as of today does anyone know whether this quest is still broken or not?
RE: still broken
# Apr 23 2004 at 4:24 AM Rating: Decent
Nope its not still broken. It was never broken so to speak. It was, is, and continues to be very much overpowered and it gives rise to a number of situations that can be exploited by it. So it was removed from the game, they made the one piece impossible to get, and eventually admitted to removing the quest and having the item no longer drop.

You could use it to Mega Jump like in Quake. You could also knock NPC through/over walls that they couldn't get out of and that you couldn't get in

ok forgive me, i'm kinda slow ... perhaps if i could target/see (not sure if its line of sight tho) the mob w/o drawing aggro i could "knock NPC through/over walls that they couldn't get out of" well maybe if pathing allowed ... but need to test it more. mega jump ... as in knockback someone with it in duel to hurl them?? the knockback effecnt isnt too great or far but perhaps. hey thanks for the ideas! cheers!

edit: btw npc's don't take falling damage from this thing from what i can tell ... though supposedly they used to ... =/

1. No.
2. Sort of.
3. Probably not; there are, maybe, 8 or so of them over all the servers.

It is modelled after the BFG 2000 of Doom fame. If you cast identify on it you will get the item lore: "Model 2000". It is an easter egg; once they have been found out in a massive game such as this, they are quickly removed from circulation.

10K damage
# Nov 29 2001 at 12:11 AM Rating: Default
I took this ammount once when I zoned from Surefall Glade into Qeynos Hills and somehow "fell" below the ground. I could look down and see the moon ticking along it's path, and for a while I could look up and see the underside of the ground until I fell too far away to see it anymore.

After a while of running downwards after Lev ran out it said it was moving me to a "Safe" area. I hit the ground and went SPLAT! taking 10K damage. I petitioned a GM but none were online at the time so I ran to my corpse and looted all but an arrow from it so that I could petition again when I logged back on.

When I logged on I petitioned a GM and he told me that it wasn't in the right "safe" spot for that sort of thing and he couldn't rez me. I let him know that I was running in circles at the time to try and reach the moon early and he told me to hold on a second while he checked my record. He gave me the rez since I hadn't asked for anything suspicious in the past and I was happy and took a screen shot of him. :)

Two lessons to be learned from this. First: don't run if this sort of thing happens to you. Just sit still and go splat so you'll be in the right place. Also use /report and your character name so it will send a report of what's in your dialog box to the GM's so they can see it for your petition. Second: GM's keep a record of suspicious rezes that they give out, and probably of many of the other things that they have to mediate. Arguements, foul language, and other sorts of things. So watch yourself. :)

I've seen this happen too. Happened to a Pally friend of mine, and ALMOST happened to my monk in Qhills. I zoned out from Blackburrow, and was transported the the crossroads (safezone nonsense) - the ground vanished and I fell for well over 5 minutes. Took some crazy screenshots of my Uber-Skydiving expedition. I never actually landed, just did a /q and when I relogged, I was fine, sitting next to the the Xroads stone. Qhills has some obvious bugs that I'm not sure they'll ever really figure out.

well, I dont see how this relates to this subject; but this is a recognized error by the CS team, and following the steps shown hold true. Good Advice if this ever happens.

P.S. He's also right about GMs keeping record, and guides for that matter, so don't mouth off to them if you want a little favor on occasion such as this.

Frirst this drops off the chests each time so its not hard to get these.

second my ranger was in EK for the halloween GM events and an EE did a knock back on me while I was on the hills. I took 10,000 non melee damage from the fall. I could not beleave this so I took a screen shot.
RE: rope
# Nov 25 2001 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Oh btw, 10,000 non melee fall dmg is a known bug, and GMs will give you a free rez, if you send them a report of the screen that says 10,000 dmg from a fall, and petition them. They are actively trying to reproduce this bug so they can remove it. I did not know that till recently. Just an FYI.

Updated to 20k after PoP, since players can, indeed, exceed 10k hp.
RE: rope
# Mar 20 2002 at 7:18 PM Rating: Decent
Falling into the chasm in OT and falling a few feet and taking 10K damage are 2 different things. I have taken 10k damage several times. Trying to get out of the water in AKanon..LOADING please wait....ever fall between two objects and get stuck? Like the statues at the outpost in OT? Jam yourself between the wall and a statue...if you do it right you will die from 10K damage when you wriggle your way out.
RE: rope
# Apr 18 2003 at 9:10 PM Rating: Default
The game calculates falling damage based on the time from "start of fall" to "end of fall" not the change in z-coord.

So, if you fall from a step, and get suspended somehow for 3 sec, the game computes that as if you had fallen from a height that required 3 sec to hit the ground.

Thats why you can get 10k'd during a port. So many get pilled in one spot that you hang there, and when you finally hit the ground the game thinks "SPLAT".

The time is also multiplied by your amount overweight as well. If you are very very encumbered, the slighest fall can kill.

