DANG!

DANG! everyone knows about this thing. I had no idea about it... I was simply going through the Warrens to get to Stonebrunt for the Sash quest... and I got aggrod... But I was a 23rd lvl ranger at the time with a Wurmslayer/centi SS combo.. I hit him with grasping roots since he was light blue to me.. and the I killed the others pretty fast.. Then root broke. and I had to fight him.. And its a good thing I needed money at the time.. Or I would have never lotted the guy.. So I did.. Got the crown and went on to SBM... =P
Not too bad

It's not too hard to get some quality time in with the king - he's been free atleast half the time I've gone to visit him in the past week. The thing that actually killed my averages was playing during peak hours when there'd be a dozen or more high levels farming the place.

Darn high level farmer! (/em's 30th level troll SK picks up his plow and heads back into warrens). ;)
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 15 2001 at 2:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) thanks to the trivial loot being taken off i can like never get any of the named spawns!!!!! theres always some punk running around and killin em all just for the heck of it when i can get decent loot and xp from em!! DAMN YOU HIGH LVL'S!!!! DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
kill the king.

ok guys here is how i kill the king i am playing my lvl 22 SHD rettopmit at the time (loves the warrens and Stonebrunt) i will either have a partner oh ask for the aid of one of the higher lvl players in the zone to break the spawn rate one that king and the high shaman so there is a 10 minute delay between the spawns kill the king first then the shaman after they have been briken you can claim the throne king spawns right infront of it and since you already there and beating on king he don't have a pet and no shaman to heal him he is lvl 22 his ht does 221 dmg (same as me) and i cast vampiric embrace procs vampiric embrace shadow (when it feels like it) for a 12 hp dmg(king)and it heals me that much through the whole battle casting life spike at the end i am oom and have about 75 hp left this approach has worked many times

the crown drop on my last camp on the seventh spawn about seven hours camp .
soloing the King and High Shammy
# Nov 14 2001 at 5:32 AM Rating: Default
OK, here's a bit of advice on how to take them both. I have spent a lot of time soloing the King and High Shammy, from levels 26 - 28. The key is to stay in the far back right corner as you face the throne. the King will run directly to you with no adds this way. Also, for some reason the Howlers in the room dont seem to like his pet and will kill it for you. :)

Killed him probably 40+ times, got a ton of Cold Iron, the crown once, the Naginata once, and a ton of junk. If the duo is too hard for you at this level, try rooting the king to open the fight. draw the shammy to you, and root him in the right corner. After that, you can run back across the wall to the left corner to nuke the king to death. Doing it this way spreads the 2 high end mobs far enough apart that the shammy can't heal the king. kill him, loot up, and head for Paineel. I would do this a lot to stagger the spawns apart. Each has a 1hr 10min cycle or there abouts. Hope this helps.

I have killed the king many a time. At least in the 15-20 times range.

NEVER seen this.

BTW, past about level 32-33 or so, the king no longer drops cool stuff for you. God bless trivial loot code. Why they put it in this zone made no sense, even before trivial this zone was seriously undercrowded, and the idea of trivial is to aid newbies. Do you realize how few newbies can go to the Warrens? It's just damn inconvienant at times, specially if your a good race/class.

Another problem is if your low enough level to get loot from the king, your low enough to guarntee the high shaman will aid. So soloing you will almost always be facing both.

Before the trivial loot code was lifted, each boss was GUARANTEED to drop something interesting when killed - King would drop either Forlorn or Cold Iron armor, etc.

Since it was lifted, that is no longer the case. It is now RARE to get anything worthwhile off the Warrens bosses.

Well, the trivial loot code is gone now. I was pharming the Warrens last night with my 35th level mage, I've killed the king maybe 5 times before and twice last night. The previous 5 times I got exactly squat off of him worth keeping. Last night the first time I killed him I got the Cold Iron Pauldrons, the second time I got the Crown of the Forlorn and the Cold Iron Vambraces.

Stats are decent. =)

This has dropped 4 times in all my hunting in The Warrens. =( 4 times, out of how many hundreds of times he has died? :/ That's pretty rare on my server, then again.. I do not always hunt there, and I have seen a few on the market. This is not a good monk item due to the weight, however, this is a fairly nice low to mid level headpiece for any of the melee classs listed there. It's got svs magic, AC, STR (which raises your attack, even if it will weigh one after the STR buff) and 20 hitpoints. Bear in mind that 20 hitpoints here and there DOES add up. Especially when you're young. I can count dozens of times I would have lived if I had had +20 hitpoints more. ::shrug:: It's nice, it's inexpensive, even if it is rare, it is decent. It also looks like chain, as I have one in my bank. =)

The king and I
# Jul 04 2001 at 1:46 AM Rating: Decent
Just spent a good few hours in The Warrens today. Me and a buddy checked various places, first the chef and smithy, but they dropped nothing useful. Then we went to the prince, he was a slow spawn and after 3 kills and no drops, we left. We then came into the Throne Room, spent around 3 hours there. High Shaman was blue at 23, and the King was yellow. He was not too strong in melee when he was alone, but good luck with that. When you attack the king, he first HTs for 250 dmg, then he runs to you, but not straight to you, he hugs the wall behind him and then passes by the room where the lorekeeper is at, then heads to you. In his little parade to get to you, he often pulls everything in the area with him. He is not a hard fight for a group of high teens low 20s, but the adds are killer. And everything in the area will aggro on ya, no matter how green. We killed King 3 times in 3 hours, so I'm guessing he's an hourly spawn, and we received a cold iron helmet and mask and then nothing worth while the 3rd time. I'd love to stay and camp him, but keeping the area clear is a real pain, and when you get the High Shaman with him, it's real rough. Hope this helps someone!

23rd Bard on Saryn

BTW, if you're in there just for the loot, killing the surronding kobolds will generate lots of soft wicker armor, in those 3 hours we got about 2 full suits.

The King and Shaman can be taken together with relative ease by 4 level 20's certainly. The best way to kill these two is as follows:
1 - Clear the room...mana conservation is key for casters, as spawn times are faitly short in this room, and you'll need to take out the King as quickly as you can once the room is clear.

2 - If a necro or mage pet is available, have them attack the High Shaman. This will draw the King's HT, and at level 20 my necro pet was usually able to fight the shammy alone until we finished the king.

3 - Once the King HTs the pet, attack and kill first the king, then the shammy, then the king's pet if its still running around

Hope this helps. I've accomplished this many times, primarily with groups of 4, levels 18-22 normally.

Drops from the king
# May 15 2001 at 9:43 AM Rating: Default
I killed this guy with my level 21 Warrior. The King was Red at 21 and he HRM touches. (SK mob) He did more damage to me with the harm touch than in melee. I killed him 4 times. He spawns about 10 mins after the high Shaman is killed. (about an hour between HS spawns).
He dropped Bamboo(ring) armor.
Cold Iron collar
Cold Iron arms
Cold Iron legs
COld Iron crown (very nice)
Assorted bronze weapons.

There are lots of other named spawns near by to keep you company why you wait.

Are you saying that you soloed him? Unless you had some serious PLing going on, I seriously doubt this could be accomplished solo at level 21 by any class.

Magic save +5 too
# Mar 21 2001 at 10:58 AM Rating: Default
Hello, the pic shows it but the main scren does not. This item also carries a sv magic of 5. Not a bad drop from a Mob below level 30. King seems to drop this RARELY. I have killed him over 10 times and only saw this once. Amazingly enough, I got the 1st live kill on Povar and this dropped. Nothing worthwhile had dropped from the King for me since. I haven't even received any cold iron junk from him.
