I did some minor hunting (with a party) at the entrance of Velks Lab and silks drop there also...Im 41 Cleric...so if you can find a party wanting to hunt there ...the EXP is outstanding btw...

Actually us "wisdom casters" with our cords and all can use this, at the very least I'm losing one wisdom and gaining 4 int and 4 sv cold, and probably more as the quest continues. Yes us poor human druids need wisdom too, but after 2yrs+, lvl 54 and counting, I have yet to my wisdom to 200 and I'm not real worried about it will get there in time.

The Seal? got absolutely no use for it at least at this stage plenty of wis items for the range slot.

pottery skill needed?
# Mar 31 2001 at 7:54 PM Rating: Decent
how much pottery skill do you need for this?
RE: pottery skill needed?
# Apr 05 2001 at 12:26 PM Rating: Default
I tried at 80 and failed. Tried again ag 120 and failed. I got my skill up to 128 and got it. It was trivial so trivial is somewhere between 120 and 128. Cost me about 50pp to raise my skill and about 1 1/2 hours of boredom.
RE: pottery skill needed?
# Apr 10 2001 at 2:50 PM Rating: Good
I actually sat at the wheel to a skill of 122, which is what the medium bowls max out at, and had no problem..it was trivial then.... good luck, Also, The Vellium vapors can be Gotten as many times as you like, as long as you dont have any others in your inv =P Nice item.

They're adding this quest in slowly. Just go back every once and a while after a patch and ask Bor about how to further advance your reputation with the coldain it looks like.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 16 2001 at 10:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Was reading these posts and I almost fell over laughing. For those of you who are happy cause this is a quest and not a camp...HELLO!!!!
RE: Quests
# Mar 16 2001 at 10:59 AM Rating: Default
Also, forgot to mention in the previous post, but the stuff off the orcs and spiders is used in trade skills as well as this quest.
RE: Quests
# Mar 16 2001 at 10:58 AM Rating: Default
Actually.... This quest requires items that are drops of common monsters, not items from one single rare spawn monster. You don't have to camp one spot in the crystal caverns to get the pieces of velium from the orcs, you could wander around the caves and kill them (this would get you a lot more orcs, but is more risky if you arn't a high enough level to easily kill them). Similar with the crystalline silk from crystal crawlers. In fact, the quest description says that if you camp the spot where you found the dwarf instead of wandering around, you get jumped by giants. This quest, along with the previous quests in the shawl seiries, all seem to be verant's ideas about solving the 'EverCamp' problem with velious.

Whoever originally made that message obviously just doesn't understand that CAMPING an item means you camp the one mob that drops the item for xxx hours until it spawns with it. You can get this stuff while exp'ing, or sometimes buy it from vendors where people have sold it.

These quests are designed for a couple of additional functions that I can see, in addition to being a good quest.

1. It makes you explore zones that you might not have seen before. i.e. Crystal Caverns and maybe Skyshrine, since Velium seems to drop easily there.

2. Money sink. It takes money to raise the trade skills, so some amount of cash is removed from the game. Granted it doesn't cost much to raise pottery up to the desired skill range, but I did dump an extra 100pp or so to get my pottery skill from 122 to 144. Those large bowl sketches were almost 2pp each! Figure on the number of people that NEVER would have raised pottery except for this quest (I'm one of them) and they've pulled some cash from the game.

Couple of notes:

Get someone that has good dragon faction (apprehensive or better) to check the two cooks in Skyshrine for the velium bricks and pieces. I bought all mine plus some extra from them. You can auction for the crystal spider silks easily in EW and crystal caverns also.

but would any non-caster really want this? It's NO-DROP, so no "farming" (most quest items are anyway), but I can't see any melee/hybrid using this. Just wondering why the all/all. Maybe just to do the quest/get the exp for the quest?
RE: no offense
# Apr 11 2001 at 10:35 AM Rating: Decent
Bah, maybe they want it for the CR? =)

Or the faction with the dorfies

Hmmmm, this is item 4 of a sequntial quest. BTW what is the final item for all these quests? Oh you mean you don't know yet, them maybe the final item will be something a hybred would like. The coldain insignet rings are like that, you have to go almost to the end to get something worth wearing.
RE: no offense
# Mar 16 2001 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
Not to be snotty or anything, but this ISN"T for hybrids. it's all all just like the insignia rings. an i think it kicksarse that they made a nifty quest like this requiring all the skills i whittled away my low-mid 30's with.

More importantly, how many shawls do you know of that give this much int? And, if it goes all the way to AC 8, +8int/wis/vs cold? My, oh my! Now, to wade into Crystal Caves for some silks...
RE: no offense
# Mar 17 2001 at 4:54 AM Rating: Good
Hear, hear!

