Nice robe, but seems like a crappy effect compared to what other classes get (considering you have to use a peridot still). I mean warriors get a heal, druids get manaless group regen. Still Id like to have it for my enchanter for the stats.
# Feb 02 2003 at 1:33 PM Rating: Excellent
Alright...I'm just a bit confused by one thing. Why in the world are you guys sitting here complaining and posting about how much you guys dislike the effect on this robe? If you don't like it don't get the robe! It's as simple as that! I for one really like the stats on this robe. So yeah the effect is only Rune IV and you have to use the peridot still but it's manaless! Not only that but it has 14 INT, all those saves, the mana and HPs (and I definitely know chanters can use all the HPs they can get! hehe) Bottom line...First: Don't always look at the bad side of everything! This robe is a very good Enchanter robe! Second: If you don't have anything nice to say anything at all! =) Just my 2cp...=)

OK so the stats are great, too bad I see 0, zero, zip, chance of me ever needing or wanting to use the effect. I have rune V, I can cast clarity on myself exactly 12 seconds after rez and rune in 36 so wtf is up with this. If it were 15 or 30 seconds componentless I could use, maybe I would. What do the programmers think? What ever happened to class balancing. I guess gear doesn't count. Enchanters get crap gear and people wonder why there is only 1 level 60 enchanter for like every 100 of anything else, cept maybe necros and rogues.

I've been researching gear quite a bit as I approach 50 with my new enchanter toon. I have noticed the trend of inconsistancy as well in regards to the usefullness of our Velious quest stuff. One reason keeps screaming in my mind over and over like some crazed mantra and now I'm begining to believe it. I think the folks who design this gear for specific classes have never actually played them, if they have ever played EQ at all. They are either spinning a roulette wheel or throwing a dart at a dart board. No other explanation other than they are doing it as some prank or they are dumber than a rock.

I know we can rationalize the usefullness of every single item in the game till we are blue in the face, but I feel kinda robbed. Rune 4? come on please. Cannot recall ever being in a spot where I wished I had a clickable componant costing manaless rune with an ungodly recast time. How about a stun or a mezz?

Oh well. Not as if any of this is going to change but the flavor of the thread was a "whine" so there is my whine.

<insert self agrandizments here to assuage my over inflated ego and vainly try and lend validity to my opinion>

well the reason why the effect on this robe isnt all that great has been pretty well beaten. as far as chanters gear goes, well we really dont have many items that are specifically designed for us that is great. if you look at the BP's of the other classes, the effect really is pretty good. invigor for the melees wont save the day for tanks, but if they are soloing then it helps big time. i think the ranger gets cotp which from what i hear isnt that great either but im not a ranger. if a silk robe drops in a raid, and if it doesnt go to a necro then its going to waste. the SC effect on the necros robe is like uhm godly. uses small coffins, and it helps big time during CR's. hell the mages has a 25 point DS,and the wizzie has a mana free nuke on theirs. we get a rune 4 spell that uses components. if we have run 5 then we will drop a spell to fill the slot in order to cast it rather than stick with a mana free longer casting rune 4 that stills uses the reagents. plus i believe the casting time on this robe is pretty long so might not be worthwhile if your chain runeing in a raid. the only way i can see the effect on this thing worthwhile at all is if several chanters a chain casting runes on a MT in a long battle. if a battle is gonna take longer than 15 min, and its a tough mob where casting rune 5 isnt a good option from going oom by the chanters, you prolly wont use this much. i would defineatly want more hp to the rune for the same regent regardless if its mana free or not. anyhow, this my 2 cp addition to this flame robe fest. all in all, chanters life isnt easy at all. people think we can get into groups like as soon as we ooc for groups, unfortunaly its the not case. there are a lot of chanters in my server (saryrn) and most zones nowadays really dont need a chanter. plus, they nerfed a lot of our spells where it doesnt work on a lot of the mobs. any chanters ever trying mezzing a simple wolf in ME = (. or a DA in UP = ( = (. another, in many zones we are not really needed too. plus we have one of the most annoying epics in the game. who da hell wants to camp all three of those mobs, all the while competeting against every other insane chanter that wants those spawns = (. i think VI really need to do something about our class, the classes right now are not really balanced at all. anyhow, im done = )

ok, I'm not going to be presumptuous here, but if the robe effect doesn't use reagents, wouldn't that make it a little more viable than eating through peridots all day? Also, the rune on the robe is mana free, and doesn't eat a spell slot to have it memmed. Trust me, when you guys get past level 40, you will actually start to see what the end game is all about. Anything you can find that twists the standard rules of the game a bit is exactly what you need. Things like mana/reagent-free spells, extra "memmed" spells, instant casting spels, etc. are incredibly powerful tools, especially on raid situations when med breaks can't really be afforded often.
RE: whine
# Feb 07 2003 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
the spell DOES use regeants, in this case a peridot. if it didnt use the dot, it might, i stress might, be a decent effect.

