Am I the only one who thinks that the right-clicky effect on the ranger breastplate kind of sucks? I mean, compared to the other classes. Warriors, Rogues, Monks and SKs get a right-clicky heal! Necros get a freaking right-click conjure corpse, and Enchs get Rune IV!

We got stuck with Call of Earth! Whoopdeedoo.

At 53, you and a group of friends should be able to get a couple Gantru Charms in a night, if hunting at the Zoneline of Umbral Planes & ME.....

A former guild of mine raided often, usually got two to three over a couple hours......

They are not "uber" by any means, but add a nice boost to a lot of stats.......
Kael questions and notes
# Nov 06 2002 at 2:54 PM Rating: Good
Hello all --

In an effort to save time I have consolodated a few notes that I have from my scrapbook, and I have posted them in the various Kael quested armour pages to help people out.

1. Yes, Halfling rangers can equip these. The screen shot is pre-halfling-ranger era, and Illia will update if one of us send in a photo.

2. Yes, wonderful AC. Kael Armours tend to be more AC based with lower stats and saves than their CoV faction armour counterparts

3. Yes, there is a soft cap for AC. Most level 60 rangers try to shoot for about 1100/1200 AC and then work either hp, saves, or stats depending on their playstyle and hunting locations.

4. I love my Kael armour as it allows me to focus AC in a few of the items and then a bit more flexable with the other items that I have to focus them on either stats or resists.

5. These are giant faction quested legs. There are 3 major faction groups -- Dorfs, giants and dragons. Giants are further divided into Kromiff, Kromzek, and Tormax faction. In order to do this quest, you will need to get your Kromzek faction to warmly, and it is pretty smart for you to get your Tormax faction to at least Dubious. Kromiff faction is not required ( I was KOS at the time of my turn in), but it makes it a lot easier for you to get around in Kael if you are not concerned about all the Kromiff trash bonking you. (On a side note, I found it a small challenge and a lot of fun attempting to sneek around and camoing trying to get past them all -- the journey is half the fun :-) /giggle)

6. For more details on the quest check out the quest and the required gemmies for each item listed above.

7. For improving your faction there are a series of different quests that you can do to impove your giant factions. It is theorectically possible to become Ally to all 3 Kings (Dorf, CoV, and Tormax) it is very very difficult to maintain these factions if you are in a raiding guild. (To do this Kill giants to improve/max your COV and Dorf fctions and then kill Velks the Sorc about 40 times .. difficult, but not impossible) Most people find that hunting the CoV dragons and drakes while hoping for a set of chain to drop is generally enough. Killing some (100) dorfs, turning in their heads(30 or so) and turning in Kobald paws (eeks I had turned in too many to count) from Velks lab will generally finsh your faction hits off to the point where you can complete the quest.

8. The Kael armour items drop in the Temple of Vesh. in the north and west wings. The west wing is commonly hunted for this purpose. There are a couple points in which to pull to, but I like the "zone out" room if LTK is not up. If she is up then we raid her and then do the armour farming :-)).

9. Generally, a well balanced team of 3 velious equiped groups is the number I try to shot for when we do this. Standard mix of 3 MA type, 2 chanter, 2 shammy, 3 cleric as a baseline, with the critical pieces being a CoV faction mage available to CoTH the raiding groups into whatever location you want to pull to, and some form of FD puller. Round out your 18 people with a smattering of rangers rogues, casters and such, and you should be set for a happy hunt.

10. Watch the gating mobs - mobs gting and getting summoned is never a fun way to have a raid end. (Remember white and blue ... white and blue ...)

Just a few notes and comments. Hope this helps someone :-)
Rangers and AC
# Oct 04 2002 at 10:03 AM Rating: Decent
Ok the Kael Quest armor is great Ranger gear. There is better in the game but not alot of it. If you can get the Kael Forest Stalker Gear by all means do so. The Golden Leaf would also be good as it has a bit less AC but good resists and resists become very important.
Now my rant: AC is very important for a ranger. I often tank for exp groups and even in raids you can find ranger self as your groups 2nd melee. You are going to have to take a beating as a melee and there isn't anyway around it that I have found. AC and HP become critical then. No you will not replace a well equipped warrion and you should not try to. But what happens when that warrior dies and its your turn to defend your group? Better AC and HP and Resists, at the high end they all count.

Can Halflings wear any of this Velious armor?
Yes, it is Halfling usuable
# Oct 21 2002 at 4:59 PM Rating: Good
Hello dear

Please remember that many of the screenshots for the velious quested armours were done before the wee-little people were allowed to be rangers. I always thought the stuff would be too big for their little frames, as we half-elves are the same size as the humans and the woodelves. I suppose they have some means to take out the seams and trim it down a bit ...

