If I am a beastlord, will this proc damage my pet as well? Also, if my opet is holding aggro and I step out of range with attack still on, will it proc?
RE: Howdy

The proc will not damage your pet, and it can only proc when it hits your foe. nothing will happen if you miss or are too far away, ETC.

I have had weapons proc on a miss before, and heard of people having auto attack on while out of range and their weapons procing... Not sure if that was fixed/nerfed though (I have not tried it).

Can't say much about a weapon procing while too far away.. that just doesn't sound right.. but as for a weapon procing on a miss, that's mostly right. You didnt' really MISS the mob however, u just hit it for 0. Basically you hit, got past all the dodges and ripostes and such, but when the mobs raw ac factored in (ac reduces damage, doesn't affect chance to be hit) it reduced teh damage from your hit to 0.. u got lucky and the proc still went off so it wasn't a total loss on that hit however.

Just clarifying.

After reading through the posts here I decided to try this weapon out for myself. What I found is that this weapon shines when you are killing giant-type mobs. It is usable for killing smaller mobs, but requires a little skill.

For giant-type mobs (hgs, sgs, cyclops, etc.) here is what you do. They hit and are able to be hit from a further distance away than normal size mobs. When attacking one with this weapon, stand at extreme melee range. You'll continue to hit the mob and they will continue to hit you. However, when the weapon's proc kicks in, you will not have to move at all since you will be outside the range of the spell's effect. I used this tactic successfully in Rathe Mtns. The only time I took damage was when the giant began to flee right after a proc and I ran through the effect. Used this way, especially with a shaman dex buff, giants go down very quickly.

Now, for smaller mobs, you will have to step back after the first wave hits. Once you get the hang of it this weapon becomes very managable, but you can still get caught in the storm if you aren't keeping an eye on your text window (I have spell effects turned off to reduce lag). If you are soloing, the mob will follow. The trick is to move just outside of the effect, but keep the mob in it for the next two waves. Learn the pathing of the area you are pulling to. For example, in Dawnshroud Peaks to the right of the entrance is a little open area that is a good pull spot for Zelniaks and wolves. The only problem is the pathing is a little quirky in that area. Depending on where I was standing when the proc hit, and which way I moved, the mob would sometimes run off to the side, away from me, then come back at a different angle to attack. This put both of us outside the range of the 2nd and 3rd waves. So knowing your area and the pathing becomes very important when soloing. When grouped, you'll probably have to step back, wait for all 3 waves, then step back in, unless you have managed to hold agro. If you have agro, then obviously you must follow the same steps as you would when soloing. Just make sure your group knows why you are pulling the mob around and that they are ready for it.

I have successfully used this weapon in a dungeon, but it was a LOT more difficult. Also, this was in SolA at lvl 39, so there wasn't a lot in there that could kill me quickly, at least not in the bar area. I did this just to get a feel for how difficult it would be to use it indoors. This is not a weapon I would suggest using in these circumstances since you can back yourself into a corner and get caught in the spell effect. This is a particularly nasty problem when you try to feign death and the last wave catches you. As with any spell, if it lands after your feign, it breaks feign and the mobs continue to pound on you while you lay there trying to catch a nap. Not a pretty sight.

To summarize the main points in previous posts:

1) Weapon procs at lvl 30.
2) Proc is an area of effect, 75 damage spell that hits in 3 waves. If all waves land (no resists) and hit for full damage, it will take 225 hps from the mob.
3) Each wave does a check against the mobs resistance, so it is possible to hit with one wave and have another wave resisted. I rarely had all 3 waves resisted. I did see a few partial resists, i.e. damage for less than the 75 max on the mob. This was not common, when it landed it usually landed for the full 75.
4) The spell does NOT damage other members of your party.
5) The max damage I took in 2 solid days of using this weapon was 47 pts. When I was caught in the storm, I took 47 pt hits a lot. My resists are still fairly low, so I'm sure with some resist gear this would go down.
6) The best place for this weapon is outdoors. Used on large mobs it is extremely effective.
When does this Proc?
# Apr 22 2002 at 2:05 PM Rating: Default
Does this weapon proc at 30 or 40? I have a 28 monk who just started using it, and I like the dmg I do, but am looking forward to the proc working. Looking at the description it says lvl 40, but everyone else says 30? Was this switched in a patch? Or does this proc at 30? Thanks.