You WIS casters may not care much for it with your braided ivory cords and a half dozen other shoulder items, but us poor struggling human wizards with barely enough INT to blow our noses in the morning think that this is a great idea.

I'm a dwarven cleric, wisdom is sitting at an even 200 now (with the addition of the seal from the previous step) and I happen to enjoy the quest. I'm doing it, not because it's a great item, but instead because it's something you can't buy. You have to earn it yourself. And some of these steps aren't easy. Feeding the Coldain was hard and this was no cakewalk for me either, two death squads in 20mins and the first one was pretty much instant death. The second one I managed to evade :)
RE: no offense
# Mar 20 2001 at 3:37 AM Rating: Default
Another thing is that is is probably the best shoulder int item I have seen that an Iksar Necro can wear, the second best I've seen is the Mantle of Mirth, which is only 2int, and has a few minuses.

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 28 2001 at 6:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wisdom users will only do this quest just to get the very good Seal of Thoridain. Its not worth the trouble to say you want the shawl unless it goes down like the ring and gives you an ac 8 wis 8 shoulder. I could see it as a Shaman/Druid item and NOT cleric. We have way better options than this.
RE: Anyway
# May 17 2001 at 3:37 PM Rating: Default
Human wizards? Try getting your INT up as an Iksar necromancer! This quest is a blessing, especially because this race actually starts out as apprehensive to an iksar, which is awesome for someone who is hated everywhere.

Today I was hunting griffs for the early parts of this quest when I heard Tanik casting behind me. so I hailed and he asked for help. so I said I will help you. thats when he said the giants were after him there were coming over that hill. he pointed to hill. kill the leader and give me his vial (this is all paraphrased of course I didn't get a log) Tanik then felldown like he was dead. as soon as he did 4-5 giants spawned and ran to him. I just got out of the way. interesting that this quest can come out more than one way
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 10 2001 at 10:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hes not for that quest you dumn immigrant damn **** you can take taht vial and put it in my butt that isnt tanik its some guy hammerfrost for ring of the 8th quest giatns are hard as hard stuff ye take that! go work at taco bell and make tacos u dirty immigrant. dumn immigrant ways making burritos bla your annoying eat my ****
RE: different events
# Mar 15 2001 at 10:00 PM Rating: Default
Tanik is also for the coldain insignia ring quest. If you are doing that quest, you need to get the head of the named giant that ambushes you and give it to Tanik. This is part of the 4th ring quest.
RE: different events
# Mar 15 2001 at 10:42 PM Rating: Default

The dwarf you are taling about is Tain Hammerfrost. he is just over the first hill west of the bridge and is for the fourth part of the ring quest line.

If quests like these were the only way to get the "UBER" equpment then EverQuest might be a description as well as a name.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 10 2001 at 9:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) god shut up yes verant has lots of items that people "farm" "camp" and whatever gay names people came up with. who cares if it takes time all stuff does seriously is this game eeveryones life? its just a game for enjoyment lighten up chill out. i myself use it to make plans later that night but tahts just ymself yes items that u want are hard and this games good but i think of it this way get high enough go to college play somewhat through college take some massive bonghits than sell your account and make lots of cash and spend it on weed and get more bong hits yippy! bong hits yay! weeds where the fun is at lets call it Everchronic thatd be a fun name the game of smoking dope yay fun yay fun smoke blunts yay heh whatever this post is useless so are all of them if u wanna whine ive been camping this than be on EQ camping it see ya =D
RE: EverQuest.
# Mar 20 2001 at 4:38 AM Rating: Good
I happen to enjoy quest far more than camping. Nothing beats soloing low greens for 16 hours waiting for a mammoth cloak. I'd much rather have my wits tested on a quest than my gems skills tested on an endless camp.
RE: EverQuest.
# Mar 26 2001 at 5:09 PM Rating: Default
Unfortunately all the "quests" involve camping multiple things each for hours on end, or even worse, training up a skill for days (click click click click) that you will never use for anything else.
RE: EverQuest.
# May 17 2001 at 4:55 AM Rating: Default
How do you know the skill will never be used again... maybe the cats on luclin like exotic pottery, or maybe they hunger for a saucy bunnymeat sandwich ;)
RE: EverQuest.
# Apr 30 2001 at 11:54 PM Rating: Good
Skills you will never use? I for one use pottery alot now that I can make a thurgadin gate potion. as a meelee class it is great to know that I can get out of the planes with a simple click instead of begging some wizzie or druid to port me.

Hehe, I'm curious why you think they named it EverQuest? It is a description as well as a name, if it weren't for the quests they could have named it EverCamp or EverKill...

I do see Krystalla's point exactly. FAR TOO MUCH stuff can only be gotten by camping forever... much more of it should be gotten via Quests instead. Two thumbs up to Verant for this shawl line of quests for the Casters, and for the Insignia Ring quests for the Melees.
