the bow for htis.

A necro has insane mana regen even without FT, and so do shaman.. On top of this, FT is basically the ONLY mana regen that works for bards. No kei, they don't have Canni, they don't have the Lich line.. even their own Manasong doesn't help them regen mana.

The line between classes is fading, and there are very few items that scream for one specific class to weild them. Granted, there will always be a few items that SHOULD only be used by one class, like the BoC.... but there are less now than there were before.

RE: No mention of Bards..
# Feb 22 2003 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
In my guild this would have gone to a shaman or necro due to the fact both classes convert hp to mana.
Why is it always a debate as to which class should get?
# Jan 25 2003 at 4:24 PM Rating: Good
Especially when 99 percent of the people having this debate are extremeley unlikely of ever seeing the mobs that drop them and much less the items they're fight about. If some sweet item drops on a raid, it will be up to the raid leaders who has a shot at it. All your debates won't mean a damn to them.

If you can't contribute to strategies and experiences related to pursuing these items, don't waste everyone else's time by having them sift through this crap.

well said,

And basically ppl decide themselves wheather they want to be up for Lotto if it has no use for them, they won't bid for it. And if it is an upgrade to their (current)equipment they are happy to bid on it and nevermind if it is maybe a tiny bit more usefull for one class or another.

Still hoping that my guild gets big enough in numbers and lvl to make it to those planes, but for the moment i can still dream about such items and hope that one day i'll be proudly walking around with it.

What a beautiful item for a Troll shadowknight to have... =)

It would take a Vidi style raid to take out Cazi-thule... Chain rotation Chealing and Mana burn... with the raid-mob attacking for all they are worth.

Then every Wizard Necro caster esc would call dibs, I think a trollie would get hanged if he asked to be part of the troll on this =)

The Beginning
# Aug 30 2002 at 9:44 AM Rating: Good
I cannot believe the negativity against an Enchanter recieving this item. Arguments include Negative Charisma, Better Flowing Thought Items, and Self Buff Regeneration Spells.

Speaking as a level 59 Enchanter that has gone on Plane Raids, ToV, Ssra Temple etc. this Brain would be very valuable.

At my level I have well over 200cha and -25cha will not affect my performance as an Enchanter. All Flowing Thought items Stack up to ft15. Even though I will be able to cast Kodiac's Endless Intellect soon, that spell along with Visions of Granduer and others are very mana intensive buffing raids particularly when your the only Enchanter and Mana regen becomes very important, and yes EVERYONE else will have those same Mana Regen Buffs so that is a Mute point for someone else needing it because they cannot KEI themselves. To keep the DPS up, the Enchanter needs mana for Haste, I can recall going OOM too many times trying to keep every melee happy with that particular spell line and I do not have my Epic. Even more mana is depleted if I am left up to slowing the mobs. Simple fact is Melee need Weapon Haste and Casters need every little Mana Haste they can get ahold of.

Another issue is that the 10str negates the weight for the item which is good for any caster as they have low str. Who more then an enchanter gets a beating? At my level I need as much +MANA & +HP, with AC & INT as a bonus, even more so on Items that give resists such as this. As far as casters staying out of AE range, cant always be done. Even in ToV I have to run into AE to refresh Haste to those screaming out for it. Stamina on this item will further increase an Enchanters odds of living by giving just a few more HP's.

So keep this in mind for the Enchanter, they get the most aggro then any other caster, use quite a bit of mana buffing and debuffing, charisma on this item barely puts a dent into an enchanters charisma pool at this level, and this item covers all above mentioned needs which too few too rare items would for the Enchanter. I would wear this constantly with the rarest of situations like corpse recovery.

Gonna nitpick your post =p

1) I agree its not always possible to stay outta AE range, but uh... your tanks should be buffed before a fight stats, there is no reason to run around a corner in ToV and haste a tank unless a) they got dispelled or b) they died and rezzed back in, not that many in there cast dispell soooo

2) "So keep this in mind for the Enchanter, they get the most aggro then any other caster, use quite a bit of mana buffing and debuffing" they get the MOST agro? Rarely, i see shamans getting more agro than them from slowing mobs and clerics getting summoned for CH'ing (Especially if the MT dies and clerics are thrown up on the agro list)

I still agree overall that an enchanter deserves a shot at this item, as does ANY caster/hybrid.

RE: The Beginning
# Aug 31 2002 at 10:26 PM Rating: Good
I agree with the fact that any class that has a mana pool deserves a shot at this but I was trying to get across the fact that the Enchanter shouldn't be last on the list like so many believe when they have the fewest HP and AC of any class. I am curious if you ever played an enchanter at these levels?