LOL I answered my own question. I just hit 30 and this thing proc'd like crazy. Wow....Just have to be careful that your not too low on HP when this thing procs and hits you with that first wave of 47 dmg.

I had this when i was low level 30s and I got pissed because I didn't have the HP to manage the proc (the damn thing procs ALOT). But then at level 53 now one dropped for me in sebilis and I figured,... what the hell i'll try it out. Now i use it on ALL guild raids, Kael, Umbral Plains, Akheva, Madien's Eye, I have some decent resist gear so I don't have to worry about losing alot of HP when it procs and it procs SOOOO much more now then it did when I was low level 30s. I recommend this to any monk that wants to train their 2hb and likes making noise and talking trash to the mobs.... /say BURN *****!!! MWHAHAHA BURN!!

sry MNK can tank np... because of FD you can switch tank if you know how to play. even if you have a snarer u can use instill doubt (how many MNK is maxxing it ? heh)
best combo i made was MNK MNK MNK MNK MNK MNK or MNK MNK MNK CLR ENCH SHM .. In first group Mobs last like 5 10 sec ? second a bit more..

only MNK group : who is tanking ? who is pulling ? who is dmg dealer ?? hehe.. you can go to mobs place in group and if group is in trouble all fd only.. rare to have a total wipe out party ..

So a MNK who willingly Tank is not an idiot.. MNK tanking is better than any other melee class tanking (out of warrior).. Because u can FD while quite out of life and switch the tanking to the other melee class in the goup.. Bo then helps a tons ..
is it interesting ?

effect : 75X3 AOE spell...
you are hurted too.. as i have no fire gears , i am hurted for 41X3 dmg..

for monk w it should be interesting althought the WT (6.5WT) :
u got a good mezzer on a group and so pple ask you to pull 2 3 mobs.. this staff rocks if you pull with, with some luck you'll agro your 2 3 mobs..
u have no mezzer, and only backhealer, and group is being wiped out.. Use this weapon to agro all the mobs in order to pull them out the group before FD..

That's all what i see interesting for MNK .

BST, not sure it is interesting as you have a nice HTH epic quest. Even if it seems that BST are able to attack red mobs, i am not sure BST could handle trains easely..

Bought one for fun yesterday for 200pp in karana server, and to see how to use it. (and to work my 2HB ;PP )

RE: Beastlord can use this too!
# Jan 26 2002 at 3:44 PM Rating: Default
Not a good choice for a Beastlord, since they dont have double attack, therefore removing a bit of its usefulness. Better for a Beastlord to duel wield instead, more damage output.
RE: Beastlord can use this too!
# Jun 28 2002 at 1:42 AM Rating: Decent
This is a decent staff for a BL even without double attack. Consider most untwinked BLs have mediocre h2h items. A pair of Polished Steel Ulaks is about the same cost of this, (Povar, 200ppish). Now if Dual Wield proc'ed all the time the ulaks would be a total of 18/27. But they do not. Where this is 19/30.

RE: Beastlord can use this too!
# Jan 27 2002 at 12:38 AM Rating: Good
Uh? What? ...

How does double attack have anything to do with this...BL's don't get double attack, period, whether they dual-wield or go 2-hand. BL's lack of double attack doesn't mean they should dual wield. No bearing at all on damage output.

Your lack of double attack affects damage output EXACTLY the same whether you dual wield or not.

