Get yourself in a high-end raiding guild and do some of the raid encounters that drop this stuff. Trivial is one word that does not come to mind.

You must remember that the gear dropped is scaled to the difficulty of the encounter beaten. This is what's called End-Game. The thing is, everytime a new expansion is released, the End-Game gets much harder.

5 years ago, players would have asked much the same as did you, had they seen some of the gear that drops from single-group content available in game now. It's all a matter of scale.

I beleive it's called progress :)

Additionally, to make this type of gear available, you need a raid force of people all looking for gear updates just as you are. So once you have a peice, you look to your next upgrade. Not of the same peice, of course, but of any slot that might now be falling behind. You must do this while 53 other people are doing the exact same.

Gear updates don't go to everyone, it takes time to gear up your guild. Once you have, there is usually a new expansion released, and you start again! Such is the reason EverQuest has been around for so long. Old content becomes trivial as players become more powerful, and so new content is released and the system continues to recur.

Hardly.

While having lots of nice gear enables you to do things others cant, there is still plenty of challenging content out there. Sure, the stats may seem ridiculous to you, but you cant keep a game alive by making the same gear over and over again - any MMO needs to progress to stay alive.

Lots of high end gear doesnt at all trivialize loot. Example: item/focus effects. As a ranger especially, I have to balance my loot according to their effects, ie: Idealy you will want Haste, Cleave, Ferocity, and Heal Focus with a good mix of other effects that will determine how you can play your class; things like Improved Dodge, Improved Parry, Offensive and Defensive Spell haste, Mana Preservation, etc. I recently swapped out my spell haste helm for a fero 6 helm, and now my heal takes almost a full second more to cast. Its great for dps but not so good when I need a quik heal.

To say that having high end gear makes the game trivial is not a very well informed opinion.
