Thurgadin is a medium green. What does the SS look like, gold? Not sure about Kael either.

Kael is a dark green rygorr, sorta like Ivy etched but deeper green but not too much deeper.

Ac wise all the velious armor adds up very very close to one another. Even though pieces will not be alike. Look at the warrior kael BP, ac 49. Yet one of the other ones (name slips my mind) is like ac 46. But the other pieces of kael armor are less ac than those of skyshrine and thurga. Because the BP has so much.
What it comes down to is how you want your stats, what type of look you're going for and the difficulty level in obtaining certain items. Some are better than others in peoples opinions but it all boils down to preferance.

Actually while AC is nice for a Ranger, you shouldn't be getting hit that much. That is the tanks job. SV's are what is needed in upper lvls, AC + SV's will save your life. Fighting Dragons and such AOE's are what kill you.