... a short story - I digress =)

Reading the posts above on Falling Damage, it reminded me of a time that myself and two of my very good friends (both RL friends, we all got EQ and changed servers together, we play together usually, anyway ...) were in Mistmoore around 30th level - it was one of the WORST days we'd ever had in EQ where we still made progress. We'd spent all day fighting there, and while the exp was good, we'd died a total of around 12 times (and we weren't always getting res'd). The real capstone was that (as I was dragging the last of the corpses up onto the roof of the Crypt for a screenshot (ha!)) I somehow fell behind the rear righthand fence post and the zonewall there, which slopes - there's NOT a lot of room to fall back there, so apparently if you get trapped between two curved surfaces (or one and a verticle surface) you can "slide" down to where EQ can't place your character legally anymore - SPLAT. I died (AGAIN), then came back and finished dragging the first corpse up onto the roof. I left the new corpse back there as proof of the incident, and got a GM res - ALL un-looted corpses are in the pic though =)
.... anyway, back to your normal browsing =)

# Oct 02 2001 at 10:22 PM Rating: Default
first of all this thing looks pimpin, kinda looks like a BFG from the game Doom, and its like a cannon on one arms with like 4 velium looking things on the end, i would where it just cause the way it looks, would feel liekt the terminator, the click sends stuff flying really far back and if you are high enough to get this you have probly been hit with knockback before by some mob so you know what i mean same effect, only problem is, it causes agro if not used right cause you can send things flying into other thigs, would be real fun to use in a dual against a melee class though,

This thing does exist though, Ive seen it first hand. Identifies as the BFG... =)

Used on big stuff?
# Jul 30 2001 at 8:57 AM Rating: Default
I'm assuming this won't werk on things that can't be stunned (giants, dragons...) but was curious if anyone has tried using the effect on giants to keep them from casting Complete Heal. Just seems like that would be extremely useful (which is why I think you can't do it)
RE: Used on big stuff?
# Apr 29 2003 at 12:19 PM Rating: Default
The effect is "knockback" not stun..and it does in fact work on pretty much everything, my guild used to use this in ToV to push dragons into corners.
RE: Used on big stuff?
# Sep 05 2001 at 2:32 PM Rating: Default
Many giants and huge creatures cannot be mezzed. If this is the case you will get a message telling you as much. With huge creatures, there is a large range around them at which you can attack. Unfortuneately, you have to be very close to the center of the creature to activate certain abilities (AoE Stuns, disarm, instill doubt, pickpocketing, beg) or it won't affect the creature as you will be "too far away from them". So if you don't get a message that the creature cannot be stunned or that the creature resists, you may be too far away from the core of that creature.
RE: Used on big stuff?
# Aug 30 2001 at 9:57 AM Rating: Default
Anything can be stunned. My monks t-staff will stun giants, dragons, gods np =P
RE: Used on big stuff?
# Oct 01 2001 at 2:45 AM Rating: Default
Ummm, no it won't. No giant in the game, be it old world or Kunark or Velious can ever be stunned. I think the same applies to pretty much all dragons too. Stunning in these cases CAN still hit the mob (obviously there's some mobs that will resist it no matter what), but in this case stunning is only used for interrupting casting and/or hitting the mob for the DD that may be tied onto the stun. If anyone says anything else, they're lying.

Even if the mob cannot be 'stunned', stun can still land and inturrupt casting even if it does not stop running or meleeing. We chain stun caster giants in Kael all the time. Dosn't stop them from meleeing for even a fraction of a second but it sure does stop those nasty gates and Cheals
RE: Used on big stuff?
# Oct 10 2001 at 1:38 PM Rating: Default
I cast stun on Hill Giants all the time with my 35 pally. I get the message" a hill giant is stunned". But they do not stay stunned very long is what you mean? It is a good way to get the aggro back on you rather than your pure casting party members.

Guild farming
# Jul 13 2001 at 4:52 AM Rating: Decent
hmm, i have seen 2 of these on the nameless server (both from people that are in the same guild). It wouldn't be very hard for a guild to farm these things if it is an uber guild. Take down the drake, move to Cobalt Scar, take down the chest, move to Ice Clad, take it all back to west wastes, and boom you're done, the only problem with this would be if the items were not dropped on every kill, or they have a very long resppawn time. Just think about a guild war between a guild that has most of its melees sporting one of these, that would be the coolest thing to see on EQ in my opinion. my 2cp
RE: Guild farming
# Aug 10 2001 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
To my knowledge it is a long respawn on the drake. Also, the rope in CS isn't a guild type of difficulty. Maybe the drop rate has changed, but they seem to drop almost every time now. (and soloable by a caster class 50+).
RE: Guild farming
# Oct 12 2001 at 4:42 PM Rating: Default
When i made that first post, i didn't know anything about the spawn times or anything, now i do.

So, this will be a flame on my own post lol

1) The Drake has a loong spawn time

2) The Seaworthy planking in IC is an even longer drop and harder to find

3) On the other hand, the 100' Watertight rope is easy to get.

But my friend picked up some planking near the gnomes in IC a few days ago, so it is not broken.

Giving to pets?
# Jun 21 2001 at 11:31 PM Rating: Good
I was told that you can't give a no drop item to a pet because he will "eat" it. You used to be able to but enchanters would duel a player and charm them, making them thier pet, and hand them no drop items. Then they zone boooyah you just traded a no drop item. So they nerfed it so that no drop items are destroyed by pets. Sorry guys, dont think it would work anymore.

I have never tried handing someone an item while charmed. What I do know follows.
NPCs always destroy a no drop item when you give it to them. They only check if it is for a quest they run, and then destroy it period. The reason for this is no drop transfers, but much simpler. Long back, you could hand any mob any item, kill it, then anyone could loot the item.
I believe a charmed player counts as an NPC and would similarly destroy a no drop item. Anyways, you can't cast a charm on another player anymore so that would be hard to test.