1) It's not as easy as you make it sound when there are 3 groups wanting Haste with a limited manapool with constant pulls and the occasional add with dispellers. Granted the Enchanter when not buffing or debuffing simply sits doing nothing half the other time just medding to repeat it all over again. You talk as if only 1 pull is done, then everybody rebuffs after 1 said pull. Simply doesnt happen.

2) With a proper CH chain your MA Tank shouldnt die. If he does and your Secondary isnt up to par, its probably gonna be a wipe so everyone is gonna share that aggro. When there is no Shaman or another Enchanter and I have to TASH & SLOW, I get summoned and or on a nasty aggro list! Usually Tash is enough and people dont want to wait til a mobs health is at half or below before you slow it - I've tried, people want efficiency at the enchanters expense including in nasty xp zones like CT now. Sure I can be one of those enchanters who refuse to slow or wait til the very last minute to tash, that doesnt make me very useful then or at least not as useful as I should be.

Just another perspective to share.
RE: The Beginning

1.) Mana for Haste is a terrible argument considering the Enchanter Epic is mana free haste. Not all Enchanters have thier Epic, but I can pretty much guarantee that if your guild is clearing Fear, at least one enchanter in your guild does have an Epic.

2.) I rarely see an Enchanter draw much aggro during a large raid. Reason being is 99% of the time we have a Shammie slowing and he will draw more aggro than any spell a chanter will be casting. The point is, of all the casters I see that operate in AoE range, the Shamen are there the most. Robed casters should rarely be getting hit by AoE if it is possible to avoid it.

3.) Arguing here over who should get it is pointless as the guild will make that call when they have the chance. I can almost guarantee you that if you are doing OAL the Enchanter is the last who will be getting this, though.

Hehe, our guild cleared Fear just fine, including Cazic Thule himself, and none of the enchanters had the epic yet (though one ALMOST does).

See no reason why enchanters shouldn't have the same shot as any other caster for this. By our guild's raid and loot rules, they would.

# Mar 25 2002 at 10:33 PM Rating: Good
I know you really don't care 'bout my opinion, but here it is anyway. This really seems geared toward the Pally/SK classes. These classes would use most of the stats to their advantage. Not saying other classes wouldn't benefit..just Pally/SK would use MORE of the stats. Now, with it being all/all...that does NOT mean no one else could use! Very nice item for whoever is lucky enough to acquire it! BTW, definately NOT a Monk item. (Don't hear that often, eh? :b )

You are most correct. For monks this would not be a good option. Ony a few stats would actually be useful and its not worth the 10.0 weight. We would lose more ac then gain and well im willing to bet if your guild is raiding this your not gonna get a shot at rolling for it anyway if your a monk and that should not upset you.

With +10 resists across the board, +10STR (thus negating the 10 wt), +100hp/mana, +10wis/int, +10AC/STA, and *range* slot to boot, this is a caster's dream item (and probably one of the best in this zone for casters to win). It's not that the range of stats wouldn't benefit a melee, of course, but since casters have far less HP than melees and could benefit from the int/wis/mana more than most melees (including hybrids), I'd far rather have this on my chanter than my rogue or ranger. I'd even take the -25 CHA hit on my chanter (and make it up on other armor)!

I'm assuming that Flowing Thought can be cast on anyone (it's not self only)...? But it looks to me like only Hybrid classes can fully utilize this, although it's an awesome piece of equipment for ANY class. I'd love to have this on my Warrior, too.

Personally, I'd give it to a Cleric, though. They do need some STR to wear all that plate and the extra HPs when they are getting beat to death for CHing the MA, hehe. Plus they can use Flowing Thought. I think a Cleric would get the best use out of it, considering how little mana Hybrids actually use unless they are soloing.
RE: Well...
# Jun 01 2002 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
Its not a cast spell, its a permanent effect, thus self only.

A hybrid who only uses mana while solo'ing is poor at playing their class. While virtually all classes will drool over this item, I will say this: hybrid's don't have the luxary of sitting while the fight is happening, casters do. This tips the scales slightly in their favor, imo.

However, if we are straight up talking about raid efficiency over personal gain, clerics first, wizards second.