As a 60 ranger, I am often the tank in a exp group or some quick epic mob kill, when a plate class can not be readily found. A bit lower on the hit points and AC, I tank only as well as say a comperably equipped 56 plate class, but I have no isses holding the aggro on what I pull, so the healers remain focused on 1 target for their heals.

Rangers can tank and hold aggro well - if the situation calls for it- do not let your freinds tell you otherwise. Be smart when you tank -- generally though I would rather sit back and plink the mobs with arrows.

Happy hunting

I had asked the same question, then today on some misc site I saw one of the quested Velious ranger armor and it did indeed say Halflings could equip it.. I would assume all the quested velious armor would be Halfing useable. (almost killed my halfling ranger today to make a human one because I thought I'd never be able to wear thes armors)
AC
# May 26 2002 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
To the ranger asking about AC...yes I currently have 1487 self buffed AC. And yes it helps......A LOT. Agility helps some also..as well as the natural (durability, agility etc..advanced skills) When my primal sword procs my ac goes up a little more. I am still using a tolan's BP and am pondering upgrading to Forest Stalkers sometime. Sitting with around 2800 hp's self buffed...somewhat low. But I solo goranga's in Maidens with ease..without bow kiting etc...only spells I cast are snare and self buffs.

Im looking at the 3 armor....the kael...the thurgadin...and of course the SS and personally ive been a good friend of AC str agi and dex *especially AC and agi* so my 2cp is kael be best way to go though it takes some time to get faction up with them considering most rangers KoS to them at start. and that is my 2cp =)

Forest Stalker's is all for the AC. It's got the worst out of all the 3 armor for resists, and melee stats. Golden Leaf is the perfect combo for AC, buffs, and resists. This is good armor for a soloing ranger, but I'd rather have a full set of GL anyday IMHO.

ac means a lot yea but i like tolan bp for the gate, helps a ton getting to raids, i have 1074 ac self buffed wearing two kael armor pieces(arms and bracer), i'd rather keep tolan bp for the time being

Forest Stalkers or Golden Leaf?
# Apr 25 2001 at 10:51 PM Rating: Default
I was wondering, is Forest Stalkers or Golden Leaf armor better? One has higher ac, sta, agi, dex and wis, but the other has mana and hp with a little less of those things.

RE: ... damn.
# Apr 14 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Default
You shouldnt be comparing a Kael quested bp to a PoG dropped bp. The ranger PoG equivalent bp that drops in Hate is only 37ac. The SK Kael bp is well over 50ac.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 18 2001 at 1:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I know that rangers are "offensive" tanks, and paladins are "defensive" tanks. This bp is mind boggiling to me. Why is verant give rangers better attack and now better armor class. I stand amazed how VI likes to mess around with the hybrids.

You're out of touch and out of date.. All Kael armors were vastly upgraded over the other quest armors since they are considered to be far harder to obtain. The Kael warlord BP is 59 AC reportedly. Paladin and SK BPs are 54 AC. So the ranger BP at 48 AC is not so hot compared to these. People who get these armors are fighting regularly in Western Wastes, Dragon Necropolis, Temple of Veeshan, and ultimately Sleeper's Tomb. The rest of us, who are not playing that high up on the spectrum get plenty of other choices for armor, each commensurate with the risk involved in obtaining them.

RE: Kinda shocked Pal
# Mar 18 2001 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
Hmm.. last time I looked at the Kael Pally bp.. it had 54 ac.. so I am not sure what you are talking about.
RE: Kinda shocked Pal
# Mar 30 2001 at 7:34 PM Rating: Default
The post listed the AC correctly..you just did not take the time to read it accurately.
RE: Kinda shocked Pal
# Mar 19 2001 at 10:20 AM Rating: Default
Yes, but 54 is still more than 48, and the paladins also have more defense and hit points than rangers, which lets them survive longer in combat.
RE: Kinda shocked Pal
# Oct 05 2002 at 1:58 PM Rating: Decent
We'll rangers aren't meant to tank, it just happens some times. Look at the spells Jolt, Jolting Blades. It's all so that Pallies like you take the hits, thats your job, we are just there to inflict dmg and protect casters from adds. Pallies should have the higher ac/hp's than rangers, it keeps everything in balance. I am kind of surprised that its not a higher ac on the pally bp at least say 58-60.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 17 2001 at 10:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would like to comment on how this is the second best breast plate in game, only 1 beats it, the "warlords breast plate" the kael warrior bp and thats only 1 ac more, i mean this is better then two of the other SoV warrior bps, this is one bad **** ranger item