This bites. We always get the poopy stuff. We get a stinky rod that cast's a lvl 8 spell you need at lvl 30 to cast, Phingy drops a rod with mana sieve, only it has 7 charges. We never get anything that benefits ourselves exept Clarity. And now they give us a robe. But not any ordinary robe, no. It's a robe with OK int (Only -10 than the uberific robe of Secrets) and nice overall stats, but this effect of Rune IV? Give me an effect that rox, not this! By the time we get this robe, we'll have Rune V. I only want it for the extra 5 INT that my Tola Robe doesnt give. Not exactly flaming, I'm just saying VI could have done better.

Gimme a Dagger of Thought or give me.... uhhh..... Back Acne! OW!

The robe looks like a Siren Scale Robe, only somewhat darker. The Rune IV does require a component, although when I first got the robe I thought it didn't, wasted a few peridots that way. ;) The recast time is 30 seconds, a long time to sit there casting a spell; It is handy for buffing up people under 41 or whatever level they need for Rune V, because then I don't have to mem the spell, and also, I can forsee it being useful in a long fight where chain runing is done, after I go OOM, although most fights don't last that long.

Collaboration works to help get the faction needed; When I got my first pieces of this armor, I needed it to get the faction needed (Either Kindly or the one above it, I can't remember. ;).
The Dwarves do NOT require Ally faction (Dragons and Giants do).

The robe is the same one used for all the other caster Thurgadin quests; If there is some inconsistency in the robe the quest giver says it is just an error on the part of someone at Verant, and it works just fine.

Curious about faction...
# Dec 27 2001 at 1:49 PM Rating: Decent
Was curious if the benevolence line of spells helps with the faction needed in thurg for the quest... or has Verant made it so that Enchanters can't use them?? Hope it can be used, would save me alot of time killing wolves and giants in GD. Thanks ahead of time =)

I was Amiable to Brita then cast my dorf illusion. I was surprised to find myself Kindly so I could do the quest (was the slippers quest). I had Benev ready but didn't need it. I was probably very close to kindly before casting the illusion, but since it did get me up to kindly it can't hurt to look like a dorf if you are still amiable. Now if I could just get this robe...

OK got Torn enchanted Silk Robe last night in areana at Kael, we've been raiding there and mass killin the giant's for Faction, Question is Im a Enchanter and for the enchater quest calls for a torn enchanted robe, no word(silk ) in it but robe I got last night shows for Mag, Wiz, Nec, Enc, the Quest for the other three classes call for the torn enchanted silk robe to be used with the p[ritine emeralds, but the enc quest calls for thwe one W/O the word Silk in it , has this been updated ?/? so the Enchanter quest is the same as the other classes, cuz I would hate to grind in Velk for emeralds only to find out get a no drop robe for other class and not M/Q it, Info on this would be appreciated

Curious if this robe has been changed graphically since the Velious armor patch. I know a significant amount of the Velious quest armors now have their own unique graphics, if not all. If you have this, and it is a unique graphic, please post a link to a screenshot.

(Inicidentally, if you don't have your Velious armors enabled, don't respond saying "It looks the same" please. If you know you have your Velious armors enabled, pipe up =))
Triggered effect

Ok, please dont make fun of me, but I have a simple question. The effect on this is 'triggered'. Now does that mean, other than casting time, you can use as often and as much as you want? Thanks

30 second casting time
a peridot as the spell component
arguably useless once you get RuneV which gives a better shield and uses also only a peridot with a much shorter casting time.. but i dont know for sure seeing as im stuck with my Tolapumj robes at the moment hehe

You shouldn't pay more then 10.5 plat per peridot. If you do you dont have enough charisma or dont have enough faction.