RE: Well... (str)
# Mar 27 2002 at 4:42 PM Rating: Decent

I wouldn't argue that the str bonus is nice for helping your cleric carry stuff. It's str +10, but the weight is also 10. So unless you're using the str to do more damage, it's not important at all if the item weights more or equal to the amount of str it gives you. (I knew a low level gnome cleric who carried the Bullsmasher around when encumbered to up str, not realizing that it ups str by two while weighing 4 - obviously no one in the Plane is going to be using a Bullsmasher, but the principal holds)

PALLYS could really use the wisdom, the AC and the str :) dont forget they have superior heal and revive and a few other nice cleric bonuses too :) great for allowing a pally to solo at higher levels which is next, and I say next, to impossible. as a 59 enchanter i would gladly accept this item were it awarded to me. the neg charisma isn't anything to lose sleep over, i constantly xp's at 166cha. if i had specific intentions to be using charms then i would remove this item and bump up the charmsima as high as i can get it. i'm not saying that an enchanter deserves this more than anyone else, but nobody has a right to exclude another class from possible recipients based on one negative stat. this was designed with every class in mind, and as such all should be able to roll on it.

seriously, this is a one real annoying stereotype that "dude, you casting, you dont need hp and ac". I can see any class benefit from this. Necromancers and shamans need Hp for mana conversion. Priest class need AC and Hp so they can stay alive when the mobs turn on them for healing you. Casters can benefit from flowing thought and int wis.
RE: Hmmm
# Mar 27 2002 at 5:03 PM Rating: Decent
Obviously, casters do need AC and HP. Especially those sacrificial enchanters. "Chanter dead. Guess that means he's tashed."

Anyway, hybrids need flowing thought because they don't get a chance to med. Flowing thought is constant, not a med boost. But, probably best suited for a cleric. I mean, when's the last time you heard a hybrid or a shaman say "wait, I'm lom, don't pull"?
# Feb 01 2002 at 3:48 PM Rating: Decent
Please dont falme me for this, this is my opinion you are entitled to your own of course.

I would personally give this to a Pally/SK first, then Ranger, then Priest, then Warrior, then anyone else, but Enchanter would be last in line.

-25 CHA is not the best stat for an enchanter...
enchanter has his own resist and mana buffs
there are other items w/ flowing thought effect for casters/priest that are useless for melees
resists are great for melees in close on the action against AE spells when casters are out of AE range
Hybrids can use the most of these stats
Pally/SK are second best tanks to warrior IMO
Hybrids usually end up oom cuz they got little mana... they'd get good use out of the effect
Tanks and hybrids love AC

Just giving a better understanding of how easy it is to get cha over 255 with time and some friends helping.

Natural cha for me is 90 (human)
Nathans robe in Katta 100 cha
Spell Adorning Grace gives like 40 cha
Mask of pulchritude in griegs 40 cha

Notice you are over the 255 cap already. And yes I understand how hard it is to get the mask and robe. But easily attainable with patience and friends helping. Notice also that is with just 2 items in your equipment slots. So theoretically someone as an enchanter can max out their cha enough that the negative will not impact them at all. Thus putting them at the end of the list due to neg cha is not really a good reason. Just my thoughts on it though. Best thing to do would be ask em before you decide they dont need it.

My thought is that this is a range slot item good for ANY class, so its an open roll...for ANY class. Exception may be Enc and Bard...but who am I to tell an enchanter how much charisma he needs?

Sure...uber guilds are about all that can take out CT and get this. There are loot rules and preferences, blah blah blah...but this item is phat for any class. Period. Phat I tell ya.

Althought the flowing thought effect would be lost on a warrior and the fact that its range slot only would put the bowmen (rangers and, again, warriors) on the back end of the list...

Bah...why am I arguing? I'll never see this damn thing :).
Flowing Thought I
# Jan 04 2002 at 1:42 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone who is capeable of killing Cazic Thule and gives an item with Flowing Thought, +100 Mana, and WIS/INT +10 to a pure melee is out of their minds. Items with Flowing Thought are the equivalent of Haste items for casters, only a mana regen effect is even more wasted on a Warrior than haste is on an Enchanter, and Flowing Thought items are much harder to get than Haste items. Also, while it does have nice stats for a melee, I am sure there are items around which are at least comparable that are much easier to get than a rare drop off of a god.

As for the neg25 charisma and enchanters.. I am of the opinion that charisma makes at most a very small difference to the resist rate of mez; The difference might be bigger with charming, but I don't charm very much, so if I had an item like this, I could take it off while charming easily enough.

I hate to seem rude and all, cause I'm definitely not trying to, but I must say it's somewhat *dumb* to come onto this forum and say: "NO YOU CAN'T HAVE THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE A CHANTER! THIS IS ONLY FOR CLERICS!" Umm, I would think that would be up to the raid leader, not some snot-faced little person who has nothing better to do than to sit around and complain because of the possibility that someone who isn't the BEST for this item gets it. Thank you for listening to me get that off my chest =)

i'd like to point out that the item is all/all, though some classes benifit more then others :) (thought personaly i'll prolly never ever win this item, unless i had my own supa uber guild)

Actualy it is up to the raid leader, but enchanters would be hindered by this item due to their practical dependance on their charisma in charming and landing spells. If I were an enchanter of the level required to do this task (not 50 ppl zerging CT for sure) I wouldn't want this since there are other items out there for that slot without such a penalty.
