Kael vs SS
# Oct 10 2003 at 7:29 AM Rating: Decent
I would rather prefer Skyshrine due to overall stats. At higher lvls rangers shouldn't worry to much on AC cause you should be hitting high crits with your arrows by your mid-50's. Dex is more preferred.
whats better
# Dec 04 2002 at 6:54 PM Rating: Default
whats better, these kael ones or the thurgadin ones? or talons darkwood greaves?
RE: whats better
# Jan 22 2003 at 7:30 PM Rating: Default
hard choice, most rangers will say thurgadin, cuz it offers the most hps. kael legs give most ac ,but not much rangers look for just ac. thurg gives 10 sta 60 hps, though far less ac,while tolans ,mmm, well no hps or saves there, only the dex might favor those (but only slightly.P)
i wonder, why didn't you ask for skyshrine legs as well ?

Summarry of thread -- and a few notes
# Nov 06 2002 at 2:45 PM Rating: Excellent
Hello all --

In an effort to save time I have consolodated a few notes from the pages of text below.

1. Yes, Halfling rangers can equip these. The screen shot is pre-halfling-ranger era, and Illia will update if one of us send in a photo.

2. Yes, wonderful AC and splendid Wisdom. One of the few armour items that us mid-level warders have that bears such a lovely wisdom score.

3. Yes, there is a soft cap for AC. Most level 60 rangers try to shoot for about 1100/1200 AC and then work either hp, saves, or stats depending on their playstyle and hunting locations. This item is a critical piece for giant faction rangers as the 32 AC can not be overlooked easily.

4. Yes Druids need wisdom. No, these are not druid useable (/bonk bewielders me ...)

5. These are giant faction quested legs. There are 3 major faction groups -- Dorfs, giants and dragons. Giants are further divided into Kromiff, Kromzek, and Tormax faction. In order to do this quest, you will need to get your Kromzek faction to warmly, and it is pretty smart for you to get your Tormax faction to at least Dubious. Kromiff faction is not required ( I was KOS at the time of my turn in), but it makes it a lot easier for you to get around in Kael if you are not concerned about all the Kromiff trash bonking you. (On a side note, I found it a small challenge and a lot of fun attempting to sneek around and camoing trying to get past them all -- the journey is half the fun :-) /giggle)

6. For more details on the quest check out the quest and the required gemmies for each item listed above.

7. For improving your faction there are a series of different quests that you can do to impove your giant factions. It is theorectically possible to become Ally to all 3 Kings (Dorf, CoV, and Tormax) it is very very difficult to maintain these factions if you are in a raiding guild. (To do this Kill giants to improve/max your COV and Dorf fctions and then kill Velks the Sorc about 40 times .. difficult, but not impossible) Most people find that hunting the CoV dragons and drakes while hoping for a set of chain to drop is generally enough. Killing some (100) dorfs, turning in their heads(30 or so) and turning in Kobald paws (eeks I had turned in too many to count) from Velks lab will generally finsh your faction hits off to the point where you can complete the quest.

8. The Kael armour items drop in the Temple of Vesh. in the north and west wings. The west wing is commonly hunted for this purpose. There are a couple points in which to pull to, but I like the "zone out" room if LTK is not up. If she is up then we raid her and then do the armour farming :-)).

9. Generally, a well balanced team of 3 velious equiped groups is the number I try to shot for when we do this. Standard mix of 3 MA type, 2 chanter, 2 shammy, 3 cleric as a baseline, with the critical pieces being a CoV faction mage available to CoTH the raiding groups into whatever location you want to pull to, and some form of FD puller. Round out your 18 people with a smattering of rangers rogues, casters and such, and you should be set for a happy hunt.

10. Watch the gating mobs - mobs gting and getting summoned is never a fun way to have a raid end. (Remember white and blue ... white and blue ...)

Just a few notes and comments. Hope this helps someone :-)

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 13 2001 at 9:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Lol by the time you should start this quest you might alredy have planes armor for us rangers Thorny vines, and maybe some kunark armor like the Dark wood Tolan's.. in witch I got a mix of right now and im only 48 =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 12 2001 at 1:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Very impressive you are at 48, being as how helm, arms, gloves, and boots are all nominal cost on most servers. You must be very uber. /shiver

Getting AC higher is a big concern for EVERY class that might have the slightest chance of taking damage... Same with resists... evrything counts for something... and say going up against Cazic-Thule or some other bad beast I'd want every chance of resisting, taking less damage, and all around surviving. This is an effective and simply beefy piece of armor, not much better out there... Suck it up.

