Throwing Better Things -
Part 1
by Jorlan Hegeway

My work on throwing
unpleasant objects at my
enemies has come along
nicely. Hiloan has
developed new containers
for my concoctions. These
new bottles are easy to
throw and break more often
when they strike. You might
want to talk to him or
someone that can learn from
him and stock up on those
round ones with the finger
grips on them.

These new bottles are just
too brittle to use to mix
the brew up, so you'll need
to make the stuff in a
standard vial and transfer

it to a bottle. If you know
how to pour a jug of wine
you should be able to pour
the concoctions into the
new bottles without any
trouble.

I told you before about how
to use Flamewort, Acaana
and Yellow Rheum as a base
for a nasty mixture that
burns pretty fiercely. I
figured you'd find the
other bases yerselves. I
hope you've done the
research to discover that
Cicino, Belan, Berterine
and Dinfuin will cause the
mixture to work with
different degrees of
effectiveness. I'm going
to refer to these sorts of
items as activators because
they are the active

ingredient in the mixture.

Let's call the Flamewort,
Acaana and Yellow Rheum
base Flamebase for the sake
of my poor writing hand.
I'm going to call that set
of activators Thermal
Activators. Those
activators will also work
with a Suranie, Seathorn
and Yellow Rheum base
(Coldbase). This base
causes heat to be pulled
from the area, making your
target very cold.

A lot of people have been
bringing me stuff to try to
mix with those bases. Most
of them are crazy (old
Dwarven socks will NOT make
a good additive for a stink
bomb - just throw the socks

themselves!), but some have
worked. They are finding
things near my beloved
Halas that I'd love to see
myself, but I'm just too
busy.

I guess it's obvious once
you hear it, but adding the
saliva from a drake will
boost the Flamebase and
Thermal Activators to give
it an extra kick. Try the
weaker saliva with Cicino
and the more powerful stuff
with Belan.

You can do the same thing
with the Coldbase. Get some
saliva from a basilisk and
mix the base and Cicino and
you'll find it gets a lot
colder. And if you can find
some saliva from a mature

basilisk, mix it with the
Belan and Coldbase and
you'll like the results.

You might already know
about the Angurth,
Bitterwood, Yellow Rheum
base (Slowbase, I suppose).
It can be activated with
Kaktu, Vinuth or Fangorth.
Well, a Halfling brought me
some of these silk worms
thinking that I'd be
interested in trying to
make some sort of new silk.
I wasn't. It turns out that
if you mix them with the
Slowbase and their
activators it makes them
more potent. I've found
that you have to match the
worm to the activator. The
younger worms can't handle
the stronger activators.

The Stunning Concoction,
with the Arroweed, Angurth
and Yellow Rheum base,
needs the same activators
as the Slowbase. I've also
discovered that you can add
poison from some weird
looking drakes to the
weakest of these to get a
better reaction. For the
Vinuth mixture, try adding
some wood ash. For the
Fangorth activated mixture,
use some quicklime.
