After years of occasional visits to Xalgoz, he finally dropped the staff tonight! It's still there!!!!

Tha stats include Int +6 and Mana +40 so really its more the equivalent of Int +10. I still carry it all the time at level 56. You get used to the casting time real quick and never even think about it. Don't let the casting time deter you.

This staff is worth every pp someone wants for it. Can you say constant exp in The Grey with little mana and a nice chance of sellable drops.

Also bonus, it looks very cool.

Cause I just got one on Bristlebane. Gonna come in handy while fear kiting in PoD. It'll let me mem another DoT.

dropped on TM tonight

This dropped for me on Tholuxe Paells last nite (7/01/02). Just some clarification. I am 53 Necro and could single pull anything down there with no trouble. Xalgoz is undead. Shackle of SPirit and your pet with Aug on him rock the house. I would pull with Shackle and sick pet and med. Pet tore everything up easily (49th tanker version pet..not the Rogue pet). I also loaded up engulfing for the spectral stuff because it ran on low health, all the skellies mobs did not run. Exp was decent even though most stuff was green. Even with two mobs on the pet, if they are slowed he wins everytime.

Best way I found to fight him with pet is to park just off to the right of the front of the Church against the wall. Clear the spawns in front and pull him with Annul to get rid of his buffs (he always has up Banshee Aura). Spam /pet back off until Xalgoz gets to you. He will cast on you but almost nothing sticks and its all low level stuff anyway. Then EB him, BoD, engulf and let pet kill him. Don't fight inside church unless you do not care about adds from the basement.

As for his casting: he starts by casting chilling embrace on you a couple times. If you have up DMF it never sticks. He also casts Boil Blood, Dooming, Scourge and Invoke Fear. I usually buffed pet with Resist Disease and DMF because of these spells.

The only spell that ever stuck to me was Boil Blood and that was irrelevant because BOD is more than sufficient to counteract that affect. I have lousy gear, crappy resists and not good intel and this camp was a breeze.

About faction. I started off with Outpost at Kindly. I was down there about 3 days killing stuff. I ended up with Kindly. The hits are miniscule.


One last note. There is a post on this board about how to get to the Church. I think in the Xalgoz section. Its an excellent road map. I followed it to the "T" and walked down to the church myself using Invis and Invis undead and FD. It was very easy and involved no dangerous trains.

Can anyone confirm this is still a drop off Xalgoz as of May, 2002? I have been camping this with a Necromancer since she dinged 53. I only kill Xalgoz, or the PH and only Xalgoz is blue at 53. I am now less than 4 blues from 54 so it gives you some idea how many times I have killed Xalgoz over the past month. I understand the staff is rare but I'm starting to wonder if possibly the drop has been removed or if possbly the addition of the necklace for the shaman quest has goofed up the staff drop

While I have yet to get the staff (after 14 hours so far) I have, as a necro, come up with the best way to camp Xalgoz. First get a timer. Xalgoz or his placeholder is on a 1/2 hour spawn timer and he spawns in the church directly behind the altar. What you do is cast invis to undead (improved if you have it) and walk inside the church to target him or just use /target Xalgoz. Then go behind the church to just below the steps and directly in front of the window. Pull with Bond of Death or other lengthy cast time, fast acting DoT if you don't have BoD. He will cast on you which will give you time to cast Insidious Retrogression (great spell), not only doing some nice DD damage but snaring him too. Next cast Hungry Earth... yeah the first root spell you got. Why? because it does nice damage too at higher levels. Banish Undead or whatever the highest level undead DD spell you have is and he should be almost cooked. Repeat Banish and he's done.

I have single pulled Xalgoz from an entire room of undead every time using this method at 54, but it should work at much lower levels. Hope this helps. Wish me luck!

Okay, well it isn't a pile of crap to say the least... just pissed about the long camp. I have wanted this thing since very early lvl when i saw someone walking around with it, i didn't even know what it did, just thought it looked cool lol.
Anyways, made it to 50 and i set out to make it mine. What a god forsaken camp this is!!! I kept track of spawn info and before he dropped the staff i killed him 52 times and a near equal number of PH. So it took me a little over 50 hours to camp this thing. I did most of the camping non stop, and durring the whole thing i slept about 10 hours total hehe. Had a lot of friendly guilds come in and watch me camp so they could get their keys, and even a few un-friendly guilds who just ran in and ks'ed. Most of time i was all by myself. Near the end of camp i started to go insane from lack of sleep and i decided to try out my splurt spell on my self... needless to say i died. :(
This staff is really great and i'm so glad i have it, but you really have to want one to get it. A 50 hour camp is no fun and putting up with a 30min spawn just sucks even more. One good thing about this camp is you can solo pull the whole floor and kill everything, or just pull xalgoz or ph and leave everything up and go afk between spawns. I spent a good 14 spawns afk the whole time, just set a timer. Anyways, got staff on 1/15/02 So it does still drop despite what so many people say. Goodluck, you'll need it :)
