Drops off a Siren Coercer in the revamped SG now.
Got one

I have this and Draconic Fellowship Lute. Same modifiers, different stats. I'd put the price for this at around 10k. Compare to the price of Selo's Drum, but a whole lot more rare. This instrument will jack up your healing and runes primarily. Great for groups with no healer. Its a good upgrade to the Combine Lute.

I bought mine for 100, which must be because of the complete idiot posting below. I've never read so much innaccurate babblings as I see posted for this lute. Particularly the one about comparing this to a Shiny Brass Shield. Morons.

This lute has the highest modifier (2.4) of any droppable stringed instrument.

Does anyone know how much this might go for? I don't have Velious, and wouldn't mind buying one.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 28 2003 at 8:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Luckily i stumbled upon this item and found your question. On Morell Thule Server, its like 100pp (tops). If you have a little more money to spend i would recommend a flute of the sacred glade for a bard. That goes for about 1k-2k. Torin's Horn is also better than this. If you have luclin expansion, go the echo caverns and kill Torin. I believe that horn is like +4str and 25hp with 1.0 mod.

You realize this is a STRING instrument and you're comparing it to WIND instruments, right? If you need a lute, buying a flute won't do you much good, "Maestro".

This lute dropped off Mistress Latazura twice for us last night on Tunare server. We killed her once and she almost immediately repopped.

-you give up two weapons to equip an instrument, those two weapons may have + stats like AC or dex or agi or something.
-store bought lute weighs either 1.0 or 0.1, store bought mandolin weighs 0.0, THIS weighs 5.0 making it one of the heaviest string instruments in the game.
-most string based songs worth memorizing have a high taunt value, niv's and hymm alone do over 60hp/tick of regen, that nets a combined taunt of 360hp every 6 seconds if you are in a full group not to mention the nuke absorption or str buff of niv's adds more taunt.
-one of the coolest bard songs I've used is string based and has an INSANE taunt factor (I'm not telling, find a 50+ bard worth their salt and ask them; besides wo be me for inciting a nerf) and if you find a reason to use it you need ALL the AC you can get considering I was out taunting a wizard chain casting AEs with C2 up, an enchanter chain casting grav flux and the cleric keeping me alive through the ordeal.

So I'd gladly take the AC and the HP and although I may complain about lugging a 5.0 stone instrument around I could definitly live with it.

A bard would want to taunt why? LOL, ask a level 50+ bard why they would want to take the punches instead of a warrior. We may be melee, but we aren't tanks.

Actually, he did not say anywhere that bards *want* to outtaunt a warrior. He merely states that the string based songs worth playing (Nivs, SoS, Cantata ..) have huge taunt potential, especially with a good instrument.
You may not want to get agro off a tank (if you have any), but how about taking mobs off your chanter/cleric/wizard?

Please don't assume what a 50+ bard might want and cease LOLing at people giving good input.

He's talking about shield of songs. Its a group rune spell. If you chain cast it as fast as possible, its high aggro and while it won't turn you into a true tank, will make you much better at taking damage.

I guess if your tank went down and you were the only melee type left, this strategy could work, though normally I would just mezz and heal.
AC for Lute is important for SoS
# May 05 2001 at 3:28 AM Rating: Default
I have found that when chain playing sheild of song for whatever reason.. this is a huge taunt.. and since SoS is based of the lute this helps alot if ur trying to protect your group this way

I tried the regen after doting myself for ever doing the comparision... it wasnt as good as the 7 stringed from hate. its about 5-10% less then it, but the stats are nice
good instrument
# Feb 22 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default
aside from the fact that it gives the best stats of any instrument this lute gives the same pluses to songs as the 7 stringed lute from hate which was the best lute in the game.
Lvl 50?!?
# Feb 21 2001 at 11:27 PM Rating: Default
First off, what drops it?
2nd, the WT is huge!! Is the animation of a cast iron lute?
3rd, why can bards not get moderately powerful instruments. Something with AC4 and +2 str or +5 MR. We get gypped out of two weapon slots, which means no shields, no procs, etc. And the only (decent) magic instruments need either a full 35+ party to recover or a 45+ solo character. I'm not even sure this is a very powerful item for a lvl 50 drop. Contrast this with the Shiny Brass Shield. Takes up 2ndary weapon slot only, light source, +MR, +AC.

Well, you know...if it were up to me, I'd have DMG on these instruments that we can wield. Why? Have you ever been hit with a guitar? I have....and it freakin' hurts, man!

I know it's been 8 years, but still, I gotta say it.

There IS such a whacking guitar! It's called "Melodious Truncheon"

Decent twinker, confuses anybody looking at u, and the possible memblur at high levels has saved me plenty of times! Look it up. Bought mine in the baz, I'm a cheater I know >.<

Shiney Brass Shield doesn't enhance your songs at all, while this lute does (by a % that is unknown to me).

Wow, whoever did the first post is messed up... What the hell would you do with 2 STR?! Have you found that AC is the best for a melee yet? When you get a higher level, its all about AC. 5 weight? Thats not heavy at all! Bards getting the good end her, really good % too
RE: Lvl 50?!?
# Feb 25 2001 at 10:54 PM Rating: Default
The only thing you can do with the extra ac, is stand there and play songs since you're not putting out the damage you can with your weapons.

Ac really only helps out when your combating creatures, so when your playing with your instrument, you're doing nothing else... Unless your punching.. Oh boy!

If at first you don't succeed, then failure could be more your style.

Many bard songs seem to have a high taunt, especially ones related to crowd control.
You'd better be able to take a beating until things can be taunted off you, even if you don't have to absorb hits continuously like a tank would...

or being able to take a beating while the next pulse kicks in if your playing crowd contrl im only 23 so the only real crowd control i got is lullably which is string

It has AC..I imagina sheilding yourself with a lute can't be good for keeping it in Tune...
