Same thing as bronze bp but with a small MR. Most likely you're not going to have the strength to lug this thing around for very long, even if you're a barbarian and the warrens isn't a place you want to become encumbered far from an exit.

This item, tho the pic does not show, it also usable by Vah Shir. My VS Bard is wearing one with the Lodi Kai armor, and it looks very nice together.

Color of Cold Iron
# Jul 14 2002 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
Cold Iron is more of a really really dark purple-brown, which, except in the brightest of areas, appears to be black. On my Half-Elf Paladin, I look absoutely fantansitic wearing this. Combo'ed with a Centi Long sword and a Velium Shield, I definately look better than you. =) (just jokin, i dunno what you have,so flamers begone.)

Anyway on to useful info. The King drops this stuff nearly 100% of the time, usually one or two peices at a time, and the Breastplate is absurdly common, once got it twice off of one kill. If you on the Tribunal and need one, ask me. I'll give you 3. =)
Level to attain
# Jun 04 2002 at 7:17 PM Rating: Decent
The level to attain posted is lvl 10. That is ridiculous. The only way you can get that deep in at lvl 10 is with quite a bit of help or invis. There is no way even a group of lvl 10's could kill the king. I would probably suggest lvl 20 maybe 17 at the least.
Full set
# Mar 05 2002 at 1:08 AM Rating: Decent
I take it that all the Cold Iron pieces drop off the King, can anyone verify this, or has anyone ever gotten a full set? My Vah Shir Warrior would love a full set of armor.
Another 2cp...

I would call the color dark brownish-gray, and it has the design of plate mail. The breastplate with it's "etching" pattern looks VERY nice on a Barbarian female. On an Erudite, it's not quite as interesting looking, but with the right complimentary pieces, can make up a very good looking ensemble - which is important to the well-dressed Erudite. :-)

If you play an Erudite Paladin or Cleric, and want to wear some of this for it's MR resistance qualities, try to match it up with Drakkel wolfhide leggings. The leggings have an AC one notch better than banded, with a weight of 0.1, so it will offset the heavy cold iron to an extent. Plus, it looks like leather, and as we all know, Erudite leathers are pretty sharp looking.

As for the cost/value of this item, I'd call it 60-80 plat for the BP, for three reasons:

1: Somewhat uncommon
2: Good looking
3: Better than bronze because of MR bonus
Real Value
# Oct 27 2001 at 2:27 AM Rating: Default
The value of this, as someone mentioned, is totally dependant on each individual, and which server your on. I bet on the new roleplay server where your only allowed 1 character, and everyone just started, that this armor would be highly sought after since noone can use their level 60 to go get a full set of crafted or whatever. One man's trash is another man's Treasure. wise words.

Yes, it has the same ac as bronze, but remember that its is important to get those sv high as possible.

so in my opinion, if I hadn't been given a crustacean BP from a high guildie I woould wear it instead of my old bronze.

At lower levels, AC is worth more than resists. The caster mobs that you encounter at low levels won't be casting very powerful spells, so the extra resists won't matter much. You'll encounter a lot more melee mobs than casters, anyway. As you level up, resists become more important, but you'll be able to get better resist gear by the time you kill the King in the Warrens enough times to get you a complete set and not worry about your encumbrance from heavy armor. Find an enchanter making resist jewelry and you can buy some of that and wear a lighter suit of armor. Even a Barbarian Warrior with maxed strength is going to find a full suit of this a bit much to carry.

And, again, remember the legends that faerie gold could be revealed by touching it with cold iron. As such, it's gotten a rep in RL fiction for being non-magical. Hence the magic save bonus.

Also, remember that prices are driven by supply vs. demand. Bronze is a lot more common, and more likely to be traded, and so the prices will be lower. There are relatively few of these in-game, so the trading is light, and the corresponding prices high. There simply haven't been enough trades registered to note any price changes.

These are nice, though. I'll have to get my main over there so I can outfit my alt, who's hung around Odus a lot.

RE: High Level Farming

Actually if an item is magic or not is dertermined solely by a flag on the item.

At least according to the screenshot this is NOT magic.

It is normally true, that items with stats are magic, but it does not have to be that way. Northman kite shield, has stats but is not maguc, while blackened iron armor has no stats but is magic.

Cold iron armor is not magic, and CAN be farmed by high level players (at least as I understand the warrens loot rules).