# May 11 2001 at 11:00 PM Rating: Decent
okay, i got this robe last night, so i was really lucky. First of all, the rune IV does NOT require a reagant. That was a bug. Second, the robe dropped from mobs in the arena in kael drakkel. Next, this mob was extremely tough. We've raided this area 4 times, and it dropped once. Total time around 16-20hours, killing mobs that would drop this, with constant pulls. The gems are actually fairly easy. Any dungeon mob in velious has a chance of dropping these, although the chances are slim. Make sure you have a high faction though, i would suggest amiable or above, just for the fact that these are difficult to get.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 30 2001 at 1:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I suggest you don't waste your time with this robe like I made the mistake of doing. It's an exact copy of the Sirenscale robe and for the trouble it takes to get it, it's not worth it. Go to PoG and get a resplendent robe or do the Kael Drakkel quest, those robes are unique looking and much more worth the trouble to get.
RE: Ugly horribly robe
# Aug 03 2002 at 10:12 AM Rating: Default
I am ashamed to share the same server with you.

Looks arent everything to a robe, and you bite, hard. A Replendescent robe may be easy to get for some1 that can actually GET INTO the planes, and can be, like, lvl 53 or something with a raid force, kill the Sylvan that has the robe, may drop the robe but you may not win it, ruin your Keletin and Felwithe faction, constantly kill it till you get the robe, not be able to ever go to Gfay or Felwithe, and be an outcast when you can simply do this quest, get the robe, and get good Thurg faction. If you wanna ruin your Elven faction, go right ahead. I'll stick to the easy way; get the MQ, get the faction, get the robe.

: shuns Kaekyn, and wishes she'd think simpler.
RE: Ugly horribly robe
# May 03 2001 at 1:05 AM Rating: Default
that would be a copy of a kedge robe, but kunark newbies wouldnt know this.

anyway, this quest isnt worth doing, but kael isnt a bad place to xp and if a vindicator drops a robe I'm not gona let it rot. this is better than my current robe anwyay (CRA) and my guild cant do HoT yet.

also you might notice Kael armor has considerably less HP than SS armor (as a set -- if for some redicious reason someone actually wore a complete set of any of the velius armors), once your 60 AC dosent matter near as much as it did when you were xp'ing (keeping 700 ac is about as high as its worthwile to do). since most 52+ mobs will max hit all the time anyway.

Ahh, but the item drops DO exist. =)

I got the robe drop 3 nights ago in Kael (in the Arena area). It weighs 5 stone, and has no stats, but is wearable, and looks like the FBR when worn. All the torn silk items all drop in Kael (randomly off the various giants), but are rare, and the robe is EXTREMELY rare item that drops.

The pristine emeralds drop in dragon necropolis and skyshrine (I think skyshrine it was).

The robe effect uses a reagent (a peridot is consumed), but is manaless, and anyone who casts rune on their group members knows that it can drain your mana FAST, for example, if I put Rune V on a party of six (including myself), at Level 55, I will have 10% mana left. I just hope that Absor can get the effect changed to Rune V, instead of Rune IV. Both runes take a peridot, but Rune V is almost twice the dmg absorption as Rune IV.

There you have it, where the items you seek drop. I thought I would be the first to leave some USEFUL information on obtaining this item. If you have any questions, drop me an email. =)

Happy hunting, and good luck acquiring the items...

Casting time on effect is at least 15 secs, and yes, it does use a peridot.

Rune 4 sucks imho...not only does it take forever to cast this effect, but 400-something points of damage is about 2 hits on a regular, run of the mill, lvl 55 MOB....and just to give all you noobs out there some perspective....uber MOBS hit for ALOT more.

For example, Velketor hits in the 800's...acually he has been know to triple and quad for 7-800ish...and i dont think he can be do the math ;) (and trust me when i say, velketor isnt even one of the really hard ones)

Otherwise, its still a nice upgrade from the insidious robe...***** the quest tho, go to PoG and get one, its a heluva lot easier

Wow a right clickable Rune IV, that would be invaluable (if not overpowered) in raids when its necessary to keep the damage off the main tanks and conserve on the clerics mana. I wonder what the recast time would be on this bad boy... it could potentially grant anyone infinite hps persay by allowing them to have a constant rune !V anti damage shield on. They never get hit while they dish out all the damage. A cool godly thought, but I assume they didnt design it that way and added some sort of delay on it to balance it... (combine this with the slow debuff, and WOW)

Pegasus Feather Cloak is somewhat of an oddity, but it makes sense, Magicians don't need a reagent to levitate.

Magicians don't need a reagent to levitate

I am confused. Where did you get your information about mages not using a bat wing reagent to cast levitate. You must not have talked with any Mages lately, If you had, They would have straightened you out. Magicians, Although we appear GODLIKE, We do have to sometimes use reagents. Levitate is one of those times.

'nuff said.