Sadly they resemble Ivy.

From what I've seen, just look at Ry'gorr, tint your monitor to full green, almost to the point where you might look like that dr00d who is in your group. Now place your hands around your character. Focus your eyes, and wala: Forest Stalker armor.

haha you sir are correct... hes no ranger... no ranger that could have a chance to get these would even have CLOSE to ivy?? legs on... your sick hehe
saves or not
# Mar 10 2001 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Take a look at the AC. I would wear this any day even if they had minus to those saves and the wisdom.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 10 2001 at 5:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The saves on these leggins are a joke, please make them + 5 at least or just add to the other stats.
RE: Saves blow
# Mar 11 2001 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default
Why must everyone complain about everything? No one will ever be happy in this game unless every piece of equipment they equip will give them +100 to every attribute in the game. Stop whining! IF all your Kael equipment gives you +1 or +2 to saves them that will equal around +5 to +10 which would be very nice. So stop whining about this particular piece of equipment. Many rangers are happy since this piece of equipment gives a nice boost to ac and wisdon, along with some other little touch ups to the rest of your stats. So be happy with what you get, and stop being unhappy with what you don't get!

I agree with Nin... Also, if you look at most of the rest of the Velious armor (other classes) you will find the same thing. 1-2 to all saves. These are ment to go in a complete set...and with the complete set you will have saves comparable to Planar armor, and perhaps a little more AC.

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 11 2001 at 8:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well it is kinda stupid how they have just 1 save to it, but it still rocks :)
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 11 2001 at 8:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) thats one more sv than u had to begin with stop whinning
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 10 2001 at 1:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol 14wisdom....druids are gonna be mad
RE: mad druids lol
# Mar 13 2001 at 2:36 PM Rating: Default
Heh... did you never care to look at Ranger Fear Armor? Ranger Class Armors generally have more WIS than Druids.... so no biggie here.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 10 2001 at 8:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Nooooo!!!! I have too much mana as is, I wish Kael BP was effect clarity 2. ***** druids! :p hehe their kael leggings are nice too, and the 32 ac sure does solve alot of defense issues other rangers whine about excessively /glare. Rangers are a class that take CARE in every piece of equipment, I highly recommend picking another class if you want AC and don't have a good guild/team to help you get the gear you need to be able to take some hits from mobs. No matter how hard you jolt at high levels, you'll sometimes be putting out way too much damage and will need to tank. As for everyone else that calls rangers horrible 'tanks'... heh, I'll see you in the fields :) /rant off ;p
RE: mad druids lol
# Mar 11 2001 at 12:26 PM Rating: Default
Well, yes the higher ac will help the rangers out a bit, but the real problem why Rangers take damage is not necessarily the ac but the lower cap on defense and defensive skills =p. So sorry, high ac greaves are not going to have rangers taking warriors or even pally/sk's places anytime soon....
RE: mad druids lol
# Aug 15 2002 at 5:07 AM Rating: Decent
not necissarily, i find my 58 ranger tanking over 60pallys/SKs at times, in txp groups that is. i undersand that ill never be a tank on a raid, but look, with am3 i can out damage a rogue hehe.

oh i just got me a pair of these babys today, as much as i like SS armor, kael pants are much better than SS.
RE: mad druids lol
# Mar 10 2001 at 7:52 AM Rating: Default
Oh yeah... I can see it now... the Druids start leaving the party cause the Ranger is casting all their DoTs, DDs, buffs and heals heheheheheh... Seriously tho, the only thing that high wisdom is gonna do is help us Fletch the really hard bows a little better.... well, and maybe cast one or two more of our rinky dink spells....

I think it is an awesome piece of equipment and look forward to getting my legs in it :)
RE: mad druids lol
# Mar 26 2002 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
LOL im soryr but if you think our spells are "rinky dink" you sir have problems. a 500 nuke, 300 nukes Gheal, sow, dots they r nothing rinky dink. IF you were in the best armor in the game for a ranger you wouldhave an extra 1k mana, thats another 1650 healing. And to teh guy who is ******** abt saves OMG its better then NO saves. 90% of the people who post here will never see these, dont post non sense.