Lets see here. : ) Bronze with Sv Magic? Hmm I'd rather get a set of Bronze than this stuff for like 20 times the price. Bronze type armor will never make it big. Once newbies get it and they think "OMG plate" they've got enough money for bigger and better things and they lose the bronze quickly. Oh well hehe

I agree with the other reply. This armor is about as good as bronze with stats. Only thing is bronze weighs a bit more as well. Any level above 50 would have better profit hunting elsewhere.

Why would a level 60 farm this junk?
# Mar 28 2001 at 11:27 AM Rating: Decent
I'm not even level 60, but I would let something like this rot on the corpse or I would give it to a newbie.
The value of this is would be less than 100 plat. Fine Steel Plate is better.

Greetings,

The true value of this armor is not to the folks farming it, or even to the folks who "just give it away." From that point of view it is just "Bronze with a diffrent look."

From the new player's point of view, it's pretty good armor. Not everyone is selling bronze in every zone all the time. `Specally if you live in Odus, where there seems to be a shortage of folks over level 20 :-)

Also - I have heard a level 52 Cleric tell his friends, "It's all about the looks" as he took for his Golden Quest Bracer (which has valuable stats) and put on the matching Planes bracer (which, ironicly, has no wis on it). For some folks - regardless of level - looks do matter!

by the way i dont know if the hole is online as of the writhing of your comment but i got a low lev necro there and i see plenty high level redy to sell stuff in there down time outside the hole or while they arer wayting for a rez to get back to the heavy elemantal war hehe. i make fortunes selling bone chips bat wings and all sort of things to them and i get to buy some prety impressive stuff they bring up because they all love me so much for helping them.

Not sure about the 650pp for this if someone paid that much for one of these they weren't the smartest or they had an over abundent amount of gold to give away. This is basically medium bronze with a couple to magic resists, I have not sold these but I would say more about 40pp for the breast plate. Just think of all the nice velious armor you could get for 650pp that would blow these away in stats.

I have to add to this and agree. This is about as good as bronze and bronze can be about as hard to get for someone that should be hunting this mob for experience. So, the estimated price on this is WAY off.

Well I for one have camped the king. Everything he drops is a rare so he doesnt always drop something. And that means that EVERY piece of the cold iron is rare. 650 is the price because of the difficulty to get not becuase of how good it is.

Being rare doesn't make it good. It's vendor trash. Anyone who ever paid 650 for this was stupid.

Gah, this zone isn't easy! There are 500 kobolds in a 3 inch space half the time, you need a cleric/enchanter to calm/soothe the things and then some serious crowd control when you get them down to two or three dogs in a pull. Bleh. Easy my-...

It's still a very nice zone. If you can get into it, do it, the rewards are many and spiffy. I might repent into an Erudite cleric for the blue chainmail...

# Mar 20 2001 at 11:38 PM Rating: Decent
Cold Iron Armor is dropped by King Gragnar he is a lvl 25 SK. Also all of the named spawns in the Warrens have a one hour spawn time. So if you want some of this armor expect to be there a while.

RE: Actually...
# Mar 21 2001 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
With the availablity of so much armor with better stats on it why would you want to farm this?

In most high level dungeons you can get armor drops that are much better than this and it just the regular drops.
RE: Actually...
# Jul 17 2001 at 8:23 AM Rating: Default
I think that there are a few good reason to farm this. 1) The looks, I have seen nothing that looks like it, reddish grey armor, looks cool. 2) Its cold iron, not bronze, not steel, not fine steel, its COLD IRON 3) Its very unusual to see that type of armor

Of course, its not as good as some other armors, its heavy and the stats are not awesome, but it is fairly rare and I think that possessing on ful suit of this is pretty cool, just to twink a char... or give to a friend.

Farming armor for looks instead of for function is stupid. You're gimping your character when you could be putting better armor pieces in those slots. Some of the most powerful players I have seen over the years have not had fully matched sets of armor. They had a mish-mosh of pieces acquired from different places that boosted the stats that they actually needed to be boosted, and they were better off because of it. Most armor pieces can also be dyed to look like whatever you want them to look like, so looking alike a clown with a different color armor in every slot isn't an issue.

This particular set of armor, though, has another problem in that it is heavy as heck to carry. Unless you have a lot of pieces in other slots that give you a lot of strength, you're going to become encumbered easily with it, just the same as you would with bronze. So it's not worth farming except to sell to people like you who don't know any better.