Sure, maybe the BL should dual wield for other reasons...check out the sweet H2H weapons showing up :)

All I got to say is, if you're a kitty BL, decide early, or (try to) keep ALL skills up! With low dex (go figure why cats have low dex?) they have a real pain changing their minds later.
RE: Beastlord can use this too!
# Mar 13 2002 at 3:43 PM Rating: Default
Uhm, maybe re-read Jabronis' post mate.. He is saying 2hb may not be as good an option for a Beast Lord BECAUSE they DO NOT have double attack. Thus dual-wileding would be better in terms of overall damage output for a Beastlord...

So to recap double attack (or the lack there of) has plenty to do with it...

I don't think you would want this stick to proc before lvl 30. We usually call this the "Suicide Stick", since you get hit by the Lightning Storm effect too. Imagine being a lvl 10 monk when this procs. 3x75dmg. Not very healthy, but the stick is quite good for 2hb practice. It's very cheap (you can even get lucky and get it for free sometimes), and it's damage/delay isn't all that bad at the lower levels.

hey! all you magic ignorant goofs, you talk about having to think like it is a completely new aspect to the game. "Wow i can't just sit there and watch my character attack?" might i suggest picking up a wizard for a few lvls, you only need to try to get em to lvl 13 or so, just to make sure you have a good experiance with all the variaties of spells and there twisted affects. then take the proc of this baby for granted, it has a great affect for no mana cost and it even has a multi second window for you to sneak back in and keep the mob in the AoE and put a few hits in on em.

P.S. everything i suggest for this came from just reading the posts on this forum, ya'll have to be smart to get to the lvl's to proc this momma just pick up the facts befour you form oppinions, i have been thankfull for the group member monks with this "stick"
weight

no one has comment on the weight of 6.5. Any thoughs, I just feel my twinked monk would loose too much AC for the weight.
RE: weight
# Aug 31 2003 at 5:37 PM Rating: Decent
You have a valid point, but the 6.5 weight increase isn't that big of an AC loss. Yes, it does have a detrimental effect on your AC, but it's not that bad.

I LOVE this thing man I kill giants fast! Even though i can't proc it yet im looking forward to being able to do that so I can get some forest loops in FM.
RE: Awesome Weapon
# Mar 10 2002 at 7:48 PM Rating: Decent
Killing Giants in FM is exactly where this weap rocks, even after you are lvl30, in fact much more if you are main tanking monk.

proc vs giants. You can actually use this, have it proc take 2 steps back, still be in striking distance yet out of proc effect distance.

A shammy (29), cleric (28), and a monk <me>(30) were able to chain pull giants all nite, and even pull 2 for fun when mana was good and mend was up. Never bothered to root add, just stood there and procd both giants .. POW .75 ...75 ....75, swing, swing POW . 75 ..75 .75 on both giants. Yes once and awhile I did get rained on, but then just take 2 steps back.
Group use
# Aug 31 2001 at 1:22 PM Rating: Excellent
My 33 monk has one of these. In a group i can wack away till it procs. Back up and FDeath. Feign deals with aggro and the mob sits taking 225 while i am free to watch the special effects.
This is also great when i work on faction in BB and warrens. Just collect a sizeable gnoll train and smack they all fall over when the proc kicks in. Every Iksar monk should have one. To those of you who dont like it I say fair play. But if you use the item intelligently it has its advantages.
Resist problem with Rain spells
# Sep 20 2001 at 9:44 AM Rating: Decent
Absor recently checked with the Developers and confirmed there's a semi-bug with Rain spells -- if the Rain would cause the Mob to die, it instead RESISTS IT FULLY. (Apparently this was to prevent a problem with different code that would cause the Damage from Rain spells to count as "un-owned" damage, which meant that the mobs Poofed if they died from the Rain damage).

This means that this really isn't any good to finish off a whole crowd at once; you have to chase the survivors whacking them.
This weapon rocks
# Aug 29 2001 at 10:07 AM Rating: Good
Okay I've seen too many fools putting down my weapon to stand by idly without commenting. I will explain the pros and cons of the weapon here. I've been using it from 28 to 36 now and this is what I've learned.

