Its certainly an option to refuse characters based on race and class. However, in roleplaying you have to consider there may be circumstances that these characters are thrown together. If you are all after the same goal. There is no reason to say that for the length of this quest/journey for a (Insert item or npc here) that characters can't put their contempt aside to accomplish a similar goal. There is valid reason to believe that they will not perform lasting friendships or even that they will be cordial with each other through the journey. But it is certainly feasible that they would group together.

I do agree with you though...that no one roleplays and thats sad. Its a rare delight to meet a character on the game who speaks and acts as their character and not just a player.

How can this item be used by a shaman? None of the races listed fo this item can be shamans (shamen?). Looks like another Velious typo.

I was the one who sent this in....forgot to say I sold it for 1k on prexus. the faction hits you get for killing the pirates is "Pirates of Iceclad" thats the only one. I think they might drop an entire set of gear, I have a raiper and hood that I sold and forgot stats. the pirates are easy for a necro to solo at lv34+.....just watch out for the backstab its like 200+.

You really hate monks and hope they get less cool gear? WTF? Have you ever grouped with a good monk or are you just ignorant?

Monks are a great addition to any group (as are ALL the classes...) if they are played right. The reason this is a non monk Item, btw... is because its a small cloak, and only small classes can wear it. Thus "gnomish"...

I really hope less people see different classes as a reason to play favorites and as a power struggle. I mean, the reason for so many classes and races is not to cause problems or decide which is "best" but because in a group they really accent each other well.

Learn how to work together people, or learn nothing from such a cool game as EQ.

Outstanding post Ashremm. I'm glad I have my filter on and people rated that post down so low that I didn't have to read the drivel. I can guess what it said though, and I'm glad you posted against it. I will never refuse a pc for a group based on race/class. That's ridiculous (unless a specific class is needed, ie. not sure if anymore, but needing a rogue to get into the Hole). I do refuse them based on level (if too low/high), prior bad experiences (i.e. a druid that doesn't mem snare in a known bad train dungeon, "melee" class wants to practice a new skill w/o asking if ok, etc.), or time constraints (it is known the group will be disbanding in under 30-45 mins).
Anyway, I owe props to a guild (Elidor of Tunare server) member named Samsing "Mr. Fist" Pao, a monk. I am a proud owner of a GhoulBane thanks to him! WOOT SAMSING!

I used to refuse characters based solely upon their race or profession. It's called roleplaying.

Operated that way for a year and a half. I've changed since I've become convinced no one in the game role plays anymore with their multiple twinks wearing hand-me-down items, powerleveled characters, and all mixed professioned and racial parties (necros with clerics, dark elves with high elves, etc).

In a game setup to NOT roleplay, trying to do it day in a day out is too draining.

Anyhow, to responde to the original thread, it is OKAY to refuse based solely upon a character's race or profession ... for the roleplay reason ... if that is what you are doing.