In the open it is an awesome weapon. Becuase of pvp restrictions the weapon will only do 66% damage to you making each rain do 47dmg. As soon as it procs once, just step on back a bit and the rest of the rains will hit the mob. I've had tons of procs that have done full damage to the mob and only 47dmg to me that is a huge boon. 47dmg to you and 225dmg to the enemy? I'll take that trade any day of the week. It is also great when you get those adds. I've partnered with clerics a few times and if you can just hold out a few more seconds, the procs will get the add down to half life by the time you kill the main one.

Those were the pros, here are the cons. Don't use this weapon in a dungeon. Many dungeons have mobs that won't attack unless you attack first (either because you are a higher level than them of you have good faction with them i.e. frogloks in guk) One rain of this weapon will often generate several adds. Additionally, in the confined spaces of the dungeon it is hard to step back to avoid the rains. Second con, don't use it in a group that is chain pulling because the proc will break the mez of the adds.

There is nothing better than fighting a giant and seeing your weapon proc 2 or 3 times in a row in one fight and having the screen spam with "%t's skin blisters and burns" "%t takes 75 points of damage" over and over. It is a thing to behold :)
RE: This weapon rocks
# Dec 14 2001 at 3:17 AM Rating: Default
I agree that is a great weapon. I finally pulled it out of deep cobwebs today upon turning 54. I neglected 2HB (105 at beginning of day) for many levels, and after a few hours play it is 164. I am not uber by any means, so can only compare to knuckle dusters and hands, but this thing does considerable damage itself, while procing from 3-7 times in a fight. Playing at the giant fort in BW, there are plenty of wurms and giants around to pound without taking any damage. If nothing else this is a blast to practice 2HB with, and I will do so with this until skill close to max.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 18 2001 at 10:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok I will set you all straight. First of all this weapon procs at LVL 30! This weapon sux if you are fighting anything but giants, because giants have a bigger aggro radius so therefore you can stand back far enough so the AE hits the giant but not you. Second of all this weapon does a 3 time 75DMG AE. It will hurt you if you stand too close to the giant and the giants do resist it sometimes. To get the best use out of this weapon you should have higher DEX to have it proc more, and a haste item. I personally think this weapon sux. I bought one for 75pp once and these things are practically worthless. Dont bother selling them to people just give it to an ALT monk. I hope this info has helped some of you out.
RE: LISTEN TO ME
# Aug 26 2001 at 6:28 AM Rating: Default
what's that? High dex and a haste item would be a good combo to fight with?? well HOLY CRAP! never thought of that before! thanks for opening my eyes Moctor Assland that was sure great advice. Maybe the weapon sucks to you, but if someone else enjoys it and can use it well then just STFU.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 15 2001 at 4:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, this thing is useless other than the stats at 40 and up because the mobs you fight resist nearly EVERY proc it procs while some of it may still hit you...so its useful from 1 to 35 but that's about it as far as i think on it, too many mobs have high magic resist at 35+.
RE: Heh, yer on crack
# Jul 16 2001 at 3:21 PM Rating: Decent
Please refrain from commenting on subjects you know nothing about.

My 40 monk very rarely has it resisted, and I have a guildmate who was twinked with one since around level 20 (he's 45 now), and swore by it. This thing is usefull at all levels, especially if you know how to use it after you are sufficiently high enough to generate the proc.

Of course, the proc doesn't even kick in until level 30, so yes...its useful from 1 to 35. But youre going to throw it away right after it starts to proc? (letting some of air out of Kromdull's head) The 19/30 damage/delay is most excellent for 2hb training, and you don't have to worry about killing yourself until well after you've got plenty of HP to burn.

Your 2cp might have been worth more than diddly if youre information was actually correct...
magic save
# Jul 08 2001 at 10:34 PM Rating: Default
you could avoid the rain with a little Magic resists also. Uber gear or spells what ever but I used a few rain weapons with my War and have good gear and would pull 3 hornets in BW's and use rain/damage shield spells/potions from level 40, that's just grouped with 1 cleric =)
boost magic save, avoid most of the rains =)
